Hello everyone, I'd like to apologize for the massive delay. Hunting for a new job has been a pain. But despite that and life overall, I have this finally completed and ready to present. Let me know what you think in the review.
Still own nothing except my OC. Logan belongs to my beta Spartan-626
The high orbit of the Shield World Disney remained largely undisturbed, save for the numerous UNSC vessels, from Marathon-class Cruisers to Paris-class Heavy Frigates that that were leaving the orbital stations and continuing final preparations, along with the thousands of Pelican's that flew from and towards the numerous vessels. Within a ship bound Pelican, resided the now 'Commander' Logan Fenris, who was currently studying the contents of a data-pad with intense scrutiny, which contained files on the various units and vessels assigned to the expedition along with files on his contemporaries within the other branches of the expedition. While he was doing so, Samantha, clad in her Mjolnir armor much like he was, commented on his situation. "Looks like you've got a lot of homework huh?
Groaning at the reminder of his new position and the sheer amount of data he still had to review, Logan gave a response. "I am aware, and frankly surprised with the amount of assets allocated for this. This isn't an expedition force, it's an entire goddamn army!"
"Personally, I don't mind the extra firepower. By the way, how much are we talking about?"
Putting the data-pad down, Logan turned his head towards her and spoke. "I've already reviewed our fleet assets which consist of one Marathon Cruiser and four Paris Heavy Frigate's. And Ground assets, so far, include those evacuated from the Lancaster including the 2nd Marine Battalion "Catachan Jungle Devils" and the 320th ODST Battalion, and additional assets include three army corps, a marine battalion and and ODST battalion."
Najenda, sitting across from them, took a puff from her cigar before speaking. "Sounds like we're being prepped for the long haul. Which honestly makes sense."
Realizing she had a point, Logan released a dry chuckle before responding. "Yeah, I shouldn't be surprised. We had to rely on sheer numbers and firepower throughout the Human-Covenant war, and This Organization XIII is supposed to make those fanatics look like pushovers."
Before another word could be spoken, the pilot called out to them over the intercom. "We'll be arriving at our destination soon. If you want to take a look, feel free to head to the cockpit."
At that offer, Logan stood up from his seat, followed closely by Samantha and Najenda while the rest of Night Raid chatted away. A couple of moments later, as the trio arrived at the cockpit of the Pelican, the pilot, a young woman with blonde hair hanging just above her shoulders wearing the standard UNSC Naval Pilot uniform gestured towards the viewport. "There she is, the Nirvana."
Their gaze was directed towards the handful of UNSC vessels assigned to the expedition, in particular, towards the lone Marathon Cruiser. The flagship of the expeditionary fleet had the gunmetal-grey coloring of every UNSC ship, and was decked with multiple archer missile pods, railguns, and Nuclear fusion rockets and two MAC cannons that lined the ships spine. The ship also had a hanger bay located on its portside. As their Pelican flew closer towards the Cruiser, the pilot radioed in their status. "UNSC Nirvana, this is Vandread-03 requesting permission to dock, over."
Soon after, the radio crackled to life once more with a response. "Copy that Vandread-03, you are cleared for dock, proceed to hanger-1 over."
"Copy that Nirvana, over an out." With the connection then cut, the pilot turned towards Logan and Samantha, Najenda having already went back. "You might want to buckle up, it's gonna get bumpy."
...
Commander Buzam A. Calessa stood straight in her Naval officer's uniform, shoulder-length silver hair framed her chocolate-skinned face which was set into an impassive stare. Beside her stood the ships Captain Magno Vivan, an old and stubborn woman dressed in a similar uniform and holding a walking stick in her right hand. She had long since reached the Age of retirement, but had refused to do so, continuing to lead the Nirvana and her crew. The captain looked towards her trusted XO with a smile and spoke. "Will you relax B.C.? We're just meeting up with the new Spartan Commander."
"I will relax once this man has earned his position. I don't need to remind you that we know next to nothing about him, much less what he's capable of. Not to mention what is the point of having a Spartan commander when there isn't a single fireteam assigned to the fleet?"
Nodding her head in understanding, Magno gave her reply. "The lack of Spartan fireteams is merely a temporary setback, they'll be ready to join us in a couple of weeks. But otherwise, you do have a point. But the Admiral does have a good feeling about this kid. And you and I both know he's never wrong."
"That is true Captain, but my point still stands."
At that moment, as maintenance crews, Marine squads, and Naval personnel scurried around them, a lone Pelican flew into the hanger, coming to a stop a few dozen feet away from the duo and opening up the exit ramp as it landed. As the transport gave one last hiss, the passengers that descended down the ramp drew the attention of most of the crew present within the hanger, in particular towards the Spartans clad in the Mjolnir suits that added to their large stature. Both of the Spartans carried their helmets in their right hand, revealing youthful yet battle scarred faces. The Spartan within the black suit of Mjolnir suit, covered in what appeared to be Nordic runes, bore a light-skinned face adorned with multiple scars, a mop of short black hair and a neatly trimmed beard of the same color. His companion bore a feminine face with short red hair and a single scar across her left cheek. After bidding the others to disperse and link back with their units, Spartan Logan-326 turned towards the two officers. "Are we the last to arrive?"
Magno nodded her head before responding. "Indeed you are commander. I'm Captain Magno Vivan of the Nirvana and the commanding officer of the fleet and this is my XO, Commander Buzam. If the tow of you will follow us, we'll take you to the command room where the other officers are waiting."
...
The journey through the ship remained largely uneventful aside from the occasional personnel crossing their path. After entering one of the lifts which took them up for a few minutes before stopping and opening up to reveal another hallway which the Spartans assumed led to their destination given how the Captain was ushering them forward. "The command room is down the hall, fifth door on the right. Now if you two will excuse us, we've got to head to the bridge to oversee our departure."
Nodding in understanding, the two Spartans bid them farewell as they exited the lift, its doors closing behind them as they continued walking. Upon arrival, the door slid open to reveal a medium-sized room with walls lined with various screens and monitors, but the room was only occupied by three high-ranking individuals surrounding a lone holo-table in the center. As the two Spartans made their way into the room, the three personages turned their attention towards them, allowing them to see their faces in detail. The first one on the left, clad in the uniform of an Army officer, was a clean-shaven, middle-aged man of African descent. Next to him stood a light-skinned female Air force officer with short, light blue hair. the man on the right the two Spartans easily recognized as Colonel Jack 'Iron Hand' Stracken. His dark-green bandanna and the cybernetics of his right eye and arm made him stand out as he called them over. "Good to see yow two made it in one piece."
Samantha acknowledged with a nod as the two Spartans arrived at the table. "The feeling's mutual sir."
With that, Colonel Straken gestured to the others in the room. "These two are Colonel Jalev Kohan and Commander Meia Gisborn. They command the Army and Air force assets respectively."
With the introductions out of the way, the surface of the table lit up, displaying a hologram of a single planet with three main continents . Once this was completed, Gisborrn turned her attention towards the Spartans once more. "I assume you've been briefed on our destination?"
The Spartans nodded before Logan replied. "From what the Admiral briefed me on, the planet is located on a strategic crossroads that, once secured, we can use as a staging point to launch rapid strikes against organization forces."
Colonel Kohan was next to speak. "The planet also possesses a substantial source of Eco, an attempt by the Forerunners and ancient Humans to develop a mass-produced variant of magical energy. The initial experiment was deemed a failure, but we have found other uses for the resource, primarily as special ammunition, combat stimulants, and as a power source for some of our experimental fighters and vehicles."
"So it's pretty much a jack-of-all-trades. But before we continue, who's in charge of the ODST's?"
As if to answer his question, the door suddenly opened, revealing a slightly out of breath Najenda. "Sorry I'm late, just received the orders to report here."
Colonel Kohan nodded in understanding before he continued speaking. " It is alright, We had barely begun. But I'll be having words with communications after this. You should've received the orders hours ago."
At that moment, the holographic display zoomed in towards the western continent where a single, massive urban structure stood out, situated along the Northeastern coastline. Commander Gisborn took over speaking as she pointed towards various sections of the city surrounding a massive tower complex. "As we were about to discuss, the planet is currently under siege by innsurectionist forces supported by local sympathizers and Heartless reinforcements. Their forces have taken control of multiple sections of the settlement Haven City, including the industrial section, port, and the gardens surrounding the palace."
A single detail caught the two Spartans and Najenda by surprise, something Logan took the opportunity to voice. "Hold on, haven't the innies pretty much gone extinct?"
It was Stracken who answered the question with an annoyed growl. "Apparently multiple innie factions were able to go off the grid during the Human-Covenant war. They've since joined up with the Organization."
Colonel Kohan was quick to bring the discussion back on track. "Regardless, our objective is to secure the city and establish staging areas from which we can clear out the enemy from the planet."
Samantha, having had her attention fixed on the projection, took the opportunity to speak. "Is it possible to establish an LZ near the Palace?"
Slight hesitance met her question before the Colonel responded. "I'm afraid we have insufficient intel to be certain. But theoretically it should be possible."
Logan, seeing what his friend was thinking, interjected. "Then I'd say an orbital drop is in order. We, along with the ODST's can drop in, secure an LZ and hit any potential hostile AA batteries giving the main force a chance to land in force. From there we can strike at all the occupied areas at once."
Colonel Stracken was quick to voice his approval. "Nice and simple. I don't know about you lot, but I think that sounds like a plan."
The others nodded in agreement before commander Gisborn spoke. "Seeing as we are all in agreement, I suggest we make preparations for when we arrive."
With that, every last human in the room departed, the fighting spirit of humanity in their hearts as the men and women of thee UNSC marched to war once again.
I'll confess, I intended to cover the opening stages of the campaign in this chapter, but due to a number of circumstances, this became a filler.
