I DO NOT OWN LOGAN.

Laura's P.O.V.

The next morning, I'm woken up by a loud noise. I jolt up in my "bed" to find that Mariko is gone, and that Dad is racing through the house and out the front door as if his life depends on it. But then my heart drops. If Mariko isn't here, that must mean that something happened to her.

Not bothering to put shoes on, I bolt after him, and see a group of men, dragging a struggling Mariko to a black car. Dad is battling with more men, killing them left and right. I automatically go into fight mode, and leap on the nearest man, burying my claws into his chest.

While I kill the rest of the men, I see Dad trying to catch up to the car that has Mariko inside, all to no avail. I slash the neck of the last man, and run over to my father, breathing heavy.

"What happened!?" I exclaim, pushing loose strands of hair behind my ears. Dad is also breathing heavy, seething with rage.

"They took her!" he growls.

"Who! Were they the same guys from the funeral?"

"I think so. I thought we'd have a bit longer before we'd have to leave." He starts fast walking back to the house. "Dammit!" He punches a nearby tree, knocking a small chunk out of it. I follow him.

"So, are we going to go after her?" I ask, already knowing the answer.

"Yes, we're going after her! Go get dressed, then we have to go."

"You're bleeding!" I exclaim, looking at the bullet wound in his right leg.

"Laura!" he snaps. I narrow my eyes at him. I'm not gonna let any guy, even my father, talk to me that way.

"Don't take your anger out on me because your girlfriend got kidnapped!" I hiss. "I'm just worried about you! Don't you even care that you're not healing as fast as you usually do?" He clenches his teeth.

"Just go get dressed. The last thing I'm worried about right now, is myself." I glare at him as I run back to the house, then I quickly get dressed and meet back up with him. As we start walking, I start to play with the dog tags around my neck and look back up at Dad.

"How are we going to track Mariko down?"

"I don't know yet."

"You're limping," I observe.

"It doesn't matter."

We've reached the shitty part of town now, and as we walk, a new black car screeches to a stop in front of us. In the driver's seat is Yukio. How the hell did she find us? It doesn't matter, though. We have no time to waste. Every second that Mariko is gone is another second she could die.

Dad and I climb into the car, and he looks over at Yukio.

"Take me to Noburo," he seethes. Yukio looks like she's having an anxiety attack, she's holding back tears, but her voice seems calm.

"Logan," she tries.

"Take me to him," Dad orders again.

"I need to tell you something."

"Do it. Now." His voice is a warning that he isn't going to ask again. She sighs and starts the car and speeds off.

As Yukio speeds down the street, I take a minute to gather my thoughts. For the first time since I got here, it's actually hitting me that this will all be over soon. The reality of it hits me in the chest like a ton of bricks, and I find it hard to believe. What will life be like, if none of the things that happened to me, happened to me? Will I be the same person? Will Dad be the same person? It's scary to think that everything will be different. But that's the reason why I came here in the first place, right? To make everything in the present different? So that Dad and hopefully, everyone at the X mansion, will be alive? But I guess it's just hitting me how much different everything will be.

We pull to a stop in front of a tall building, and I pull myself back into reality.

"Wait in the car," Dad orders, and opens his door and starts to get out. Yukio stops him.

"Logan."

"What?"

"I saw you die," she admits. Guess she finally decided to tell him, though I don't know why she's waited until now. Dad frowns, confused.

"What?"

"I saw you die," she says again.

"What? Just now?"

"A while ago. It's not like I get a complete picture. More like looking through a key hole. But I'm always right." Yukio is again trying to hold back tears. "All I can see, is one part of a person's life. Their death. And I saw yours."

"What'd you see?" Dad whispers.

"I see you on your back. There's blood everywhere. You're holding your own heart in your hand; it's not beating. I know that somehow, in the future that Laura's from, you were alive. But I can't help but wonder if, by her changing things, that you'll die like in my vision." Dad doesn't want to hear the rest of what Yukio has to say, though, because he starts to get out of the car again, and I'm too much in shock to do anything. The way she describes it now, I realize just how right Yukio is about how Dad is going to die. But I can't help but wonder if the reason why Dad isn't healing, if because of something that I did, something that I changed about the past. And I'm worried that he'll die, and then I'll have to go back to a future without ever meeting him.

"I don't have time for this shit."

"When I was five, I knew how my own parents would die. And I watched it happen from the back seat." It's quiet for a moment, before Dad figures out what to say.

"Look at me," he requests. Yukio slowly looks over at him. "A lot of people have tried to kill me and I'm still here."

"Yeah, but you're different now. Aren't you? They can hurt you. They can kill you."

"Please don't go, Dad. I'm really worried about you," I plead. He looks back at me, and I find that I'm playing with the dog tags again. He looks down at my hand and seems to struggle with himself. Now that I've spoken, he doesn't know what he should do. But I guess I didn't get through to him, because he says,

"Wait in the car." And he gets out.

Yukio doesn't listen to him, and climbs out of the car after him, but I stay in the car, just trapped in my thoughts. It seems like two seconds have gone by when they come running back and we speed off again.

"What happened?" I ask. They obviously didn't find Mariko.

"Shingen has Mariko," Yukio tells me. "You were right, Laura. Master Yashida was stockpiling adamantium in hopes to prolong his life and become immortal. Shingen helped him in hopes that Yashida would leave him the fortune, but instead Yashida gave it all to Mariko."

"I'm guessing he's planning on killing Mariko so that he can take the money for himself," I say.

"We've guessed that, too. So, we're going to pay a visit to him." This should be fun.
