Annabeth kept having dreams of Percy. In her dreams, he was trying to escape a shadowy figure. Percy kept yelling, "I will see her again! I will see our baby! I won't wait ten years." In every dream, the shadowy figure caught up to him, and Annabeth would wake up in cold sweat.
"What do you think these dreams mean?" She asked Piper one day while they were eating dinner at Camp Jupiter.
"I have no idea," Piper said. "Maybe you should ask Chiron. He knows a lot more than I do."
The next day, after Annabeth got back from Camp Jupiter, she went to the Big House and asked Chiron what her dreams meant. He listened to her dream, then thought for a moment.
"I'm starting to think that Percy might be alive," he said.
Annabeth's heart jumped and so did the baby.
"Really?"
"Yes. You should ask Nico if he thinks Percy is really dead. But before that, how long have you been having these dreams?"
"Two weeks."
Chiron scratched his chin. Grover entered the room.
"Chiron!" He said, then he noticed Annabeth. "Oh. I didn't mean to interrupt."
"It's okay," Annabeth said.
"I need to tell you something," Grover said.
"Yes?" Chiron asked.
"I don't think Percy is dead. I've been having dreams of him."
Chiron and Annabeth looked at each other.
"You have?" They said at the same time.
"Yes. He keeps saying that Chaos has him imprisoned and that he made some sort of deal with him."
"Does he say anything else?"
"Yes. He says that he wants to see his child."
They were silent for a moment. Annabeth was reeling from the news. Percy was alive? He was imprisoned by Chaos? That would explain the shadowy figure she'd seen in her dreams.
"How long have you been having these dreams?" Chiron asked.
"Two weeks."
"Why didn't you tell us sooner?"
"Well, Annabeth was at Camp Jupiter and I wanted to tell the both of you."
"Do you think we can get him back?" Annabeth asked.
"We can certainly try," Chiron said.

Meanwhile, Percy was having a horrible time. He kept trying to escape. Chaos kept catching him. Percy had figured out how to send messages to Grover who he had a telepathic link with. He had also sent messages to Annabeth, but they were harder to send than the ones to Grover. Percy was now kept in a room that had no door. There was a window, but it was shut tight due to magic. There was no breaking it, Percy had tried. Chaos came in three times a day. He didn't need a door, he just walked through the wall. He brought food each time and a game. Chaos said Percy could come out into the house if he promised not to try to escape again. Percy had promised (not on the River Styx) and tried to escape once Chaos's back was turned, but was unsuccessful. Now Chaos wouldn't let him out unless he swore on the River Styx. Percy longed to go back. He longed to see Annabeth again. He longed to see their baby. If he didn't get out, his baby wouldn't know him until they were about nine years old. Chaos entered the room with a plate of blue pancakes. It was morning. Percy and Chaos ate at the small table in the room. They both said nothing. When they were done eating, Chaos asked, "Won't you come into the house? I would much rather you be in the house than cooped up in this room."
"I would much rather be with Annabeth," Percy shot back.
"Unfortunately for you, that will not be happening. You are to stay here until the end of the ten years."
Percy said nothing, only stared.
"I brought checkers for us to play."
They played checkers. Percy could have refused to play with Chaos at all, but there was no point. He liked having something to do.
"Can I see Annabeth again?"
"No. Seeing her the first time caused all this. I won't let you see her again until you have promised on the River Styx not to escape."
