A Gift for Emily
(By CmptrWz)
"A gift?" Emily said, looking at the wrapped box on her desk. "Why is the Family sending me a gift?"
After examining it from multiple angles, and knowing it had already passed several scans to make it to her desk, she finally relented and opened it. She took the instructions for the odd device out of the box and started to read them, initially recoiling in horror, and then getting a nasty grin on her face.
"So you used your constant matter creation trick to make Director Piggot a gift?" Lisa said, looking oddly at Taylor. "Why?"
"I also figured out how to make the matter only stable within a certain distance of the item creating it," Taylor said. "Nine feet, in this case, and the created matter only lasts at most an hour inside that range."
"Ok…"
"It also doesn't create much matter at a time, and I figured out how to rig a safety switch. If it isn't getting a half volt of electricity across the contacts I included it doesn't create matter at all."
"Useful, maybe?" Lisa hedged, looking over at Amy. Who looked just as confused.
"And if you reverse the polarity on the contacts and put a hundred volts through it forcibly times out all of the matter the device has created."
"I don't get why she would want your creation," Amy finally said, trying to get Taylor to get to the point.
"Well it was also designed to fit inside the light fixture of a prison cell such that it shouldn't be obvious," Taylor added, grinning.
"So?" Lisa asked
"I figured Director Piggot would like to have it installed in Calvert's cell," Taylor said.
"WHY?" Amy and Lisa both yelled.
"Where else would you expect her to put it, given that I have it set to generate minute amounts of thioacetone when active?"
Lisa thought about that for a few seconds, thought about what it would mean for Coil, and then couldn't help herself. She lept over the table and kissed Taylor. Then, when she realized what she had just done she jumped back, embarrassed.
Amy was no help, having fallen over laughing.
