Confusing Calvert

Thomas dismissed the timeline where his men had, apparently, found that one of the emergency escape tunnels no longer existed, instead leading into the damned void, which started spilling into the base. Not only was outside the base causing issues for him, now it was happening inside the base.

What did he do to deserve this? He couldn't think of anything that was worthy of this.

Splitting timelines again he had patrols reverse in one timeline, hoping to catch something out of place with the changed patrol pattern. Five minutes later two different teams reported oddness in one timeline but not the other. Resisting the urge to slam his head on the table in both timelines he checked and found that the two teams were, apparently, staring at each other through a doorway.

This would be fine, if the teams weren't at OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE BASE. The other timeline showed no such anomaly.

Dismissing that timeline before the void likely made an appearance he split timelines again. This time he sent instructions to one of his agents to cause trouble while the PRT was occupied with the chemical spill issue. That lasted all of five minutes before the void dropped on him like a hammer. No warning, no clue why, all of a sudden it was just there.

Scowling he dismissed that timeline and paced in his office for a minute or two. Looking over the video wall nothing appeared to be out of place. To be sure he went and double-checked the feeds from his backup facilities, nothing wrong there. No unusual activity. Nothing to worry about.

Considering things some more he split timelines again and checked on a routine hardware check in the data center in one timeline while running a (for him) routine test of the self destruct system at one of the remote facilities.

Five minutes later he was wondering what went wrong, as the facility reported that all charges had been fired, but nothing had exploded. If the detonators all went off how did nothing go boom? Then the damned void dropped in. Damnit, yet more oddness with whatever was interfering with his powers. He dropped that timeline, but made mental note to have someone check that facility anyway, maybe there was a problem with the detonator connections and it wasn't related to the void descending.

He split timelines and tried testing the other remote facility's self destruct. It failed in the exact same way, just before the void descended upon him. He dismissed that timeline, split again, and for shits and giggles tested his main facility's self destruct. The void descended upon him a few seconds after things should have gone boom. Dropping that timeline he thought.

A few minutes later he had no idea. Splitting timelines again he sent a patrol to check the connections to the remote facilities, maybe the problem was there. Only for that patrol to report that the door to the data center room was gone, replaced with a small village, as though looking out the doors of a castle?

Scowling he dropped that timeline. Why was everything going wrong today?
