Summer was slowly coming to an end and it gave James mixed feelings. So far this had been one of the best summers ever for him and he didn't want it to end, but on the other hand this meant that he would return to Hogwarts. He felt a bit uneasy that he wasn't able to perform magic at home, being seventeen seemed still so far. Another four years of only doing magic at school. His mother became irritated when he expressed his restless feeling. "Oh son." She sighed. "First you can't wait until you turn eleven so you can go to Hogwarts. That was all you could think about and wait for. You even marked September first in your calendar, counting down the days. And now that you finally enrolled, you complain about this! As soon as you get what you want you immediately find something else. Can you just enjoy the fact that you can go to Hogwarts finally? And not just say okay and move on to the next thing you want in life? Try to remember how badly you wanted this and enjoy that you're there now." The Potters, Sirius, Remus and Peter were all sitting in the dining room of the Potter Mansion, discussing returning to Hogwarts. Peter and Remus were leaving the next morning and the next time they would be together again was on the Hogwarts Express.
James rolled his eyes, annoyed by his mother and her concern. What did it matter that he wanted something new when he achieved his first goal? He couldn't see anything negative about this. This meant that he always had something he was working for of waiting for and he wouldn't just wander around aimlessly, not achieving anything in his life. He looked at his friends. Remus had the same quality but he wanted different things, he thought, Remus wants to get good grades and learn a lot. James was close to making a cheeky comment back to his mother, but he swallowed his words. She had quite a rough time during their trip away and she still looked worried.
It happened during their third and final city. In the end they decided to visit Belfast and not Dublin. They had a great time in Newcastle and Edinburgh. They saw a lot of great things, ate good and also some weird food and met a lot of people. But during their second day in Belfast his father collapsed on the street. Everybody rushed over to Fleamont, who was still breathing but unconscious anymore. Euphemia had planned the trip and she was as narrow as someone could be, so she knew exactly how to get to the nearest magical hospital. First James was afraid that he dad was still sick with the Dragon Pox, but his mother assured him that they were gone. After three hours of checks, blood tests and other stuff the Healers concluded that Fleamont his health and immune system had taken a hit when he had been sick. The Pox were gone, but he was still recovering from this and due to his age this took longer than usual. "Well, the fact that you've been busy the past week every single day and traveled a lot didn't really help him." Euphemia's face was white, her eyes looked worried and she had a strong hold on her handbag. "Did he say to anyone of you that he might have been feeling a little bit under the weather or ill?" The Healer asked them but everybody shook their heads. Fleamont had seem fine that morning and even made jokes during breakfast. The Healer wrote it all down and decided that Fleamont was ready to be discharged within the next hour, but he should take it easy for the rest of the trip and also back home.
That night they decided to return back home first thing in the morning, despite Fleamont his objections. So they had packed their stuff and enjoyed their last night in Belfast. That night the four friends sat down in the lobby of the hotel they were staying at, too tired to go out but not ready to go to bed yet. "Hey Sirius, mate, I am sorry we have to go so soon." James said, but Sirius shook his head. "No, don't apologize. It's fine! I'm just happy that your dad is okay. And it kind of gives me an excuse to say it was just a fling, you know." He grinned and relaxed in his chair. Remus glared over the edge of his book at Sirius but said nothing and Peter looked at him in awe. The four of them had ran into two girls in Edinburgh who were travelling on their own. They just turned sixteen and were students at Beauxbatons.
The four boys hung out with them two nights in Edinburgh and the girls had promised to travel to Belfast as well to meet them there. Both of the girls showed interest in the boys, but mostly they were interested in Sirius. They also had only bothered to ask him for his age after they found he was the oldest of the four of them and Sirius lied about turning sixteen in two weeks, so they probably just assumed that the other boys were sixteen or fifteen as well. Sirius didn't realize that they were giggling the most at his stories and were looking at him quite a lot. Remus had already checked out of the conversation a while ago and just sat there, amused by the play being put up in front of him. Peter was sweating a bit and only answered when somebody asked him something, but it was usually a short answer.
The two nights in Edinburgh were filled with laughter, crazy stories that were only half true and giggles. At one point one of the girls said that she must have dropped something a few streets back and asked Sirius to walk back to go and look for it, while we would wait for them here. She exchanged a few looks with her friend before taking off with a shrugging Sirius who couldn't really look that bothered. After ten minutes of being gone, James asked the remaining girl if they shouldn't start looking for them, maybe they got lost. She laughed and rolled her eyes at him. James felt somehow insulted. Did he say something stupid? But before he could either retort or ask her about it he already heard the voice of Sirius. He turned around the corner and James huffed. He could also hear Remus and Peter making a small sound of shock. Sirius and the girl were walking back to them and holding hands. James made eye contact and Sirius gave him a knowing look while looking smug. And all of the sudden James understood why the girl had laughed. She knew that her friend didn't lose anything. She wanted Sirius alone and needed an excuse.
That night once they were back in their room the three others asked Sirius what happened. He told them the following story. They walked back about two, three streets and Sirius started looking down the street, asking what exactly she had lost. She said she had just found it in her bag and took a step closer to Sirius. He looked up and said that maybe next time she should look twice before heading out on a search and he took a few steps from where they came from, but this also made him get close to her. She shrugged, took one step closer and put her hand on his upper arm. "But do you really mind being with me here right, alone?" And she emphasized that last word while looking into his eyes. At that point Sirius knew what was up and somehow all of his irritations were gone. "Did you feel nervous?" Peter asked. Sirius shook, smiling powerful. "Nah, not at all. Somehow you just know what to do when the time comes." James somehow had the feeling his best friend wasn't that honest, but Sirius looked believable. "And?" James asked. "Did you kiss her?" Sirius looked for a few seconds in their eyes and then nodded. The three of them laughed and hit Sirius on his back. "Yes, mate!" Sirius couldn't help but grin.
"How was it?" Remus asked after a few moments. Sirius looked at his friend. "It is weird to explain, but it is quite nice. It was warm and enjoyable. Ten out of ten I would do it again." The rest of the night they were cracking jokes about it and one by one everyone fell asleep. James was the last one to stay awake and was thinking about it. What if one the girls had asked him with them instead of Sirius? That would have been his first kiss. He wouldn't have mind that being with one of the girls, but somehow he had the feeling that he would like it more with someone he already knew. Someone he knew he liked being around. And that moment for the first time since the summer holiday started, Lily Evans popped back up in his mind. James groaned. What did this mean? Did he like her? But why? She wasn't always that nice to him and somehow he felt always like a fool when he was close to her. What if she thought he was a git or even worse? But when she smiled, her eyes sparkled along. And when she turned around, her hair was dancing around her face and shoulders, sometimes glowing a bit when she was in direct sunlight. She was smart and kind, sticking up for the shyer people.
But there was also a shadow around her, in the form of a boy named Snivellus. He always loomed around her, like a bat, waiting to strike his prey. James did not like him one bit and especially the fact that he was around Lily so much did strike a nerve with him. He felt agitated and he tossed himself onto his side, slapping his pillow to make it softer. "Forget about him and her." He murmured to himself. And after a few minutes he could and he slowly started drifting into sleep.
Author's note: Hi guys! Sorry for the long pause. I am planning on continuing for sure, but I don't have much time. Due to this I have written out the big lines of the story I want to cover. Chapters will be made with specific subjects that will be covered, so the story makes more sense and motivates me more to keep writing. Feel free to review or leave other comments! Love hearing from you guys!
