Baby Cousin Returns!
(by ShadowVulpix)
Missy groaned as she left the house, her disguise of Cloak hidden in her storage bracelet.
"They can never stop arguing, can they?" She griped, turning towards her hiding place. "Just have to keep fighting with each other." Expanding the space between the plants and walking through without difficulty, she warped the space around her into a cylinder and made herself invisible, before dropping the bag and rummaging through it, pulling out her 'Vista' visor and putting it on, then swinging the cloak around her and linking the pocket in her cloak to her hood. Throwing the bag inside and stepping up onto one of her platforms, she began the climb upwards to the top of the city, wondering if she should go and cause some trouble for the local criminals.
"This is a minor issue." Missy said quietly, some three hours later, from her position a good couple of miles above the city. "It looks like all of the criminals are on break. Seriously, one attempted robbery? One? In three hours?" She grouched, adjusting her platform to sit down on nothing and pulling a bag of doughnuts from her hood pocket. "At least I have doughnuts, I guess." Taking one out to eat, she continued staring around the city, hoping something would catch her eye and give her something to do. "Maybe I should go and see if Saurial's in. I could do with some more maths lessons, anyway." Decision made, Missy stood from the chair she'd made on thin air and oriented herself, heading towards the DWU at a run.
Hopefully they'd have something interesting to do.
"Vista's back." Taylor commented, looking up from her book. Amy and Lisa came out of the workroom in their reptilian forms, having only arrived a few minutes beforehand due to delays, and cocked their heads.
"Really?" Lisa asked, to a nod. "Huh. Been a while for her, hasn't it? Think she's back for more of your math lessons?"
"Probably." Taylor shrugged. "Should we throw up another round of baby dragon appearances? He hasn't been present for a few weeks." In response, the tiny Night Fury popped onto the table and looked up at her with glowing eyes.
"I don't mind." Varga told her, curling into a ball on the table. "It's quite amusing being in this form."
"You just like being fussed over." Taylor retorted.
"True." He flicked his wings. "It's a far cry from the normal reaction I used to get, after all." Gently, Taylor ran a finger down his back, then stood and transformed into Saurial as a knock came from the door. Amy went to open it, while Taylor quickly hid her truck behind an EDM box and Lisa went to go cuddle the baby dragon.
"Hey Cloak." 'Ianthe' said cheerfully, standing aside to let the little Cape in. "Nice to see you again."
"Nice to see you too, Ianthe." She replied, sounding a bit downtrodden.
"What's the problem, my oh-so favourite student?" 'Saurial' questioned, putting an arm around her while Amy closed the door.
"My parents got into a bit of an argument, so I left to go run around as Cloak for a bit." The girl admitted, disabling the built-in voice changer. "That was about three hours ago, and I thought I might find some idiots causing trouble that I could deal with. It looks like all the crooks are on holiday, though; I only ran into one attempted robbery. One!"
"That is a bit surprising, yes." Amy agreed. "Normally we find that the gangs have a plethora of idiots willing to do something stupid when the Capes up top are keeping their heads down. I wonder what changed?"
"Maybe we've finally caught enough of them that they've started to retire." 'Metis' joked, while mini-Varga raised his head to look at them all owlishly.
"We can hope." Vista smiled slightly, pulling the bag of doughnuts from her hood and flipping it down, then slumping into one of the nearby chairs. She picked up the bag again and offered it around. Each of the nearby reptiles took one, with Lisa putting the mini dragon on the table to do so. This drew Vista's attention, and she gasped. "Oh my goodness he's so cute!" She said excitedly. "Is this your cousin?"
"Yeah, this is our little cousin." Taylor confirmed.
"Hello there." Vista cooed, peeling off the gloves and holding her hand out to him to smell. "I'm Vista, or Cloak sometimes. It's nice to meet you." Laying her hand flat on the table, palm up, she allowed the Varga to crawl on her and brought him up near her face, where he promptly started sniffing at the doughnut. She looked worriedly at 'Saurial', who grinned.
"I think he's just decided he's interested in doughnuts." She laughed.
"Can I…?" The Ward asked, nodding at him.
"Sure. Just be careful, he's still teething a bit, so you might want to break it into pieces for him." Taylor handed the girl a plate for the doughnut, and Vista carefully placed it down before breaking a piece off and offering it to the Varga. He snapped it from her fingers, making her yelp in surprise and flinch back, then chuckle and break off another bit.
"We've been hearing quite a lot about him the past few weeks." Vista said conversationally. "Assault and Battery were here last time with Dragon, they said, and for a few days Battery couldn't stop talking about him, she was so excited." She raised an eyebrow slightly.
"Yeah, they seemed to have fun. Amy and Taylor enjoyed it as well."
"They were here?"
"Taylor came in with Amy when she finished her homework, and since Amy had just done a trip to the hospital she picked her up on the way in." 'Ianthe' explained, suppressing amusement. Lisa slammed her palm into her forehead, making them all look at her in confusion.
"Dragon." She sighed, reaching for her belt and digging for her phone. "We promised her we'd send a message the next time we had our cousin over to babysit."
"To be fair, it was very last minute." Taylor replied. "We only just got back from picking him up."
"Yeah. Still should probably tell her, though. We did promise, after all." Lisa returned, taking out her 'Metis' phone. She looked at Vista. "If she does come, you'll probably have to go back to being Cloak again. Is that alright?"
"It's no problem." She shrugged, feeding Varga another bit of doughnut. "I came out as Cloak to mess around anyway, and I can play with your cousin just as well as Cloak as I can as me." Lisa watched her face for a moment, searching for any sign that it might be a lie, then nodded, typing out a message in quick shorthand and sending it to the Tinker.
"Hey Ianthe, do you have any of those ropes left?" Taylor asked, looking at the purple reptile beside her.
"Probably. I could make more anyway."
"Great. Could you go grab some? Just get a couple of them, please." Confused, Vista watched Amy go to her workroom, returning a few minutes later with a pair of long, pinkish ropes. Varga made a little squeak, making her chuckle and feed him another bit of doughnut, while Taylor took the ropes. "Vista, want to try a little test? It's probably going to be pretty difficult to do, and I think it'll take a lot of focus, but you might manage to do it easier than me."
"Sure." Vista replied, interested, absently feeding the Varga another piece of the doughnut. "What's your idea?"
Taylor grinned.
Dragon twitched slightly at the unexpected message from Metis. Curious, she opened it, then grinned.
'Cousin's here. Only got him for the afternoon, trouble with aunt and uncle at home. Only just got back, remembered our promise to you. Cloak's here as well, keeping him entertained. He seems to enjoy it. Come if you want, we don't mind. M.'
Standing up from her chair, she began moving towards the door, making Colin look over.
"Going somewhere?"
"BBFO." She replied. "Metis says they've got their cousin over for the afternoon, so I was going to say hello. Apparently Cloak's there as well, so I was hoping to meet her too." That seemed to get his attention.
"Do you think they would mind if I came along?" He asked.
"Probably not, as long as you don't mind playing with the baby and don't just plan to hover in the background trying to talk with Cloak." Dragon told him. Colin looked apprehensive for a moment, as if privately contemplating whether or not it was worth it, then nodded, saving his design and standing.
"Alright." He sighed a little. "I can manage that."
"Great!" She smiled. "I'll message ahead and meet you there." She headed for the outside as fast as she could reasonably allow, sending Metis another message as she did so.
Everyone looked over as Lisa's 'Metis' phone buzzed.
"Well?" 'Ianthe' asked, holding the tiny Varga and rocking him around slightly, to his amusement.
"Dragon's coming down, and says thanks for the invitation. She's also bringing Armsmaster with her, and that she's sorry for not asking first and hope's that that's alright?" The entire room traded glances, though Vista's was now hidden behind the spacial warp that made up her hood.
"I guess that's fine." Taylor shrugged. "Though hopefully he's not just here to pester Cloak about things."
"Dragon plans to keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't do that." 'Metis' assured. "Don't worry about that." Taylor exchanged a dubious look with her Varga, then went back over to 'Cloak.'
"How're they doing?" She asked, sitting on her tail.
"Alright." The Ward replied, focusing on creating another warp cube. "It's a bit harder than I expected keeping all of them stable at the same time, though."
"Wait, really?" Taylor reached a clawed hand over to the nearest one, picking it up and twirling it between her claws, making the other 'cousins' wince slightly. "Did you tie it off right?"
"I think I did." She said. "Here, this is what I've been doing to it." Vista held out the little patch of abused space towards 'Saurial' and twisted something, making it pop into place as a faint cube of distortions.
"Ah, I see." Taylor nodded. "Right, here's the problem. This dimension and this one are too separate, when they should be more twisted, like- hold on, move a bit so I can reach in? Thank you- like this. That makes it more self-sustaining, so the warps are less likely to come apart. Like gluing one of the cardboard slot-together things, instead of just slotting the bits into place and hoping it doesn't fall apart."
"Oh." Vista sighed. "Thanks, Saurial. Now I'll have to fix that on the rest of them."
"Don't bother." Taylor waved her off, picking up another cube and twisting. "I'll sort these out, then I'll join you in making more. Just try not to make that mistake again, and you'll be fine."
"I don't think I will, now you've shown me what to do." She admitted. "It seems really obvious now that I know about it."
"Things always do." Lisa said wisely. "Should I start putting these around?"
"Sure. They should self-stick in the air." Taylor told her, glancing at 'Cloak.' She nodded inside the hood, making the material twitch slightly.
"I got that right, at least." She looked mildly worried for a moment. "At least, I hope I did." Taylor poked one of the distortions, a look of concentration on her face, and nodded.
"Yeah, they're fine. Don't doubt yourself, you're doing great at this. Hell, you're picking this up faster than I did at your age."
Amy, Lisa and Varga all hastily hid snorts of varying severity.
"Really?" Vista stopped what she was doing and looked at her, shocked.
"Yeah. I was… not the best… with these things." She picked one up again and twirled it. "They gave me really bad headaches as a kid. I could get some of the maths, sure, but doing it? No-go." Taylor threw it into the air, letting it stick, then snatching it back. "It wasn't until really recently that I managed to be able to make them, actually."
Amy was practically biting through her lip trying to contain her giggles. Lisa had taken to staring at her phone like it was the most incredible thing ever, while the Varga had nearly fallen off Amy's palm laughing.
"Huh. That's kind of surprising, actually." Vista said slowly, going back to making the little pockets of space. "You're so good at this I kinda assumed you'd been doing it for years."
"I picked it up pretty quickly once I was able, yeah. It made up for the years I wasn't able to do it, so I'm about normal, maybe slightly better than normal now." Taylor grinned, picking up another cube and walking away from the table to hang it up in the air. "Now, Metis, are you going to help put these up?"
"Yeah. Sure." Lisa choked. She cleared her throat. "Sorry. Where do you want them?"
"Anywhere will do." She told her, sticking another one up. "Just don't go too close to the door, and maybe leave a path towards the table."
"Right. Makes sense." Putting her phone into one of the pouch pockets, she picked up a collection of little warps and began placing them around at different heights.
"So what's actually the plan for this, Saurial?" Amy asked, scratching the Varga's head. Taylor's smirk grew.
"Well…"
Dragon landed outside the BBFO and folded away her jets with a grin. Quickly heading over to the door, she tapped gently on it, not wanting to disturb anyone if the little dragon was asleep or something. Ianthe met her at the door, smiling slightly.
"Hi, Dragon." The purple reptile grinned. "Nice to have you back."
"Hello Ianthe." She returned. "Armsmaster will be along in a minute. He has to bring his bike over on the ferry, and it's a bit of a slow process compared to flying directly here over the city."
"I can imagine." She said. "We normally follow the roads around the city, but of course Raptaur can just run right over everything, which means she tends to get to places first." Ianthe stepped aside. "Anyway, come on in. Be careful, Saurial had… ideas, so the room's a bit of a mess. Just follow the painted bit, you should be alright then."
Slightly worried by that, Dragon walked in, letting the healer close the door behind her, and stared.
"What on earth…?" She whispered, gazing about.
"Pretty, isn't it?" Cloak asked, appearing at her side and making her twitch slightly. "Saurial and I spent a while getting all of this set up. Metis helped, of course, but we were the ones making them."
"They are very interesting." Dragon agreed. "It's nice to meet you, Cloak."
"And yourself, Dragon." The short, hooded figure held out a hand for her to shake, which she did. "Saurial's told me rather a bit about you. As have the others, in fact. It's nice to meet you personally." Dragon nodded.
"If you don't mind me asking, what is all… this?" She questioned, waving around at the spots of warped space all over the room.
"Saurial and I set them up for the little cousin." Cloak told her. "Saurial's just finishing the last part up now, in fact. It's quite pretty, though it's beyond my skill level at the moment."
"It shouldn't be for long, though." Saurial called from her spot at the table, hunched over something. "Like I said earlier, you're picking this all up a lot faster than I did at your age. I'd guess a few more weeks, maybe a month, if you keep practising."
"Thank you, Saurial." Cloak sounded pleased. "That's very optimistic of you."
"Hey, I call it like I see it." The girl grinned in return. "Now come here, and we'll start this up."
"What is it?" Dragon asked her. Saurial smirked.
"You'll see." Intrigued, Dragon followed Cloak over to the table, and stared at the thing sitting there.
"What the…"
"Alright, I think it's done." Saurial said, a little dubiously. "Pretty sure I got all of them." Cloak put a hand into the thing, emoting a frown.
"It feels like it from here, too. Looks about right." Saurial put her hand there as well, both of them poking around inside the strange spacial warp sitting on the table for a few minutes before pulling back.
"Yeah, it's good. Everything's connected to this one, and none are connected to anything else. Hopefully this works right, I'll never hear the end of it if it doesn't."
"No, you won't, cousin." Metis grinned, coming over with her hands closed. "Not after how confidently you were proclaiming that it was going to work five minutes ago."
"Shut up and let our cousin out." Saurial scowled. Cloak laughed.
"Apparently the little guy managed to figure out that you were coming from our conversation while we were setting the rest of this up." She explained to Dragon, who was feeling somewhat bewildered. "He started flying around like a little maniac, getting really excited. He nearly ran into a couple of the warps, so we had to have Metis take him out of the room before he hurt himself."
"Really?" Dragon felt strangely honoured.
"Yeah." The black lizard replied. "Here, hold your hand out." Dragon did so, and Metis slowly opened her hands, letting a little black blur shoot out. He whizzed around for a moment on unsteady wings, then circled Dragon's head and settled on her palm with a happy chirp.
"Hello little guy." She said quietly, emoting a smile at him and running a finger down his back. "I'm glad to see you too. You should be careful though, you don't want to worry your family, do you?" He cocked his head to the side, chirping again, and she laughed. "No, I guess you don't." Still running her hand down the little dragon's back, she looked over at Saurial. "So what does this creation of yours do, anyway?" Saurial chuckled.
"Hey Ianthe, pass me the ropes, will you?" A box slid over the table, avoiding the warp in the centre, from the purple lizard, who'd somehow gotten over to the other side of the room without her noticing. "Thank you." Taking one of the familiar pink ropes from the box, Saurial fed it into the thing, holding on to about two inches on the end. "Cloak, push the thing on the side and start it."
"Alright." The little figure seemed excited, Dragon thought, as she reached out and touched something on the side, making it click. The thing seemed to hum quietly, and Dragon looked at it in confusion. Saurial formed a little thing to hold the rope for her and went to the other side, interacting with something there, then grinned widely.
"Perfect." She crowed, turning to Cloak and high-fiving her. "Absolutely perfect. I told you it would work."
"Yes, cousin, I suppose you did." Metis rolled her eyes. "Now, how about explaining to Dragon what it does, because she missed the explanation and is likely confused." The AI nodded slightly, and Saurial chuckled.
"Turn around." Internally raising an eyebrow at her, she did, then gaped.
The entire room had lit up in a dull silvery colour, all of the warps suddenly seeming to produce their own light and glow. For the first time since entering, Dragon realised how many of them there was, and mentally nodded in respect of the abilities of both Saurial and Cloak for setting this up as quickly as they obviously had.
From her palm, the little dragon squeaked, making her look down as he crouched towards her palm, then leapt forwards, fluttering his wings in a somewhat unstable flight towards the nearest warp, which she now noticed had the end of a long pink rope trailing from it.
"Oh my god." She murmured, staring at it. "That's incredible."
"Thanks." Cloak laughed. "It took longer to get set up than we realised it would, actually, since we needed to connect the warps to the main console, but not to each other."
"What would have happened if you'd connected them to each other?" Dragon asked, still watching the dragon chew at the rope.
"The rope would split, making it come out of every one of the warps at once." Saurial explained. "It shouldn't have been too bad, maybe, but we're still not completely sure how that would work and we don't want to test anything possibly dangerous with our cousin or Cloak in the room."
"It's incredibly impressive, from a Tinker point of view." She complemented. "And I can see an awful lot of ways this could be used in some of the things I've built to make them more efficient." Saurial chuckled slightly.
"Thanks. We'll have to see about looking over some designs the next time everyone's together, maybe we could put something really impressive together."
"Not that you haven't done that already, of course." Metis added. "It'd just be more so." Dragon nodded, then twitched slightly as the rope moved, forcing the little dragon off of it, before vanishing.
"Don't worry, we just moved it somewhere else." Saurial grinned. "The original plan I had for this was to automate it in some way, which would cause the rope to move randomly about the room for the hatchling to play tag with. It would still need monitoring, of course, he is still a baby and I wouldn't want him hurting himself because he got too tired and slipped or something, but otherwise it should be a good way to let the more energetic hatchlings tired themselves out to make them easier to handle." Quietly, Metis hissed something, which caused Saurial to frown at her and say something back, leading to a hissed conversation of what sounded like insults. Cloak and Dragon both watched with interest, before Ianthe came over.
"Metis just implied that this device is something our aunt and uncle- Saurial's parents- would have liked when she was a hatchling, given how much trouble she used to cause." The purple lizard told them. "From there, it's pretty much descended into trading insults."
"I don't know why I expected something different, but I did." Cloak sighed. "Do they do this often?"
"Often enough." Ianthe smiled. "Then again, sometimes it's Metis and Raptaur, or Metis and myself, or some other combination of the same. It's all petty, but it's also pretty amusing from time to time."
"I see." A small squeak came from inside the maze of warps, distracting the entire group and making them look over, to see the hatchling come flying back unsteadily. Quickly Dragon held out her hands, letting the small black shape land on them, while they all looked at what he'd done.
The medium length of pink rope sat there, haphazardly coiled up in front of him, while the dragon looked up at the AI with a cocked head.
Dragon chuckled. "Oh, you." Shifting her hand slightly to free one of them, she gently petted him on the head, making him squeak happily. "How did you get that out of the holder, hmm?"
"It wasn't being held down all that tightly to begin with." Saurial commented. "Just enough to stop it dropping out due to gravity, but clearly not enough to stop the brave attack by the baby cousin, no?" Saurial's voice began to coo slightly at the end, as she reached across from her position and scratched her cousin under the cheek. "Not quite enough." Carefully, Saurial took the rope from Dragon's palm, placing it back in the holder and reforming it to hold the thing better, before starting everything up again to start moving the rope around. After a minute, the baby dragon noticed the movement of the rope, once Saurial had brought it closer, and crouched again, leaping off and flying towards it once Dragon had moved her hand to give him room. Soon he was engaged in hunting down the ever-moving chewing rope again, making happy little squeaks every time he caught it.
It was this that Armsmaster walked in on.
"What the hell?"
Missy sipped the can of soda slowly, careful not to let it overflow and spill into the pocket the hood linked to. It was a bit of a pain at times, making sure that the hole was big enough to eat or drink through, but not big enough to accidentally out herself, but it worked well enough so she'd keep using it. Looking idly around the table, she quietly smirked to herself.
Ianthe and Metis were wandering around the room, picking the little space warps out of the air and placing them into a box Saurial had made minutes before. Given their nature of sticking to things, Missy assumed the girl had done something to make sure they would be able to take them back out, or maybe she was assuming her space warping could take them out of the box again if they were needed.
Dragon was sitting next to her with the little cousin dragon on her hand again, with the little guy curled up into a small ball and sleeping, his wings lying at his sides rather than over his head, while Dragon gently stroked him. Or maybe he was only half-asleep, given that his small tail was waving slightly in contentment. Dragon herself was emoting a smile very vividly through her armour, making Missy grin as well, before she continued over to the last pair in their odd group.
Armsmaster and Saurial were sitting next to each other, each holding a mug of coffee and leaning over the device she and Saurial had created together- more Saurial than her, but they'd still worked together on it. Quietly, Saurial was pointing things out on the faint machine-warp, explaining what they did, while Armsmaster nodded, slowly and understandingly, seemingly impressed by their work. A few times, Missy had seen him look over at her with something like respect, which made her grin silently.
I wonder what he'd think if he knew who I was behind this hood, Missy thought. Wonder if he'd be so impressed then. Suddenly curious about the conversation, she focused in on the duo on the other side of the table, listening.
"And the two of you did this in how long?" Armsmaster sounded slightly incredulous.
"About a half hour." Saurial replied, amused. "The individual warps over there took way longer, since there was a minor mistake in the earlier ones that meant they were unravelling on their own instead of being stable, but we caught it quickly enough that it wasn't much of an issue."
"Unbelievable." The Tinker mumbled, inspecting the thing again. "And anyone could do this?" Saurial rocked her hand.
"Theoretically." She said diplomatically. "If they had a good grasp on the maths, a lot of focus, and a mind that works well with multi-dimensional structures, then yeah. Most other people, it'd be touch and go. Cloak's family are naturally odd enough to get a handle on this without too much trouble."
"Hey!" Missy called, trying to sound offended and not quite managing it.
"Saying it like it is, Cloak." Saurial grinned back. "But yeah, most people would likely struggle with this. I think it's the maths." She gestured towards the little book at her side, which Missy had noticed her make at some point during the explanation to use for the workings out. Armsmaster winced.
"Yes, I can certainly see why that would be the case." He grumbled. "Just thinking about that… 'math' gives me a headache." She raised an eyebrow at the tone of his voice.
"It can be pretty bad, apparently." Saurial shrugged. "Not sure why, if I'm honest."
"Probably because it's a mess, cousin." Metis snarked in return. Another short insult-argument in the Family language followed, until Ianthe sighed and smacked her sister around the head with her tail, making the black reptile move her ire to her instead. Missy watched with amusement for a few minutes, then went back to her soda, stifling a chuckle. Instead, her gaze moved back to Dragon, who was still coddling the baby in her hands with an emoted grin, making her grin in turn.
A quiet snap of a camera made her jump and look around for the source, spotting Metis putting her phone away with an unashamed grin.
"Really, Metis?" Saurial sighed.
"They look adorable, so yes." She grinned wider. "You'll get no apologies from me."
"Just as well, I suppose, that I don't mind." Dragon said drily. Missy giggled a little.
"You two do look very cute together, I agree." She commented, making Dragon laugh slightly.
Apparently woken by the noise, the baby dragon yawned and looked around. His gaze landed on Armsmaster, and what Missy could see of his face seemed to frown curiously, before he crouched and took off again, making his way across the table towards the Protectorate Tinker. Landing next to him, the dragon sniffed at the air for a moment, then chirped cheerfully and nudged at his arm. Suddenly looking very worried, he glanced sideways at Saurial, who grinned.
"Just let him climb onto your hand, Armsmaster. That seems to be his spot now." She said. Slowly, the man did just that, moving his hand to let the baby dragon climb up, where he proceeded to curl up with a happy-sounding sigh.
"I think he remembers you from before, Armsmaster." Ianthe commented.
"Before?" Missy cocked her head, the hood of her cloak moving slightly with the action and barely relaying her intentions.
"Oh, didn't the girls tell you?" Dragon asked, suddenly sounding maliciously amused and completely ignoring the look her friend was giving her from the other side of the table- although, Missy mused, that might have been because the effect was somewhat dampened by the baby dragon he was gently petting. "When we first met this little guy, he fell asleep against Armsmaster's power suit." Missy snorted.
"I think I'd like to hear that story."
"There's not much to tell, but…" Dragon went on to explain the circumstances surrounding the first visit and meeting with the baby, leaving Missy giggling like a maniac.
"Oh, that's adorable." She squeaked, which sounded extremely odd with her 'Cloak' voice on, making the others flinch slightly while the Family grinned. "I wish I'd been there."
"It was very cute, yes." Ianthe agreed. "It also caused a bit of a distraction, but let's be honest, it's worth it."
"Yup." Missy grinned, watching Armsmaster with the little dragon. He seemed a bit more comfortable with him, she noticed with amusement, and looked to have relaxed slightly. Wondering what it was about the dragon that had made him nervous, and resolving to ask Metis about it at the next opportunity when the two Tinkers were gone, she settled back again with her drink, watching her superior interact with the baby and wondering what the other Wards would say if they knew.
A thought struck her, making her hastily stifle a giggle, and she made a careful mental note to do what she planned before she left. Missy was fairly sure the others in the Family would help her out; it seemed like something they'd find hilarious as well.
Catching Metis slowly edging her phone from her belt out of the corner of her eye, she grinned wider. The black lizard noticed her glance and winked slightly, her eye flickering closed quickly enough that she would have missed it, and Missy nodded back, inclining an eyebrow. Metis nodded, making her smirk a little, and she nodded again in thanks.

Attention local humans! Please stop what you're doing, this is important.
The Family has a baby cousin. They babysit sometimes, and I was around today when they were.
Their cousin... is a dragon.
A very, very tiny dragon.
And he thinks that Tinker Dragon is the best thing ever.
Apparently he fell asleep on Armsmaster the first time Raptaur, Ianthe and Metis were babysitting. No pictures of that from me, but... he was also around today, so here.
He's absolutely the most adorable thing I've ever seen, and easily the most amusing.
For example, when Metis told Dragon that he was here, he managed to pick up on it from the context of the conversation and went nuts. He was dashing all over the BBFO building, and Metis had to take him out of the room to calm him down before he hurt himself.
Ok, that is all. You may now continue with your days.

Wait, what?
Hold on a moment, Armsmaster with the baby cousin?
Huh. I feel like I'm being messed with.

Clockblocker nope, not being messed with. Then again, the story of the first time is rather amusing, as well as explaining why the little cousin is so happy there.

Assault well, since you asked so nicely, I suppose we ought to deliver! It's not the longest story though, just something that happened.
So, we'd gotten back from our visit home a little while before, and the guys we normally meet with- Dragon, Legend, Armsmaster, Uber and Leet, that is- showed up a little while after. Raptaur went down to greet them, while Metis and I dealt with our enthusiastic cousin. The door to the room we were in ended up getting blown open by accident, since there was a breeze, and he decided to make an escape towards where the voices were. This led him downstairs, past Raptaur who was coming up, and had him land on the table.
Since he's never been around humans before, he was a little bit confused by all of the odd smells around him, so he went wandering on the table trying to figure out what was going on. In the process of doing this, he ended up nearest to Armsmaster and, through the magic of baby logic, equated metal power armour to scales. So he sniffed about at his arm for a bit, decided that that was the perfect place to fall asleep, and did so.
He was only there for a moment, because Raptaur moved him away and then Dragon spent the rest of the time there coddling him, but I've never seen a person get more nervous around a baby in my life.

Ok, that's adorable and kinda funny. Would either of you happen to have pictures?
Purely out of interest, of course!

Sorry Vista, but I wasn't at the BBFO offices at the time, so I won't be of any help to you.
Ianthe, do you have anything?

Cloak, sorry but no. And besides, I wouldn't want to post it even if I did. I don't want to do anything that might embarrass one of my friends, after all!

Ok, I have to say, that is very cute.
How well can he fly at the moment? I wouldn't have said he could fly very well, given how small his wings are. Or are they just for show, and he flies through some other method?
For that matter, I assume there's more of them? How big do they normally get?

Awww, he's so cute! I think I want to meet him.
Does he breathe fire? I guess they'd only be little beams if he could, because he's so small. Or are they little balls of fire instead? Can they do both?

Winged One
Well, he can fly, but not very well or for very long. He tends to flutter more than anything, and he has to do a bit of a leap to get into the air. You could also drop him, I suppose, but that wouldn't be very safe if he wasn't expecting it. Hatchlings aren't as durable as we are at our age, after all! He does have to use his wings to fly, but there are a couple of Family members that don't necessarily have to- and no, I don't mean Cousin Saurial! Some of them like to float instead of flying, but I have no idea how that works and they aren't saying anything.
IguanaGirl
No, our little cousin doesn't breathe fire yet; Family dragons don't get the ability to do that until they're about seven or so, which is good, since it means that the hatchling's aren't going to sneeze fireballs in their sleep or something! That could be a little dangerous for people, so I guess we're lucky there.
Normally as they grow up they need to learn to use their fire properly, and in the beginning it is more like sneezes of fire, but later on dragons can do either streams or balls of fire. I'd love to know how it all works, but for now... I think the human phrase is that it's above my pay grade.
I'm fairly sure some kind of meeting could be arranged for you, though! We'll have to try and set something up.
