"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Randall asked, in the tones of horrified fascination.
"Nope." Taylor, as Saurial, grinned, pushing the button on a blender.
"However, that isn't going to stop us from doing it anyway." The Varga, also Saurial, added, turning on another blender. Kevin gaped, peering through the clear shield in mild amazement and some horror of his own, watching as the three reptilian forms walked up and down the shelving, turning on blenders and pouring things into them.
Behind them, Lisa as Metis groaned.
"You… why?" She whined, pressing her hands to her head. "Just… why?"
"Why what, Lisa?"
"Why me, and why are you doing this?" She elaborated. "And, for that matter, what for?"
"In order, because you ended up here, why not, and because we want to see what happens." Amy answered, grinning widely and waving. "I mean, it's not like it'll hurt Taylor or the Varga to drink it, so we might as well see what happens."
"Oh, god…" Lisa sighed. "I should never have let you see what was going on in that chat room."
"Too late now, I think." Randall sighed, pulling a chair over and sitting down. "Fuck it. I'm already here, might as well see what happens with this train wreck."
"Here, here." Kevin nodded, finding his own chair. Lisa glared at them as if betrayed, then shook her head and slumped into a third.
"For the love of… no. I might as well hang around. You'll need someone sane to sort this out when it all goes strange."
"And that's you?" 'Ianthe' snarked.
"Yes. Somehow." She grumbled. "I don't know how, but I've somehow ended up as the sanity check for this place. Not that I ever get listened to when I point things out, of course."
"We listen to you, Lisa." The Varga assured her ponderously, watching the red chucky liquidy mess come to a stop. "However, some things simply must be done. For science, as it were."
"Science. Sure, whatever makes you feel better."
"Hey, quit snarking off at each other. Amy, everything looking good to you?"
"I think so." She nodded. "Just need to pour them together now."
"Excellent." Taylor hissed, rubbing her hands together. An enormous jug made an appearance between the three of them, and the girl picked up and poured the first blenderful of mostly liquid into it. "Come on, there's only about fifty of them. Sooner this is done, sooner we can move on!" Both of the other reptiles moved to help her.
Behind the wall, one reptile and two humans traded exasperated glances.
"Alright!" Taylor laughed, ten minutes later. "All fifty pepper types mixed and ready. Varga, bring in the final ingredient!"
"As you command," he intoned, before vanishing and returning with a box. Opening it revealed a number of glass bottles, filled with a clear liquid.
"To science!" Amy cheered, cracking the seal on the first one open and pouring it into the liquefied pepper vat. Taylor and Varga laughed, joining her.
It promptly caught fire.
"Holy shit!" Kevin startled, leaning back instinctively. Randall did the same, while 'Metis' merely sighed, shifting slightly forward and peering at it.
"Well done." She chuckled to herself. "I told you it would go wrong."
"What the hell happened?" Randall asked, as Taylor summoned water to drop on it, vast amounts of steam wafting out in the flame's place.
"You literally just managed to ignite the alcohol with spice." Lisa explained.
"That's possible?"
"Clearly, since it just happened." Lisa shook her head. "Well, one good thing comes of all this."
"Oh?"
"We won't have to see the end results of Taylor and Varga drinking alcohol that's just had about a billion scoville of pepper and chilli added to it." She grinned widely. "Honestly, you three, what were you expecting to happen?"
"Not like my digestion couldn't take it." Taylor shrugged, as the Varga-Saurial vanished. "So we figured 'why the hell not?' Then we did it."
"Mad, the lot of you." Lisa groaned. "Every single living being in this building is totally insane."
Amy inhaled, smirking.
"And yes, I included myself in that. I got myself stuck here with you lot, that cannot be a sign of sanity."
"It is almost definitely not, no."
