I've been wanting to write this shit.
Also, I'm back!!!
Everyone thought that Manami Okuda was the type to be oblivious to love. Well, they thought wrong.
It was subtle, nobody should have noticed--heck nobody even thought about the mere idea, but there she was. Looking at him straight at his mercury eyes, her amethyst orbs glittered behind the round rim glasses that she always wore. She literally seemed to be reading his soul, his whole being.
Her eyes were in need for answers yet she kept being silent, fingers laced to one another as if finding the courage to ask him. The two were standing behind the old building of 3-E where nobody usually goes to. The sun had already started to set and apparently Okuda has yet to say her reason for calling him right after school ended.
Sure it looked like a scene from a shoujo manga, being called by a girl to talk about something behind the school, it pretty much screamed a "confession" to him but it wasn't. Karma could feel it, this--whatever it is that Okuda wanted to talk about, it's not going to be about her having romantic feelings for him.
"You like Nagisa-kun, right?"
Her voice sounded so innocently sweet that it took him a few seconds to process her words. Karma could only imagine his face loosing its color. His heart started to thump, sweats started to form and are ready to race down his pale face.
No words could leave his lips, he was downright shocked. He could feel the weight of his nervousness in his chest, he needs to escape.
"Okuda-san, Are you implying that I'm gay?"
Shit. That came out wrong.
As soon as those words flew out of his mouth he could only think about other things he could have said instead to lessen the suspiciousness, but he couldn't take his words back.
"Aren't you?"
Again, her voice was intoxicatingly sweet and soft to his ears. Karma took a shaky breath, he was getting closer to having a heart attack.
Okuda is known for her shy yet blunt personality and her great knowledge in Science. She once openly admitted that she isn't good with fuzzy word plays and feelings. So hearing her asking about his feelings for a guy really puts him off.
Chances of her telling other isn't really ideal especially how it was still somewhat uncommon for liking someone with the same gender. Karma's reputation was at risk, as much as he likes the mentioned guy, he doesn't want to live his potentially last year on earth being judged by his peers just because of his love interest.
So yes, Karma does in fact holds romantic feelings for Nagisa. And he is going to do anything to keep his feelings from getting found out by anyone (especially Terasaka, Karma will never get to live peacefully if the idiot gets ahold of such information).
Yet Okuda knows, denying can lead to something catastrophic, admitting will give him a chance on earning pity points and that should be enough to seal her lips.
Karma took the leap of fate and decided to do the latter. He raised both of his arms in the air its as if telling her that she have caught him red-handed. A soft chuckle escaped his lips when he saw Okuda's confused expression to his small gesture.
"You got me. But can I ask, are you going to tell this to anyone?"
It took Okuda a few moments to recover from the shocking revelation that Karma openly admitted to her. She was then left like a stuttering mess to answer his question.
"O-oh! No I won't! I-it's really none of my b-business to pry about your feelings a-and in the first place I-i shouldn't have cornered Karma-kun and I am really invading your privacy and I'm so sorry about this and--"
Manami was spewing nonsense until her words were cut short by a laughing Karma.
Her face immediately took the same color like his hair. Now that her brain seems to be functioning coherently, she then realised her shameless actions and choice of words earlier during their discussion. Manami was straight up asking him his personal feelings for someone. She didn't even have a real reason for wanting to know the truth. She was just curious. Maybe now the saying curiosity killed the cat finally dawned at her, although death by embarrassment would be the most accurate in her situation.
When Karma's laughs dies down that's when Manami decided to tell him the whole story.
"I don't really have any motives from the very beginning I noticed your feelings towards Nagisa-kun. I was just curious if you were aware of it. I won't tell anyone. I promise."
Sincerity can be felt in her voice but the damage was already done and there is nothing Manami can ever do to fix it.
When the citrus sun's last glow vanished and dusk slowly turned into night, A devious smile seems to tug on Karma's lips.
"You shouldn't have called me out Okuda-san. That was your biggest mistake. "
His words seemed to weigh, mercury orbs glinting dangerously. Manami could feel that her decisions that day will haunt her forever yet the only thing she could do during that moment was to call out his name.
"Karma... kun?"
"When did you realize my feelings towards him? Because I'm quite impressed that you realized my feelings."
Lunch breaks tend to end faster when you spend your time talking with your friends rather than actually eating food. But time seems to slow down whenever Manami is with Karma and she doesn't mean it in a positively romantic way.
So when Karma said finding out his secret was a big mistake in her part, it was mainly because he turned her into someone to talk with about his love frustrations.
It somehow became a thing between the two of them, Karma mostly drags her into it. The chemist doesn't mind listening about his love problems and she wasn't judging him either. The girl was simply curious about the topic of 'a person who likes someone of the same gender'. Maybe he looked like a new science discovery to her but Karma doesn't have plans to complain about it.
The boy would ask her out for lunch and they would sit in a great distance away from the old building and under the relaxing presence of the trees looming over them. Within their designated place, they could easily see whenever anyone tries to approach them and within the safe distance Karma talks about his love interest without a care in the world.
So back to Karma's question. Manami hummed, eyes glancing above the sky as if the answer was there. The question held a complement for her, she thinks. She neatly placed her pink bento box in her lap and while doing so Karma secretly snatched one octopus hotdog.
"I can't remember when, but I just did. You were always looking at him fondly and always jokes about getting his thing done so... I had a hunch."
Manami slightly hesitated telling the second evidence the mere mention made her cheeks burn.
"Would you still have feelings for him if Nagisa-kun was born a girl?" it was Manami's turn to ask.
The question pique his interest. Karma rested his back on the grassy terrain, hands behind his head.
"I'm not sure myself, maybe or maybe not but of course I like everything about Nagisa-kun. And about your comment earlier, I'm not serious about him cutting his thing, it's just for laughs."
"Ah, I see."
A soft wind passed by and his answer was enough to satisfy Manami.
After finding out the truth behind Karma's fondly stares at Nagisa, Manami mostly spends her time with Karma whether it was during class, lunch, and after class. It wasn't long when the whole 3-E took notice of their sudden closeness.
"Okuda-chan is it true?" Kayano suddenly slams her small hands on Manami desk that startled the bespectacled teen.
"W-what is it Kayano-chan?"
"That you and Karma are dating silly!" Rio was quick in her word as she approached the two, Kayano nodding furiously as if agreeing with the mischievous blonde.
"Eehh?!"
Manami wasn't aware that such a rumour between her and Karma existed. She didn't want to point fingers but she was 100% certain that a creature that can move in mach 20 is involved. Heck she could faintly hear him whistling outside the classroom.(And he really was outside, scribbling notes while whistling, face with a light shade of pink.)
"That's quite the reaction Okuda-san~" Rio couln't help but tease the twin braided girl.
The bespectacled teen then realized that she dug her own grave because of her exaggeration.
"E-er no! I-i mean--Karma-kun and I are just friends!"
It was awkward for her especially that she was painfully aware whom the redhead holds romantic feelings to. It took quite some time to calm the class about their sleazy banter that the witch and the demon were dating. Karma was late but he did helped even just a little. He tried stabbing Korosensei for making up such rumors.
"But--but you two are always together and seemed so close to one another!" Korosensei defended when Karma was stabbing him, fake tears trickling down Korosensei's round yellowish face.
By the time the last bell rang everybody seemed to accept that there was nothing going on between the two. And as per usual, Karma and Manami walked their way to the train station.
A comfortable silence circled around them as they walk down the path away from the old building. The sky was tainted by darker shade of orange just like the one when Manami called Karma to go behind the old building.
Out of nowhere Karma remembered the commotion earlier that day, it's true that he likes Nagisa but he suddenly that about the possibilities regarding Manami. So as quickly as the thought passed his mind he hears her name suddenly leaving his lips.
"Okuda-san..."
The sudden mention of her surname had her head turn to Karma's side. She gave give a soft hum to let continue whatever it is he was going to say.
But maybe she shouldn't have let him finish--
"If it's Okud--if it's you, I don't mind falling in love with you Manami."
--because his words made her heart pound against her chest, cheeks started to burn and she feels them getting hotter in every second. And maybe, just maybe...
Manami feels like she doesn't mind falling in love with him either.
So how was a Gay!Karma Au? But maybe he was bi? I dunno tho. Tell me your thoughts about this onesie~('ヮ')I don't think I properly conveyed Karma's feelings for Nagisa...or did I?I hope you guys noticed the biggest hint in this one-shot.
