I'll post this earlier than planned as an early birthday present for myself, if anyone wants to do the same try guessing which Death Note character will make an appearance in no man is worth dying for next and why or how. I already have two characters in mind, but I'm curious about who you'd like to see.
Disclaimer : Death Note does not belong to me, neither do the movie 10 things I hate about you or the song A thousand years by Christina Perri! All rights belong to their respective owners ;)
Warning : mentions of sexual assault.

Amane Misa is certain about few things.
She's certain that the earth is round, she is certain that her nails are currently painted a lovely forest green color and that she's fairly pretty, she is certain that she loves Takuma and Yui Amane and that any psychiatrist would have a field day with the way her mind works.
She is also pretty sure the distant concept of canon has begun - people she shares class with were all thrilled at the prospect of such a controversial subject.
Even some of her teachers could not help comment on the rise of this supposed God, the legendary savior Kira.
"What a tacky site," Nami comments from her position on Misa's bed, arms crossed behind her head. "This Kira is all everyone's been talking about this week, what a name too...killer in English right? I wonder what our mysterious savior thinks about that name."
Another thing that she is certain about is this : Misa does not care about Kira, not even a little bit.
(three..six...seven...one)
"Ice cream?" the blonde offers, a container of cookie dough ice cream in between her crossed legs. Nami's eyes have dark eyebags underneath them, honey colored irises focusing on something that is not present. "Nami, sweetheart are you with me?" the brunette startles, head whipping to look at her best friend in a dazed sort of surprise.
Misa has other things to worry about other than Kira.
Like passing her end-of-term exams and finish knitting those sweaters for Christmas and... "Sorry, dizzy spell," Nami smiles sadly, lips quirking up hesitantly like she forgot how to.
Yes, she has much more important things to take care of.
"Don't be," she slowly nudges herself closer, brushing a strand of dark hair out of a pretty face. "Sorry that is, you don't have to be - never with me. Want to watch 10 things I hate about you?"
(you would think the numbers disappear once they hit zero, they don't)
(they just...stay up, floating there for a moment instead, like a memory or a corpse even as life has left it)
The smaller girl leaves for a while as to cook them something to eat - her parents out for a dinner date, she pretends not to hear a sob coming from the living room as she watches the still rigid pasta in the pot.
She gets back in time for the paintball scene and does not have to fake her excited squeal. "I put everything on the table, mom will have a fit if we eat on her new couch," her mom will nag for a few days and ultimately accept that food is a must while watching television.
(the numbers stay, until they don't)
"Do you think Kira will kill that man? They're calling him a God you know, striking down evil." Nami is finishing her plate, her best friend cleaning her own and the day's unwashed dishes. "All the murderers and child abusers, by heart attacks."
There's a bitter giggle, the sound of cutlery dragged on a porcelain plate. Misa stays quiet. "Criminals, human trash - "
She turns the tap off, sitting down on a cushioned chair and taking her best friend's hands in between her own. "Nami, humans will never know the depth of their own cruelty, of every little secret others hide and I swear to you, Kira is human and he cannot kill without an identity."
Nami's aggressor has no name and barely a shadow of a face. (yeah, sucks to see you again fate - or is it life maybe?)
The girl breaks down crying, clutching at her own hair and later at Misa's hips when the blonde gathers her friends in her arms. The words are drawled out softly as Misa rocks them slowly from side to side, time stands still,
beauty in all she is,
I will be brave,
There's angry red lines the shape of Nami's nails the next day, she ignores it and kisses her mother and father good morning before grabbing some pancakes off the table for herself and the girl in her room.
I will not let anything take away,
what's standing in front of me.
She misses her first two classes of the day and relishes in the jealous side glances, knowing she won't have any problem keeping up with the material while most of her classmates are already struggling with it.
(the vicious win, they win and still manage to stay hidden)
Lind L. Tailor dies on the 4th of December and Misa tries very hard to care. Even so, she does not.
"Cold," Gelus in all of his stitched up wonder says when she's taken ahold by laughter, the screen casting an almost eerie glow on her pretty, pretty face when they drag away the corpse on national television. Gelus corrects his stance then, "Not as much as them."
She snorts, twirling the cup of wine in her hands idlily. "You tell me, I'm not heartless, just a bit different than the typical university student. A live execution, now that's cold."
Using Kira to do so no less, her arms wrap around herself loosely when her shoulders continue to shake with mirth.
"Do you know? What causes those heart attacks?" It's hard not to, when she used to read a manga with it prettily written on the cover, death note. She likes Gelus, but she has no doubt the little guy could very well get rid of her with a swipe of his pen.
She finds comfort in the fact that he does not want to and holds enough respect for the Shinigami not to lie to his face, "I do, I'm not interested much in the tool itself to be honest."
Oh no, the one holding the pen is much more interesting, besides, murder leads to attention and attention equals to an unhappy Misa Misa.
Gelus tuts, stuffed feet kicking lightly the couch he is sitting on. "Figures, you'd do well not to cross Ryuk in the future. He'd kill you on principle alone, a girl so shrew and so full of potential that still stays so boring."
"Ambition leads the world's strongest men to their graves, boring is good in my books. Watching this whole thing occur is much more up my alley. L against Kira, ooh, so exciting." The small creature raises a brow when she offers him a wine glass of his own, muttering something about impossible girl.
"You're mocking them."
She shakes her head, "No... not really, their definition of victory just differs from mine, I'm not saying mine's better than theirs but I'm not the one ending in a casket full of empty ideals. The two of them...they're so similar, a Shakespeare tragedy in the making I tell you!"
Misa always hated tragedies - so depressing, she had more of a taste for comedy and thrillers actually.
"Men," Gelus' single word is accompanied by a derisive shake of his head and the pleased laugh that leaves her would light up any room. "Such prideful creatures."
"The childish ones are the worst," she confides like a schoolgirl talking about her crush would. "Don't you think?"
Roughly stitched up mouth stretches the white cutting to blue fabric and it bundles at the corners into something like dimples. It's fascinating, and ridiculously adorable.
"They are."
Life goes on, for her that is.
Criminals however have been dropping like flies in the past week and a half, one has to appreciate Yagami's brilliant mind for what it is. One convicted criminal for each hour of the day, which then leads to another debate on Kira's morality in philosophy class.
Something about whether or not this pretended God has more right to kill criminals who were already sentenced to death than some with lesser sentences.
Misa listens with one ear, eyes taking on an poisonous quality to them. "Some countries do not even have the death penalty! He is taking the justice system into his own hands and it is appalling - "
Despite Kira having widely been referred as a he ever since it's appearance, the pronoun still sends a pang of annoyance through her.
"They're loud aren't they?" The boy next to her gives her an hesitant smile, eyeing the four students doing a mock debate, even with class being over.
"More than that I'd say, they're piercing my eardrums." She gives that perfect smile, just a flash of teeth and crinkling eyes that makes her look both demure and cute. "Then again this is quite the subject they got their hands on, this whole Kira debacle..." bores me, is what she doesn't say.
He blushes.
Misa raises a brow, eyeing the dark haired boy with the round glasses. His name escapes her, even after almost nine months of sitting next to each other. Oops. "Yeah, if he continues like that we'll lose our jobs before we can even get our licences."
She blinks, "Kira only got to convicted criminals though," The boy nods then, closing his notebooks that had the most colorful notes she'd ever had the pleasure to get a glimpse of.
"Yeah uh...I was just thinking that at the pace he's going, he might go after those who weren't convicted." Those with enough money to get better lawyers than their opponents, to get out scot free despite their guilt.
Misa plays with a pretty clear blue pen then, twirling it between her fingers, "You think Kira's omniscient? Capable of knowing 100% of someone's guilt or innocence?"
(what strange terms, guilt and innocence)
"Well, maybe...no." her smile is all sharp teeth, similar to a shark's, "Then I'm afraid Kira may just kill an innocent man, if there wasn't enough proof to convict then it shouldn't be enough for Kira. Unless we have a psychopath with an over-inflated ego on our hands, wouldn't you say someone unable to discern right from wrong qualifies as a mass-murdered and not a savior?"
The boy stammers something out, something like but he - "Unless he's both, the path to hell is paved with good intentions and all that."
It's then that Misa notices how the few students left in the hall have all fallen silent, "He hasn't killed anyone innocent though?"
"Oh, I know." She giggles prettily and gathers her stuff, "It was all just hypothetical, maybe we shouldn't talk about it, now that I think about it. I mean, what do people who'll be defending felons and murderers alike have to say about good or right?"
Misa Amane is like an apple, alluring red tint and pale flesh. Sweet and juicy when you bite in it.
(the core is pure poison, unnoticed and deadly)
(so very deadly)
