It had been a few months since Emma and Regina had started having sex, and they'd had it very many times and in very many places since then. Their sexual relationship had started out with anger so great that Emma couldn't contain the urge to slam Regina into the wall and fuck her senseless. It hadn't really made any sense to Emma at the time, as she'd never hate-fucked anyone before. But Emma's feelings were beginning to change. Rather than the usual irritation that Emma generally associated with the sound of the mayor's heels clicking against the sheriff department's floor, she now perked up with intrigue and found it difficult to contain a smirk.
And it wasn't just hate-fucking anymore. Emma had begun to flirt unabashedly, and it was the greatest joy of her day to see Regina get taken aback by the things that Emma would say. It was especially fun when there were other people around and Regina couldn't react the way that Emma knew she wanted to.
Emma sat in her spinny chair at her desk as she pretended to absentmindedly skim some paperwork she was meant to sign. She listened to the footsteps get closer to the door as her mind raced with excitement at the possibilities of all of the things she could say to get under Regina's skin that day.
"Miss Swan," Regina stated as the door to Emma's office swung open. She strode into the office with an especially displeased scowl present upon her face. The usual venom that Emma was accustomed to laced Regina's voice. The more that Emma had gotten to know Regina over the past few months, the more that Emma began to believe that the poisonous looks and words were Regina's way of keeping control around a woman that made her nervous- That woman being Emma, of course.
"Madame Mayor," Emma greeted back, "What can I help you with this morning?"
Regina slapped a thick pile of papers on top of the ones that Emma had been reading. "I asked you to file these almost a week ago. So can you tell me why they were sitting on the table in the hall exactly where I left them four days ago?"
Emma grimaced, disappointed in the direction that their conversation was going in. "I forgot."
Regina flattened her brows and laid her palms against Emma's desk, leaning down to more effectively meet Emma's gaze. Her voice deepened. " I don't pay you to sit around and play phone games all day."
Regina's eyes glinted with a barely noticeable mischievousness that diminished the annoyance that Emma had felt about the paperwork.
Emma scoffed. "You don't pay me anything, the town does. And I'm sorry it got lost in the hurricane of papers I have to look over this week since that storm wrecked-"
"I don't care about your excuses, Swan. What are you gonna do to make it up to me?"
Oh, Emma thought, This isn't about the paperwork. This is about... Foreplay?
Emma was surprised at how lurid Regina was being. Generally, Regina allowed Emma to initiate most of their encounters. But today, Regina seemed to be in an especially brazen mood.
Emma's thoughts halted and her breath caught. For once, she really had no idea what to say. Regina smirked.
"Um, I'm- Uh," Emma managed to stammer out before the door to the sheriff's office burst open. Emma jumped back, accidentally knocking her lukewarm latte over and splashing coffee all over the papers that had been on her desk.
Regina's face burned red as she took her palms off of Emma's desk and turned around to face the intruder.
"God-fucking-damn-it," Emma muttered, scrambling to pick up papers that littered her desk.
"Emma!" Mary Margret said, "Pongo's escaped again, and Ashely can't find the keys to her car, she thinks baby Alex took them and dropped them somewhere..."
Regina nearly snarled in frustration and Emma sent her an evil smirk.
"Okay, I'm on it," Emma said, "I just need a minute."
Mary Margret's brows furrowed as she looked between the two of them as if they'd been caught. "Okay… Is everything okay?"
Emma smiled as innocently as she could. "Yeah. Busy morning."
She was hoping that her roommate would take the hint and leave.
Mary Margret matched Emma's smile and nodded. "Okay. I'll leave you to it."
Emma watched Mary Mary Margret leave and waited for the door to shut behind her before she looked back to Regina, who was glaring daggers at her.
"Just come over later. After you clean up."
Emma heaved a colossal sigh as Regina followed Mary Margret out of the building. "I'm a fucking idiot," she muttered to herself she put her head into her hands." She let herself sit in embarrassment and regret for a few minutes as she prepared to go back out and face the trivial problems of Storybrooke.
"Nothing interesting ever happens in this god-forsaken town."
