Chapter 49
"Today we will be discussing about Aldari Yuma, she was the first Siren to enact the Law of Separation. Which should be done for Siren outside of Terra Hewina."
Searcher Red wrote at the blackboard; Maya keen writing her notes with a pen at her hand.
"There's a bit of a conflict of what to say about the Siren from the outside. But we can learn something about the definition of a Siren and the changes that happened to the years." Searcher Red turned back and looked at Maya. "The Siren Society had conquered a system. That system called?"
"The Sirenos Segmentum." Maya pointed her pen to Red. "The system had four planets and Terra Hewina was the second planet of the system."
"Correct." He nodded and took a book from his desk. "This book is a summary about Sirenos Segmentum. Read it and after lunch, we will do a quick quiz then we move to Nyriad."
Lunch has arrived, the same thing happened like before at the courtyard, this time Searcher Kharkov was nowhere to be seen. The Blue Siren set the table and glanced at the entrance, waiting for Searcher Kharkov to enter the place with his wide smile. She put down the three plates and three glasses of water. She wondered where he was.
"Where's Kharkov?" Maya asked.
"I think he went hunting last night, body might be sore." Searcher Red at the pot, tasting the food before it was served. "Or maybe overslept."
"Really huh?" She had a feeling.
Searcher Kharkov was good company for Maya. One without the other, Kharkov without Red made her lunch less satisfying. She trained harder than ever before and spent less time resting. Having the two together was her chance to decompress before pushing further into training.
"Hey Red, can I call Searcher Kharkov?" Maya looked at the Searcher.
"Go ahead." He tasted his food again. "Tch tch, need more salt."
"Be right back." Maya walked to the exit. "I'll go to The Waterfalls. "
Maya walked to the same path that she often went. It was not long as she was familiar with the direction she often went. She passed the empty stone buildings and the waterfalls. But when she arrived at the small pathway that would lead to Kharkov's shack, she sensed Host Akari's energy.
"They're together?" She said to herself. "Guess I could invite Host Akari together for lunch."
But before she put another step forward, Maya changed her plan. Or maybe I could just hear what they talking about…
Maya took a deep breath and suppressed her Nonua, thus she could not be sensed by Host Akari. At the cost of not being able to use her Siren powers.
As long as I don't get caught, I won't be doing anything wrong. Maya took the first step.
She slowed her walking pace to make sure her footsteps were silent. Rather than walking to the usual pathway, she walked at the edges of the path so there was not trace that she walked there. She watched closely at the front making sure that if someone was close, she would flee away immediately. She saw the shack and stopped, two voices muffled by the closed door. By the way of it, it seemed to be a serious discussion.
On the west side of the shack had a window, it was opened halfway and presented an opportunity to hear it more clearly.
Maya went all around the shack quietly. Pass the back and slowly she creeped to the side of the window. Because of the wooden floor, she delicately placed her foot one step a time. She was at the side of the window, she peeked inside to see. Searcher Kharkov leaned on his desk while Host Akari sat across the room facing him. Maya saw the back of Kharkov's head while Host Akari's expression was clear as day. She was not in a good mood.
"It was unfortunate to see her like that." Kharkov gravely said. "Alesia, controversial as she was, deserves our help."
"I'm very clear on our stance about her." Akari leaned forward, hands together and elbows on her thigh, The lady-like manner was gone. "I have spoken many times about it and will repeat."
"Alesia is a Siren."
"And she is dead."
"You fear a dead woman?" Kharkov raised his brow. "Look, this fear of her should be stopped entirely. If we can talk about Nyriad, then we can talk about Alesia. Maya needs to know."
"No, Maya should not. I want Alesia to be forgotten."
"Mistakes should be learned, if Maya is to be a Prophetess, she must learn the mistake so it won't be repeated. If you want to call Alesia a mistake."
Akari sat up and said nothing. The only thing that could be heard was the air entering the shack.
"Searcher Kharkov." Akari finally spoke. "Are you the Siren here?"
"Well… no." Kharkov shook his head.
"I appreciate with all the things that you helped but had not been for your late wife, you would not be the person that you are. And I need to say that you are only a Searcher. Not a Siren."
Kharkov raised his chin but shut his mouth.
"I understand that you and Red are special but The Siren Cause could not be understood easily unless you're a Siren." Akari got up. "Alesia is a part of The Siren Cause but the bad part of it. I want to protect Maya at all costs. I know more things that you don't. Especially about Alesia and I made the decision to erase her forever."
Kharkov folded his arms and listened. "Perhaps Red was right on some things, we can't discuss. Remember Host, we Searchers are loyal to The Siren Cause, you are not the whole thing. Alesia is a part of it and we Searchers have a say on things."
Akari nodded. "And I listened."
"But you don't care sometimes. As of now, I will agree to your request. Alesia will be forgotten but we Searchers will not."
"You will never utter her name ever again. Do you understand? I said to Red and I will say it to you."
"I understand." Kharkov took a deep breath and released the tension built.
"I may be aggressive…" The lady like Akari finally returned. "but there's something that Maya should not know. Because-"
Akari stopped and looked at the window. Eyes widened as she saw something. The Host immediately went out from the shack.
"Host?" Kharkov called.
The Host went to the side of the shack to find…
Nothing.
Akari looked at her surroundings, the bushes and the trees. But the thing she expected was not there. Kharkov peered out from the window to see what was going on. There was nothing significant, Akari was alone with a puzzled look to her face.
"Is there something bothering you?" Kharkov asked.
"I saw something…" Akari looked down, trying to find something.
"Well, there's nothing in Tretho that could kill you." Kharkov smiled as he saw a beautiful bird that had blue feathers. "Well, hello there friend."
Akari joined together watching the bird and said nothing after that.
Kharkov arrived at The Courtyard: came later than usual. He saw Red eating alone.
"Rough night huh? Where's Blue?" Red chewed his food.
"Maya?" Kharkov stopped walking and stood halfway. "What do you mean?"
"I thought Blue's with you?"
"Sorry guys, what did I miss?" Maya arrived at the Courtyard.
Kharkov turned to his back and looked at Maya. "Where did you go?"
"I went to my room." Maya scratched her head. "I wanted to call you for lunch but then… some woman thing happen…"
"Oh." Kharkov looked at Red then looked back at Maya. "I'm sorry to bother you, I forgot about that part."
"No no, it's alright Kharkov. It's nothing big." Maya walked past Kharkov. "Come on, let's eat."
"Yeah sure." Kharkov joined with Maya and ate with Red. "Usually we don't have to deal with that type of thing."
"Oh you guys also deal with that too?" Maya sat down and asked.
"Well yeah." Red swallowed his food. "Sirens are women. Though usually we prefered Akari to deal with that type of thing."
