Re-cap:
Kyo and a group of chosen Zodiac's are on their way to pick Lucy up from the guild after getting permission from Akito. Akito himself is distraught after finding out that Lucy does not transform, though he still believed she held the curse. Kyo and the others also think that she has the curse, and worry for her on their way to pick her up.
Lucy is still oblivious, but has been shown to feel her brother through the bond. Her and the Fairies have officially named the group, The Forgotten Fairies, and broken into two separate groups, and Lucy has been approved for her time off.
The Forgotten - Go Big and Go Home (Chapter Five)
"What are you doing?" Wendy asked Juvia as the two girls came back from their mission to see Juvia looking into the guildhall like she used to when spying on Gray. The water mage's face turned a dark red as she turned to face Wendy and Lucy, who quickly joined her side and peered in to see what was going on. The Guildhall was completely silent.
"Juvia is watching the strangers." She answered. "They came early saying that they wanted to speak with you, Lucy."
But when the two looked back to Lucy, the mage was grinning proudly. "Don't worry Juvia, I think I know who they are."
"Juvia is only concerned for Lucy's safety." Juvia commented, but moved aside for Lucy to move through the door. Sure enough, there was a group of very familiar people sitting in the middle of the guildhall, talking quietly amongst themselves while the rest of the guild watched and talked about them around the guild hall. One was drinking from a bottle of water when she entered, not that it mattered much to Lucy.
She still ran over to tackle him in a hug.
Kyo choked and coughed, water splashing all over them both as they went down, but once he'd finally regained his composure a bit, he made sure to wrap his sister in a hug equally as tight, burying his head in her hair. He was a cat, after all, and her hair was soft. Cats did tend to like soft things.
That or he had missed the girl, and there was no way in heck he was going to admit that to anyone but her. Even then, it was only because she could feel it. She was crying, if the warm spot on his shirt that seemed to still be collecting water was anything to go by. The guild had stopped talking, and Kyo thought that this might be a good time to only talk to Lucy in his head.
'Now what are you crying for? I told you we were coming.' He commented, amusement in his voice despite the softness of it.
'Yeah, but there's a big difference from saying you're coming and being here. I missed you.' Lucy countered. Kyo smiled into her hair, biting back a laugh that would sound incredibly misplaced while she was crying in front of him. He brought one hand up to rub her back, whispering in her ear.
"Maybe, but I'm here now, aren't I?" Lucy nodded into his shirt. He hadn't realized quite how silent her tears had been, but by the time she looked up they were gone.
"Yeah." She said, her smile back. "And we're going home."
Momiji jumped from his seat the moment he could see her face.
"Let me hug Lucy too!" He yelled in his German accent, jumping on the girl as she stood again. Lucy caught him and spun the rabbit of the Zodiac around, laughing as she did.
"You're so much bigger than last time I saw you!" She commented, letting him down on his feet as she stared at him.
"Lucy is bigger too, yes?" Momiji commented, looking up with his big doe eyes.
"Well, yeah." Lucy answered. "I guess I am. It's been a while."
"Lucy…" Another person called, and Lucy's eyes met Haru's, and the ox was silent for a moment. That is, he was until he placed his hand on her head the same way he used to, rubbing back and forth like she'd done to Shigure and her brother during her first visit. "We missed you."
"I missed you guys too." She agreed. Kagura tackled her in a hug, Kisa joining in not a moment later. Hiro had moved closer, so she took the liberty of patting him on the head as a show of affection as well.
Hatsu-Haru spoke again, still rubbing her head, but this time he spoke on behalf of Shigure, Ayame, and Hatori. "Shigure said he's excited to see you again, princess. Ayame says that he made you a lot of cute outfits to try on. Hatori's mad at you for not getting a check-up as soon as we get back."
"We haven't even left here yet!" Lucy nearly yelled. Kisa and Kagura let go of her, but it was Kyo who spoke next, holding his hand out to pull her up.
"Yeah, but you won't go see him when we get there." The cat commented, a grin still holding on his face. "Besides, we've got to teach that damn rat a lesson."
"Oh dear, sounds like I'll be busy this month." Lucy commented, but she was smiling, and they knew it was all in good fun. The others laughed, but Kyo's head tipped to the side, eyes searching for his sister's sincerity as he used their bond once more.
'Month?'
'Well, go big or go home, right?'
'Right. And if you can do both...'
'Well I'm not complaining.'
Lucy's hands found the inside of her sweatshirt, one of her brother's old ones that she'd 'borrowed' years ago and never sent him back.
"So you'll be staying with the family for the whole month?!" Kagura asked, excitement lacing her voice and eyes shining with joy. Lucy let out a small chuckle and nodded her head.
"Yeah." She answered.
The Forgotten Fairies watched on as Lucy and her family started chatting away about the details of her trip home, deciding that they would be staying there for the night before heading off to the estate. They'd joined the group around noon, and Lucy had proudly introduced them to the family that had come.
Kyo, Hatsu-Haru, Momiji, Kagura, Kisa, and Hiro were all so different, but Lucy had assured them all that they were family, but there were many generations between them. The Sohma family made a point to keep in close contact with everyone in the family so long as they weren't disowned. Kyo was her only immediate family, her twin brother being the only portion of it left. They all assumed she excluded Jude because of the disorder he'd caused in her life.
It was good to see Lucy so happy again, especially after everything they'd all been through the past few weeks. Lisanna had been back for a month and the guild were still celebrating as if they were in the honeymoon phase. Happy was glad to include them in his daily life though, and had started breaking into Lucy's apartment again.
The rest of team Natsu hadn't reached out to the girl since they kicked her off of the team, and while Lucy had stayed strong, the others knew it affected the girl. Her family distraction had come at just the right time. Despite how much she tried to act like it didn't bother her, they knew she was missing the spontaneous nature of being a part of that team, and the way they had always treated her like family.
Until Lisanna. Even she had the sense to not leave the group out like the others did. Lisanna had been the only one to make an effort to talk to the Forgotten Fairy's since returning to the guild, and it was hard to not be offended by how little the others seemed to care.
Even Master Makorov seemed to be disgusted with the rest of the guild, but he'd promised them not to say anything. If the others were going to suddenly remember them, it needed to be by themselves and because they wanted to.
That being said, this was ridiculous. They were all taking a vacation soon.
All of them.
Akito hadn't stopped pacing around the room for over an hour, and it was starting to make shigure dizzy to watch the head of the family do so. The dog zodiac simply watched, waiting for Akito to say something, because there was no way that he'd been summoned for no reason.
Finally the boy, or should we say girl, sat down across from him.
"She's done it, somehow." Akito said, his voice little more than a hiss.
"Who?" Shigure asked, knowing not to poke at the subject of what they had done. If anything, Akito would tell him soon enough anyways.
"Lucy." He spat, and it didn't take a genius to figure out what he was referring to anymore. So little Lucy had truly found a way around her curse? How remarkable. How interesting.
His mind wandered deftly back to something the young girl had told him when she first heard about the curse. Perhaps the girl had been correct, and a lot smarter than he had given the small girl credit for.
"Maybe it's not hugging people? What if it's phyciological.. Phychio…"
"Phycological?" Shigure questioned. It was certainly an interesting take on the curse. He hadn't heard it before.
"Yeah." Lucy said, looking up at him with those big, brown, doe-like eyes. "Maybe it's because people get really nervous when people of the other gender hug them, and you guys get even more nervous because it's already caused you to turn before. And then… It doesn't happen when you hug people with the curse because you already know they understand it. It happens to them too."
Shigure hadn't known what to say then. He didn't think she was right, on the contrary in fact. How was he supposed to tell this innocent little girl that she was so very wrong? Lucy didn't seem to understand this internal battle he was having though. She shrugged it off, looking back at the cup of tea he had given her.
"Just a thought. Mommy used to say that people's minds were very complicated, and they could make you think things that weren't real." Lucy seemed nervous after that, but Shigure smiled and patted her head gently. There was no use telling her that she was wrong now, she was just a child after all, what harm could there possibly be in giving her a bit of hope?
"It's definitely a thought." He had commented instead, a smile gracing his features. Lucy had seemed so happy after that, all smiles.
He knew that she'd done things she shouldn't be able to do since she'd been kicked from the family, but there was no doubt about it anymore. Lucy had found a way to stop the curse from affecting her like the rest of them, and all he had to go on was what she'd told him all those years ago.
HarLu (Hatsu-Haru) - 4
NaLu (Natsu) - 1
ZerLu (Zeref) -1
Momiji is out of the running until further notice. I am once again sorry about the wait, but this fic is actually a lot more complicated this time around than I thought. Anyways, the standings are above. NaLu and ZerLu are looking close to their end if more people don't vote, but MoLu has officially met its doom. Thank you all for reading, I have no idea when I'll be updating again. This chapter alone took about six different writing sessions to get the thoughts out of my head and in the document.
