Jay had come back still a bit angry, when Jordan had seen him normally she had stayed back when they were angry but had gone to hug him anyway. The detective looked down and saw the preteen had been hugging him. Slowly he wrapped his arms around her. The hug of a child was enough to calm him for the moment.
"Hey, what'd your counselor say?" Alvin asked Adam.
"Oh, that I'm coping well with the trauma, but I'm thinking she was talking about working with you"
"You're staying back"
"Wait, why?"
"Because Antonio called shotgun before you did and your counselor didn't clear you".
"You gotta be ... Al, how long is this gonna go on for? I'm fine".
"Christmas".
"What?"
"Christmas is the takedown word"
After that had been said Hank had gone to his office to start getting ready and to prepare himself mentally for this.
Erin had gone to Hank's office to talk. She didn't want Jordan to hear any of it. "Hey. Reservation's all set at Carmine for when he's out. They gave us the back room, so who do you want me to invite?"
"Oh, let's keep it small, just the four of us".
"Yeah?"
"I don't think he should be around his old friends just yet. I don't want a repeat of last year"
Erin remembered all too well what happened the year before, she had actually agreed on it. "Okay. Hey when did you wanna tell Jo that Justin's getting released?"
"I wanna make it a surprise for her. I think this'll make up for her birthday"
When Erin found out her sister didn't wanna celebrate her birthday, her heart just about shattered. On one hand she didn't blame her, from her last birthday her brother getting ripped away from her and sent to prison, that'll kill any mood. On the other hand it was heartbreaking and sad. She wished she could have done anything to help her sister.
"I'm sure it will and she'll love having him back"
Hank nodded and picked up a picture on his desk, when he saw both his kids happy, smiling, he was complete with them. Having one with him and the other in jail he didn't feel whole or complete. Part of him felt empty. But soon he'd have both his children back.
The older Sergeant left the room to see Adam, with Trudy busy with her work and Adam couldn't be in the field. He wondered if the new officer would be able to handle watching Jordan for him. He saw how well Jordan was getting along with Adam.
"Ruzek you got a sec". Hank called for the officer.
"Yes sir" Adam replies, going to the office.
Hank closes the door and turns to his new officer. "Are you good with kids?"
"I'm sorry but I'm lost".
"I don't wanna leave Jordan by herself, I was hoping you wouldn't mind watching her. If you don't want to, I don't mind asking Trudy".
"I'll watch her".
"Alright. I just want you to know what I'm about to say I'm not saying it as a cop or your boss but as a father. If anything happens to Jordan while she's with you I will hurt you".
"I completely understand".
"Good".
Hank went out and called his daughter. "Jo come here sweetheart".
"Coming". Jordan replies.
The young girl went to her father's office and saw Adam with her father.
"Yes dad".
"Jo, Adam is gonna watch you while we're in the field".
"You'll be careful won't you?"
"Aren't we always".
"You know what I mean".
"Also you are to not leave the District for any reason".
"But dad".
"No buts Jordan, you're still grounded. That means home, school, and here that's it".
"Fine".
"Be good and behave for him".
"I will".
Hank hugged his daughter and kissed her head, she then kissed his cheek. Alvin saw and heard that his new partner would be watching his goddaughter so he headed over to his friend's office. Jordan waved to her godfather and he smiled then kissed her head and she headed to the lounge.
"Hank, you mind if I borrow Ruzek for a quick sec". Alvin says to his friend.
"Sure". Hank said.
Adam followed his partner back to Alvin's desk.
"What's up Al". Adam said.
"I want you to listen and listen closely. Jordan is my goddaughter". Alvin started.
"I didn't know that".
"Now you do. I'm only gonna tell you this once, when you're watching her nothing else matters but her. You have your eyes on her and only her. If anything happens to her Hank will be the least of your worries".
"I got it".
"Good".
The team left out leaving Adam alone with Jordan, he didn't know anything about kids so he didn't really know what to do. The twelve year old left the lounge going to his desk.
"Don't let them scare you". Jordan tells them.
"Whatcha talkin bout?" Adam asked, confused.
"I heard my dad and Uncle Alvin talk to you, don't let them scare you. They mean well they're overprotective".
"I can tell. If you don't mind me asking where's your mom?"
Jordan felt sadness and pain shoot through her heart, a lump formed in her throat. She's always had a hard time talking about her mother. Adam saw the look and got worried.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you".
"It's ok you didn't know, my mom died when I was a baby. So that's why my dad is the way he is with me, so is my brother and Erin".
"I'm sorry".
"It's ok you didn't know".
"So what happened that you got grounded?"
"This kid at school said something about my dad and brother so I punched. We both got detention and well my dad grounded me".
"Whatever he said is not true, don't listen to them, they just wanna bring you down".
"I know it's just my dad and brother who always protects and defends me. It was my turn to defend them".
"I feel ya kiddo. So what do you wanna do?"
"I have some ideas".
Almost ten minutes later the squad was trashed as the two were playing with a football. Papers were on the floor, chairs were everywhere, the two were laughing and playing the whole time.
Jordan felt as if she had another older brother, she had her brother now she considered her brothers, Jay, Adam, and she was getting to know one of the patrol officers Kevin Atwater. They may not be blood related but they are now family.
Adam had fun watching the young girl, she was like the little sister he never had. The two continued to goof off and trash the squad. An hour later the small squad room was trashed and the two had been chuckling the entire time. The new officer had actually been having fun, he had never been around kids before but babysitting was fun.
Jordan had moved some hair from her face as she held a styrofoam football in her hands. She sat down in Alvin's seat near Adam. The preteen would admit it, Adam was a good fit for the unit. He brought something unique and special to the team, he had completed the team now.
"You came from the academy?" Jordan asked.
"Yup, Alvin said he saw something in me and I really wanna prove myself"
"One thing about Uncle Alvin, his gut instincts are never wrong. And in this case he was definitely right with you. You're a great addition to the team"
The young officer smiled. "I appreciate that Jo"
"Wanna play some more football?"
"You're on kid. I never pegged you for the football type"
"I love football"
She tossed the ball to him and the two kept playing, trashing the unit more. Trudy had come up seeing the mess and her goddaughter pop out from under one of the desks.
"Hi Aunt Trudy," Jordan spoke, with a smile.
"Hey kiddo, whatcha guys doing?" The older woman asked.
"Playing football with Adam"
"I can tell, your dad called he said he has a couple errands to run so when Erin comes back she's gonna pick you up and take you somewhere"
"Really? Did he say where?"
"He said it was the surprise he mentioned"
"Do you know what it is Aunt Trudy?"
"My lips are sealed, besides it won't be much of a surprise if I told you will it?"
She pouted slightly. "No, I guess not"
"Why don't you guys clean up and I bet by the time you finish, Erin will be here to pick you up"
Without a second thought the preteen and Adam began cleaning the squad room, organizing the papers and fixing all the desks. By the time they had finished Intelligence had returned from their bust, Erin had been extremely pissed because Hank said he had something else to do. What else could have been more important than seeing your only son getting out of jail? Once she had finished getting out of her vest and she calmed down she had gone up to see her sister. When she got to the doorway of the squad and saw Jordan laughing and joking with Adam, she smiled. It had been nice to see Jordan happy and smiling for a change. It had been a big improvement since Jules had died.
"Looks nice guys, good job" Erin commented from the door.
The preteen turned and smiled running to her hugging her around the waist. "Are you guys alright?"
"We're just fine sweetheart. Are you ready to go?"
"Totally"
"Grab your coat, it's getting cold"
Without a second thought she had gone and grabbed her coat and her backpack, once she had grabbed it she went and hugged Adam before going to her sister.
"It was nice hanging out with you today Adam, I look forward to it again in the future" Jordan told him with a smile.
The young officer smiled. "Back at ya kiddo"
As she hugged him she dropped a paper ball down the back of his shirt making him jump and both her and Erin laugh. It was the start of yet another friendship and the first of many pranks with Jordan and Adam. Erin had taken her hand and the two girls left.
Jordan had left with Erin, she and her father said they had a surprise for her but wouldn't say what. They were outside a prison they said they were picking someone up. Her first thought was her brother. She hadn't seen him in nearly a year. She missed him badly. She then thought maybe it was someone else her father may have known.
"Come on Erin, please tell me," Jordan begged.
"Just wait, it'll be worth it," Erin told her with a smile.
Just then someone was coming out of the gates, it was Justin Voight, Hank's oldest son. Erin looked at the smile on the preteen's face as it grew.
"Justin! Justie!" She jumped excitedly.
She ran over to her brother as fast as she could. Erin had a smile on her face seeing the young girl run to her brother. Just a little over a year ago She was a crying mess on her 11th birthday when Justin had gone to jail. They gave him time to be with his sister on her birthday. After that the Voight family fell apart, now it's back together.
"Freedom! Whoo. Gentlemen, it's been nice. Oh!" Justin cheered.
"Justin! Justie!"
Seeing his baby sister Justin had the biggest smile on his face. He bent down just as she crashed into him and he swept her up holding her close.
"It's my little Jo Jo" He held her close and protectively. One hand rested on her back and the other on the back of her head.
Jordan wrapped her arms firmly around his neck holding on tightly. "I missed you Justie"
"I missed you too kiddo. I missed so much"
The preteen pulled away. "Promise me you won't go away again. I don't want you to go back to jail. Or anywhere else"
"I promise squirt. I ain't going anywhere, anytime soon"
She smiled and hugged him again. "I missed you so much Justie"
"I missed you more"
Justin then saw Erin coming over, he set his sister down keeping her close to his side. Erin smiled, hugging him.
"It's good to see you, Justin. Aw, hi". She says with a smile, hugging him.
"Damn, you are lookin 'good"
"Get outta here. A goat would look good to you right now"
"Yeah, maybe. So where's our old man?"
"He had to take care of something"
"Why am I not surprised by that?"
"Come on, he's working"
"Yeah, he's always working. Whatever, I don't care. I just wanted to see you and this little munchkin anyways" He tickled his sister and she giggled.
"All right. Let's go get you a hot meal"
"I call sitting with Justin" Jordan hopped onto her brother's back.
The two adults chuckled and Justin had a good grip on his sister. Once they were in the car, Justin sat in the back with his sister. Jordan leaned into his side and fiddled with his shirt, a habit she did when she was nervous. The elder Voight saw his sister.
"What's wrong munchkin"
"Justin, can you and dad try not to fight anymore? I hate it when you guys fight"
Erin kept quiet as she drove, she occasionally glanced. She saw the look on his face. The female detective knew deep down Hank and Justin may have a rocky relationship for the time being. But When she heard those words come from the pre teen she knew Justin would do just about anything for his sister. He'd move heaven, hell, earth and everything in between for her. He'd walk through the flames of hell for her.
Justin saw the look on his sister's face, her eyes were wide, a small pout on her face. He didn't have the heart to even begin to explain why he and their father had problems the year before. If she found out it would kill her. There was something about his sister that changed him. When she was born he was still in a deep dark place and the moment she was placed in his arms something opened up inside him. His baby sister had helped him find the light that broke through the darkness. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for her.
"Please Justie. You guys fought all the time before you went to jail. I don't want you to do that again. I want us to be a family again. A real family. Me, you, Erin, daddy. Please no more fighting. For me?"
"Alright for my little Jo Jo, I won't fight with dad anymore. I'll make up with him. And hey, we'll always be a family. Always. No matter what"
"You promise?"
He kissed her head. "I promise munchkin"

"When are we taking Maurice down? Let me rephrase that. We need to take Maurice down" Gradishar told Hank
"I will. Two weeks max." Hank assured her.
"Two weeks from today?"
"Two weeks from today"
"Nice try. Where's the money? Maurice gives you 5,000 a week. Where is it?"
"He didn't have it"
"That's funny 'cause my intel said he's stacked"
"Maybe you should meet your intel here and not me"
"Hank. If I find you're lying to me, I will bury you. I will make sure you never see your little girl again.
He stalked over to her. "You go anywhere near my daughter. I'll bury you. Leave her out of this" With that said he walked away before he lost his cool.
Hank had left to go help D'Anthony leave the city with his aunt. He stood with the teen boy making conversation while they had talked. A woman had gone to them and Hank had given her an envelope full of money.
After Hank watched D'Anthony go with his aunt, he went home thinking about his kids. Justin was most likely pissed that he wasn't there to see him get out. He wanted to try and have a better relationship with his son.
When he got home he quietly went in not knowing if his kids were asleep. Justin was on the couch, his little sister asleep laying across his lap. He was stroking her hair back gently. He heard the door and looked to see his father.
"Hey Pop" Justin said softly, not wanting to wake his sister.
"Hey, I thought you'd be asleep by now" Hank replied just as quietly.
"I wanted to wait up for you"
"Everything alright son? Is Jo alright?" He bent down to see his daughter asleep.
"Jo Jo is fine. I- I actually wanted to talk to you"
"What is it?"
"Jo Jo asked me to not fight with you anymore. I really don't wanna fight with you anymore Pop"
"I don't wanna fight with you either son, it's not gonna do anything except cause a toxic environment for Jo and neither of us want that"
"Can we start fresh?"
"Of course we can son"
Justin leaned up and hugged his father and Hank held his son. Jordan stirred feeling movement. The pre teen slightly sat up, the two men smiled seeing her.
"Hey sweet girl," Hank says softly.
"Daddy? What time is it?" She mumbled
"It's late sweetheart why don't you go change for bed, we'll be right up"
"I wanna stay with Justie"
Justin chuckled. "Just for the night, go on up and I'll be right there"
The young girl had run up the steps to the room while the father and son stayed, if it was one thing Justin had done. He always kept his word to his baby sister. When she was born it had brought him and his father together. She had been the glue to keep them together.
"I mean what I said Pop, I wanna do better. Be better" Justin told his father.
"You have to want to do this for you Justin"
"I do. I learned my lesson. I wanna be around more for Jo Jo"
"That's very admiral Justin"
"I also meant what I said no more fighting"
"I'm sure we can make that happen"
Justin hugged his father. "I love you dad"
The older man hugged him. "I love you too kid"
Justin had gone to his room and he stopped outside his door, seeing his baby sister curled up in the middle of his bed warmed his heart. The elder man couldn't believe how much his little sister had grown in just a year, she was a lot braver, bolder, and stronger than he gave her credit for.
He had always wanted to do better by her, when a stupid sibling riveraly got in the way he was blinded and hadn't realized how much he hurt his sister and now he had a chance to make up for it and be there for her. Nothing would break the sibling's bond this time, not even the sibling's bond would be stronger than ever. The family bond would be as strong as ever before.
