"Kagome," Sesshou nudged the sleeping girl. He had been warned that she wasn't a morning person and been tasked with rousing her for the morning. However, she wasn't waking. "It's morning."

"Ngh." Was her only response.

"Get up," He said with more force and volume. "Or I will make you." Again, an empty threat. The most he could willingly bring himself to do is annoy her.

She rolled away from him.

"Kagome," Sesshou sat himself at the edge of the bed, and leaned over her form to balance his weight on one hand, trapping her curved body. He peered over her shoulder to see if she was being resistant by force or simply as a force of habit. "It's time to get up." No response from her. He could only assume she was truly still asleep. How she managed to be this deep of a sleeper was beyond him, especially having experienced the dangers of the past. There was no change in her heart rhythm either.

Sesshou wanted to allow her more time, but he could feel the nervous aura of the fox kit in the other room. A flashing memory of her tears from the night before stilled his tongue.

Poor girl, he thought.

Still propped over her with one arm, he took the moment to view her closely. She was oddly beautiful. She always was, but he never had interest. Not even now, he knew. She was human. Not that her humanity really posed any real issues. The issue, he admitted, was the vulnerability in loving a human again. Rin was his everything, and he had to watch her grow and die. In his own vain attempt to hold onto her, he had offered to give her an arranged mating. There were several lords who knew gaining Rin's favor was, at one time, the only way to gain his favor as well. He had even asked Shippou, he remembered. The kit was only on his third tail, but he was in no rush to hand her off just yet anyways. Another ten years, he told himself, then they could mate when she was twenty five.

Shippou had laughed in his face. It was the only time in which Sesshou could remember the kit referring to himself as progeny of his own, with one simple declaration of, "She's my sister, Lord Sesshomaru!" They thought him stupid to not know how they thought of him. Of course he knew. Of course he had grown fond of them both, raised them both, and watched them both go off into the world. One to live a short life, and the other to face many tragedies, and still stand beside him.

Shippou needed his mother now.

"Kagome, it's time-" Sesshou began, taking his free hand to gently shake her shoulder.

"Kyaaaa!" Kagome shouted, hitting and kicking against him. Sesshou backed away, standing as far from the bed as possible.

"Woman!" Sesshou screamed at her, interrupting her own screams.

"Oh," Kagome opened her eyes fully. Taking a deep breath with a hand over her heart, she said, "It's just you, Sesshou."

"Refrain from assaulting this one next time you awaken, you foolish woman!" Sesshou ground his teeth, and turned to exit, slamming the door behind him.

"So...she's awake now?" Shippou sheepishly asked from around the corner. He only gave the kit a cold stare before stalking off to the kitchen. "I'm gonna take that as a yes."
