Chapter One Hundred and Eleven - Children and Birthdays and Children's Birthdays

"So you weren't…" Makarov trailed off.

"Lying?" I asked him, an eyebrow raised. "No."

Mavis and Zeref were currently showing off their new children to the rest of the guild, and in particular, the other babies.

It wasn't too hard to tell the two apart; August had neat, combed-back hair (like Zeref), and Larcade just had a bunch of spikes (like Natsu).

Speaking of Natsu, Zeref still hasn't talked to him.

But Natsu likes kids.

And Zeref now has kids.

So he wouldn't be able to stay out of this one.

I left the group of children and babysitters and approached Irene, who was standing next to the bar. Enno had given her a change of clothes that was much more modest than the one before, and she seemed a lot more comfortable now.

And she was staring at Erza.

"Are you going to talk to her sometime today?" I asked her.

"Do I have to?" she asked me.

I shrugged. "Probably. I personally think you should get it over with."

Irene nodded. "I will. Soon."

And speaking of getting things over with…it was time to stop being a hypocrite. I had my own child I needed to talk to.

I went up to Mari, who was sitting on the edge of the group piled around the children and their new play area Freed and Levy designed.

"Can I spend some time with Amber?" I asked Mari.

She nodded and smiled, reaching down and pulling Amber out of the pile. Violet, who was closest to Amber, made an odd grumbling sound as her friend was pulled out of her reach.

"I'll give her back soon," I told Violet as Mari handed Amber to me. "I just want to spend some time alone with her."

I propped Amber on my hip and carried her back to the storage room for some privacy, where I settled down on a crate and sat her on my lap.

She looked up at me and smiled.

I swallowed the lump in my throat.

"Hey, Amber," I said quietly. "Do you recognize me?"

She looked me in the eyes, and nodded.

"I missed you," I told her, my eyes breaking out into tears. "God, I missed you so much. I wasn't able to properly remember you for awhile. But God, did I miss you."

I'm glad she remembered me. I thought she would, but I didn't know how much she would remember; God had blocked out my traumatizing memories, so there was a chance Amber wouldn't have known who I was.

She moved up my legs and leant her head on my chest. I ran my fingers through her hair, like I used to.

"You're going to like it here so much," I whispered to her. "I promise."

Erza and Irene were finally talking when I returned Amber to her mother. Irene had apologized for the Other-her's actions, and Erza had suggested they start over, though not with Irene as a mother figure, because she wasn't ready for that. Irene agreed that she wasn't ready for that either, and then they both started bonding over sword fighting techniques, so…? Who the hell knows.

Zeref was still (somewhat) successfully staying away from Natsu, while Mavis continually invited Natsu to come join them and their kids. Apparently I wasn't the only one frustrated with their stupidity (not that Natsu knew anything was happening anyway).

Yep. Just kidnapping children and reacquainting them with the rest of the family. All in a days work.

"Are you nervous?" Lucy asked.

I glared at her, and she giggled.

"What?" I asked.

"You're just upset because you don't like this song as much," Lucy said.

"It's not that I don't like the song, it's that I'm not sure it fits perfectly. Especially now that I've become a bigger part of the guild."

"He'll still get it," Lucy said, hopping down and hugging me. "I know you'll do fine, Ellie-nee. Good luck."

I smiled back at her and hugged her. "Alright. Thanks, sweetie. Go sit down."

She disappeared and I took a deep breath, getting ready for them to start up the music.

"I'm ready," I told them.

Freed nodded, happy to do this. Erigor smiled behind him.

This was music I wouldn't be able to do myself, so Freed and Erigor were here for music and sound effects.

The curtains opened, the light was on me, and the music began to play.

I let it fill me, before taking a deep breath and letting it out.

"I…don't want to die, or fade awaaaaaaaaay…" I started. "I just wanna be someone. I just wanna be someone."

"Diiive and dis-appear without a traaaaaaaaaaaaace. I just wanna be someone. Well doesn't…everyone…?"

"And if you feeeel…the great di-viding…

I wanna bee…the one you're gui-ding…

'Cause I believe….that you could le-ad the waaaaaay."

My hands were clenching the mic tightly as I reached the pre-chorus.

"I just wanna be somebody to someone, oh,

I wanna be somebody to someone, oh

I never had no-body and no road home,

I wanna be some-body to someone!

And if the sun's up-set and the sky grows cold-

Then if the clouds get he-avy and start to fall

I really need somebody to call my own,

I wanna be somebody to someone."

And now I finally looked up and met Laxus's eyes.

"Someone to yoooooooo-uuuuuu

Someone to yoooooooo-uuuuuu

Someone to yoooooooo-uuuuuu

Someone to you."

By now I had started relaxing into the song.

"I…don't ev-en need…to change the worllllllllld.

I'll make the moon shine just for your view…

I'll make the starlight circle the room…."

At these words, I started using my magic to create special effects. An illusion of the full moon appeared behind me, and I sent small bursts of Venus around the room, before vanishing it and darkening the room for the next line.

"And if you feeeeel….like night is fall-ing

I wanna be…the one you're call-ing…

'Cause I believe….that you could le-ad the waaaaaay."

"I just wanna be somebody to someone, oh,

I wanna be somebody to someone, oh

I never had no-body and no road home,

I wanna be some-body to someone!"

This time when I hit the pre-chorus, I started with the special effects.

"And if the sun's up-set and the sky grows cold-

Then if the clouds get he-avy and start to fall

I really need somebody to call my own,

I wanna be somebody to someone."

This time, I left the stage, and with each line, took a step closer to Laxus.

""Someone to yoooooooo-uuuuuu

Someone to yoooooooo-uuuuuu

Someone to yoooooooo-uuuuuu

Someone to you…"

The music stopped, and I stood right in front of Laxus.

It wasn't the whole song, but it got the message across.

Laxus pulled me into his lap and kissed me. "You are somebody to me," he whispered.

Among the whoops and cheering, I heard a noise that distinctly sounded like a body hitting the floor.

Oh, Freed.

It was the beginning of December, and with it, came Koku's first birthday celebration. We all filed out to the palace for the princess's first birthday, and Hisui was probably the most excited over everything, dragging me around by my hand to show me all the decorations she helped pick out for her sister.

I finally managed to get a minute alone with Toma, and asked him if he knew anything about someone else coming out of the gate. Or about Anna Heartfilia.

He said that as far as he knew, no one else was involved, and Anna Heartfilia had died in the X300s. I have absolutely no idea what this means and it's driving me nuts.

For now, I put it out of my mind to help with Koku's party. Hopefully I'd be able to deal with it later.

I can't believe that this is the shit I have to deal with.

"…What. The Fuck," I bluntly stated.

The boys all averted their eyes.

Behind me, Laxus and Macbeth were staring and Erik and Erigor were cackling.

I looked at the boys in front of me. Gray, Lyon, Jellal and Simon were slightly shameful. Natsu, Gajeel, Freed and Bickslow looked defiant, completely standing for their actions.

"Seriously," I stated. "…the fuck?"

"It was Freed's idea," Bickslow said.

Freed crossed his arms. The rest of the kids turned their lightsabers off.

Except Natsu. He kept trying to eat his.

"It's completely safe," Freed told me.

"It's a lightsaber," I deadpanned. "It can cut off hands."

"We made sure it couldn't do that!" Jellal protested, speaking up. "It's just like…really hot swords!"

"Swords can cut off hands, Jellal," I deadpanned. Erik's laughter got louder. Erigor was wheezing.

"I put a safety rune on them," Freed sniffed. "You can't really cut off hands. And the lightsabers aren't too hot, either. Yeah, it'd hurt if you were hit with them, but more like a baton hitting you! A…really hard baton."

"At least we didn't involve the younger kids," Gray pointed out.

"That was because we thought Sting would try to eat one," Simon said.

"Like Natsu is?" I asked.

Their head swiveled to look at Natsu.

Jellal facepalmed.

He probably got that from me.

"Natsu, if you don't stop, I'll tell Lucy."

The boys simultaneous shivered in fear and Natsu shoved his lightsaber at someone else.

Gajeel, who was the nearest, caught it by the beam, and I flinched, expecting it to cut into him.

"Perfectly fine, Lynx," he said soothingly (for Gajeel, anyway). "My hand's still here, see?"

"Now, if you involved Macbeth, he could've made an illusion that he cut his hand off!" Erigor suggested, before cracking up even more. Erik's body was shaking silently now.

"You wouldn't do that, would you Macbeth?" I asked him.

"Depends," he said, shrugging.

"THAT WAS NOT THE ANSWER I WAS LOOKING FOR!"

"At least he didn't lie," Kinana pointed out from behind Erik's body, which was turning a redder color from the lack of air.

"Make your boyfriend breathe," I told her. Which caused her to flush and hit Erik, but too softly.

Laxus rolled his eyes and slapped Erik on the back so he could breathe.

"Laxus!" I said to him. "You're cheating on me with Erik!?"

He rolled his eyes and grabbed my hands. "Why would I want him, when I have you? Well..." he smirked at Erik. "Why would I want him anyway?"

"Hey!" Erik gasped from the ground. "Fuck you, Laxus!"

"I can't believe these people are in charge of us," Simon sighed.

"This was a bad idea, and I hate you all," Jellal muttered.

After the end of the Lightsaber incident, which we do not speak of, we neared the midway point of December. I still had yet to do 'the Talk' which I was slightly dreading considering it included Natsu. And Gajeel. And Juvia.

So I was saving that for a rainy day. But for now, the craze had come back around; the S Class craze.

Gajeel was happy to know that he was old enough to be nominated, but he also seemed to acknowledge that he probably wouldn't be nominated this year.

Laxus seemed determined that this was the year we (yes, we) were going to win. While I wasn't too sure on that, I was looking forward to this year's trials, whether we were both nominated or not.

Though something tells me that it would probably be both. I caught Makarov staring at the board the other day and looking like he was having trouble doing math in his head. Especially since more and more of us were turning twelve or older each year, and we were all starting to get pretty powerful.

Yeah, something tells me that this years S Class trials might be a bit different than normal.

Alright, we've got S-Class trials coming up. Hooray! (And also the Talk I know you're all impatient for that).
