Kobayashi's apartment:

Tohru, Kobayashi-San I know this is a big favour we're asking but please hear us out." Elma says.

I speak up "Haru's third birthday is this Saturday. We want to throw a party for him. Something small. But we need your help."

"We are asking if Haru could sleep over here on Friday night. We want to surprise him" Elma says.

"Wow I never thought you guys would ask. I'd love to host a sleepover with Kanna, Saikawa and Haru. I'll make snacks and they can play games."

"Thank you Tohru. We'd appreciate that. But what does Kobayashi san think?"

"I think it will be fun. But I have to work on Saturday so I can't be there."

"It's fine. There's always next year."

...

On Friday, I drop Haru at Tohru's place. Everything's going according to plan.

Elma and I buy decorations. It was going to be a Pokemon-themed party because Haru loves that show and the games.

We got the cake catered with an Ash and Pikachu icing design.

When we arrive home, Elma feeds the twins and put them to sleep.

"Now we're set. Let's get this place cleaned up"

I clean the living room and kitchen. Elma cleans the bathroom.

We rented some chairs and a table. So we set those up.

We blow balloons, mostly Pikachu coloured. Then hang streams. We hang a banner on the wall which I got made that said "Happy Birthday Haru"

"Wow we did a good job" I tell her.

"Yeah he's gonna love it."

...

On Saturday, we make sandwiches, deviled eggs, Teba shio (salted chicken wings), and onigiri. Luckily we got Lucoa to help us.

"Your boy is turning 3. 3 is a lucky number from where I came" Lucoa says.

"Is that so?" I ask.

The party will be at 2 pm.

We set the table with soft drinks, Pokeball themed cups, food and plastic cutlery.

"So Kanna and Saikawa will pretend to go to the store. They will meet us here at 1:30. Then Tohru will bring Haru back to us. We'll gather at the door and as soon as they open it, we'll shout surprise" I tell Lucoa.

"Hm that sounds like a good plan. Doesn't he have any friends at school?"

"I invited some over but Haru doesn't know. I met their parents at the meeting and we exchanged contact info" Elma says.

"How clever of you Elma-dono"

At 1:30 Kanna and Saikawa arrives. I give them a Pikachu hat with the famous ears.

"Is there anything we can do Nai-San?" The brunette asks.

"Aren't you a nice girl? Can you give Haru's school friends these hats for me?"

"Ok" Kanna and Saikawa unwrap the hats from the packaging.

The doorbell rings. Elma answers it.

It's two of Haru's friends. Their parents drop them off and wave goodbye. One's a girl in a lovely pink dress. Her name is Chino and there's a boy, Kazuki.

"Welcome. Haru has told me wonderful things about you two" I say.

"Is he here?" Kazuki asks.

"He's going to come soon. As soon as he come through the door, we'll all yell Surprise!"

"So he doesn't know we're here?" Chino asks.

"Smart girl" Elma tells her.

"Everyone we're all set. It's 1:55. Let's gather at the door."

This is the slowest 5 minutes of my life. But Tohru was making sure everything's on time.

The clock struck 2 and the doorbell rings. I answer the door.

"SURPRISE!"

Haru gasps. His mouth is formed in an O.

"WOW!" He exclaims.

"Happy Birthday Haru" Chino and Kazuki tells him.

"You guys came too. I'm so happy".

"I see lots of Pikachu" Haru says.

"Speaking of, I've arranged a treasure hunt. We've hidden Pokemon items all over the living room. It's up to you guys to figure out where they're hidden. Whatever you find you get to keep."

"That sounds fun."

As the kids search for items, I speak to Tohru and Lucoa.

"They look like they're having fun" Tohru says.

Kazuki tells Haru "Look I found a deck of cards."

"I found a pack of stickers under the rug" Chino says.

"Boys, they like this kind of stuff." Saikawa says to Kanna.

"Saikawa look what I got" Kanna pastes a large Vaporeon sticker on Saikawa's cheek.

"It suits you" Kanna says.

"Boheee!" the girl says almost passing out.

"Is she going to be ok?" I ask.

"She does that a lot" Tohru replies.

"So Elma I will be keeping an eye on you. Don't snitch the kids' food."

"Ehh? I wasn't planning on doing that Tohru"

"Guys, guys" Lucoa says.

After the treasure hunt we all gather to cut the cake.

We all sing the Happy Birthday song for Haru. He cuts the cake with Chino. They look very adorable.

He then cuts cake with Elma and I. Tohru takes a lot of photos.

"Happy Birthday, son" we hug him.

After lunch and cake, Tohru and I share the ice cream.

"You got a little here" Chino tells Haru, cleaning his face.

"Stoooppp you're embarrassing me" he tells her blushing.

Elma nudges me.

"Yeah I see" Elma and I grin.

Lucoa and Elma sets the chairs in a circle.

"This game is called musical chairs."

"Ooh I know how to play it" Saikawa says.

"I also know too" Haru and Kazuki says.

"Great"

We play the theme song of Pokemon and when it pauses Kanna, Haru and Chino are in their seats.

In the next round, it's Saikawa, Kazuki and Kanna.

They play a lot more times to other songs like Baby Shark and Pokemon.

In the end Kazuki and Chino were left. Kazuki won.

"Haru can you hit that pinata?" Tohru asks him.

"That's easy."

"Well, you have to do it blindfolded"

"But I wouldn't see" Lucoa tells him.

Everyone stands up and watches as Haru tries to hit the giant Pokeball pinata with the stick.

He misses twice and on the final try he gets it, splitting the pinata. Tons of candy bars and sweets fall out. Haru takes off the blindfold and the kids rush to pick up as much candy as possible.

The kids play between themselves. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves even the adults. Tohru, Elma, Lucoa and I secretly sip beer from Pokemon cups (lol) at a separate table. Lucoa drinks Non alcoholic beer though.

"So Lucoa, why don't you drink with us? We don't judge."

"It's a long story, Nai."

"Oh because she got drunk that one time and -" Tohru says.

"Ehhh No no no dont say it Tohru"

I change the topic "Elma, do you remember you proposed to me at my surprise birthday party?"

"How can I forget? It's one of the happiest days of my life."

"Honestly we couldn't have done this without you guys. Thanks a lot."

"We're always here for you" Lucoa smiles and tilts her head.
