The PTA meeting:
"So will you guys be coming to the school festival?" Jun-san asks me.
"Yeah. I'm assuming you're coming too?"
"My son will be in the play. I have to attend" she says. She has a very upbeat personality.
"There's still space for the parent child act if you guys are interested."
"We have to think about it" Elma says to her.
After the meeting:
"Nai, I was thinking, I want to participate in Haru's school festival. I want to do the parent child act with him."
"Hm. Are you sure? I never participated in those things. Mostly observed...we need to talk to Haru about it"
"Yeah I think it'll be fun" he says.
"I wanna sing a song. What do you think Haru?"
"Yay! I wanna sing with Mommy Elma too"
"Go for it, you guys!"
The day of the festival:
"We rehearsed a lot. I'm feeling a bit nervous" Elma says to me, backstage.
"Don't worry, you got this"
"Yeah Mommy. Chino said we'll blow evwyone away"
"Thanks. Are you ready?"
I hear the MC says "Next up, we'll have a mother-son duet by Elma-san and Haru-chan"
There is applause. I take my seat as Elma and Haru steps on the stage.
She and Haru takes the mic.
*sings in Japanese*

They repeat the chorus. By this time, I feel the tears roll down my cheeks. I've been moved to tears. Elma's singing voice is so harmonious and beautiful while Haru's boyish one complimented it.
The audience claps loudly. The teachers and parents looks pleased.
"She was really good" Jun-san tells me.
Elma flashes me a smile from the stage. I give her two big thumbs up.
