Elma's gone to the store.
"Haru, Sunday will be Mother's Day. I want to treat your mom."
"Mm? Sounds nice. Can I help?"
"Yes baby. You will be playing a big part."
"Yay!"
Mothers' day:
I wake up early before Elma. I set to make some breakfast. It's now 8 am and Elma hasn't woken up as yet. I let her sleep in.
I brewed some coffee and poured it into a mug that said "World's best mom".
Elma still hasn't woken up.
I bathe the twins and get them dressed in nice clothes. Then I feed them and have breakfast with Haru.
He helps me take breakfast to Elma in the bedroom.
"Morning Elma" I say. Haru hops on the bed.
"Happy Mother's day, Mommy Nai and Mommy Elma" Haru hugs us.
"This looks delicious. I didn't even know today was that. Thanks" She licks her lips and digs into breakfast.
Haru: "I got you both flowers on my way home from school."
Elma: "Thanks hon." She sniffs it and takes a bite.
When Elma's done with breakfast Haru tells her he has a poem.
Elma: "Really? I want to hear it."
Haru: "M is for a mother who always cares. O is for owganized. T is for teachow who teaches us lessons. H is for happy because she makes everyone happy. E is for an excellent person. R is for reliable because you are always there. Mother is the bestest fwend."
A small tear trickles from the side of Elma's eye.
She pulls Haru into a tight hug. "Thank you son. That was so beautiful."
Haru: "Mommy Nai helped me." Haru and I practiced secretly.
Me: "Haru. Good job. You remembered it!"
I bring the twins to her and she kisses them too.
"Oh you guys are the best gift a mother could have." She kisses me too. "Happy Mother's Day, Nai."
"I'm not finished yet. I'm going to give you a full body massage."
"Ooh I can't wait."
When the kids are out the room, I coat her body with oil and rub her back, feet, and neck. I gave her a large Godiva caramel chocolate bar too.
"This feels so good. Your hands reach the right places." She continues munching the chocolate.
"You got a lot of tense areas. I will loosen you up. You know what, I'll give you a massage every weekend."
She chuckles. "I'll hold you to that."
"I prepared the bath for you too."
I used bath bombs, petals and scented candles.
In the afternoon:
"I pieced together a movie with various moments I recorded on my phone."
I casted the video to the living room flat screen.
There was a video that played with Elma holding a baby Haru. I was feeding him and he spat all out on me and her. I laughed a lot.
Haru: "That was me?"
Elma: "Yes. I remember this. You didn't want to eat your porridge that day."
It transitions to another video with Elma rubbing her pregnant stomach.
In the video I recorded her saying "Nai, I have a joke. I have not one but two buns in my oven. Huehuehue."
"They're baking warm and nice in there." I had replied.
The video cuts to one with Haru, her and I on the beach. She was teaching him how to swim.
The next video is one with Elma holding a new born Ryouma and me holding, Yuka.
"You think we'll mix them up?" I asked her.
"Well I can tell them apart. They're different sexes."
"Say hi to the camera, Elma."
"Aren't you supposed to say cheese?" She asked.
"No that's for a different thing."
"Now I want to eat cheese" Yuka snapped the phone from my hand and it fell. The video ended.
We watch some more clips with the family.
Elma: "Nai, I didn't forget"
I smile as she hands me something wrapped in pink and red gift paper.
I open the gift to see it was an album with all of our family pictures.
"This is really sweet. I love these photos. We don't have a family album. Thank you. This is a really thoughtful present."
