A/N: Welcome back to When The Brothers Cry! And possibly the longest chapter I've ever written! And I've gotta say, I'm exceptionally proud of how this one turned out. Enjoy!
Chapter 15 - War II
Just as Adam was about to be shot, those on the cliff were caught off guard by a loud rumble, before the Yamainu jeeps, which had prevented any chance of escape, were pushed to the side by a number of cars crashing into them. As Okonogi's attention was distracted for a second, Adam pushed himself off the ground, knocked the pistol away from him, then leapt up, and delivered a spinning knee to Okonogi's jaw, sending the man to the dirt. At the same time, Jamie placed one hand on the ground, and spun, decking another of the Yamainu.
"Run!" Adam ordered, as Rika, Satoko, Hanyuu and Rena ran over to the Charger, and Shion raced to one of the Yamainu's jeeps with Jamie. "Go!" Adam yelled to the latter pair, causing the two to nod, before taking off, as the doors of the gatecrasher's vehicles opened, and a group of women got out wielding weapons, the leader of which was a woman who got out of a Subaru Impreza. Looking at her, Rika's eyes widened. "No way! That's..." She thought, before she was cut off by the woman nodding to Adam, who returned the gesture, before getting back into the Charger. Pulling on his handbrake, he spun the car round, and took off.
Growling as he got to his feet, Okonogi heard a voice in his ear. "Okonogi, pursue the Mentor. The Queen Carrier is with him." It ordered, causing him to smile evilly. "Copy that, Cuckoo." He replied, looking to the second-in-command of his squad. "We'll handle this, sir. Go!" The soldier stated, getting a nod from Okonogi, who got into one of the jeeps and drove after the Charger.
Turning back round, the Yamainu soldier came face to face with the woman who was driving the Impreza. "Who the fuck are you?" He demanded, as she cracked her knuckles. "Your worst damn nightmare." She stated, causing her opponent to chuckle. "I don't like to hurt women. I'd step back if I were you." He said, taking off his hat and tossing it to the side. "What, from one the sons of bitches who tried to kill my sons?" She spat back, before shaking her head. "You're done." With that, she swung a punch at his head...
Back in the Charger...
"Adam, was that...?" Rika went to ask, only to be cut off by him raising a hand. "All part of the plan." He stated, reaching down and picking up his walkie-talkie. "Thanks guys!" He said into it, before it buzzed to life. "No problem, Adam. But you're not out of the woods yet. One of the jeeps is on your tail. We bought you about 5 minutes before the rest follow their example. Make 'em count." A feminine voice replied, causing the boy to chuckle. "No problem, little sis. Good luck." He said, before hanging up. "'Little sis?' Does that mean...Libby?" Rika and Rena thought to themselves.
"What now?" Satoko asked, getting a smile from Adam as he looked in the rear view mirror. "Hanyuu..." He said to the horned girl, who was sat in the middle seat in the back of the car. "The seat you're in, there's a hollow bit in the back of it. Can you open it up and bring out what's inside, please?" He asked, getting an immediate nod from the girl, who did as instructed, and once the compartment was opened, she reached in and pulled out a black duffel bag. "Rena, when I get out this car, I want you to open that bag and place it on my seat. I'll take it from there. You understand?" He asked the brown-haired girl behind him. "Got it!" Rena replied, taking the bag from Hanyuu, before Satoko looked out the back window. "We got company!" She yelled, causing Adam to look in his side view mirror, and smirk at what he saw...
One of the Yamainu jeeps was pursuing the Charger, and Okonogi was behind the wheel!
"He's catching up!" Rena called out, after looking out the back window at Satoko's yell. "What do we do, Adam? He's gaining on us!" She asked, causing Adam to look from her, to Satoko and Hanyuu, then to Rika. "Ride or Die." He stated, causing the girl to look at him. "Ride or Die." She replied, prompting the driver to smirk, as he faced towards the road again, before shifting up a gear. Immediately, the car sped up.
In the Yamainu jeep, Okonogi held up a radio. "Squad E, the Mentor is trying to flee Hinamizawa. If he gets into Okinomiya, we lose our shot at the Queen Carrier. Stop him!" He ordered, only to get a panicked "Apologies, sir, but Squad E is under fire! Whoever is shooting at us, we can't move without being fired upon! They've already shot our guns out of our hands!" in reply. Growling, Okonogi threw the radio down. "You want a job done right..." he spat, before slamming his foot onto the accelerator, causing his jeep to tear after the Charger.
With the others...
"Alright, then. We're out of tricks. Adam's on his own." Jamie said to Shion, as he pulled up outside the Sonozaki residence, before they exited the jeep. As he shut his door, he ducked backwards to avoid a punch from Mion. "Whoa, whoa, friendly!" He called out, as he blocked the follow-up punch she threw out. "Jamie?" Mion asked, when she saw his face. "Yeah, it's me, Mion." He replied, getting an exasperated sigh from Mion, who backed off. "Oh, thank Oyashiro! Thought we'd lost you." She said, giving him a hug. "Nah, just a slight hiccup. Adam's with Rika and the rest of the girls. They're safe. For now, at least. But we've got bigger problems to deal with. The rest of the Yamainu are coming, and the stuff that we need is in the Skyline. But the bastards beat me, now I have no idea where it is." He explained, before Mion cleared her throat. Looking behind her, Jamie saw Keiichi standing behind her, wielding a baseball bat. Looking to each other, the two boys embraced quickly.
"You're in luck. We had someone watching the Ryuugu house. I gave them orders to collect the car and bring it here." Mion said, before leading Jamie inside. Immediately, Jamie's eyes were drawn to his car, although they narrowed when he saw the mess the crash had made of his rear bumper. "Alright..." He said in a venomous tone, running his hand over the dents. "Now I'm pissed!" He growled, getting a glare from Shion. "Are you fucking kidding me? The car's what you're pissed off about? What about the fact they're trying to kill us?" She spat, causing Jamie to look to her. "Look, there's a lot of reasons, Shion, which I'll explain later. For right now..." He started, before opening the boot of the Skyline, and pulling out a black bag. "Wanna have some fun?" He asked, opening the bag, revealing its contents to his friends...
Back in the Charger...
"Adam, what's that?" Hanyuu asked, pointing ahead on the road. Following her finger, Adam saw exactly what he thought he would; the Yamainu's blockade, which, normally, would have prevented their escape. However, the jeeps that made it up were being bombarded by a constant stream of bullets. "Our exit. Y'all might wanna buckle up for this one." He ordered, to which the girls immediately complied, before he shifted into the highest gear, and sped up. As they got closer to the blockade, the girls caught onto his intention. "Adam, you aren't...?" Rena asked, but she was cut off by the car colliding with the jeeps, the bigger vehicles being pushed to the sides thanks to the Charger's reinforced frame. Although, this did give the passengers in the car an unwelcome jolt.
"Let's never do that again." Rena groaned, as Adam kept his gaze on the road. "Satoko, our friend still following us?" He asked, causing the girl in question to look out the back window again. "Yeah, he is, but he's falling behind. That's good, isn't it?" She called out, as Adam's hand tightened its grip on the wheel. "Not yet, it isn't." He said, slamming the accelerator as far down as it could go. Eventually, the car passed the city limits of Okinomiya, the jeep not too far behind. "What now?" Rena asked, as they approached a three story parking garage. "You get the bag ready, that's what." Adam replied, before shifting his handbrake and drifting into the bottom floor of the garage. Due to its size, Okonogi had to slow his jeep down to navigate effectively, but Adam used his car's smaller size to his advantage, and quickly drove his Charger up to the top of the garage. After this, the team in the Charger waited for their foe's arrival.
When Okonogi made it up to the top of the garage, he saw the Charger was pointing directly at his jeep, and all of the passengers were still inside. However, the girls in the car were wearing crash helmets. "Alright, Robertson. You wanna play like that? Let's play." He growled, as he and Adam revved their engines. After a few moments, Adam shifted his gearstick, and shot forward, with Okonogi doing the exact same a moment later. As the two vehicles shot towards each other, Okonogi shifted gears, and sped up, but Adam shifted his in turn, and the amount of power in his car made the front wheels lift off the ground as he slammed into Okonogi's jeep, completely crushing the front of the Yamainu member's car. Immediately afterwards, Adam pulled out the pistol he had used earlier, and fired downwards through his car's floor at Okonogi twice, destroying the steering wheel of the jeep. (He had switched out his darts for real bullets during the run to the Charger earlier.)
Luckily for Okonogi, he managed to duck to the side, and grabbed a pistol off the passenger seat, firing it up towards the Charger's driver. However, his aim was off, and the shots connected with the roof of the Charger. Growling, Adam reversed the Charger off of the wreckage of the jeep. Pulling himself out of the wreckage onto the hood, Okonogi tossed his pistol, picking up a metal bar from his jeep's ruins instead. Testing its weight in his hand, he looked to the Charger to see Adam load another clip into his gun.
"What now, Adam?" Rika asked, as Adam cocked the chamber on his gun. "Relax, I got this. Just stay in the car." He said. "Ok. Just remember, Adam. No killing." Rika said, reminding her boyfriend of his promise. "No guarantees. Just stay. In. The car." Adam replied, before going to exit the car. Before he could, Rika grabbed his arm, and pulled him back in for a kiss. "Now, go kick his ass!" She ordered, before Adam smiled, and exited the car. Jumping off the jeep's hood, Okonogi halted when he saw Adam raise his gun and point it at him.
"You thought this was gonna be a street fight?" Adam asked, causing Okonogi to smirk at his earlier taunt being turned back on him. After a few seconds, Adam pointed the gun skywards, and fired, before tossing it into the bag which was now on his seat. Looking at Rena, he smiled, and nodded. Putting his hand into the bag, he withdrew two large wrenches from it, and slammed the car door. Spinning the tools in his hands, he stepped forward, and said;
"You're fucking goddamn right it is."
Looking back to his jeep, Okonogi pulled another metal bar out of the wreckage, and weighed it in his hand. Seeing that it was the same as his first weapon, the Yamainu leader looked at Adam, causing an intense staredown. After a few seconds, both men ran towards each other. Leaping into the air, both clashed their wrenches together, before engaging in what appeared to be a sword fight. Beat for beat, Okonogi managed to either dodge or block each of Adam's attacks, with the younger man doing the exact same, despite his opponent having the advantage in terms of experience.
After about a minute, Okonogi tried a quick one-two combo with his weapons, but Adam ducked to the side, and retaliated with a headbutt, sending Okonogi reeling. Attempting to follow up on his window of opportunity, the boy tried to swing at his enemy's back, but Okonogi blocked by spinning one of his clubs behind his back, before knocking Adam in the back of his head with his other weapon. This blow sent Adam to the concrete. Looking back to his opponent as he scrambled backwards, eventually coming to a stop when his back connected with his car, Adam had barely enough time to duck, as Okonogi swung at his head. As he missed, the older man's swing left a dent in the Charger...
Back at the Sonozaki residence...
"So, you think these guys get the hint yet?" Jamie asked, as he kneed a Yamainu member that had tried to tackle him in the stomach, then delivering an elbow to the man's back, before delivering one last punch to the side of the man's head, knocking him unconscious. "They'd better. I'm starting to enjoy this a little." Shion replied, as she tasered another soldier. "Note to self: Don't piss her off." Jamie thought to himself, as he looked to the other pair present in the area. Over on the other side of the courtyard, Keiichi and Mion were tag-teaming another goon.
"Well, since this guy clearly doesn't know who he's messing with, shall we enlighten him, babe?" Keiichi asked, getting a nod from his girlfriend, who ducked under a punch, and delivered a hard kick to their opponent's chest, winding them, and opening them up for a knee to the face from Keiichi. This sent the man flying backwards to the dirt. "Who-the hell- are you people?" The man groaned, as the pair loomed over him. "We're the Hinamizawa Games Club. And you made a big mistake messing with us." Mion stated, before drawing a gun and shooting a dart into the man's neck, causing him to fall back to the ground asleep. "Wow, these really do pack a punch!" Mion said in amazement, looking at her gun. "Yeah, I can see what Adam and Jamie were on about." Keiichi continued, just as he heard the revs of more jeeps approaching.
"Heads up!" He called out, causing the group to run to the gates, as the jeeps came to a stop. "Ready for Round Two?" Jamie asked, getting a "You know it!" in reply. However, just as they were about to run at the Yamainu, they were beaten to the punch by one of the soldiers, who quickly turned and took out the squad using martial arts. "Damn. That guy's got game." Jamie stated, as the figure walked up to them and took off his cap.
"Jamie Robertson?" The man asked, fixing his gaze on the boy in question. Nodding, Jamie was surprised to see the man extend a hand. "Akasaka Mamoru. I'm a police officer, and a friend of Rika Furude. Your brother's already clued me in on what's going on, and asked me to help." The man explained, as Jamie shook his hand. "Fair enough. I'll thank you properly later. For now, however..." The Robertson brother said, before nodding to the Yamainu, who were getting back up. "Shall we?" He asked, before Akasaka smiled. "Lead the way." He said, gesturing for Jamie to take the lead...
In Okinomiya...
As their fight continued, Adam and Okonogi weren't giving each other any breathing room, and it was becoming quickly apparent to those watching that they were both tiring quickly. It was directly after the spectators noticed this, that the Yamainu member landed a strike on the back of Adam's hand, making him drop one of his wrenches. Going to bring one of his bars down on Adam's head, Okonogi was caught off guard by Adam rolling to his discarded weapon to pick it up.
"Fine, then, asshole. Let's see how you like this!" Adam snarled internally, before wrapping both of his weapons into his hands, akin to a samurai holding his sword. Swinging at Okonogi, who dodged the blow, Adam followed up with a full force kick to the middle of his enemy's chest, sending him staggering backwards, eventually colliding with a concrete pillar. As the wind was knocked out of him due to the kick, Okonogi could only move his head away, as Adam went to deliver a two-handed strike, but only made contact with the pillar, which, due to the power Adam had put behind his swing, lost a chunk of its base as the wrenches crashed into it.
Regaining his composure, Okonogi grabbed Adam's arms, and moved in a blur, making Adam drop both of his weapons. Luckily, Adam had foreseen this coming, and brought his fist into Okonogi's jaw, dazing him. Following it up with an uppercut, Adam sent the older man flying, but Okonogi rolled backwards to regain his footing. However, the blow had caused him to lose his own weapons. Not willing to give him any time to recover, Adam ran forward, and wrapped both of his hands round his enemy's throat, his strength allowing him to even lift Okonogi off the ground, and slammed Okonogi into the roof of one of the cars that had been parked in the garage. Pulling him back down, Adam delivered a hard punch to the jaw, sending his foe to the ground. Glaring back at Adam, Okonogi spat out one of his teeth. "You didn't think it would be that easy, did you?" He growled, making Adam smirk. "Nope." The younger man replied, as Okonogi got back to his feet. "Well, in that case..." The older man growled, before both combatants raised their fists...
Back at the Sonozaki House...
"Right, I think that's the last of them." Akasaka said, as he dropped the last of his opponents to the ground. "Fucking hope so! These guys are starting to piss me off!" Jamie growled, dropping to the ground, exhausted. "Oh, for fuck..." He groaned, as he heard the sound of another vehicle approaching. However, when it came into view, he was surprised to see it was an ordinary civilian cruiser. Getting out, the driver revealed himself to be a brown haired man in glasses and a lab coat. "Dr. Irie!" Shion said, running up to the man and hugging him.
"Shion! Thank God you're alright!" The man stated, before embracing the girl. Looking up, he locked eyes with Akasaka. "They got Tomitake." He stated, making Akasaka nod grimly. "Where are they keeping him?" The officer asked, cracking his knuckles. "Basement of the clinic. There's a secret facility underneath the main building. Takano was suspecting someone else was also on Rika's side, so I had to run. I barely managed to sneak away." Irie explained, which caused Jamie's eyebrows to raise in surprise. "Just how many allies does Rika have? She's got a small army here!" He thought, before getting back to his feet. "Well, what we standing here for? Let's go get him!" He stated, getting a smile from Irie. "There's something else, Mister Robertson." He said, turning to Shion.
"Satoshi's also at the clinic." He stated, causing Shion to snap her head towards him. "Satoshi? Is he okay?" She asked, which drew Jamie's attention. "Hang on, time out one second... Who the hell's Satoshi?" The older Robertson brother asked, getting a smile from his girlfriend. "It's Satoko's 'Nii-Nii', or in other words, her big brother!" She squealed excitedly, before turning back to Irie. "Relax, Shion. Satoshi's fine. But we should get going." The doctor said, before the group nodded. "I'll go with you." Akasaka replied, stepping forward. "Same here." Jamie piped up. "Mion!" He called out, drawing the girl's attention. "I'm gonna need to borrow that gun." He explained, holding up a hand. Nodding, Mion tossed the weapon to him.
"Shall we?" Jamie asked, cocking the chamber of the gun. As he went to enter the Skyline, he stopped when he heard a gruff voice. "I'll go as well." It said, prompting the team to turn, where they came face to face with a large besuited man in shades, wielding a shotgun. "Kasai!" Mion said, as she and Shion ran up to the newcomer. "Girls. I'm glad to see you two are unharmed. But we'll have to talk later. Dr. Kyousuke..." The man replied, addressing Irie. "Allow me to accompany you." He said, causing the man in question to look to Akasaka.
"Don't look at me. Jamie's the one in charge of this team." Akasaka said, looking to the older brother, who nodded. "Irie, Akasaka, Shion, Kasai and I will storm the clinic, and bring back Tomitake and Satoshi. Mion, Maebara, hold down the fort!" Jamie ordered, getting nods from the rest of his team. "Let's do it!" They called out, as they headed off towards their respective objectives...
Back with Adam & Okonogi...
Grunting in pain as Adam landed yet another punch to his jaw, Okonogi staggered backwards, slamming into the side of the Charger. Seizing his opportunity, Adam grabbed his opponent, and kneed him in the stomach. This took the wind out of Testsuro. Attempting to follow up on this with a punch to the head, Adam missed when Okonogi ducked to the side, causing his punch to crash through the window that Rena was on the other side of. Luckily for her, she managed to move backwards just in time, shielding the other girls from the glass shards.
Pulling his fist out of his car's now empty window frame, Adam turned to Okonogi, who had fallen to the ground when he dodged Adam's punch, and delivered a hard blow to the side of his opponent's head, staggering him again. "Just. Fucking. Drop!" Adam said, as he chose to try a different tactic. Spinning round Okonogi, he wrapped his arms round the older man's chest, and using his body weight, flung him backwards onto the hood of one of the cars parked in the garage. Due to his weight, and the momentum he was travelling at, Okonogi caused the windshield of the car to smash when he landed on it.
Looking up, Okonogi saw Adam striding towards him. As the young boy went for a punch, the older man managed to kick his hand away, before kicking him in the chest, winding him. Following up on his window of opportunity, Okonogi wrapped a leg round the back of Adam's neck, and pulled it down, slamming Adam's head into the hood of the car. Pushing him away by spinning his leg into Adam's head, Okonogi slid off the car. Shaking his head to clear it, Adam threw a left hook, but Okonogi blocked the blow, before Adam threw out his right fist. Blocking this punch as well, Okonogi drove his elbow into Adam's arm, with the boy feeling his arm erupt in pain. Immediately, Okonogi spun and punched Adam in the side of the head, only for Adam to throw out a desperate punch, which Okonogi ducked under, allowing him to easily kick Adam in the back of his leg, causing the boy to grunt in pain. As he looked back up, Adam was hit in the face by Okonogi bringing his arm up and cracking him across the face. Staggering backwards, Adam, to his horror, couldn't block another punch from his enemy, which sent him to the ground. Picking himself up, the boy only got a kick to the face as a reply, which sent him flying across the tarmac, rolling to a stop.
In the Charger, the four girls who were watching couldn't believe what they were watching. "He's going to lose." Rena said, looking to her friends. "The three of you, stay here." She said, going to open her door, only for Rika to pull her hand back. "You go out there, you'll die! You can't take him on hand-to-hand. I won't let you!" She yelled, causing Rena to look at her, at which point she saw the younger girl had tears in her eyes.
"Maybe, we don't have to fight him head-on." Satoko said, which drew the other girl's attention. "How's that?" Hanyuu asked, before Satoko looked to her, an evil smile on her face.
"What else? A trap."
At the Irie Clinic...
As the group reached the door to the clinic's basement, Jamie turned to look at Irie. "How many are down there?" He asked, getting a grim look from the doctor. "4. 5 if you include Tomitake." He replied, getting a nod from the older Robertson. "That it?" He questioned, holding up his gun (This time loaded with real bullets). "I'm disappointed." Looking round, he saw that Shion was glaring at him. "Seriously? You wanted more?" She whispered, getting a shrug from her boyfriend. "The amount of hostiles don't matter to me, babe. They're trying to kill us all, and for that, they're going down all the same." Jamie replied, before he looked to Kasai.
"You wanna take the lead, big man?" He asked, getting a coy smirk from the man in shades. "Thought you'd never ask." He replied, pumping his shotgun. "Alright, Dr. Kyousuke..." He stated, looking to the doctor, "Open her up." Nodding, Irie went to open the door, but was cut off by it being opened from the other side. As the Yamainu soldier who opened it walked through, he stopped short when he saw the group, but missing Jamie, who had ducked to the wall beside the door, which swung shut once again. "What the...?" He started, only to be stopped by Jamie wrapping an arm round his throat and placing the barrel of the gun against his head. "Stay quiet, and I don't blow your head off." He ordered, drawing a growl from the man.
"You do realise they can see you, right?" The captive soldier demanded, getting a chuckle from Jamie, who knocked him out, before he looked to his girlfriend. "Get the keycard." Nodding, Shion quickly searched their prisoner's pockets, before extracting a keycard. "Got it!" She stated, passing it to Akasaka, who moved over to the card scanner beside the door. "Ready?" He asked Kasai, who took up position on the other side of the door. Nodding, Kasai said, "Ready." Nodding back to him, Akasaka pulled out his own gun, and looked to the group. "Alright, go!" He said, sliding the card down the slot in the scanner. Beeping, the device displayed a green light, showing the door was unlocked. Immediately, the group surged into the corridor beyond, with Kasai leading the charge, followed by Jamie, Shion, Irie, and Akasaka bringing up the rear. Almost immediately, they reached a branch in the corridor, with halls pointing away in every direction.
"This way!" Irie called out, going to lead his companions down one of the hallways, but they only made it a few metres before they had to stop at the sight of a trio of Yamainu men. "Dr. Kyousuke." The one, which Jamie thought was the leader, said. "So, you the boss?" Jamie asked, before the man shrugged. "For all purposes, I suppose I am. Which gives me the authority to do this..." He said, before he and his fellow soldiers raised their guns. "Oh, for fuck sake..." Jamie started, as the lead soldier tightened his grip on his rifle's trigger. "DOWN!" Kasai yelled, before he, Akasaka and Irie ducked behind one of the corners behind them, and Jamie and Shion took the opposite side. Opening fire, the soldiers just narrowly missed our heroes.
"So, any new ideas?" Shion demanded, as the Yamainu kept up a relentless barrage of machine gun fire. "Yeah, I got one." Jamie replied, pulling something out of his pocket. "Fire in the hole." Quickly ducking out of cover, he pulled a small metal pin out of it, and threw it down the hall. "Grenade!" The Yamainu leader yelled, before he and his men ducked sideways into a room, closing the door behind them. In their haste to get inside, however, they had failed to notice that the device Jamie had thrown was a harmless smoke grenade, which began to spew its contents into the hall.
"Well, at least they've stopped shooting us." Akasaka stated, as the group came out from their cover, and took cover on either side of the door "Yes, but we've got a new problem. If they're in that room, that's where Tomitake most likely is. They won't give him up without a fight. And that door's the only way into that room. As if all that wasn't bad enough, that room also has..." Irie explained, only to be cut off by an alarm blaring.
"Automatic dispensation of anti-intruder gas will commence in two minutes. All staff in the entrance wing, please put on your gas masks." A robotic voice said, causing the group to gasp. "Anti-intruder gas? Is it poison?" Shion asked Irie, panic lacing every syllable. "It's Diphenyl-Chloro-Arsine! It takes effect seconds after inhalation, and causes incessant sneezing for up to thirty minutes." The doctor replied, getting a sigh from Jamie. "Sneezing gas. Fan-fucking-tastic!" He groaned, just before a hole appeared in the door, as a bullet crashed through it. "So, how do we get in there?" Akasaka asked, before Jamie smirked. "I've got an idea. Tell me, big guy..." He said to Kasai, who looked to him.
"That shotgun just for show?"
Inside the room, the Yamainu members looked to each other, confused, when the noise outside died down. As one of them went to open his mouth, they all jumped when a massive hole was blown in the door, and the barrel of a shotgun poked through. "To the three little men in that room, you should know that this gun has been loaded with slug rounds. In other words..." Kasai's voice boomed through the hole, before the table the Yamainu were hiding behind got a hole blown in it.
"The only way you get out alive, is if you turn off that alarm. Either that, or you die. Your choice." Kasai stated, causing the men to look to each other. "He's bluffing." The lead soldier said, before another hole was blown in the table, causing the men to jump. Now, they were starting to get scared. "The first two were warning shots. And judging by the fact that I've not hit any of the men in there, I'm guessing that my next shot, which is going into the center of the table, won't miss." Kasai stated, causing the men to look to their leader. "We have orders to protect the prisoner at all costs! Our own lives be damned!" He growled, before they all heard the shotgun get cocked. "Last chance! Do you want to die?!" Kasai shouted, before the leader looked to his men.
"Fine. Do it."
Nodding, the other two soldiers stood up and raised their hands in surrender. "We're turning off the alarm!" One of them called, getting a grunt of acknowledgement from Kasai. "Walking over to a console in the room, they started to press in some keys. After a few seconds, a beep sounded through the room. "Anti-intruder security deactivated." The computerised voice said.
"Alright, we're coming in! Surrender peacefully. We see any weapons, and I'll blow your heads clean off!" Kasai growled, before the soldiers looked to each other, and nodded. "Understood!" The leader called out, as he and his men dropped their guns to the floor. After a few tense seconds, the door creaked open, and Jamie's group entered the room.
"Akasaka, you got cuffs on you?" Jamie asked, smiling when the detective held up three sets of handcuffs. "Great. Let's get these guys secured." He continued, taking a set from Akasaka, as Shion took another. After they made sure that their foes were secured, Jamie, Shion and Irie untied the ropes binding Tomitake.
"You good?" Jamie asked, as he pulled Tomitake to his feet. "I'm fine. Thanks for the save, by the way." The man replied, getting a smile from Jamie. "Anytime. Now, onto Step 2..." The Robertson boy said, turning to Irie. "Where's Satoshi?" He asked. "I'll take you and Shion to him." Irie replied, getting a smile from Shion.
"Um, we've got a problem." Tomitake stated, drawing the group's attention. "Those shotgun blasts destroyed the communication equipment. We can't talk to the outside world. Which also means I can't call in the Banken." He explained, which confused most of those present. (Except for Irie.) "The Banken?" Jamie asked, getting a nod from Tomitake. "They're a vastly more powerful force than the Yamainu. If I can get them to come here, they can clean this mess up quickly." He explained, getting a nod from Jamie.
"Alright, then. Take the road to Okinomiya. We've got people covering the barricade the Yamainu set up. Akasaka & Kasai, go with him. Call the Banken, and end this. Shion and I'll go with Irie to find Satoshi." Jamie ordered, getting nods from the rest of the group.
"Alright. Let's go."
Back with Adam...
Taking yet another punch to the head from Okonogi, Adam collided into his foe's jeep, where he spied a bag full of grenades sitting on the passenger seat. An idea forming in his head, he spun just in time to block a blow from Okonogi's knee, which he slammed down to the ground. Unfortunately, this opened him up to a punch to the head, but he used his chance to grab Okonogi's legs, and pull upwards, resulting on the older man being sent onto his back on the jeep's roof. Winded, Okonogi couldn't stop Adam from pulling him off of the vehicle, and dropping him onto the concrete.
While those two were brawling, the girls had slipped out of the Charger, and were currently readying Satoko's trap. As she followed the instruction Satoko had given her, Hanyuu asked, "How's Adam doing?" Looking behind her, Satoko saw Adam step behind Okonogi as he struggled to get back to his feet, wrap the man in a bear hug from behind, and pull him backwards over his shoulder, resulting in the soldier being flung onto the hood of his jeep, and rolling off the other side.
"He's doing good. But hurry up. Something tells me that our luck won't hold for much..." Satoko explained to her girlfriend, just before she saw Adam leap onto the hood of the jeep, then jump towards Okonogi to deliver a punch to his back, knocking him to the ground again. As he tried to get up, Okonogi's eyes locked onto one of the wrenches Adam had been using as a weapon earlier in the fight. Grabbing it, he quickly swung it into the side of Adam's head, causing the boy to grunt in pain, and fall to the ground, his head spinning as a result of the blow.
"...longer." Satoko finished. "Man, sometimes, I hate being right." She thought to herself, before Hanyuu tapped her shoulder. "We're good to go. What now?" The horned girl asked. Turning to Rena, she said, "We need a distraction." Nodding, Rena looked towards Okonogi, who had gotten back up.
Stepping behind Adam, Okonogi grabbed his opponent in a chokehold. "First, I'm gonna kill you, Mentor. Then Ryuugu. Then Hojo and her girlfriend. And then, I'm taking Furude to Takano, and our objective will be complete. So, you'll be able to die knowing that, despite all your struggles, all your surprises, you failed. Goodbye, Mentor. You've been a worthy opponent." He growled into Adam's ear. "My name..." Adam struggled to say, as he saw Rena approaching Okonogi in the sideview mirror of the jeep. "Is Adam."
As Adam struggled to breathe, Okonogi was blindsided by a blow to the side of the head, which caused him to release Adam, who coughed repeatedly as air returned to his lungs. Spinning in place, Okonogi saw Rena standing there, clasping one of Adam's wrenches in her hands. Going to swing at the Yamainu member again, Rena was blocked and disarmed by Okonogi, who wrapped his hands round her throat, beginning to choke her out. "Die, you bitch!" The older man spat, as Rika ran up to beside her boyfriend.
"Fight or Die." She said quietly, placing an object in his hand. Looking to her, Adam nodded, and said, "Fight or Die." Smiling, Rika ran off to where Satoko had instructed her to remain. Gripping the object Rika had given him tightly, Adam looked back to Okonogi and Rena.
As Rena's eyes started to bulge, Okonogi started to laugh. "I've not felt this alive in years!" He cackled, but he stopped when he heard a voice behind him. "Hey, asshole!" It called out. Starting to turn, the Yamainu leader was blindsided by Adam delivering a flying punch to his head, which staggered him, and caused him to drop Rena. As he regained his footing, Okonogi was surprised by Adam launching at him again. Sidestepping, the soldier allowed his enemy to fly past him.
"Missed!" He laughed, before Adam smirked. "Did I?" He asked, getting back up. "That's the thing about street fights, Okonogi..." He continued, as Okonogi looked down to his waist. Attached to his belt was a metal hook, and the chain that the hook was attached to was on the front of a winch on his own jeep. "The street always wins!" Adam continued, causing Okonogi to look to his opponent, who smiled, before leaping up and kicking him in the middle of his chest, sending the older man stumbling backwards.
"Now!" Satoko yelled, before she and Rika pulled tightly on a cable they had set up behind Okonogi, making it taut. As the man struggled to regain his footing, he tripped over the cable, and fell backwards, over the edge of the parking garage's roof. All the Games Club members heard was his scream, as the cable on the winch unwound. Running to the jeep, Adam quickly grabbed the lever for the winch, and stopped it dead. Running back over to the edge of the roof, he, Hanyuu, Satoko and Rika all smiled at what they saw. Okonogi was suspended in mid-air by the cable, and his thrashings showed that he was still very much alive.
"You can 'hang out' there for a bit, asshole." Adam grunted, drawing laughs from the other three, but all four of their smiles quickly faded when they realised one thing...
"RENA!"
A/N: Hehehe...yeah, I'm a dick. I originally didn't plan on that cliffhanger ending, but I couldn't resist. Anyways, I promise, the next chapter's gonna be the last part of this 'War' trilogy. I'll see you all in Chapter 16 - War III.
Madman out!
