Chapter 21 –
POV: Sarah
Time: 13:00
Location: Cranial Island
Ever since I was seven, I was the Brave Twin… the strong twin… the hot headed one… But it's funny, how before that day I was pretty much the same as Rex. Quiet, thinking a lot, and scared of others. Part of me still believes I am still just that shy little girl, but I yell at others pushing them away before I can get close to them… I'm rude, I yell, I get mad easy…
Todd… He was one of the first people I could call friends… But even still he doesn't know the original me. I think Rex barely even remembers that me. Then I met Pauleen. A girl who is incredibly shy, using the magic power of a mask to make herself brave, she's a nice girl who I can definitely tell will have the courage to talk without that mask. When will that day come? I'm not sure.
Then there's Rupert. He's braves for the most part. I've seen him act bravely for people he wishes to call friends. But he's concerned for his father's approval… but he shouldn't have to make himself suffer in the process.
Despite the situation being dire… I mean the parks are at risk of losing power because people stole something called Super Electrominites. Rupert right now is pushing his friends his away. I don't want him to make mistakes similar to myself.
I chased Rupert toward the Fossil Cleaning room. Calling out to him before once more. "Rupert, wait!"
He stops without looking at me. "I want nothing to do with you people."
"You think I care if you want to deal with me or not." I grab his hand forcing him to look at me. I can easily tell from his eyes he's upset. He wants to help us, but he also feels that he can't. "I said begone! Or are you really that inane to not listen! If your so worried about needing help. Then it would have been better to have gone with Rex and Pauleen."
"I completely understand the pressure your under." I shout at him. "But you can't just—"
He snaps before I could finish. "As if you could understand. You don't understand the first thing about running a company. You know nothing about how it is in my family. If you think your life can compare to mine then you are a naïve idiot!"
"…" I glare at him for a second, backing him to the wall. "You're right. I am an idiot. I'm not smart, I barely passed the test to come here. Not only that I'm incredulously weak, I lose my temper every other minute. But I have worked hard to get where I am now. So, you are just going to shut up and listen to what I'm about to say."
"…" He stays silent. His eyes are hesitant… he could tell from my voice this is serious. And not just because of how the park is going to lose power soon.
I smile very gently… "Few people know about this… Really significant people are Hunter and my mother. Rex vaguely remembers it as well… but not too much… after all he…" How long ago was the last time I talked about this? How much pain, sadness, fear of remembering that day… "He almost died with our father. Making him hospitalized for nearly over a month."
"…" Rupert stays silent, but this time with his eyes wide. Surprised I was telling him this. Especially after I avoided the topic so often. Not even Todd knew about this.
"As kids me and Rex were always together. Much more similar to each other back then." I Dryly reminisce the days of when we were kids. "Both of us scared of people we didn't know. But as long as we were together, we could deal with people. We thought as long we had our family it'd be fine. But that soon was shown to be untrue…" I sigh… "When dad died, it slowly became a struggle. Mom had to deal with the grief of losing her husband, and the worry of almost losing her son. Sure, we had our aunt and uncle to support us. But it was still hard. I had to make sure Mom didn't need to worry about me. I needed to make sure neither me or Rex got into trouble. But really look how much of a mess I am. I oversleep, I can't cook, I struggle with math! I felt the pressure so many times that I felt close to breaking. But it slowly got easier, especially when me and Rex made friends with Todd. but I think if I had friends that I could count on sooner… I might have been a better person. So please… Don't just let you feel that you have to push us away to succeed. It'll only hurt you more." I say… Turning around… I make my way to the door.
"Sarah, wait!" Rupert calls out to me as I leave. I stop. "…" He hesitates. "I'll come help you."
As he said that, I felt a weight come off my chest. And I weakly said, "…Thank you."
POV: Rex
Time: 13:35
Location: Ilium Island (Icegrip Plateau)
It's been barely an hour since Joe told us the situation of what was happening. So… someone stole the import items powering the park. It's so strange how it happened, but we really can't focus on that now.
Right now, it's just me and Pauleen searching the Plateau. Sarah is off trying to convince Rupert to help. That look in her eye…
"Hey, Rex, Sarah looked pretty serious about convincing Rupert. Do you think she can?" Pauleen noticed that Sarah was a bit strange earlier.
"I don't know, but she surely won't drag him here by force. I know that for sure." I shrug. "But really we should focus. We sure were lucky someone noticed some suspicious people over by Zone D."
"…" She can probably tell I'm changing the subject. It's best to just focus on the situation at hand. As we continue down, she grabs my shoulder and points at a figure. "hey down there!"
Down near the cave entrance, there stood someone. I think it's a girl, she has orange hair… is that a skull pin in her pony tail? She also had a black shirt with white accents and a white skirt with black accents… Something tells me she's the culprit.
As we walk towards her, she notices us and calls out to us. "Oh, heeeey. You made it. Cool. I kinda thought you'd be here sooner but… yeah." Definitely the culprit. "Yeah, like, this is a pretty big deal and all, so I was expecting someone to find us sooner."
"Well… It is a big park." I quietly mutter. While Pauleen focus on another note.
"You're with the BareBones Brigade!" yeah… that skull pin made it quite obvious.
"Toootally." She over exaggerated her sarcasm. But then laughed. "Although actually, I'm one of the three BareBones Brigade commanders." Striking a pose, she smiled. "I'm the groooooovy chick, Lola!" Lola then smirks at us. "Soooo, did you dig my plan to steal the Super Electrominites?"
"I'm more curious on how you got them." I inadvertently say. but it is true… how the heck did she steal them that easily?
"Well, I thought it was toootally wicked." She blew a bubble… wait where'd she get the gum from? "See, 'cause if you can't clean or revive, then, like, there's not going to be a cup, man. It's gonna tooootally harsh the mellow of every fighter in this park, man. I can't waaaaait."
"You won't get away with this, hippie!" Pauleen shouts at Lola, "Give those Super Electrominites back!"
"Yeaaah, but noooo." She shrugs, un interested… I mean that is to be expected. "I don't think you were listening to me. Remember the part where I like, said I wanted the Fighters to be all sad about the Cup? So then, I'm prooobably not gonna give the Super Elctrominites back."
"Grrr…" Pauleen growled… man that mask is powerful if she'll growl at someone. "Fine then! We'll just settle this with a Fossil Battle!"
"Oh, man. Like, that's toooo funny." Something tells me she has us out numbered. As she snaps her fingers, two other people appear. One of them is a more rotund guy with a green mohawk, and a black biker jacket, I think Sarah fought this guy recently… His name was Lester? I think she said. the other was someone I've dealt with before… back when I temporarily had blonde hair. The guy who captured me thinking I was Sarah, Cole.
"Well, well! if it isn't the fighter who ruined my awesome plan!" Is he still mad about that? "I am very excited to see you again, kiddo. You have no idea."
"Gahar har har!" There was a deep bellow from the guy with a mohawk. "I'm gonna thrash you good for what you did to me at Mt. Krakanak!
"Okay, one That was my sister who fought you. Two, you Cole you tried to capture Sarah… even if you didn't capture me by mistake, Sarah definitely wouldn't have let your plan continue." I defend myself… but really, we're out numbered.
"Uh…" Pauleen, doesn't know if we could take all three.
"Heh, we've won before it's even begun." The only one who seems competent. Lola laughed. "…Oh, man. That, like, rhymed. Coooool." On second thought… maybe she's not that competent.
"You think you've outnumbered them, but in reality, you're the ones outnumbered!" Ah! Sarah!
"…" Rupert is there as well. "Well, I'll agree in saying that all three BB Brigade commanders suffer from a terminal case of over confidence."
Everyone was surprised by the appearance of Sarah and Rupert… well everyone except for me maybe. "Just in time as always."
"Yeah, I can't just let my baby brother get into trouble." Sarah smirks. "Or else, what would happen to my image as the reckless one."
"Rupert!" Pauleen shouted to him. "B-But… Why?!"
"Because… You and Sarah were right." Rupert said a bit shyly. "I need to be more honest with myself… and I can't just push away those who wish to help me. I like this Cup, and I'm looking forward to fighting Sarah in a Fossil Battle. I'd be rather disappointed if it was canceled."
"…" Sarah starts to blush. "H-hey! You don't need to be that—"
"Hey, what are we chopped liver?" I call out, with a small smirk. Chances are… our next round opponents can be anyone.
"ugh… enough with the semantics." Lola spat out annoyed. [A/N: I don't think Semantics is the right word… but I can't remember the right word for this.] "This is toooootally, like, annoying." She stepped forward towards me. I guess, I'm the lucky target. "Cole? Lester? It's time to take out the recycling, man."
"With pleasure!" Cole shouted looking at Pauleen.
"Yo!" Lester looked at Sarah and Rupert. They'll surely be enough to handle him.
"Take this, you damn brat!" Lola tosses out three dino-medals at me. out come three bonified Vivosaurs aka Boneysaurs. A Tapejara, Brachiosaurus, and a Lambeosaurus. All three in the skeletal structures…
Well, luck me for having Daspleto, Tricera and Rhyden. "It won't be as easy as you think!"
It's nice as her Vivosaurs slide around on the ice. Mine are in the same position. But the Jara is dangerously close to my Tricera. "Boney screech!" as Lola commanded, the lungless skeletal Jara remains screech loudly doing a bit of damage to Rhyden… and put him to sleep… that's not good. "That's noooot all, Lambeo, Boney Chomp!"
I was lucky as the distance didn't allow Tricera to get too badly hurt. But now she's used up all her FP, mine time to fight! "Tricera Running Smash!" Tricera took a running charge stabbing their horn into the B-Jara, but damn that was stronger than I though. But this isn't all. Just a small formation changes and… "Daspleto, Lethal Jaws!" And Daspleto takes a giant bite of the skeletal bird, sending it back to a medal.
But also sent Lola's FP Up, not that with Rhyden asleep can he equalize, nor is my FP high enough for him to do that. "Ah! B-Jara! That's, like, unfair!" Her Vivosaurs shift in position. Her B-Brachio in a great place to attack Rhyden gives off a Boney Tsunami. Though Rhyden is more than able to take the hit! And again, that B-Lambeo isn't in a good position for that Boney chomp against Tricera.
FP shoots up to one fifty… Damn Ice, Gotta reform their placement. Well, with Lola's current team. let's try this! "Daspleto, Smash Combo!" Daspleto bites down on Lambeo then shoulder checks it, but it's not enough. Dang…
"So much for a one shot hit!" Lola says as her Vivosaurs all slip around. "B-Lamb Combo!" She yells it attacks Rhyden, guess he's the target. But Rhyden isn't going down that easily. I put a lot of time and effort collecting his bones.
My turn again… But with the current position of Lambeo, Daspleto can't reach though B-Brachio is in a decent place. "Tricera Running Smash, B-Brachio!" I shout, then swiftly change the positions again. "Daspleto Lethal Jaws same target!" They aren't down but both of her Vivosaurs are badly hurt. Just gotta get luck on positions.
"Geh, Boooney Chomp!" Lola commands as her Vivosaurs positions shift. Still targeting Rhyden. He's not falling that soon.
But great, Daspleto now in the back. Time to take a chance. "Tricera Running smash again!" And Critical point on the B-Brachio's vertebra. Down it goes. Just once more. but before that. "Let's level the playing field a bit more. "Rhyden Power Scale!" I equalize the FP on both sides. Just enough for one more attack. Switching Daspleto into position. "Smash Combo." With another bite and shoulder check down goes the B-Lambeo.
"Ah, nooo, this is like, a tooootal bummer, man!" She shouts as her Vivosaurs fall. Looking to the side seems like everyone else had a success as well.
"Gya! All of this losing is really starting to cramp my style!" Cole shouts as his Vivosaurs fall to Pauleen.
"I AM SO ANGRY NNNRRGGGHHH!" Lester shouts as he lost as well.
"Heh, alright then." Sarah smirks showing confidents. "Why don't you hand us those Super whatchamacallits now."
BBBBRRRRCKCKCKCKC!
The ground shakes as the ice around us starts to crack. What the hell?! This is a stable area. I doubt just having Vivosaurs would cause this what the heck is happening.
"Aaaaaahh!" Pauleen shouts as she nearly falls over.
"Oh, maaan. Like, what was that?" Lola looks confused as the ground shook… this definitely not their plan.
"I don't know, but it don't feel right!" Lester looks scared as well.
The ground shakes as Cole looks to the side noticing something. "What is that?!"
We all look at the ocean as a giant Whale leaps at us… This certainly isn't good.
