Disclaimer: This story is not owned, this game Fossil Fighters Champions was published by Nintendo, and developed by: Nintendo SPD, Red Entertainment, M2, and Artdink.
Other notes: So to clear things up the previous week. I had to deal with a lot of file corruption making me lose quite a few chapters for Fossil Fighters Champions, and few other things for my stories. cause of that... my week has been a bit problematic. Now I finished this just the day before an Exam that I have. It is short, but it's better than nothing. I'll try to post something next week, but I am scheduled to have my Wisdom Teeth removed next week so no promises.
Also, I guess I should mentions since the story is decently close to the end of the Fossil Fighters Champions game. My next story will be writing a Pokémon game in inspiration for the Generation 4 remakes that have been announced. While I'm not thinking of doing a main series game, I'm gonna go with writing a fanfiction based of Mystery Dungeon. As some viewers already know, I have a single chapter up for Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky. So I'll be writing that. That's about this for this message, enjoy the chapter.
Chapter 27 – A Sinking Feeling
POV: Rex
Time: 13:25
Location: Cranial Island
"Rupert… You seriously have the wrong idea. We didn't even know Don Boneyard was even a thing when me and Todd first met Professor Scatterly." I tried to convince Rupert as we walked back into town. I'm not sure how many fossils that Rupert would find useful, but we found a couple. But right now, Rupert somehow got into the idea, that I met Scatterly because I thought the Bare Bones Brigade was really suspicious. News Flash, it was pure coincidence.
"True…" Rupert sighed agree with me. "It just seems too coincidental, wouldn't you say?"
"The Story of Zongazonga, the Boneysaurs, and the skeletal leader Don Boneyard, yeah… it definitely does seem like it." I sigh back. Yeah, that is coincidental… "Pft, this sounds just like how alien technology was confused for weirdly shaped idol figures."
"What now?" Rupert looked at me questioningly when I said that… Right… Hunter said that, that wasn't public information…
"Nothing. Forget what I just said." I say very quickly.
"…" Rupert raised an eyebrow at my remark, but didn't say anything. Guess he wouldn't be asking for more info about that.
But really… Something else had just been bothering me about this whole situation. I mean, I could understand that if Don Boneyard is Zongazonga he'd be trying to reclaim the islands, and with the Caliosteo Cup underway, that proves quite hard…
So, he'd resort to stopping the cup. But if you ask me, the ways seem somewhat placid. Taking a look at what's happened so far: We have the first instance of them just stealing a jumbo Tron and blocking the pathway to Mt. Krakanak, both which took place overnight, and had no reported injury among fighters or employees. Next was Cole's plan to kidnap all of the female fighters, which was more of the Bare Bone Brigade lackeys being butlers to the female fighters. Even still not one of the female fighters reported to being harassed or hurt in any way. Third, we had Lester's plan… which I'll admit that the only reported trouble was people with purple skin, people who for some reason thought to eat the jello bath giving themselves stomach aches, and some clogging of some pipes that eventually washed out. But overall, no injury. Then we have the most recent attempt, but it could be debated how deadly it could have been. I mean depriving the park of power could be dangerous depending on where Fighters are at the time, but when the Electrominites were stolen, no damage was reported. If Don Boneyard was truly Zongazonga, based on what is read from the Tablets, I'd expect there would've been more of a violent take over.
Besides that, point of nothing really bad happening to any of the fighters… there is also the fact that there are so many instances of them sneaking into the park unnoticed. Major incidents like stealing a jumbotron, another being the Electrominite incident. It's… I don't know but security problems like that shouldn't just happen. I'm clearly missing something, and it's bothering me.
"Rex?" Rupert called to me seeing that I had spaced out for a bit.
"Yeah… I was just—" Before I could finish my sentence, the ground started to shake. For a second I thought I was being clumsy, but then other people started to talk about it.
"Eeeek! What's happening?!" "It's an e-e-earthquake!"
As the shaking started to slow, I heard the sound of something akin to helicopter blades. Looking up me, Rupert, and a crowd that had started to form, all saw a flying Jumbo-Tron headed our way. For a second I thought that Joe might be making an announcement about the earthquake, but it would be far too quick for that to happen. And as I expected when the screen lit up, Don Boneyard was there. "Bwa ha ha ha ha! Behold, mortals! I have returned! But not to worry. I only came to wish you all farewell… For you see, your pathetic Caliosteo Fossil Park is about to sink beneath the waves! All three islands will be swept away like grains of sand on the shore. So, unless you're an exceptional swimmer, I would suggest fleeing for your life right… about… NOW! Oh, this just tickles my funny bone! Bwa ha! Bwaaaa ha ha ha ha ha!" And as soon as he said the message the Jumbo-Tron flew away…
"…" Murmurs started to spread through the crowd wondering if Don Boneyard was telling the truth. But with how coincidental that earthquake was… it might as well be.
"Rex, we must go to Joe." Rupert reasoned to me.
"Yeah…" I breathed, with this new development… a lot of my thought process might as well be thrown out of the window. Sinking the islands well that's a global disaster and a half.
Time: 13:40
Location: Joe's Suite (Cranial Island)
Surprisingly the first person there was Todd, he apparently had gone somewhere separate from Sarah. Who eventually came up the elevator with Pauleen. "Rex, Rupert, Todd! You're here, Digadig!"
"Of course, I'm here! I came as soon as that stupid skeleton finished talking!" Todd exclaimed; this is a certainly serious matter.
"Both me and Rex figured that this was a job for the Caliosteo Patrol Team, and came here right away." Rupert explained, before I could even try to.
"Well, I'm glad y'all feel that way, 'cause we're in a whole heap'a trouble right about now." Joe said, which did appease anyone's worries.
"So, is that skeleton telling the truth then?!" Sarah shouted as she heard that. "Can he really sink the islands?"
"Ya got me there, little lady. I'm afraid I don't know much 'bout that kind of thing. I asked one'a the local eggheads to ride by and help us out." Joe said, then looking at his watch, "Figured he would'a been here by now…"
As he said that, the elevator dinged. Where a familiar man walked out of the elevator. It was none other than Professor Scatterly. "Ho! Pardon me for being so late! I had the most fascinating lunch, you see, and so…" It took him to notice who was around the room, but the moment he did. "Good heavens! I seem to run into you kids wherever I go, eh wot?"
While it was nice to see him after such a short while. We had business to do, which Joe quickly took control of. "Sorry to rush ya, doc, but we need ya to tell us what's goin' on with these here islands."
"Oh, yes of course. Quite." Scatterly nodded falling into quick thought. "Well then… I would deduce that the recent quake is a result of the Spinal Pillar being weakened."
"Spinal what now? Isn't that fictional place from the Pokémon games?" Sarah definitely misheard that. Scatterly said Spinal Pillar. Sarah was referencing Spear Pillar, one of most notable regions of the Sinnoh Regions, Pokémon's fourth generation game. I heard something about remakes for that coming out some time this year. {A/N: Yes, I had to put this somewhere.}
"Ahem, the Spinal Pillar." Scatterly corrected, "is a massive structure that supports the Caliosteo Islands. Theoretically, if someone were to chip away at this pillar, it would eventually snap in two. And this, of course, would send the islands plunging into the sea… All quite terrible, yes?"
"That's low, Even for the BB Brigade!" Todd shouted, "We can't let them get away with it!"
"We must stop them from eroding the Spinal Pillar further." Rupert said.
"Er, yes." It seemed Scatterly still had a bit to say. "Well, you see, I fear that stopping further erosion will not be sufficient. There's already been too much damage to the Spinal Pillar, wot wot? We have to find a way to reinforce it and repair the damage."
"And just how are we gonna do that?!" Joe shouted, as if any of us knew… I didn't even know what a Spinal Pillar was.
"With Calcium, my good man!" Scatterly however responded as if it was common knowledge. "The Spinal Pillar is composed of an extremely hard type of calcium, you see? IF we were to inject a similar substance into the pillar, it should be enough to save the islands!" Scatterly said, then continued. "However, there's only one thing that contains the type of calcium we need… The Prehistoric fish, Sardinisaurus! Yes, quite. Therefore, we have to find a Sardinisaurus fossil rock, and right quickly at that!"
"Sardinisuarus…" Joe mumbled. "Well, I reckon we can find Sardinisaurus fossil rocks deep inside the Petrified Woods. It's a dig site over on Ribular. It's been closed for maintenance, but I'll open 'er up right now." Joe said typing a few things onto a console. Probably notifying the employees. "Now then, Sarah, lemme se yer sonar there."
"M-mine?!" Sarah said out in surprise.
"This is a job in due short time. I hear yer one of the fastest kids on the islands. So, I need you to get over to the Petrified woods and find one'a them fossil rocks!" Joe responded to Sarah. Who gave Joe her fossil Sonar. After a small minute. He handed it back to her. "Right… I done fiddled with yer sonar so that it'll pick up Sardinisaurus fossil Rocks." Joe quickly then looked at me Rupert, Pauleen and Todd. "You three, I got another job for y'all. Right now, Folks out there are in a right panic. I'd like ya to help calm 'em down. The last thing we need's a buncha scared folks stampeding around!"
"Understood." Rupert said taking charge. "Come one, let's go."
"Digadig!" Pauleen nodded.
"You got it!" Todd with the process.
As we were about to leave, I saw a nervous look on her face. "C'mon, you got this. You're my sister after all."
"…" Seeing me cheer for her, I could see Sarah calm slightly. She smiled. "You're right, guess I gotta give this my all."
