A/N: So yeah, this is a Tamers rewrite so to speak. I dabbled with it a while back but it never came to anything. Takato's chapters were from that first project and since I liked them so much I reused them here. Lycamon is the same species from my earlier story 'Legend of the Blue Wolf' but is not the same Lycamon specifically. I hope to bring a more adult and realistic approach to the Tamers story with my version, many twists and new takes on things but ultimately it's still Tamers. I hope you enjoy.

Chapter 9 - Dawning

Location: Unknown

Time: 12:17

"Sir, we have an event occurring in Shinjuku!"

The call went out from the monitoring station deep underground at Rubicon's top secret site. The screens showed a vast energy spike engulfing the city of Shinjuku only a few hours old, satellite feeds monitoring the world as a whole.

"Speak to me, give me details." The overseer barked. Ever since their project went online they've been waiting for something to prove their work wasn't for nothing. A mere few days after Agent 421 was complete they detected the event.

One screen shifted to zoom in on Shinjuku, three separate pings too vast to narrow down to specific areas but each with their signature shown beside them. "I'm tracking a triple emergence in a localised area, all within a few minutes of each other."

The overseer nodded and cracked his knuckles. "It's beginning, just as we thought. Send word to the ready team, have them ship out to West Shinjuku and establish a forward post. Adjust satellite coverage to give us live monitoring at all times." He made to walk away, then stopped. "And radio downstairs, tell them to release Agent Four Twenty One to Shinjuku. Mission is seek and destroy."

'Okay, so this is going to take some getting used to.'

Tyler flushed at the sight before him. He had just woken up after a decent night's sleep but seemingly forgotten prior arrangements made the day before.

He and Sypher had gone over a few details, when to hide from view, how they would eat meals before his mother got home, and how they would sleep. They had agreed to share the bed since it was big enough but what Tyler hadn't counted on was how her white clothing wasn't part of what she was. He assumed that since digimon were digital beings their clothing would be too, but the way Sypher had removed hers disproved that theory.

She was naked in his bed.

Luckily her back was to him as she slept soundly, but he could still tell she was nude. Her bare back was facing him, all the way to the base of her tail. The sheets thankfully kept everything important covered but all the same Tyler rolled over to avert his eyes. Worse still his bed was against a wall, and he was between the wall and her. He had to climb over her to get out of bed, or wait for her to get up first.

Curiosity won over though and his head turned back. He could see through some strands of her hair the still present marks left by the control collar. He wondered what those people did to her, what they planned on doing to her before she escaped, and how she escaped in the first place. He had so many questions but he didn't want to push for answers before she was ready to give them.

Slowly he reached out and brushed away her hair, gently tracing the series of marks where the probes had pushed against her neck and the line from the collar itself. Her fur was smooth against his fingertips, strands slipping between them. But when he felt her stir and let out a soft purr he snatched his hand away and turned back to the wall, embarrassed about his actions.

Sypher opened her eyes and stretched in the bed, having felt the touch on the back of her neck and slightly missing it. She went to glance at him then stopped herself, it would give her away. Instead she sighed and stretched again, shifting to sit up and swing her legs out.

Tyler felt the shift and stole a brief glance, seeing her bare back again as she reached for her clothes. He was thankful she was getting dressed, he might have to explain that to her later on.

Sypher donned her gauntlets last and stood up, stretching a third time. Tyler chose that moment to roll over and 'wake up'.

"Good morning Sypher, did you sleep well?"

She turned to him and nodded, trying a tired smile. "I did yes, I can't remember the last time I slept this well. How about you Tyler?"

"I slept fine thanks yeah. I guess we should start the day and figure out what we will be doing as partners from now on." Tyler rose, having disrobed to just his boxers to sleep, and got dressed as well.

Together the duo went downstairs for breakfast, seeing as Tyler's mother had left early for work so they were undisturbed.

Things were a little more hectic elsewhere though. Takato had woken with Guilmon facing him, tucked against his bare torso. Trapped between a wall and the nuzzling snout of the female dragon digimon there wasn't much he could do except wriggle out of bed the hard way. And that's exactly what he did, landing on the floor with a thump.

Guilmon's head peered at him from the edge of the bed. "That was both silly and unnecessary Takato, you could have just asked."

The brown haired teen flushed a little and picked himself up off the floor, looking to retrieve some clothes. "I guess yeah. I thought you were asleep though.

Her two yellow eyes blinked slowly. "I sleep lightly, if you had asked I would have moved for you."

"Noted," Takato replied. "I'm gonna take a shower, stay here and quiet until I get back. Last thing we need is my parents investigating any noise here and seeing you, they'd freak out and possibly put you or even us in danger."

Guilmon nodded and tucked herself back in bed to doze. "I'll be here waiting, and then we can see about more of that food you gave me yesterday."

Elsewhere...

"So we're partners now right? That means you'll go wherever I go?"

"Sure does, I'll be by your side - or on your head most likely - wherever you go."

"Like, including the bathroom?"

"I think we can make exceptions Henry, momentai."

Henry sighed in relief as he and Terriermon cleared up another detail of their new partnership, as mundane or daft as it seemed it still gave the teen a little more confidence in his new role.

The pair were in the park, Henry wanting some fresh air and to be away from his family while he sorted out his change in circumstances. He chose a small clearing within some trees, the same clearing in which Terriermon first appeared in. It wouldn't do well for anyone to discover the little digimon, especially when he knew so little of what he was supposed to do.

He held his digivice in his hand, his symbol of the connection he had to Terriermon. He turned it over a few times idly, studying it and wondering what it could do. His thumb brushed one of the buttons lightly, Henry pondering its function. With no better way of knowing he pushed it.

The screen lit up with the words 'Scan Mode', and since it was aimed roughly at Terriermon his information came up on a projected holographic display.

"Wow, sci fi much?"

It showed Terriermon's name and gender, a detail Henry was surprised to see listed, along with the attacks he used and some other details about his statistical values. It was a mirror image to the game he played, the numbers were all the same. Low to medium strength, high agility, medium resilience and energy levels.

Henry was drawn to the other two buttons, his finger moving to the middle one. Again he pushed it and the screen changed from Scan Mode to Find Mode, the holographic display fading away and the screen showing four red arrows pointing to the center.

"So this must be how to find you if I lose you, like how I found you the first time."

Terriermon stared at the device with his tamer, having moved to his side when the scan activated. "Looks that way to me Henry, good to know I won't get lost for long."

There was one last button on the device, slightly set aside from the other two. "I wonder what this button here does?"

The other three Tamers' Digivices went off with an alarm, each displaying an arrow indicating the direction of the source to some sort of call. Rika looked at her device, then to Lycamon. The canine digimon nodded back. "Sounds like we are needed already, we should investigate."

She threw her long coat on and nodded, card deck at her hips. "I agree. Let's find out what this is."

Together they left her room and turned to face the direction the arrow pointed. Lycamon looked forward and extended his paw to her.

"Take my paw, and cover your ears."

Rika did as he asked, after a few moments of hesitation. She shielded her ears as best she could as Lycamon looked towards the source of the call, fur arcing with electrical energy. With the sudden sound of a thunderclap and a flash of yellow Rika and Lycamon found themselves in Shinjuku park, mere seconds after they were in her garden.

"Woah, teleportation?"

Lycamon nodded, having appeared in a well hidden place out of the view of the public. "Just one of my abilities." His ears shot up followed by his head. "We're not alone."

Sure enough the pair were being looked at by others, specifically Henry and Terriermon. Each looked at the other in slow realisation that they were not the only pair in the area, not the only Tamer and partner digimon.

Shortly after, before any words could be exchanged, Takato and Guilmon appeared on one side of the hidden clearing, and Tyler emerged on the other. All held their digivices, having used them to navigate to the source.

Terriermon decided to speak up given the awkwardness. "I guess that last button calls other Tamers in the area, huh."

"You did that?" Takato asked, pointing to Henry.

A shrug was the first answer he got. "I guess I did. Now I know what all these buttons do."

"Dude, not cool. I was in the shower."

Henry shot him a look in response. "It's not like these things come with instructions is it? I'm sure none of you could work out what these buttons do any better than I did."

He won the argument at that, no one else would have known any better what each button did - or that there were other Tamers in the area.

Rika drew nearer, Lycamon in tow behind her. "So we all have digimon partners, why are you here?" She directed the last part at Tyler, who was standing on his own.

"Same reason as you, my partner is just being cautious because she detected humans. Obviously your ones are less hesitant about being caught." Sypher materialised beside him when he finished, the threat she thought she felt from the others no longer present.

"That's… actually a very good point." Rika conceded. She looked to Takato and Henry who looked a little sheepish, even she felt a little careless. "We need to be more careful with who does and doesn't see our digimon."

They all knew what she meant, it would only take one person to panic and make a phone call for soldiers and the like to come for them. Their digimon would be destroyed, or worse captured.

Takato spoke up after a few moments pause, each thinking about the consequences of digimon being seen. "So I guess we have two options here. We can go our own ways again, or we can sit and introduce ourselves. It's likely we'll be running into each other a bit more from now on, and since no one else has arrived we're probably the only four Tamers here."

They all nodded in agreement, but Henry spoke up. "I guess I'll go first, since I kinda called you all here…"
