Chapter Thirty-One

Suito: 4000 LP

Ava: 4000 LP

"So you simply intend to keep me busy until sunrise, huh?" Suito asked, "that is your master plan?"

"My master plan was to eliminate the Elder Blood before all of this could have happened," Ava replied, "unfortunately I'm forced to use Plan B now. Which is, indeed, stalling you until sunrise."

"Too bad I'll finish this duel nice and quick," the man said, as he picked a card from his hand, "I Normal Summon Kaleidocorpus Inside Fade!" The monster that appeared on his field was a container made from colorful stained glass, although it didn't quite appear on the field to begin with, instead being stuck in the second it would have faded into existence.

Kaleidocorpus Inside Fade: LIGHT / Psychic / Effect / Pendulum / Level 2 / 600 ATK / 600 DEF

"When Inside Fade is Summoned, I can place one Kaleidocorpus Pendulum from my Deck in my Pendulum Zone," he continued, "and I choose my Kaleidocorpus Pendulum Gate!" A pillar of light rose up right next to him, with a gate made from stained glass rose up inside it.

Kaleidocorpus Pendulum Gate: Scale 0

"I will then place my Kaleidocorpus Moment Capture in my other Pendulum Zone!" The monster that rose up in the second light pillar was a clock shaped colorful glass container.

Kaleidocorpus Moment Capture: Scale 6

"Let me guess, you're Pendulum Summoning now?" Ava asked.

"Not quite. First off, I will activate the Pendulum effect of Moment Capture," Suito went on, "as its name suggests, it captures the current moment, taking note of my Life Point count in the form of counters. All I need to do is tribute my Inside Fade as a cost." The clock spun several times, until the number '4000' appeared on it.

Kaleidocorpus Moment Capture: 0 counters → 40 counters

"My next cad is a Spell called Kaleidoconjunction, which only works if my Pendulum Gate is in my Pendulum Zone and I haven't Special Summoned any monsters this turn yet. It allows me to reveal a Ritual Monster in my hand and then add two monsters with the same name from my deck to my hand, but I won't be able to Special Summon any monsters other than Ritual Monsters until the End Phase. And I do happen to have my Kaleidocorpus Eternal Shatter in my hand."

He showed the card to Ava, before two more copies of it slipped out of his Duel Disk.

"Now, for a Pendulum Summon," Suito continued, but Ava cut him off.

"You know that that's not possible under the effect of that nifty Spell Card you just played? All you can do is Ritual Summon."

"In a way," he replied, "but my Pendulum Gate is a special Pendulum. It can allows me to Pendulum Summon Ritual Monsters and treat those Summons as Ritual Summons, with the small cost of 1000 LP per monster."

A portal opened up between the two light pillars as he went on: "Swing, Pendulum, and open your gate for the purest of all monsters! Pendulum Ritual Summon, Level 4! Kaleidocorpus Eternal Shatter, three of it!" Three rays of light emerged from the portal, reforming into three conical stained glass containers made, multi-colored light pulsating inside them. After they settled on the field the energy combusted, cracking the glass before the monsters froze, trapped in that moment seconds before destruction.

Kaleidocorpus Eternal Shatter: LIGHT / Pyro / Ritual / Effect / Pendulum / Level 4 / 1000 ATK / 1000 DEF (3x)

Suito: 4000 LP → 1000 LP

"I think I can end my turn right there now," Suito said with a smirk, "what activates the effect of my Moment Capture. It removes all the counters from it in order to restrore my Life Points to the value it had taken note off."

Kaleidocorpus Moment Capture: 40 counters → 0 counters

Suito: 1000 LP → 4000 LP

"Then I'll take it from here," Ava said, before drawing her card. "I begin by activating a Field Spell Card: Midnight Serenade!" The area around them morphed into a quiet, idyllic park at night, a large full moon looming overhead.

"Pretty," Suito remarked, "what's it gonna do?"

"First of all, it will raise the Attack Points of all face-up DARK monsters by 300. I'll get to the rest in a minute, but first let me use my Spell Card Full Moon Bouquet," Ava explained, "while I control no monsters, I can Special Summon a Night Mare monster from my Deck. As the moon rises, the wolves howl, marking the beginning of the hunt. Night Mare Steed!"

Avas first monster was a large, majestic horse with pale black fur and mane. In the dark setting, it was nearly invisible, except for its eyes, which glowed as fervently as the moon overhead.

Night Mare Steed: DARK / Beast / Effect / Level 4 / 1900 ATK / 1500 DEF

Night Mare Steed: 1900 ATK → 2200 ATK

"Since a monster was just Summoned to your field," Suito interrupted her, "I can use the effect of Eternal Shatter. I can tribute one to half your monsters ATK, and then add the ATK of Eternal Shatter to my Life Points." Right on cue, the glass monster let out a shockwave, but instead of finally shattering, it just put itself back together before disappearing.

Night Mare Steed: 2200 ATK → 1100 ATK

Suito: 4000 LP → 5000 LP

"Also," Suito went on, "when one Eternal Shatter leaves the field, the ATK of all other Eternal Shatters on the field will be doubled until the End Phase."

Kaleidocorpus Eternal Shatter: 1000 ATK → 2000 ATK (2x)

"May I resume please?" Ava asked, "when a Moon Bouquet Spell Card has been activated, I can Set another Moon Bouquet from my Deck, but I won't be able to use it for this turn only. I choose my New Moon Bouquet."

"Next up," she continued, "I Normal Summon another Night Mare Steed!" A second horse galloped onto the field from the endless depths of the park surrounding them.

Night Mare Steed: DARK / Beast / Effect / Level 4 / 1900 ATK / 1500 DEF

Night Mare Steed: 1900 ATK → 2200 ATK

"I use the effect of my second Eternal Shatter. I tribute it, to half your monsters ATK, raise my Life Points and my remaining monsters ATK all within the same move," Suito said, as one of his two monsters again released a shockwave before disappearing.

Night Mare Steed: 2200 ATK → 1100 ATK

Suito: 5000 LP → 7000 LP

Kaleidocorpus Eternal Shatter: 2000 ATK → 4000 ATK

"It's neat you're using all your effects on my small horses. But before I'll address what an awful mistake that still proves to be, I'll first use my Quarter Moon Bouquet," Ava said, "it allows me, to destroy cards on your side of the field, up to the number of Night Mare monsters I control. Like your two Pendulum Scales."

As the moon overhead slowly faded, turning from a full into a quartered moon, the two glass creatures in the light columns over Suitos head burst into light particles.

"Now, as I have two Moon Bouquets with different names in my Graveyard, I can tribute two of my monsters in order to Summon a brand new one. A stronger one," Ava said, as the light in the park dimmed down, nearly obscuring her two monsters from sight, "The old moon starts to show her face, looking down onto its prey. Night Mare Unicorn."

A new monster stepped into the dim moonlight, another black horse with shining, silver eyes and a long silver horn on its forehead. It held its head up high, looking down on the rest of the scenery.

Night Mare Unicorn: DARK / Beast / Effect / Level 6 / 2500 ATK / 2200 DEF

Night Mare Unicorn: 2500 ATK → 2800 ATK

"Impressive," Suito said, "it looks majestic, regal, a real unicorn after all. Luckily, I still have my last Eternal Shatter to take it down a notch." His last glass monster disappeared in a shockwave.

Night Mare Unicorn: 2800 ATK → 1400 ATK

Suito: 7000 LP → 11000 LP

"Huh," Ava scoffed, "it will take some time to knock those Life Points down. But luckily, it's not an issue since I'm playing on time anyway."

"How delightfully boring. What are you gonna do, wait around until I defeat you?"

"I considered it. But if I defeat you, maybe I can do it with enough of a bang to knock you out cold, so you won't even see the sunrise."

"I'd like you to try."

"Oh I will," Ava said, "Unicorn, attack him directly!" The majestic creature charged at Suito, with its horn ready to impale him, but in the end it just knocked him to the ground.

Suito: 11000 LP → 9600 LP

"When my Unicorn inflicts damage," Ava went on, as Suito climbed back onto his feet, "I can bring back one of my Night Mare monsters from my Graveyard, just like my Night Mare Steed." The black horse galloped back onto her side of the field.

Night Mare Steed: DARK / Beast / Effect / Level 4 / 1900 ATK / 1500 DEF

Night Mare Steed: 1900 ATK → 2200 ATK

"When my Steed is Special Summoned, I can use it to raise the attack points of all other Beasts I control by 1000." The monster neighed, with the unicorn standing next to it joining in.

Night Mare Unicorn: 1400 ATK → 2400 ATK

"Now, Night Mare Steed, attack Suito directly as well!" The monster galloped over to Suito, before it turned around and kicked him into the chest.

Suito: 9600 LP → 7200 LP

"Now, whenever my Steed inflicts Battle Damage," Ava continued, "I can take a Spell Card from my Graveyard and put it back onto the field, like my Quarter Moon Bouquet."

"Are you done?" Suito asked, "because I'd like to have my turn now. I mean, in the end all your turn accomplished was to give me more Life Points. I don't think you know how this game is supposed to be played."

"You just don't see the bigger picture," Ava replied, "but by any means, go on."

"Alright, then I'll draw my card," he said, smiling widely upon the sight of it. "Oh poor woman. After all your failures that took you to this time and place, I shall enjoy reminding you that your biggest one is yourself."

"And what makes you think that my life is a string of failures?"

"Because your sister told me your story," Suito explained with glee, "a little girl who couldn't get the man she wanted, so her sister had to convince him to marry her out of pity. After said man tried to assault her sister and she killed him in retaliation, she was still adamant on bringing him using the power of the Crosspoints. Even though that obviously backfired as we are seeing today."

"How many other lies did that bitch tell you?" Ava replied, a tear running down her cheek.

"She didn't need to tell me anything. I've seen it. With my own eyes."

"What do you mean?"

"You may have the power to disguise yourself as someone else. Your sister has the power to show one visions of the past, the present, or the future, at her own desire."

"If she can show you visions of the future, that's not clairvoyance, its casting illusions. Illusions can be anything. She's lying, as she always lied, to everyone."

"That's your word against hers," Suito shrugged, "and between the both of you, only one is a cold blooded murderer of countless men and women with the Elder Blood."

"I'd mention that Eva also has quite the body count, but not like that's gonna matter to you. Go on, make your move."

"You'll be damned I do," Suito said as he picked a card out of this hand, "I set my Pendulum Scale with Kaleidocorpus Over Amalgam!" A pillar of light flared up next to him and inside of it a grotesque multi-colored glass figurine rose up. It had no clear shape or resemblance and once you thought you pinned your eyes on something to recognize it, it slowly morphed into a different shape, leaving one constantly bewildered staring at it.

Kaleidocorpus Over Amalgam: Scale 9

"Upon activation," Suito continued, "Over Amalgam allows me to pay 1000 Life Points in order to Set any other Pendulum Monster from my Extra Deck in my other Pendulum Zone. And I choose to reset my Pendulum Gate you so rudely destroyed." The stained glass gate rose up in a second column of light.

Kaleidocorpus Pendulum Gate: Scale 0

Suito: 7200 LP → 6200 LP

"Your plans have once again been foiled by the power of the Crosspoints. I'll fancy seeing it a second time."

"So that's what you drew," Ava asked curiously, "your Crosspoint-powered monster. A Ritual, if I guess correctly."

"You do. Pendulum Gate, swing my Pendulum of Destiny! From between the dimensions, beyond human understanding, descend, the fairest monster of them all! Ritual Pendulum Summon! Level 8, Yellow Cross – Angel!" A ray of light emerged from the portal that had opened between the two pillars, forming into a monster with a conical body and two large wings, all made of various colors of stained glass. Right above its 'body' floated a crown with six gems sitting on top of it, each in the different colors of the Crosspoints, red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange.

Yellow Cross – Angel: LIGHT / Fairy / Ritual / Effect / Level 8 / 2800 ATK / 2800 DEF

Suito: 6200 LP → 5200 LP

"That doesn't look that threatening. One dent and it all just breaks apart," Ava remarked, with Suito quickly rebuffing her.

"You'd be the first one to put a dent in it," he said, "Once Angel is Special Summoned, it immediately removes all monsters on the field from play. Only Ritual Monsters are safe from that. After that, it's power will rise by 500 for each monster banished by this effect."

The monster spread its wings, as rainbow hues wrapped around Avas two monsters, obscuring them from view until they vanished into thin air.

Yellow Cross – Angel: 2800 ATK → 3800 ATK

"Angel," Suito continued, "attack this insolent woman directly. Crosspoint Shatter!" The glass creature fired a cascade of glass shards from its wings, with enough force to knock Ava off her feet.

Ava: 4000 LP → 200 LP

"Whenever my opponent takes damage," Suito continued, as tiny shards of glass rained on him like sparks, "my Angel raises my Life Points by the amount of damage taken."

Suito: 5200 LP → 9000 LP

"Enjoy your next turn, because it will be your last," Suito said, before passing the torch to Ava, who just managed to climb back to her feet.

"Oh it will be," Ava said as she drew her card, "but you will not get any after this. I activate my Spell Card Crescent Moon Bouquet!" The moon above them again morphed, only a small slice of light remaining.

"Upon activation, this Moon Bouquets allows me to bring back two of my Night Mare monsters that are either banished or in the Graveyard. And I shall bring back both monster you banished last turn, Night Mare Unicorn and Night Mare Steed!" Guided by the shadow in the night, the two monsters slowly walked back onto the field as if the events of the last turn had never taken place.

Night Mare Steed: DARK / Beast / Effect / Level 4 / 1900 ATK / 1500 DEF

Night Mare Steed: 1900 ATK → 2200 ATK

Night Mare Unicorn: DARK / Beast / Effect / Level 6 / 2500 ATK / 2200 DEF

Night Mare Unicorn: 2500 ATK → 2800 ATK

"Now, since there are two Moon Bouquets in my Graveyard again, I shall use the effect of my Midnight Serenade: I tribute both my monsters in order to Summon a new Night Mare Unicorn from my Deck!" Both monsters disappeared into the night, after which a new one, a copy of one of the tributes, emerged back onto the field.

Night Mare Unicorn: DARK / Beast / Effect / Level 6 / 2500 ATK / 2200 DEF

Night Mare Unicorn: 2500 ATK → 2800 ATK

"Is this going anywhere," Suito asked, "or are you just playing loops to win some time?"

"Both, actually," Ava continued, "I activate the Quarter Moon Bouquet I recently added back to my hand. And I use it to remove your Angel from the field."

"Oh, no you don't."

The Angel did burst into light particles for a split second, only to put itself back together, with Suito just laughing at Avas dumbfounded face.

"You see," he explained, "all that I need to do to stop my monster from being destroyed is to banish any monster from my Extra Deck."

He picked a card from his Extra Deck and showed it to her: "And I doubt that I'll need Kaminari Attack anytime soon, truth be told."

"So your monster effectively has 15 lives, plus however many Pendulum Monsters you can put into your Extra Deck?"

"Pretty much, yes. Can you do that many instances of damage?"

"No," Ava blatantly admitted, "not that I have to. You see, the only reason I did this was to put a third Moon Bouquet in my Grave to get access to the next effect of Midnight Serenade. Which allows me to once per turn Special Summon a brand new monster from anywhere I please."

"Oh dear lord, not another Equidae," Suito sighed, but Ava continued unfazed.

"The moon lies shallow, smiling down knowingly at its children. Take flight, Night Mare Pegasus." The arrival of her monster was heralded by the sound of flapping wings, before it descended into the small area lit by moonlight. It was a black horse, just like Avas other monsters, with a pointy horn on its head and two large black-feathered wings spanning from its sights. It nighed majestically before settling next to its mistress.

Night Mare Pegasus: DARK / Beast / Effect / Level 8 / 3000 ATK / 2500 DEF

Night Mare Pegasus: 3000 ATK → 3300 ATK

"Upon its Summon," Ava went on, "Night Mare Pegasus calls its fellow beasts upon the battlefield to aid it in the final strike. Be revived, Night Mare Unicorn, and two times Night Mare Steed!" Three more horses slowly stepped into the moonlight, one equipped with a horn on its forehead.

Night Mare Unicorn: DARK / Beast / Effect / Level 6 / 2500 ATK / 2200 DEF

Night Mare Unicorn: 2500 ATK → 2800 ATK

Night Mare Steed: DARK / Beast / Effect / Level 4 / 1900 ATK / 1500 DEF (2x)

Night Mare Steed: 1900 ATK → 2200 ATK (2x)

"And as you remember, if my Nightmare Steed is Special Summoned, it will raise the attack of my other monsters by a 1000 points each!"

Night Mare Pegasus: 3300 ATK → 4300 ATK → 5300 ATK

Night Mare Unicorn: 2800 ATK → 3800 ATK → 4800 ATK (2x)

Night Mare Steed: 2200 ATK → 3200 ATK (2x)

"Impressive," Suito admitted, "but not enough. My monster has still 19 lives left. And this doesn't even do nearly as much damage to get rid of me for good."

"You better go to sleep," Ava continued, earning herself a confused look from Suito, "there is no moon tonight. I activate New Moon Bouquet."

And with those words, the moon in the sky vanished, the last light in the park being what Suitos monster emitted.

"Under the new moon, my monsters will bypass every other monster and instead attack you directly."

If it was possible to look pale under this lighting, Suito certainly did. He tried to utter out a sentence but Ava quickly shut him up by declaring her first attack: "Pegasus, attack this heathen directly!"

The winged monster dashed forward, hitting the man with its horn and knocking him to the ground.

Suito: 9000 LP → 3700 LP

"Oh how the tables have turned," Ava gloated, but before she could deal her final strike, something else caught the eye of both duelists.

The park had gained a new light source, as the blue, green, red and orange lights that were trapped inside Tians lantern blinked into existence.

"Tian!" Suito yelled, returning back to full confidence as fast as it took him to fall from it, "give me the Crosspoints! I need them to defeat this vile woman!"

Tian, however, wasn't paying attention, instead staring at Ava like he had seen a ghost.

The woman reacted similarly, staring blankly at the man with the lantern, tears running from her eyes.

"This cannot be," she eventually said, sobbing, "I buried you."

"A millennium ago," Tian replied somberly, "and yet here we stand."

He stepped closer to her, before placing a hand on her cheek to wipe the tears away: "Don't cry. We're both remnants of the past. Mourning doesn't suit us."

"You're not really him, are you?" Ava asked, still teary eyed, "you look like him, you sound like him, you talk like him but you cannot be my Oru."

"I am," he replied, "but at the same time, I am not."

"You're her creation. Did she make you in her image? To have at least one person alive who loves her?"

"Yes, and no," Suito intervened, almost agitated at the sight of his distressed enemy, "back when there was only me and Eva, no Alessia and Carter, no Tian, we realized that we couldn't do all on our own. We knew we needed an aid. The blue Crosspoint was the first we claimed, and Eva used its raw power alongside her own to create a physical manifestation of it. Some sort of a body."

"I'm a memory. A fond one, but a memory," Tian cut him off, "So yes. I'm her creation."

"And you hold all the Crosspoints," Ava noted, "what are you gonna do with them? Herald the end of the world or help me save it?"

"Maybe there is no difference between destroying the world and saving it," Tian went on, "besides. You, me, your sister. We'll all cease to exist by sunrise. Why are you here, wasting your time on such fruitless pursuits as preventing the end?"

"I have nowhere else to be."

"We all have a purpose left in this world. That's why were still tethered to it."

"And what is yours?"

"To do this," Tian said, before opening the small door on his lantern, letting the Crosspoints escape and fly towards Suito.

"The convergence is destined. You cannot change destiny my love."

"That doesn't mean I cannot try. I haven't lost this game yet and he doesn't have that much time."

"Neither do you. You are needed elsewhere, to fulfill the final task that still keeps you trapped in this world."

"So tell me," she sobbed, as the blue Crosspoint was about to leave the lantern.

"I will not only tell you," he said, before placing a soft kiss on her lips, "I shall guide you there. One last goodbye, my love. I see you when you are done."

With those words both of them vanished in blue light, causing the park scenery to vanish and the cathedral around them to reappear. A lone blue butterfly was all that remained from the two of them, nervously fluttering around until it escaped through an open window.

Suito: 3700 LP [ERROR]

"What happened," Yuito asked, as the black sphere disappeared that kept him and the duelists apart.

"Tian swept Ava away," his father answered, "even in death, he is still the most valuable asset of our group."

"Now, my son," he continued, as he approached Yuito, "the time has finally come. All the six Crosspoints have been gathered, and the convergence has barely arrived. Are you ready, for the final battle?"

Yuitos eyes darted towards the door, to see if there was some semblance of a choice for him, but to his dismay, he could see that the both of them were already enveloped by a rainbow-colored forcefield.

"I'm ready," he instead said, starting up his Duel Disk.

"And so it shall begin," Suito declared, "father and son, fighting the last fight as the Crosspoints command and the victor will shape this world in his image."

The force field around them fully manifested, trapping them inside and beginning the last Contest of Champions, and maybe the end of the world.

Suito: 4000 LP

Yuito: 4000 LP
