Chapter 35

What will happen tomorrow? Was all that Nala could think. She left so lost listening in on the conversation between her pridemothers and aunties. Whenever she tried to make her way into the circle to get a better understanding, she was blocked out.

"Ugh…" frustrated and too hot to care at this point, Nala left for the coolness inside of the den.

"This still is too soon, do you think we can do this?"voice one lioness.

"The time is now or never, and besides Scar will be done. The word is from a foolish hyena that he is leaving tomorrow to visit the mountain pride." Voiced Sarabi.

"The mountain pride? Well if that's the cause, he will likely be gone the entire day." Voiced Sarafina.

"Exactly, it will be the perfect time to take back priderock."

"But are you sure. Can you really truth the words of a hyena?"

"The fool always tells the truth. I know he's not lying."

"So when Scars leaves then what? What will we do?"

"I want to retake priderock with as little bloodshed as possible."

"Please, Those hyenas live for that Sarabi."

"I know, but not all of them." The queen could still see the look of concern on their faces. She understood why. " we will do what we must. But if some are willing to step down, we wont need extra confrontation."

"What about Zira? And her lioness. They won't just let this happen lying down."

"We outnumber them. They wont choose death if they can avoid it-" a roar was heard from the distance. Calling for the lioness hunting party. Great to hunt in this heat at this hour? "We will finish this when we get back." All agreed and slowly made them way to priderock.

"You okay?" The red eyed lioness turned to see blue eyes looking at her.

"Sara? Yes I am. I'm going to check on Kopa before I leave. I'll be right behind you." Sara nodded, and left her friend to her business.

When Sarabi entered the cave she saw Nala playing with Kopa. His little waddles becoming stronger and stronger each day.

"Soon, he'll be walking soon. And you'll really have a fun time watching him."

"Yea, he gets bigger everyday. It's amazing." The young adolescents sat up. Leaving the little Kopa preoccupied chewing at his own tail. "Sarabi, what's going on. What's happening?" Nala heard a sigh leave her throat…she didn't want to get her involved. "You promised to tell me things, remember?"

"Yes, I do." She quickly took a sit next to her companion. " tomorrow we plan to retake priderock."

"W-what…like…like an actual take over?" Sarabi nodded. "With, actual fighting?"

"Yes, it'll be a war zone."

"I want to help! Tell me what I can do- and don't just say nothing."

"Okay, I won't" Sarabi didn't say much after that. Nala was pissed.

"Sarabi… are you serious?! You guys are going to risk your lives and you want me to stay here and do nothing, no way!"

"You won't be staying here. You and Kopa will be the far away from priderock while this is happening."

"But- but that's not fair! I-"

"I didn't come to tell you what was fair, I came to tell you what would be happening and what I want from you while we are gone. Tomorrow you will take Kopa to a safe outskirts of the territory. you will stay there until one of us comes to get you. And we will only come to get you if we feel it is safe."

"…what if you don't come and get me?"

"That won't happen." Sarabi made sure to assure her of this. Despite the concerned look in her eyes. She feared for them after all. They were her family, the only things she had in this world. Nala still felt sick to her stomach whenever she thought about Amir. If something like that happened to her own mother…Nala couldn't even get herself to think that way. It was too painful

"No!…don't do this. Please! don't…if something happens to you…or my mom…or to one of us again….i don't think I can- "

"Nothing, will happen."

"You don't know that!" Her retort was loud, and shaky. Like the tears that fell from her cheeks. "…everything fine the way it is…we…we don't need to do this."

Like she suspected, something like this would be too much for her to handle. At least, right now. "Nala you have to understand, we need to do this. You know we can't keep living like this."

"I..i…know but, I don't want to lose anyone. I already feel alone."

"I know. Nala, can I ask you can i ask you something?"

"Yes."

"If anything where to happen, I want you to watch over Kopa. I know how close you are to him."

"Of course I will, he's practically my little brother."she noted looking at him. "I'll protect him, I promise."

"Thank you." Sarabi gave both a quick nuzzle, before turning to leave to rejoin the hunting party. "Sarabi wait…can you promise me something?"

"Yes, what is it?" Nala shifted weight uneasily between her paws. It was hard to get the words out, because what she was thinking….of what could happen, destroyed her.

"Promise me everything will be okay." Nervousness filled her now soft spoken spoke. "Promise me." The queen said, nothing but nodded her head. How could she promise something she truly had no control over.

"We'll be back soon. Be careful while we are gone."

He came into her view, lingering. Like he had all the time in the world. As soon as she came into his view, the young lion mentally rolled his eyes. He could already see- no feel the look of annoying beaming from his mother.

"You're late Nuka."

"I was busy when you called."

"That was hours ago!" She practically spat in his direction. She had sent Saada after him hours ago, so he could watch Shitani for her. Zira had been waiting rather impatiently for him to return.

" I was Tra-"

"I don't care. All you've done is waste my time." Nuka rolled his eyes.

"Look, I'm here now. So why don't you go find dad, or whatever it is you want to do." He flopped to the floor, with little to no effort of trying to me graceful. Dust spaced around his body, from the area where he normally sat. "I'll watch the little furball for you."

"You need to get your act together or else." There she went with another threat. What was the reason this time? Nuka swears his mother has gone mad since Vitani had left. He didn't know if she was feeling regret or what, but she was getting on his damn nerves. Hell, he thought his mother didn't care about the matter. Now she's all hell bent on seeing her Pericous daughter, who she let get sent away.

"Whatever mom."

" do you think I'm playing with you Nuka? I'm serious! I don't know what this attitude of your is, but it needs to change. I see you, walking around with your head held high like you own the place. You own nothing! You deserve nothing!" What the hell was her problem?! Nuka was used to getting the cold shoulder from his father, but certainly not from his mother. She had always been the one in his back corner. Now she's gone and changed- it started to feel like he didn't know her anymore.

"Like I said, whatever mom-"

"Fine by me, that's all you can say. You're just like your father In every way. You're just filled with all of his unwanted and unfavorable characteristics…I can't believe it took me this long to see it." She had backed tracked now, returning back into the center of the den face him. " just look at you, you think gaining a little muscle will make everything change. You think he'll see you any different- well he won't. And you are a fool to think he would! You have no goal, no admission, no drive and what has happened to this family is your fault!"

"What the hell are you talking about mom- you're going crazy."

"No, I finally see things for what they are, and why they are…" her voice was filled with something…sorrow…regret? Feelings Nuka didn't think his mother was capable of. "Hmp…it's only a matter of time before he chooses another." Nuka had gotten up from his floor position.

"What the hell are you talking about another? I'm his true born son. There is no other. I don't know what the hell is wrong with you mom but you need to get it together-"

"I did keep it together for you both, for years from the lies and the pain ! and I'm tried of it! I know you're not the smartest lion around Nuka but I didn't think you were that dumb."

"..a…are you saying dad has another cub? A son?!" Nuka desperately scanned his mother face for the answer, the true answer. But he stone cold expression gave away noting but anger. Which was the only answer he needed. " You're lying- with who?!"

"Does it matter-"

"Yes it does! How long have you known this?! Why did you let this happen!"

"ME?!" A wide paw stuck him across the face. Shocking his system.

"ArgH!!" He didn't realize his mother could give such a powerful blow. As she staggered back, tasting and feeling the blood ooze from his upper jaw. He held his cheek tightly "m…Mom?!"

"How dare you blame me for allowing this to happen it was ALL you! You were his only son, his only hope for a mighty empire and you, Nuka failed him! I did my part, my only fault is that I gave him a son that was unworthy of his father love and legacy! I told you to stop being so soft! So weak!...and now you think these few months have changed anything?! NO…it was too late! And I cruse myself for not giving him another son!"

The brown lion stood in place, uttered crushed and speechless by his mothers words. That had to be false that just had to be.

"…y-you're lying…"

"To hell I wish I was Nuka!"

"No I don't believe you. You're a fucking liar mom. Dad wouldn't do that, and if he did he wouldn't tell you-"

"Idiot! Your father doesn't need to tell me. I just known. That look that he has in his eyes tells me…it tells me everything, because we use to give him that look!" The intense roaring between the mother and son, caused Shitani to wake up. "Great! Ugh, why don't you just leave."

"Mom?"

"I said leave, I don't want you here!" His body did what his mind told him not to do. His mind felt like that experience that just happened was too surreal. It couldn't have happened…

Nuka lingered by the entryway to the den. His mother was closely hurt by his father cheating… that Nuka could understand. His father was King he could do and have whatever, or whoever he wanted.

But a son…another son who he could give his legacy to. Impossible, Nuka would be damned if he allowed that you happen. He has changed, and he's gotten better, stronger! He didn't have drive? Ambition? Dammit he could go out and find it.

He would take what was naturally his.

She walked aimlessly in the hot air. The sun was beginning its descend to the ground below, but the heat that came from it was still very strong. It was overbearing. But that didn't matter as Nala walked mindlessly on end.

After the hunting party had left, Nala found herself becoming extremely uneasy. She hoped walking would clear her mind…ease her racing heart.

"Everything will be fine, everything will be fine. In fact you're probably dreaming this moment right now." This was something she had continue to tell herself over and over again. She was dreaming no not dreaming, having a nightmare.

If that were the case then This would have to be the most stressful dream she'd ever had. "Don't be dumb Nala, you know this has to happen. Life right now is terrible. It can't get any worse. Huh?" In the far distance, down near the rim of the waterhole. Was a very familiar looking lion. Nala wondered if he still had the mark on his cheek. Simba.

She stopped walking and moved back. This was the frist time she had seen him snice that day. She still felt sick to her stomach about it. What he said, what she did. How hurt Sarabi look. The whole ordeal was just upsetting and all she wanted to do was see him again.

She just didn't think it would be like that. She wanted to stay mad at him forever, but inside she knew she couldn't. Thinking about it, the situation had to have been for stressful and overwhelming to Simba than to her.

So that sudden attitude change, really wasn't that sudden.

"…should I tell him?" She continued to watch him. Worried what would happen if he did see her. What if he was still mad? And hated her? Then her telling him about the priderock takeover would be for nothing! "..no..i can't- but something could happen. He needs to know." And not just know. He could help, and be a very big help to the lionesses when it comes to facing the hyenas. If they had simba on their side there would be no way they could lose. He would be the biggest and strongest lion. They couldn't mess with him. "I have to tell him. Sim-" it was the call of the lionesses. They were finally back. By the time Nala stepped out of the thicket into the clearing so she could see Simba he was already gone. "Ugh, great."

She slowly turned back to the path she came from to return back to priderock.

The king watched them from the distance. The sun setting in on their back. The view looked particularly good on one lioness who walked ahead of the other. She held the preys neck in her tight jaws. He went down the grip them at the platform.

"Well well well, you've finally returned. What do we have today?" She tossed the limp ,meal to him.

"Wildebeest. Here." She voice dry. Mainly due to the fact that she was extremely tried. The lionesses quickly turned to leave they knew they wouldn't get any decent leftovers. They would have to try hunting again later for themselves.

"It looks rather, odd. Don't you think?"

"Huh?" Sarabi turned with an unimpressed expression. After all she did have a takeover to plan tonight. The lioness needed all the rest and sleep she could get. "Whats wrong with it?"

"Look at it, would you eat it?" Sarabi furrowed her brows. What was he talking about the creature was dead. Nothing looks good dead.

" It looks fine to me Scar."

"It's skinny." Well that would happen when there is no food for the herds to eat. "What took you all so long."

"We had to go on near the edge of the border again, that's why. We have to go."

"Why don't you all stay and have dinner with me. Zira is being a pain to me really." Sarabi nor the others said anything they continue to walk away. This was their norm. Work hard, surrender your hard work, and then force yourself to work even harder for the same small meal later. "Well that's a shame. Whatever the matter do tell my son his father said hi."

That alone ran a cold shudder down her spine. He always had a way to getting under her fur. But she had to let it go, she had to. Tomorrow would it be. The blood that will be shed will be worth it.
