Chapter 37

Before the mattered fur dog could turn to leave, he felt the unfortunate feeling of brute strength and sharp nails dive into his windpipe.

He was howling no more. That was the 7th hyena Sarabi had killed that day. But you could argue she had killed more, by the way she and all the other lionesses of the pridelands looked. Their fur was wet spotted with blood and their fur glistened with sweat.

Each and everyone one of them where working as a well made, calculated machine. A killing party. Slowly cutting the numbers of Scars pack one by one.

"…h…how many was that for you?" She had asked the lioness that stood a few feet away from her. As she dropped a dead body to the ground.

"My fifth…" vocied Sharra

"..right." She stood there, heavy breathing. Sarabi looked into the near distance. Wondering about eh fate of her pridesister. They had split into 3 groups of 2 lionesses.

The plan Sarabi had come up with as to travel in groups of two. Yes their numbers were small, but it was the small size that would help them sneak up, undetected to their unknown victims.

"…it's past noon now…we should be meeting up with the others Sarabi."

"..i…know." The queen mother looked up to the basking sun, the day was hot and the heat was relentless. Her tired eyes slowly seeing the vague figure of the majestic priderock from in the distance. They still had much work to do. "Let's head to the meet up location."

"Right."

By the time Sarabi and her sister got to the large, misshaped tree. The stood as the half way mark to priderock, Two other lionesses were there sitting under the tree. Sarafina and Koni. She the two resting lioness saw the approaching pair they quickly got up to greet them.

"Are you two alright?" Voiced Sarafina with some concern.

"We're alright… and you two?"

"We're surviving so far. But I can't say it's been easy. Those dogs are more powerful than they look."

"I know." Sarabi retorted, looking at the two lionesses bodies whom cuts and bruises that matched her own. "But it's almost over, I can fee it." Sarabi eyes then looked in both direction, obviously looking for someone. " where is Elsa? And Mae?"

"They went to the western broader. I should be here soon, but I know they were farther away from the meeting point. I know they said if they were late to the meet up to go on without them. They would catch up soon."

"I know. I don't want to go on without."

"But we have to make sure we don't run out of time."

"Those dogs are going anywhere." Voiced Sara.

"Yes, but the ones we haven't gotten to yet are resting. We've been at this all morning Sara…" the blue eyed lioness couldn't object to that. And they couldn't lie and say all this fighting hadn't taken a toll on them physically.

None of the lionesses were in their fit hunting condition, so it was only a matter of time before their body gave into fatigue.

"We'll keep moving. They said they will catch up. We have to believe them. We keep going."

"Okay."

The four lionesses stalked their way into the heart of the pridelands now. Eyes and ears twitching in each and every direction, of a sound or movement. Hunting prey wasn't easy. However, sometimes, if they were lucky their prey would find their way to them.

"Hey! I'm getting hungry. We need to go those lionesses to go get some food for us- after all we are the boss now!" They heard a large voice come from within the tall grasses in front of them. And then they heard a second.

"Hell yea! I'm with you on that." A few seconds after the second voice was heard, three spotted dogs came walking into view. The lionesses paused before them. Two of the three dogs were too busy chatting it up, obvious to the four blood and cut covered lionesses before them. One dog, was not so busy in the conversation to realize.

"Hey! What the hell is going on with you four?!" His loud question went unanswered.

"Yea what the hell did you guys get yourself into, some hunting gone wrong haha!" The fools still oblivious. Too busy in the mockery of the lionesses to even care about their own fate.

In unison, a low almost unable growls vibrated from the lionesses throat. Their ears pinned and heads low. "Get them."

"Hey?!what the-" before the three could realize what was happening. The lionesses were already on them. Sarabi stood back and watched as an eagle eye to the on-going slaughter.

The dogs snapped and bite at any extremities. Tails, paws, fur and ears weren't off limits and the lionesses knew they couldn't allow anyone of the dogs to get a good hold on them. If they did, it would be over for them. The bite of a mad hyena was beyond deadly.

The last dog left fighting, was ending by a swift bite to the throat. Three more down, and it seemed like countless more to go. But everyone was alright. They were panting and tried, but everyone was still alright. They could do this.

Sudden the flash of brown and gray fur went flying through the tall grass. " there's one in the grass!" Voiced Sara.

"We have to go after him now!" Sarabi jumped the great distance and lead the way behind the fleeing down. The sounds of the dogs whooping cry, sent a panic down her spine. He was warning the other. "Dammit! We have to go hurry! Hurry!" They followed the echoing cry closer to the area of priderock.

There she could see…she could see him! He was only a few hit away! The dogs feet were moving at an alarming pace. Each second felt like he was moving farther and farther away from the hunting party. Those damn dogs. They were so fast…

Sarabi saw as the dog broke though the tall grass and into a flat area, perfect! That was exactly what they needed, they could easily catch up with the hyenas with no other surrounding blocking their way. Sarabi broke though the tall grass after the hyena. Her pridesisters following right behind.

Her lungs burned and body ached, she could still see him..taste the blood in her mouth. That hyena was her. Until it wasn't. The panicking dog ran right passed his unbeknown savior. An organ roaming lion, who happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Sarabi stopped dead in her tracks.

"…m-mom?.." his red eyes matching her own. Large orbs mixed with great disbelief and confusion.

"…simba…"

When a bird flew by she flinched, when a wild rabbit darted across the dry ground, she panicked. But it was a good panic,Nala was watching over her helpless family member in a complete state of alertness. It had seemed like hours had gone by and still…no one had returned.

She waited and waited patiently for her family to return to her. Although the Same could not be said for the cub chewing at her tail feverishly.

"Kopa…" for a very rare moment, Nala took her attention off of surveillance to tend to a needy Kopa. Who was becoming hungry and antsy. He chewed at her nose and upper lip as she nuzzled him. " Sarabi will be back soon…" unfortunately her doting words for promise meant nothing to a hungry cub. And a hungry cub was a dangerous one.

Kopa's small bite and suckles on Nala tail soon turned to small crying. "Shhh…no no." Nala quickly removed herself Kopa presence. When the little ball of fluff couldn't see her her eyes sight, he instinctively became quiet. But who knew how long that would last.

"I know you're hungry…but there's nothing I can do…" her blue eyes went looking around hopelessly trying to find something. "If I Stay away from him he's quiet…but that won't last for forever. Where is everyone… they should be back by now. Mom? Sarabi where are you?"

Nala hopeless words would only be heard by herself. And could only be consoled by…herself. She was alone with nothing, and could depend on one no. But she knew she had to think of something and quick.

Nala unwillingly to move from their hiding place. Her only place for secure shelter. " Maybe someone's at the side den…it's been hours now…they have to be near done? Ugh…but I can't leave Kopa dammit what do I do?"

Nala looked to the now sleeping Kopa, who she knew wouldn't be sleep for long. And far off into the heat hazed distance of where her home was. Where she knew she could - by some lucky chance run into one of her pridemothers who could help the little hungry Kopa in a way that she just couldn't. She weighted her options. The pro's and the cons. Something that she believe she could easily slove. And in the end would be better for Kopa.

It had been hours snice his last feeding the night before. He had to have something, or else the poor cub woudl cry himself innot sickness.

"…I'll be right back Kopa I promise. Just stay sleep, big sister Nala will be right back." So she quickly turned and made her back home.

The visions of the Scenery before him become more blurry as he continued to walk. He refuses to stop, his head kept telling him, he mustn't look weak, he mustn't act weak. Even if it did hurt, or even if he killed him. Right now Scar felt like death.

His head rocked back and forth, swaying in the motion of his walking. The rest of his party stayed walking behind, so they couldn't see the uncharacteristic lazy and almost stupor liked swaying when he walked.

This throat hang dry, so dry it was to the point where he found himself choking from the dryness.

Dammit scar, what's wrong with you!

"…huh??…" the voice rang from the back of his right here.

He's always sick with something!

"W-what?..." this time it rang from his left. Scar turned in head in each possible direction. Someone was there-right beside him!

He's strong enough!

No...Scar thought. He was backed... back to give him hell, all over again! That voice...his voice that he hated even more than Mufasa. The cause of WHY he hated Mufasa to begin with.

"F-father?!" The brown lion stopped in his tracks. His green eyes darted in each and everything direction on the voice. His voice… sweat ran like a river down his forehead. "Father…it that you- I know it! You-you've come back to stop me….t-t…to give my brother back..h-his throne…well jokes on you!...it's too late…i…I've already gotten rid of him!"

"Scar?" The lionesses behind him approached her mate slowly."Scar what are you talking about…who are you talking to?" It wasn't like Zira never found Scar talking to himself every now in then. He always said he couldn't trust anyone else's judgment but himself. So he frequently consulted with himself.

"H-he's mad at me ..z..Zira, but the j…joke on him!"

"Him? Him who?-" she was star struck for a moment, when she say her mates face. He looked half made up…or sloppy even. The seat beading down his face ran down his drenched fur like a river. His normally sharp and alert eye…flung around lazily in his head. His focus seemed to…not there. His tongue hung, unkept out the side of his mouth. It was dry and cracked. "Sca-" before she could get her words out Scar collapsed. "Scar?! Scar?!"

Before Zira couldn't think the party of 10 hyenas were already at their fallen kings side.

"Boss?!...Boss are you okay?!" Voiced Onzi.

"Scar…please….look at me." When he brown lion did…or rather when he tried. His eyes almost rolled to the back of his head. "…TAKE HIM BACL-TAKE HIM BACK NOW!!"

"But-but the boss said-"

"I don't care what he said, can't you see somethings wrong! We have to take him back now!"

The dogs, not thinking- quickly listened to their queens order. Gathered the fallen king and plopping his limp body onto their backs.

"Come on! Hurry we need to get him back to priderock!" Onzi barked the orders "Hurry up!! We can still make it back before dark, let's go!"

The golden lion looked at his mother and the three pridesisters that soon joined her. They were covered in sweat and blood. Claws still unleashed from their paws. They were on the hunt…a killing hunt. What was going on?

"…mom what's going on?" He asked, but his question went unanswered. As the mother too stood frozen like her son. She hadn't planned thus, but she knew she should have…she just…couldn't get herself to do so. She knew it would kill her to do so. "Whats going on-"

"A take over, that's whats going on!" Koni, growing more and more nervous as the whooping dogs cried went unchecked. By this time he would have made it to pride rock! "We're taking over Simba and we need your help."

"..w…what?" Simba stepped back. "..no."

"It's true Simba." This time it was Sarafina who spoke up. It was in a calmer tone than Koni, but still carried the same urgency. " we have to do this…" she warned stepping forward, trying to ease their way back into their hunt.

"…n…no" was all he could say, what did they mean they had to do this? Were they all crazy, did they all have a death wish. Once Scar found out about this….it would be the end of them… the end of them all! "You have to stop this!"

"No simba we can't! We have to fight this! We have to fight him-look at what he's done to our home!" Simba knew very well of what she spoke of. Simba was no fool. He could see it plain as day- see it plain as day..but….they couldn't do this. They didn't know Scar like he did…they didn't know the evils he would do to them once he found out- but Simba knew…he knew all too well.

"No! Stop this now-"

"We can't! It's now or never…" Sarafina quickly looked to her queen to see if she would do anything…say anything. She was still frozen. "….Sarabi-"

"We don't have time for this!" Voiced Koni stepping forward. "The more we waste time with him the more our chances of getting our kingdom back will slip away!" Koni then took off, with Sharra right behind them. However they are quickly stopped by the larger and more powerful male simba, who truly thought he was going the right thing for them.

Simba tackled Koni to the ground, Sharra quickly stopped in her tracks as the two lions behind fighting.

"Koni no!" Sarafina raced forward to Sharra side, hopelessly looking on. Pausing on what to do next- they had to help their pridesister….but they couldn't harm their prince. "Stop it! No!" Please went on deaf ears, as fur and claws went flying. Everything stopped when the echoing of a body smacked into the ground hard.

Koni was easily pinned by the much fitter, and stronger Simba. An aggressive growl echoed deeply from the back of his throat. It was over.the larger male extended and even larger paw, with claws extended. He would stop them, he would save them- all of them. Simba swung his paw down.

"Simba no!...Kon-" before the two lionesses could get there last words out. Simba was tackled to the ground. "…w…what…Sa.."

Sarabi stood between her son and her pridesister. Baring her teeth at the lion she called her son. Sarafina and Sharra ran to Koni side. She was battered and bruised…but alive and okay.

"Alright you alright Koni?"

"..y..yes ma'am." Sarabi talked but she never took her eyes off her simba who was looking at her in disbelief. More than just disbelief, it was like he was staring at a lioness he had never seen before.

"Good, keep going."

"B-but what about you?" Voiced Sarafina, Sarabi could hear hear the worry in her best friends voice.but she had to ignore it.

"I'll be fine, get going."

"But-"

"I said get going! I'll handle Simba." The three lionesses fought the urge to stay by their queens side and help her in what would be, the fight of her life. But she gave an order, and they knew they had to follow it. Reluctantly they left. Knowing now, that they really had little to no time to waste. Sarafina gave the orders.

"Lionesses let go!" And then they were gone. Leaving the pridelands queen and prince in an unbearable standstill for the fate of the kingdom.
