Chapter 40
Scars party returned a few hours later. The skies were dark and that once hot weather was now turning brutally cold. To say they were in utter shock of what they had returned to, would be an understatement. As soon as they reached the outside of priderock, Nuka was there to greet them. He informed them of everything that had happened while they was gone. Although it wasn't hard from them to put two and two together.
The thought of the lionesses trying to over throw their king Scar…why that was outrageous!
"Prince Nuka are you okay, maybe you should rest-" Jama stated.
"I'm fine, in fact I've never felt better, the real question is how is father doing?" Everyone who was important gathered in the now cleared royal den. Once his father party had returned, Nuka had the hyenas surround the lionesses and lead them outside. There they would await their fate.
Jama spoke slowly " I don't know… it hasn't seemed to change much-"
"WERE IS THAT DAMN MONKEY!? SOMEONE GO GET HIM NOW!!" Zira wailed loudly, as she refused to leave Scars side.
"I've sent number members after him. He's no where to be found mother-"
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE'S NO WHERE TO BE FOUND…HIS JOB IS TO WORK FOR US AT OUR BECKONING CALL!!" Zira tone was hash. A mixture of grief an anger, as she nuzzled her fallen Scar. It was hard to imagine but the brown lion was turning pale.
Each second he seemed to be losing his color. Getting weaker and weaker by the second. Zira was losing him, and she was devastated. She didn't even care about Shia and wether or not she survived the horrible onslaught.
All she could cared about was Scar. Without him she was nobody, she had nothing.
"Jama take my mother out a-"
"NO, I WILL NOT LEAVE YOUR FATHER!" The Drama of lionesses grieving, Nuka could not understand. He watched his mother as if he was looking at her though a distance lens.
"You need to get it together, for his sake. You wailing won't help him. And quiet frankly its giving me a headache…"
"Why you…. LOOK AT WHAT THEY DID TO YOUR FATHER! DO YOU NOT CARE AT ALL?!" She roared at him, practically spiting in his face. Nuka didn't wavier in his collected state…or rather his emotionless state.
"I do care, but I know father wouldn't want to see you like this. Crying…asking the kings to help him. It would make him sick, it would upset him." Zira along with the others still in the room found themselves looking oddly at Nuka. His mannerisms, his character had changed. Who was this…no nonsense lion before them. Were did he come from? "What father would want is revenge. And that is exactly what I am going to give me."
"..w..what do you mean?"
"Exactly what I said, we will get revenge for father. No one attacks the royal family and gets away with it. Onzi, come here." Scars top leading dog jumped at the sound of his name.
"Yes prince Nuka."
"What was the condition of my father before he left?" He paused for a moment before speaking.
"He was good prince Nuka, he wasn't too eager to travel to the mountain pride but-"
"No, something was wrong with him!" Nuka and Onzi both looked to Zira who had, by the grace of the kings managed to calm her emotions to help the situation. " I could tell…I just knew something was wrong like he was sick."
"Did he tell you when he started feeling sick?"
"Yes, yesterday. He said something didn't sit right with his stomach after the lioness hunt." Voiced Onzi.
"THEY DID IT! THEY TRIED TO POISON HIM!...THEY TRIED TO POISON ALL OF US. JUST LOOK! LOOK AT WHAT THEY DID TO US…TO OUR FAMILY!"
Poison? The idea didn't seem too far fetched. After all it would explain the sudden decline in his fathers health. While Nuka looked at him now, he was a sad imagine of what he was only a few hours earlier. Scar chest rose and fell heavily from his wheezing. His limbs were shaking like tree leaves trembling from a strong gust of wind. And his vomiting…it stunk like rotten meat…rotten insides.
"Where are the lionesses Onzi?"
"They are all outside on the platform Prince Nuka, why?"
"Are they all there?" Remember that he had sent two reinforcements for gather Nala. He was positive that she had not moved from were he left her.
"Yes Sir."
" Good." He slowly got up from sitting "It's time to pass judgement."
"Okay, I'll get king Scar u-"
"No, fathers in no condition to do anything now." Nuka voiced, as he looked to his mother, Onzi and Jama. " I'll be passing judgement now."
They were gathered…no forced into the center of priderocks platform. The angry dogs circled the big cats like cattle. How the tides had turned, where the predator was now the prey. They were Tempted to bite at them, each and every time they walked around them. They just wanted to give those lions a piece of there own medicine!
The pride, did there best to ignore the hyenas. And they tried even harder to keep their morale together. But right now, that was impossible, as they stood close together, almost back to back. Trying to give each other comfort and to most importantly stay warm. It was all they could do now.
In the very moment, it was hard for any of the lionesses to believe that Sarabi had called off the takeover. Even though they had all heard it with their own ears. They had all vowed to follow her. If she would have given the command they would have- without thinking, done what she had asked in the heartbeat. She knew all her lionesses trusted her…but for her to so this. It was like an act of distrust to them.
"Scars going to kill us all…" voiced Koni. She stood between sarafina and Mae. She was the first one of the lionesses to say anything.
"Don't think that, we have to stay pos-"
"Don't give me that crap Sara-You know we are all as good as dead now!" The lionesses didn't dare raise their voice, when talking to one another. They didn't need to give the hyenas an excuse to cause them more trouble. "It's all over…we should have never given up!"
"It was the best choice!-"
"It wasn't the ONLY choice!" Koni growled " we could have kept fighting- we SHOULD have kept fighting."
"Really? You're going to say that- Koni you can barely open your eye! You'd be fighting half blind. What good would you be!"
"So…I'd rather push myself until I couldn't anymore-"
"So you'd be like Elsa then?" Mae voice came out of nowhere. "Taking on too much, getting yourself killed. Because that's exactly what she did!"
"Elsa was being foolish-" Koni began to argue, but she was quickly cut off by Mae again.
"And so are you talking the way you are!"
"Besides…" added Sarafina " Sarabis always had our best interest at heart. If she felt that this outcome was for the better then…we have to believe her." Sarabi could always depend on sarafina to defend her. The lioness in question had distanced herself from her sisters. The little lead-way the hyenas did give them sarabi took. She needed Time to think, she needed to know what her plan worked. "Sarabi?"
"I have to see if it worked." Sarafina blinked confused, was she talking to her.
"I'm sorry?"
"I don't know if it worked…" sarabi voiced sounded on egde…impatient. " my plan."
"What plan?"
"To poison Scar."
"…poison?!" Sarafina quickly recollected herself and lowered her voice before the she was heard by unwanted ears. "What are you talking about…poisoning Scar? Sarabi you can't be serious how…when…"
"The wildebeest we gave him, it was poisoned by a Black Mamba." Sarafina looked at her friend like she was mad, what did she mean that that wildebeest had been poisoned by a Black Mamba.
"How do you know this."
"I recognized the bite wound on it's back leg. That wildebeest wasn't dying from starvation but poison."
"Was hat the reason why you didn't let anyone else touch it?"
"Yes."
"..b…but how are you not affected yourself, surely you should be sick too."
" I do feel it some but…I'm immune to the poison. Remember when I was bitten when I was younger? When Scar locked Mufasa and I in the Black Mamba cave. I was bitten then.Whatever Rafiki gave me saved my life." Sarafina nodded remembrance the time where she thought she had lost her best friend. It was the worst day of her life when she and the others in the pride heard the news. "Hmp, he said if I were to be so lucky and get bitten okay, I wouldn't have to worry about dying."
"…I see. So do you think the poison got to him."
"I pray it did…if not then. I don't know."
"Do you think Scar will…" before Sarafina could finish. The lionesses heard two rather loud voices coming from the distance. As soon as the three dogs came into view, with an added member…a member who should be nowhere near priderock- Sarafina heart dropped.
"Keep it movin!" Voiced Shezni, she forcefully shoved the stiff moving Nala along, but to the platform. "You lions ain't so smart are ya?!"
"Yea!! Trying to hide out there were you thought no one would find ya huh? " Banzai chimed almost night pitched " stupid!! Am I Right Ed!" The dumber of the three nodded his head happily.
"Yea unlike you!" Shenzi, who was walking along side Nalas right side. Took the opportunity to poke fun of the lionesses in her beaten state. She playfully and forcefully hit Nala upside her head. "Laying out in the middle of nowhere, like a fool. WE knew where to hide. You think we were gonna let you stinky, pushy, overweight lions kill us?! Pleaseee!"
Making fun of a lion, in front of there face. Without fear of death…lets say the three goons were on cloud nine at this very moment.
"Alright, join the rest of em!" Banzai barked " Ed, why don't ya do the honors!" Ed was more than ready to do the Honors of shoving Nala into the Hyena circle were the rest of her pride was.
"Nala?!" Sarafina immediate went over to her daughter. "Get way from. Her!" Sarafina bared all teeth. Happily showing the bits and piece in of hyena flesh still in them. If they too wanted to be on the menu, all they had to do was touch Nala one one time. Quickly the two lionesses were surrounded by the rest of their small pride. All wondering the same thing. "What are you doing here?!" Sarafina asked. "How did they find you?!" She asked again " why did-" the blankness of Nala expression caused Sarafina to stop her rambling. "Baby…Nala whats wrong?" Her eyes, curious scanned her daughters body. She was covered in cuts and buries, and even blood dotted itself along her once clean tan fur. "Nala what happened?"
It felt like she didn't know. Like she didn't know how to tell them. Opening her mouth and expecting words to come out of them was impossible. Nala felt like she couldn't form words, she didn't know how to. Her brain was still trying to register what had happened to her. In those agonizing moments that she and Nuka shared, her body knew what was happening, her heart knew what was happening. But her minds eye, couldn't process it.
Her brain had literally shut off the moment she felt Nuka crawl on top of her. And it stayed off, after seeing Kopas blood fall from his lips. After hearing his last cry. Everything had shut off, and she had stayed in that exact spot from where Nuka left her until she was drugged to her paw from the three hyenas.
"…i….m….." she gave up, rather than try again. It was easier to drown in her pain alone, away in the back of her mind. than force herself to express it. Nala shifted the weight in her paws, and acted like there weren't 10 worried eyes looking down at her. Her blue eyes stayed glued looking straight forward. She looked at at them, but still, at the same time not looking at anything or anyone. Her eyes were just, and distance. Clouded by some fog.
"…s-something wrong…" her mother voiced, terrified of what the unknown cause could be. Then that worry-that fear, instantly turned to aggression as she narrowed her eyes. "What did you do to her?!" Accusing the three dog who had so roughly treated her daughter. " You three did this! I'LL KILL YOU."
"Whoa whoa whoa! We ain't do nothing! She found her like that!!" Banzai went behind Shenzi, who was behind Ed, who stood there rather confused of the situation.
"Yea! We sound her like that!" Echoed Shenzi.
"What?!" Sarafina didn't believe them. Those lying dogs! they did something to her daughter and she was going to find out. "You liars!-"
"Sara! Don't think this though" Koni, who she was just at odds with a few moments before, tried stepping in front of Sara. Blocking her path to her certain death. They were all still out numbered.
"Out of my way!"
"No! your daughter's already here, don't get yourself killed" Mae interjected. " she's safe with you now."
"But they-"
"They didn't do this." The queens voice made everyone pause and listen. While Sarafina had stepped away to rip Shenzi, Banzai and Ed to shred. Sarabi stood right in front of Nala, scanning her closely. "…they didn't do this."
Everyone could tell, once they looked closer and stood closer that these long trailed claw marks were not made by the paws of stubby clawed hyenas. They could also tell that the long strands of black hair, that hung from her mouth couldn't have come from the short furred dogs. And also that scent, standing close, you could tell that the scent she carried on her fur was not, one of Scars hyenas.
Once Sara had calmed from her frenzy state, she could see all of this too. She recked of another lion, one not from their pride. It was at that moment, when Nala did take a quick look from the ground and met the gaze of Sarabi. The lioness instantly made the connection of what happened. She knew. She knew because she felt that way, and looked that way before.
"Then what are you saying sarabi, who else did this, who else could have done this!!"
"Hell, it was Nuka who sent us to go get her." Informed Shenzi, her partner Banzai echoed right back the facts they knew.
"Yea! he was the one who knew where she was. He told us exactly where to go." Sarafina shook her head in disbelief. Not her, not her baby.
"No no no no, not my baby- Nala tell me what happened….please." Unfortunately Sarafina words would go on cold ears. After that small…one second reconnect with sarabi. Nala was gone, back into the safety of her mind. Completely blocking out the outside world, and her mother. "..Nala….Nala!?".
The other lionesses, her pride mothers, sisters, stood by in silence. Not knowing what to say or how to say it. They felt for her, they felt for her bad. What words could they really say to help her? To take away the trauma? Anything besides giving her that relief would be fruitless.
While Sarafina dealt with the pain of losing her daughter, Sarabi would soon join her. As soon as Sarabi saw Nala being brought back- and in the condition she was in, she knew something terrible had happened. And the fact that Nala came, without him, only confirmed her suspicious.
"…Kopa?" She said his voice softy, almost inaudibly to the others. But it was loud and clear to the blue-eyed lioness. Sarabi could instantly see the change triggered in Nala once hearing Kopas name. She began to shake…spams violently. Her muscled moved out of her control, as water flew from my eyes.
"…sor…ry…" the first word and only word she had said in the passing hours… "…s…orry…sorry….s..sorry…s…sorry…s." Nala continued to apologize uncontrollably until her mother embraced her, trying to force her to stop, to comfort her, Shield her. But it didnt help. And a mother shielding didn't matter...Nala continued apologizing to the little life she had failed. Still being tightly wrapped in her mothers arms, still shaking the whole time.
The time had come, Nuka along with his mother, Jama and a pawful of Hyenas waited patiently at Scars side. He did not seem to recover….he didn't seem to be recovering at all. They would be wasting time and lying to themselves if they thought he would recover.
And if he did, he surely wouldn't be the same. This poison or whatever illness this was, that gripped his father tight by the throat. Was not letting go. Yet Zira had them wait. She urged them to just believe in Scar that he would soon fight this and be back to normal in no time.
Nuka hated this fairytale dreaming. Nuka knew the moment his father had to be brought back in, on the back of hyenas. Something was terrible wrong. A part of him was worried, a part of him wanted to cry about it. But that part of them was quickly killed by the knew part in him. The monster, the beast.
We all get sick, we all die, it'll happen sooner or later. He thought for his father that it would be later, but… that wouldn't be the case. That was just that. Time to move on.
"Let's go, we've waited long enough." His voice filled the utter silence in the den. "We've wasted enough time."
"But you're father-"
"Will still be here when we get back." He explained " we have a job to do mother. You're either strong enough to deal with it, or you aren't. Pick one."
From the tone in his voice, her son wasn't giving her much options. She had to pull it together, if not, then she would embarrass Scar. That was the absolute last thing she wanted to do right now. Zira slowly rose to her paws.
"Okay, lets call them."
As Nuka walked to the ledge if the platform, he looked down on all the small bodies. From this height he could see everything, from this height he could feel everything. All the blood rush and urges came from being- feeling so, powerful. He was a monster looking down on his poor unfortunate subjects. And he liked this. He liked this feeling a lot. Almost as much as he enjoyed ripping the power and joy out of others. Like they did to him sooo many times before.
He gave a startling Roar, to gather the crowd. His voiced bellowed so deep and so low, Nuka even managed to surprise himself. Not to mention his mother and the others that stood behind him. It was show time, it was HIS time.
"A great offense has been made to the pridelands royal family." Nuka didn't need to raise his voice over a yell. He had everyones attention. " our most beloved king, my dearest father has been poisoned." A mixture of exchange could be heard in the many voices of the hyenas. " Not only that, but it is clear as you ALL can see. That an unnecessary act of murder has befallen our poor family. We lost many innocent lives who did nothing wrong, but utterly devote themselves to our king!"
This got them acting, this got them fired up. Growls and howls echoed from the lower platform. As hyena began to close in on the circled pride. They viciously bite at them, growled at them, they couldn't wait to draw blood. All they needed…was the order.
"Murderers!" Barked one.
"Killers!" Growled another.
"Traitors!" Snarled a third.
The lionesses were being drowned out. Not heard, until by an unlikely chance. Nuka gave them the small window to speak on their behalf.
"Why did you do it? Why did you all participate in the over throwing of your king?!" They did not expect this, they did not prepare in any from to say anything. They all were assured that their fates were sealed and signed away. You can't talk your way out of death. Death always wins. "Well does anyone care to explain?! Was there some purpose to this incredible act, or was this rather…a bored day for you lionesses, and you simply needed something to do? I suggest you Speak now or forever hold you peace." Nuka scanned the 6 bodies, all of them looking the same from his distance. They were all covered in some sort of blood and gunk.
"Please!" Nuka felt, rather than heard his mother hash whisper in his ear. "Don't even let them speak Nuka. They don't even deserve your time. They need to be killed- all of them! Every single last one of these murderers!"
"In time mother, but first, I am curious" as he casted his one eye down to the grounds of the platform a lone figure stood out. Sarabi, she either bravely or stupidly excluded herself from the pride as she walked forward. Walking closer with each step to snapping jaws.
"Why do you waste your time asking us, when you know the truth? You're a smart boy, you know the impact of what your father has done!" Hmp, to Nuka, Sarabi sounded like a angry hurt mother. Betrayed by her cubs father no less, of course he would know all about this due to the complicated relationship between his parents. "He was a monster! and we did what we had to do-"
"You dare come into my home, and threaten my DAUGHTER?!" Zira nearly found herself wanting to jump off the platform and strangle sarabi herself. If it hadn't been for Nuka holding out his arm, she probably would have. "YOU are the monster here! Every single last one of you!!"
"INNOCENCE, would have been spared!" As she said this, sarabi looked right into Nuka eyes. She knew exactly what he had done. That lost eye, that broken off tail, that torn mane… they weren't battle scars that Nuka carried. That was him at his true form, a disgusting beast, a monster.
"Hmp." Nuka voiced causally " to bad, we don't think the same when it comes to innocence, huh Sarabi? Your little boy, was just a little bundle of joy in your arms right? Despite how you got him, he was simply a little thing of joy." Sarabi felt her stomach and heart harden. " well to me, he wasn't that. He was the Bain of my existence. A threat to my very being, and so, he had to be eliminated clearly. Brother and all, but it wasn't like I had it easy."Nukas eye casted over to where Nala stood. Her head stayed deep within her mothers shoulder, refusing to let their eyes meet. "So in the end, what can we say. We do the things we think are just? Well no matter." He then cleared his throat " Where is Simba?"
"Dead." Sarabi spoke matter-a-factly.
"Dead? Please like I believe it. What do you take me for a fool?"
"Do you see him here?" Her answer had Nuka scan the area more. She was right, there was no red maned lion anywhere to be found. But she had to be buffling. How could simba be dead? Who was the one to kill him, because it certainly wasn't him, and he was looking forward to that! "He was for your father, and so, as you said. He had to be eliminated."
Her voice was cold, distance, unlike herself. Even her own lionesses stood in disbelief, Sarabi could be many things. Evil and cruel if she truly wanted to…but you kill her own son, her own flesh and blood? She couldn't do that- there was no way!
"…sarabi, what are you talking about?" Voiced Koni
"What do you mean he had to be eliminated!" Voiced Mae. Sarafina was too lost for words to even speak, as she looked at the lioness she called her best friend.
"sarabi?!" Their cries went on deaf ears, as Sarabi refused to listen to them. Nuka had killed one son, he would NOT kill another. So, if being labeled as the lioness- the queen who killed her own son, in the name of a takeover, then so be it. She wouldn't have to hear the names, or feel the tremendous pain this life caused her for long.
"Well, I can say. You just made my life a lot easier and boring." Informed Nuka " it would have been a very tedious day for me to have to kill both sons in one day, but I can't say I wouldn't have enjoyed it." A sick smile crept to his face. "Well, I guess everything that had to be said, was said…the call for punishment is now. How do you plea?" Nuka asked her, not bothering to trouble himself with the others, he already had a plan in mind.
"To poisoning your father, guilty."
"And for the crimes of planning to over throw the royal family?" Sarabi didn't even try to give him the satisfaction of her saying anything else. Her unnerved silence was loud enough."then Sarabi, I sentence you and your pride to death."
"THEY were innocent in poisoning Scar." Informed Sarabi "They knew nothing of this. They were only following MY orders." That they were and Nuka knew this. He knew the only dangerous one, the REAL troublemaker in that pride to threaten him now was Sarabi. She was their voice of reason, their light in a dark place. She was the fire that sparked their flames. Once he put her out, they would all die out next.
"So what are you going to do?" Voiced Zira in the background.
"Simple. im going to kill her."
"Wait?! Not just her- all of them were apart of this. They all need to DIE!!"
"Don't be foolish mother, we can't kill all of them. If we did how else would we survive, we need them."
"But-"
"They will all fall in line after this. Trust me. What little will they still THINK they have will be stomped in the dust." His smile had never been so big, and despite his condition his left eye had never shined so bright. Now he got to watch the destruction on a whole family, under his command. He returned his attention back to the lionesses. "As you wish Sarabi. Your pride will be spared in the exchange of your life-"
"No!" Tears fell from her eyes. " Sarabi don't do this!"
"…it's alright Sara."
"Sarafina right, don't be heroic…your our queen. We need you to lead us!"
"And I have led you as far as I can go…."
"But...but not like this!" Vocied Sharra.
"There is no other way."
"No! No…you will not do this to me…Sarabi…" Sarabi could see the pain, the begging from sarafina eyes. But she could no longer reciprocated the feelings. "….p…please…"
"I'm sorry… you all still have something to fight for. I don't." Thinking of her sons, one murdered with no chance and the other driven off. She loved her pride…her family. But she had NOTHING left to fight for here at priderock. She had one job, one goal and that was to kill Scar. At least before she went, she did do that one last thing for her family. Her final act as queen.
Though courage and though the hope that now, she would be reunited with Mufasa once again Sarabi bowed her head to her lionesses and stepped away from her pride for the final time.
Sarabi walked fully into an outside circle of more hyena. They numbered in the few dozens still. The rest of the lionesses were kept at bay by a few dogs who would only have the joy of watching the festivities.
"I prince Nuka, sentence you to death. Kill her."
And then they were on her. Like a swarm of angry bees. They coated her completely from where she stood. Dog piling in the masses. Ripping, biting, chewing.
" SARABI NO!!" This was the only thing that pulled sarafina from her daughters side. Sarafina jumped passed a few dogs and went to save her queen herself. She was easily stopped by three hyenas. They bite into her with no mercy, as Koni, Sharra and Mae raced to her side.
Nala stood back, watching everything unfold from the inner most part of her mind. She watched her mother leap into action and failed to stop her. She wouldn't stop her. She watched as the rest of the pride went to help her mother who was crying out in pain from her attackers.new, fresh blood coated her fur and everyone else fighting. She felt the unyielding pressure of Nuka gaze watching her, watching everyone…
It was hard to breath, hard to think, hard to feel. Everything around her was so chaotic and all Nala desperately needed was quiet. Just quiet. Her spams soon became uncontrollable as she literally felt her body shake apart, fall apart, be ripped apart. Everything she knew was falling apart.
She watched on in horror as the sounds around her started to drown out. The howling of happy blood thirsty hyenas getting their fix. With blood dripping from everyone of their many mouths. and Nuka horrific laugh of excitement…
She looked frantically for her mother. She wanted to go after her but she couldn't move. She couldn't go up to her and beg her to stop fighting, to just give up, to realize everything is over, to come back to her. Her mother was too busy fighting for a dead queen, along with the other lionesses.
Nala was drowning and she needed someone to save her.
Her body had went numb.
Then Nala saw a thick trail a blood crawling her way. It made its way slowly, down the platform from where her leader once stood. Crawling over rocks, climbing up cracks in the ground trying to get to her. It was painfully slowly and yet painfully fast.
She shook uncontrollably was it came closer and closer, in her head, she screamed for it to stop. But it wouldn't, the trial of blood was relentless, like Nuka was with her. He didn't care how she bled, he just wanted her to bleed.
It was still warm to the touch when it reached her shaking paws. the red crimson even carried little bits of Sarabis fur in it. It felt like the blood was being soaked up into Nala very skin, with all the pain it carried with it.
sickness came over her. the weakening in her knees, the pain in her chest and total collapse of her system. An unfamiliar feeling consumed more and more of her body. It made her heart race, her plus quicken, her breathing felt nonexistent. She was nonexistent, she was becoming nonexistent
Nala was embraced with a coming darkness that filled her conscious and took away her spirit. Then she collapsed.
there will be a section for an author note where I will answer any and all questions. This is the end of PART ONE!
