Chapter 46
"And you really think this will work Nuka?" her voice, every time he heard it, she was always pestering him. Before his mother couldn't give a damn about him, now she's always down his damn back!
"Of course it will, I've thought it over though and though."
The King of the pride lands sat comfortably along his sunbathing rock. At any moment now, the lionesses would be leaving for the days hunt. He just had to sit back and wait til then.
Nuka would rather have had this time to reflect on his next future endeavor, but mothers do have a way of spoiling their child's plans. Well, maybe it was only his mother.
"well have you thought about what you'll do if it doesn't?"
"Please, it'll happen. Vitani still playing her part."
"How do you know? She could have changed her mind, left that pride all we know! A lot can happen within a year Nuka. Hell, her loyalties could have changed."
This made the king's ear twitch. There were few things Nuka cared about in all honesty, but one thing for sure was that he believed family does not betray family.
That to him was the biggest offense. Trust in anyone was a hard thing to come by. Especially being in the position he was in, family was the only thing one could put their trust in.
"Wouldn't happen, this is Vitani we're talking about."
"Well I'm sorry but please refresh my memory, I don't remember you two being the closet before she left."
"We weren't that doesn't mean anything."
"she didn't even send regards when she heard about her own father's murder, or you taking the thrown."
"Hell, she could have been busy." Voice Nuka. Not thinking of the matter much. He didn't care, that Vitani said nothing about their father. Nuka himself was over the matter the next day. How could his father be so stupid to trust lionesses that hated him?
That was why Nuka had the lioness eat first, so if they did try to plan anything against him- which he doubted- they'd have a hell of a hard time. Unless they were that bold to take one for the team. They weren't going to kill themselves.
Nuka wouldn't let them, he needed the numbers for when he took over the mountain pride. And he'd be damn if any lioness thought they were going to off themselves without his consent.
Nuka was nothing like his father, he knew he needed the lionesses. So he fed them- well more than his father did. And sheltered them. In the brown lion's mind, the lionesses had struck gold after Scars' death.
They were no longer cramped in the single side den unsupervised. No, once they were done hunting, they would all return back to the main den here they would stay and be watched until he needed them.
You can't be surprised by someone you're always watching.
"I'm just saying that is a major possibility. Vitani has been there with that pride, with their king, practically a queen now. And you think she's going to let you come in and change that? I mean did you ever think, what if she actually grew to love kijuu or kyuuuji or whatever that lions name was. They could be happy together, with a family and-"
"Mother, please. You're giving me a headache with all this nonsense. This is Vitani your daughter and MY twin were talking about. Love? What the hell would Vitani have to LOVE with that old hag? If anything, me coming in and taking care of him would be doing her a favor. And family? Please, does Vitani even look like a lioness that would pop out a single cub? I mean, she might have if she was forced to do so, but with her mouth and attitude she'd probably;y drive him crazy to death before she let that happen."
Zira took what he said into consideration….very little consideration. She still felt that this plan was too much. Joining the mountain pride for their lands and prey was one thing. But plotting to kill the king and take over a new super pride was a whole other thing.
What did Nuka think? He was going to be buddy-buddy with…whats his name and then while no one was looking off the lion? Kill the king of the mountain with no repercussions?
It just didn't feel right. Down in her heart, she knew that even Scar wouldn't be able to pull this ploy off. What makes Nuka think he can?
"Mom! Mommm!" a darker fur lioness came into the area. Her brown pelt matched her older brother to a T, even down to the wiry whiskers. But the face, the face was all too similar to her older sister.
"Yes, Shia?" voiced Zira, feeling old now. the young lioness saw her brother, her eyes quickly brighten.
"Nuka I was looking for you!" she bounded over towards him.
"Why?"
"Because I'm bored, there's nothing to do. Saada and Jama are gone watching the hunting party. and I don't feel like playing with the stupid hyenas." She took a sit right next to him.
Shia could easily see that her brother didn't want to bother with her. But she was the little sister. She was just doing her job.
And there was nothing for little Shia to do, the lands were dry. She'd never been outside of pride rock, she had no friends. All she had was her brother and mother.
Which wasn't a lot for a growing yearling who dreamed of adventure.
"and what do you think I can do about it Shia?"
"I don't know, you're king, make something happen. I'm soooo bored please."
"Shia."
"Please."
"will you stop it-"
"please please pleaseeeeee, I'm dying!"
"Shitani, stop pestering your brother, he's busy." The lioness quickly rolled her eyes.
"Nuka always 'busy'." She voiced irritated. " he never has time for me."
"He's king, it's very demanding."
"doesn't look too demanding to me right now." The cub voiced lowly to herself. As she dark eyes clearly watched the lion before her was lying on his back doing nothing.
"Nevermind that, are you ready for the big move Shia?" finally he voiced a question to her. She jumped to her paws.
"Yes! I am sooo ready to leave this dump. I cant wait to see something outside of the pride lands. Hey, you think where we're going their be cubs my age?"
"sure, there's a whole pride where we are going. I'm sure they'll be some lion there your age."
"sweet! Maybe they'll have cute boys- Oh! I can finally have some girlfriends! Wow just imagine, friends, you aren't you and mom…that's the dream."
"yea, anyway kid. Go back and find where the hunting party is. I want to know when they are getting back."
"me? I just got here!" the cub was baffled. Was why it, that every time she came to the party, it was always over. And she was always the first asked to leave.
It wasn't fair. All she wanted was to be included, and no one wants to give her the time of day!
"And now you're just leaving." His voice was calm, he didn't even look at her, as he stays flat against the rocks.
"Mom, tell Nuka just because he's king, that doesn't mean he can just tell me what to do." She protested, but her mother was tired of it. The back and forth all the time. Zira thought she had gotten rid of that when Vitani left.
It's a shame that Shia is just like her older sister
"just do what your brother asks Shia."
"ugh…Fine." She pouted as she walked off.
"wow, she's such a brat." Voiced the king finally after some time of saying nothing.
"she's still a cub."
"well, she needs to hurry up and grow up. I don't have all the time in the world to deal with her. She needs to be grown so I can get rid of her." It was as if he could feel his mother's body stiffen from that comment. "relax I'm not serious, well I do want her to be grown now. It's irritated dealing with cubs."
"you wouldn't do what your father did with Vitani right? I mean, I know we never talked about this but, what is your plan?"
"hmm, I don't know mom. Obviously eventually Shia going to have to leave and secure me another kingdom."
"Why, why can't you just be satisfied with what you have Nuka?"
"because." His voice was growing low, now he was getting irritated. " there's always something bigger and better out there. And I'm making sure my family gets it. Besides small dreams perish with time, but big dreams, they last for a lifetime."
He sounded so much like his father when he said this. Whether he knew It or not. Nuka was by far the most like this father. Scar wouldn't admit it, Nuka likely can't see it.
He thinks of himself as being better.
But it as there, right in front of her. The cub that she wanted so badly to follow in his father's pawprints. Now it was happening and she has no idea of how going down this path will turn out.
