Chapter 47.
She planned to rest for a while, and then get up and join the hunting party right before they left. or rather she'd tag along in the rear. Maybe a few miles behind.
However, when she awoke that wasn't the case. As soon as Nala realized what had happened, a huge wave of annoyance washed over her.
"you've failed them again… " she told herself.
She might have felt slightly better if it weren't for the pounding headache, that echoed just behind her temple. It seemed to constantly haunt her.
Biting at her, like a bitter voice in the back of her head. But what was more annoying than that was the look of Shia, as she looked down on Nala almost with pathetic pity.
" Aren't you supposed to be with the hunting party right now?" she voiced, standing in the entryway of the main den. She had her eyes locked on Nala with a raised brow.
In Shia's mind, something was always 'off' about this lioness.
"Yea, I was." The frail lioness got up, she knew it was time for her to leave and….'join' the hunting party.
"Well, why aren't you?" She was a direct little lioness, Nala would give her that.
"…um they left me." That wasn't a very direct answer or rather the answer that Shia wanted to hear. Nala knew this, but she didn't feel like explaining herself to some cub. But this is Shia, princess Shia of the pride lands. And this lioness requires answers from all of her subjects.
" They didn't just leave you, you've overslept again. that would be the proper answer to me. it was because YOU overslept." Nala diverted her eyes from Shia and the answer. "Look." Her voice was stern. The young lioness approached with a walk that held more confidence then her body could hold. "I don't know what your problem is, but you need to get your act together."
"..yes-"
"Don't just say yes, look at me when I'm talking to you! Don't forget you're talking the princess of the pride lands here." Nala had heard this speech so many times before. She could recite it from memory Shia had been saying it to her, since she was practically born.
"…I'm sorry, forgive princess Shia." Nala bowed her head and made sure to leave the den before she got anymore lecturing from the princess.
"Don't try to get on my good side now. Like I was saying you need to get your act together. My brother works hard for this pride and our royal subjects. The least you could do by being apart of this pride is help out! I'm tired of seeing everyone in this pride carry their weight around except you. I don't know what my brothers see in you."
It must have been a slip of the tongue. No… or maybe it was on purpose. After all, what did this little girl- this cub know what she was even saying? she didn't know, she knew nothing. Not a damn thing.
"I don't know…he.."
"oh please, I know he gives you pass after pass for your screw-ups. I mean you have one job, ONE it's not like he's asking you to run the whole kingdom for him. If anything my brother should be the ones getting the breaks around here. but he's up countless hours of the night thinking of ways to help us. and you...you don't even come home at night. what's with that?"
"Princess Shia you-"
"Please, don't act like I don't know, I know everything that goes on around here it's my job." she voiced matter-a-factly. She circled Nala.
If anything Shia was unknowingly making the lioness before her mad, mad and desperate. Shia idolizes her brother more than anything. And for what reason Nala still cannot understand, she loves a monster.
But she too loves that monster…
In haste to get away, Nala pushed right passed Shia without a word of explanation.
"Hey, where are you going?!" her dumbfounded question went unanswered, as Shia watched the lioness scurry towards another location. Hopefully to join the hunting party.
The feeling was hot, like a slow-burning sensation that quickly arose from nothing. It consumed her and made it hard for her to function. She had just begun moving but her body was already braking out into a nervous sweat.
chills ran throughout her body. Sending nervous twitches that sparked randomly inside her body. She felt sick, she was sick, she was sick of herself. If her stomach wasn't so empty right now, she would vomit. To relive herself.
if the waterhole hadn't become a dry sand pit, she could look at her reflection and see just how disgusting she was to herself. " look at you…you idiot….kings I'm so stupid. I can't do anything right! you're pathetic."
the one thing Nala did think she could do right, was blame herself. And why not, she wholeheartedly felt she deserved everything that came her way. For her sanity she had to believe it, or why else did her life turn out to be the hell it is?!
She had to have done something for her, to be this miserable.
Her blurry eyes closed, as she slowed her breathing down. She had to calm herself. Get her head back on and ignore her feelings. This method had been working for months. Sure her life was hell, but so were others. At least she was still alive and breathing. Some of her pride members aren't that lucky anymore….or perhaps if she thought about it, they were the lucky ones.
She had to get over herself. It wasn't a big deal and she needed to move on. After her pep-talk, Nala straightens herself up and left to find her family and any welcoming distraction.
He was resting alone now. Kenya and her sisters were still off hunting and Kye had gone off on his adventure. The lion never rested.
This was the prefect opportunity for Simba to get some real sleep. The last nightmare he had, shook him to his core whenever he had time to think about it. Which is normally the reason why Simba keeps himself so busy.
The less he has time to think, the less his head gets to bother him, or his past rather.
The sun was up, birds were flying and small animals could be heard in the far distance. Things were normal, things were at peace, he was at peace.
Something about sleeping outside or being away from home made a world of difference. Simba didn't know why or how, but when he was outside, away from everything the bad dreams never came.
He could allow his eyes to slowly drift into welcoming darkness, as his mind, would at any moment turn off.
Boop
"och. What the?" one lazy red orb opened to see that the hell it was that smacked him on the cheek. As he looked he saw nothing.
Boop
There it was again! Something small and sharp smacked his forehead this time. Now Simba sat up confused. Yet, as his eyes scanned he saw nothing. no wind blowing, no other animals on the ground or around him. It was just him, he must have been imagining things, until this time. Whatever was being thrown at him smacked him right in the eye.
Boop
"Ow, what the hell?" he quickly covered his watering eye. " is that fruit…who the hell the throwing-"
Boop
Again right smack in the forwards. Now he knew for sure this wasn't just a coincidence. Someone was purposely targeting him.
"Hey! What the-" Simba was able to duck right before a much larger fruit was about to smack him in the head. His paw left his reddening eye, as he looked in the direction from which the fruit came from. "hey who the hell is throwing that! Can't you see I'm sleeping here? Cut it out!"
There was an awkward pause before another voice, an odd-sounding laughing voice came to his ears.
"Hehe sorry meh no see ya there!"
The voice was coming from a tree, so it was probably some sort of monkey.
"Yea well, watch it next time." Feeling he had made himself known, the lion went back to his curled position. And then…
Smack
This time was fruit split open when it made contact with his thigh. the sticky red liquid slowly ran down his leg. Now he was pissed, didn't that damn monkey or bird or whatever it was that was pestering him get the idea that he was trying to sleep!
"Hey what gives, I told you I was right here! Hey, where are you. Show yourself!"
Again there was that awkward pause where Simba thought he was alone again. Then the voice came, laughing.
"Hehe meh sorry, but I tink it's time for ya to start to get up!"
Simba did get up and scan the trees. He was trying to pinpoint where the voice was coming from exactly. Yet the tree canopy was so thick it was hard for him to tell. "Just leave me the hell alone, okay."
"Whyy?"
"why? What do you mean why? I'm trying to sleep!"
"sleep? No sleep! Dis is no time to sleep, dis is the wake-up! dis is time for action! It's now or never, ya time is coming hehe!"
"oh great… the forest lunatic… just your luck Simba"
"Meh, no lunatic! Meh is telling you ya need to get prepared!"
He was trying to get prepared for his nap, at this.
"great…what did I do to deserve this-" the male voiced hopelessly to himself.
"Aye, are ya listin to meh?! I say its time fa action! Its time to get prepared!" bemused by the idiot Simba thought he would give him the pleasure of entertaining his question.
"Prepared, prepared for what?"
A burst of annoying laughing came from all sides of the tree tops. "HEHEHE! meh kno you already kno!"
" Ugh forget I even asked, what am I doing?" Simba hastily got up and figured he must be going crazy from lack of sleep. There had to be someone here, or else he was talking to himself.
Whatever the matter was he didn't care. He had better things to do like sleep.
"Aye, why ya walk away? Ya can't walk away from dis."
"oh really, watch me. I'm going to walk away from you and whatever the hell it is you're talking about. Weird lunatic."
" son ya can't run from it fa forever, da say da past always has a way of comin bac! Ya can't run, ya can't run! Hehe!"
Simba walked off more annoyed than weirded out. Those Stupid forest lunatics.
