Chapter 13: Fire
The party was fine.
Honestly, it was stupidly boring, Alex was just standing next to his sisters while his parents stayed next to his grandparents.
"I thought this would be an interesting night" said the boy to his sisters as they headed to the dessert table.
"Me too" Lily ate some food before speaking again "And this pie needs more butter"
"I thought they would at least play some music." Lizzie sighed "Don't you think it would be better to leave ...?"
Lizzie's question was interrupted just by what she wanted: music.
Immediately the girls' gaze went to their brother, who raised his hands as he defended himself.
"I didn't do anything!"
The girls laughed at his reaction and soon discovered the origin of the sound, apparently, their grandparents hired a band to make everything more enjoyable.
"Let's dance!"
The two girls ran to the center of the room, where most people, including their parents, were dancing; Alex was about to join his sisters when someone touching his shoulder stopped him.
"Sorry about this, sir."
Smoke began to appear in the small improvised band's stage.
"Why are you apologizing….?
Alex suddenly felt a heavy blow to his head, and everything went black.
A shiver ran through his body as he opened his eyes. He was drenched in freezing water; he tried to recognize the place he was in.
He failed, everything was completely dark and ... was he tied up?
"Calm down, we only have fifteen minutes before the music ends and your parents realize you're not in the party."
A lamp was turned on in the room, and the teenager recognized his grandfather, who was smiling maliciously at him.
"You know, it was a relief that the fire you caused the other day in my kitchen didn't affect any ingredient or the necessary appliances for cooking, I do not want to imagine what kind of party I would be giving without food."
Alex's face paled, but even so, he decided to play dumb "Fire? I had nothing to do with that..."
"I saw you" the man hissed, with a strange glow in his eyes that Alex didn't like at all "Somehow, you set that table on fire, and you did it with your mind."
Alex wanted to scream in terror, did he know...?
"I don't know what abnormalities your family has found for you to have those powers, but I won't let them go to waste."
Reason to calm down: The man didn't know a thing about his past self.
Reason to panic: The man knew he had powers.
"Let me go" Alex tried to make his voice sound firm, but instead, his words came out as a plea, which made the man laugh.
Alex felt a mix of anger and panic at the same time, he just wanted to leave!
Suddenly, he could feel power on his limbs, and he could feel them burning the rope that tied him. Ha! he was freeing himself !, his father would know where he was ...!
Mr. Northwest put something in front of Alex's face for him to see: his bracelet
The boy suppressed a groan, there was no way for his father to find out where he was.
As soon as the ropes turned to ashes, the man snapped his fingers and two young men held him right away; the boy struggled, and was only released after his grandfather removed his bow tie and put something else around his neck.
Another… weird, heavy bow tie?
The men released him, and, immediately, Alex could feel a electricity running through his entire body.
The boy, agitated, saw how his grandfather held a remote control.
"If you try something weird or if you do not obey my orders, you will get an electric shock that will get worse every time" the man smiled "Oh, and I have the key to remove your bow tie, and destroying it will not help you much. Also, this thing has a microphone, if you tell anyone about this, I'll know"
They were threatening him, Alex couldn't believe it.
"From now on, you will do everything I tell you, and if you refuse and somehow survive the shocks" the man smiled "your sisters will have to take care of themselves, and not just from me"
Alex looked horrified, he wanted to scream, to make that man suffer...
But he was not powerful enough to avoid his threat.
"What do you want me to do?"
The boy stared at the ceiling, drowning his heavy breaths with his pillow so as not to wake his sisters.
He had to calm down, it was useless to take off his bracelet, (that man was "kind enough" to return it) if the damage he would do affected the shack.
"You will burn the old mansion"
"What? But ... why ...?"
"That place was of the Northwests, it can't belong to anyone else"
"But, the McGucket family ..."
"They are not my problem."
" I will not do it…!"
A strong electric shock made him change his mind.
A light coming from his cell phone took the teenager out of his thoughts. The boy took the device from his bedside stand and saw that his cousin Jane had sent him a message
"Are you awake?"
The boy smiled before answering.
"Did you have coffee after dinner?"
"Silly decision, I know, but I just LOVE coffe! Anyway, how are things going in Gravity Falls? "
Alex held his breath; he couldn't say anything to anyone, but ... he could write it, right?
Even so, the boy did not want to risk his cousin, or anyone else; he knew that as soon as Jane knew about the threat Alex received, she would not remain silent.
The boy clenched his teeth tightly; he used to be Bill Cipher! He used to be fearless and now he was terrified of a big jerk.
The teen let some tears of frustration roll down his cheeks as he replied:
"Everything is fine."
Their brother had something in his mind, that was for sure.
Since their father had confirmed Ford's theory, that Alex used to be Bill Cipher, the girls knew that their brother was going to feel odd for a few days.
The only things that seemed to bother the blond was the distance he now had with Stan and Ford and how strict the scientist was with him. To help the boy forget about those issues, they spent as much time as they could with him.
But that morning the boy was quite quiet, and seemed dejected, sad, but they didn't know why; he was so distracted that he hadn't even removed the bow tie from the day before.
The boy, in the middle of the afternoon, simply said that he would go for a walk, his parents agreed, although they could notice how his father looked with confusion at the boy for his strange attitude.
The boy got out of the shack, leaving his confused sisters behind.
Alex looked again at his received message.
"The McGuckets went fishing today, they took the old man with them, the cameras are deactivated, you have until 3 pm. Burn several places. "
The boy's hands trembled as he walked towards the back of the mansion.
"Just do it and leave, nobody will get hurt, nobody will get hurt ..."
As he repeated that in his head to comfort himself, Alex arrived to the place, but he had a problem: he didn't know how he would climb that wall.
The boy removed his bracelet, and concentrated.
When he was Bill Cipher, he could float, so, why wouldn't he be able to do that now.
The boy jumped... and nothing, he couldn't float.
"Come on..." Alex closed his eyes "I know I can do this..."
The boy did felt his body lighter, so he jumped again... and nothing happened.
"Ah! Come on!"
While losing his patience, the teen jumped again, and this time, his body levitated in the air.
The boy supressed an exclamaton of surprise and tocuhed the wall to push himself up, then, at the top, he easily went to the other side and stopped floating.
He fell to the ground.
The boy groaned and, with annoyance, he stood up and ran to the back door, which led onto the mansion's kitchen. Alex sighed, and tried to make fire with his hands.
He failed.
"Oh, please" the boy tried to concentrate so he could feel the heat that ran through his body every time he used his powers.
He failed again.
Alex growled and closed his eyes, he thought of his sisters and the threats of that man, he thought about the reasons why he was doing such vandalism.
He could feel it.
The boy opened his eyes ... just to see blue fire in his hands.
Was that fire useful? Yes. Could he use it? Definitely not, his grandfather, his parents, and his great-uncles would recognize those flames.
"Change, please" the boy tried to calm himself to achieve his mission.
"Change color, change color, change color ..."
After repeating the same words in his head for several minutes, he succeeded.
Alex closed his eyes, before putting his hands on the old wooden door.
Gradually, the door began to burn and Alex went closer to the main entrance, still with fire in his hands, to burn some ivy and several bushes.
"That's enough, now I just have to get out of here."
The boy stopped his powers, float again over the wall (after a few attempts) and ran away.
Before reaching the woods, Alex turned to see his work.
Everything was burning.
The boy definitely hated himself.
Alex, emotionally exhausted, was going to turn and leave when he heard a scream.
A scream that came from inside the mansion.
Alex felt as if his soul fell to his feet, his heart started to beat way too fast and he could feel how his blood ran out of his face.
The mansion wasn't empty.
