"Remind me to take Dr. Doom off of the Christmas card list," Danny said as he walked up to the rest of the group. Robot invasion aside, it wasn't too bad. The property damage had been minimized to only a few blocks, and the fight had only lasted a few hours. "Do you guys wanna stop for food? I'm starving."
"Uh, dude," Clint said as he placed his bow on his back. "No way are we doing that."
"Awe, why not? I'm a growing boy, you know," Danny said. He turned to Steve, channeling his most intense puppy dog eyes. And while Steve was close to cracking, it was an effort made in vain on Danny's part. He huffed. "Fine, I'll just go by myself then."
"I'm pretty sure they would need to shut down after, so make sure it's a place you don't go to often," Tony piped up.
"What do you mean?"
"Dude, seriously? You're bleeding all over the place. Your blood is radioactive, they'll have to deep clean everything if you go out to eat right now."
"I'm not bleeding, though. I feel fine."
"Danny?" Clint said, eyebrow raised.
"Yes, dear?"
"How do you expect to eat with a gaping hole in your stomach?"
"What? I don't have a hole in my stomach." Danny looked down, just to be sure.
Okay, so he had a hole in his stomach.
"When did that get there?" He said, scratching the back of his neck. He hadn't even felt it. Hadn't been aware of it. Then again, everything hurt a lot less nowadays. Especially after he got his powers. Maybe it was a side affect of being dead?
"Come on, Casper," Tony said, throwing some bandages on Danny's stomach and holding them there for a second. "Let's get you to the infirmary. Banner will patch you up all nice and new. If you behave he might even give you a lollipop."
"If he gives me one I'll shove it up your-"
Before he could finish his threat Tony quite literally swept him off of his feet before flying him away to the Avenger's tower, where Banner was currently getting the med bay ready for Danny.
"Do you think he'll be okay?" Clint asked.
"It's Danny," Steve said with a tired sigh. "Probably not."
Danny had passed out from the blood loss almost as soon as Tony had gotten him into the air. he and Brice worked quickly and efficiently to make sure Danny didn't suddenly go full ghost on them. It took only a few hours and a couple hundred stitches, but he'd pull through.
"Why didn't he say anything?" Bruce asked when they were done. "I mean, a big wound like that would have had to be killing him."
"He said he didn't feel anything at all when it happened. Didn't even know it was there until Clint pointed it out. maybe it was some kind of adrenaline thing."
"Hmm, I don't know, Tony," Bruce said. "Adrenaline usually wears off near the end of a fight. Do you remember how he said he died?"
"Yeah, he said he got 'electrocuted with an ass ton of ectoplasmic electricity' and that it hurt like a bitch. Why?"
"Well, lightning, ectoplasmic or otherwise, can sever nerve endings. And without the nerve endings he can't feel any pain."
"Well if that's the case then why hasn't he noticed until now?" Tony asked, looking from Danny to Bruce. The other scientist gave him a pointed look, eyebrow raised, as if the answer was obvious.
"Dude," he said. "Have you met Danny?"
