Summer to Remember
Harry Potter/ Fay Dunbar
XX
The argument that erupted across the Staff Table had been amazing. The fluctuations of Gryffindor House Points, hadn't been but eventually Dumbledore had managed to coax, Professor Snape down from all but demanding that Harry be expelled, by saying Harry would serve detention with the aforementioned Potions Master.
"I, trust Mr. Potter will accept that." Harry stopped in his tracks. His eyes flashed dangerously as he eyed the Headmaster.
Harry, had read in Hogwarts: A History and the Student Rulebook that a student could protest who he had the detention with "Headmaster, I partially agree with you. Detention yes, but with Professor Snape…No. In fact, I will point blank refuse to be anywhere near that man."
"Mr. Potter…You WILL…"
"I will not serve any detention that puts me within any proximity of the aforementioned Professor; anymore than I have to. I have had enough of that petty, primitive, prick's bullying and haranguing me based on one half of my genetics. Professor Snape, if you even dare to open your mouth and make any retort…YOU WILL lose your ability to breathe unassisted."
That silenced the hall. Threats had been made there before, but none so blatantly hostile. Nor, did it appear to be one made in haste, judging by Snape's face. "I…will grudgingly agree, Headmaster. If it hasn't been made aware to you by now, Mr. Potter is a natural lightning aligned elemental wizard, and I am sure you realise what will happen if elementals especially those aligned to Fire and its branches."
Dumbledore nodded and inwardly shuddered. He didn't particularly want to explain to anyone why is pet and spy had been found barbequed. "I'll do it, Albus…" Announced Flitwick as he, flashed Harry a very quick wink "…Mr. Potter will report to my Classroom in three days and will be expected to fully understand proper duelling etiquette and form techniques, and several written apologies."
Harry nodded. He turned, finished his breakfast and the daily grind of classes began again. Thankfully, it was nearly the Christmas Holidays and with Hermione and an impishly grinning Fay; Harry realised he had away out of the Yule Ball and staying in Hogwarts over the Holidays. Competitors HAD TO attend the Yule Ball, but there was nothing to say anything about them having to remain at the location. The fifth, tournament before it was cancelled reported that one of the competitors had attended the Ball, after stating that he was spending his Holiday in South Africa; one of the seven death locations of Wizards with one of them being the Forbidden Forest. The Forbidden Forest; apparently was based on a slight, ever so slight, dimensional fissure. Where it led, no-one wanted to know.
Anyway, when it came to getting back, Harry and Fay could get access to a Time turner. Yes, Hermione and Neville were sceptical about such frivolous usage of such a dangerous device but it could and would suffice. The four of them were going to have those two weeks in Japan to study Fuuinjutsu and brush up on Thaumaturgy. As for the Egg; it had taken a swim in the Prefect Baths for the clue to be revealed.
(Time skip, day of the Yule Ball)
It was time, Japan had been warm. The studying had been most effective but strenuous. The four teens had thrown themselves whole-heartedly into the borderline torturous teaching. The tutor arrived promptly at 6:30am and they studied from 6:45am until nearly 6pm. It wasn't until the Professor explained that in Japan; students could not call themselves capable in a subject unless they could perform the spells; on a whim at any time, morning, noon, night and unsociable hours.
Harry, would quickly realise that this method of teaching would save his life. It wasn't really two weeks of pure studying but rather a week of solid lecturing and a week of practising and honing their week long crash course. Harry, found himself strangely gifted towards the art. His skill in manipulating particularly the more destructive characters and kanji of fuuinjutsu defensively as well as offensively was something that the Professor found impressive. Where Harry was good with the explosive and anything that required more magical power to manipulate, the subtle things he was not.
Hermione found herself able to manipulate subtle fuuinjutsu formulae into explosive and dangerous offensive and defensive; with a small amount of skill in raw power explosive arrays like Harry.
Fay, relied more on trickery and misdirection with simpler and intermediate fuuinjutsu.
Neville, once they'd broken him out of his shell and insecurities they found that his specialities were barrier fuuinjutsu. They were, quick enough to set up to off-set Hermione and Fay but also ridiculously strong enough to withstand Harry's brute force attacks.
Now the four of them were back in Hogwarts. "You looking forward to this?" Fay asked him.
"Only that I'm dancing with the most beautiful girl in the room…But other than that, no."
Aside from dancing more or less the entire night away, with the Weird Sisters rounding out the night with a good cover of 'Dancing in the Moonlight'. No instances happened, thankfully, Ron had remained at the edge of the even the entire evening watching them with jealousy but for the quartet, the objects of his jealousy they didn't care. They had each other, they had a wider network of friends and acquaintances.
Ron watched his former friends move away. He shook his head, ever since he had been ditched; he had gone off the rails but thankfully. He smirked to himself, he had found something he was good at. They would pay, oh they would pay. He'd have to deal with Granger first, then Dunbar, then Longbottom and then Harry.
He could feel his temper getting the better of him, so Ron turned and walked out. Unbeknownst to him, his departure, like the other early departures had been noticed by the staff. It was strange for Mr. Weasley to leave early, especially with all of the free-food, but McGonagall resolved she'd get to the bottom of that when term resumed.
It had struck midnight and eventually, Harry, Fay, Hermione and Neville were on a disorientating, disjointed and deliriously long portkey back to the Potter Residence in Japan. The rest of their holiday, they spent touring Japan. Due to their sleeping, in the day and exploring by night, the young witches and wizards were able to study in the night; using a 'Draught of refreshing', which simulated REM sleep, but became less effective over time, they toured the closest magical and mundane sights of Japan. But eventually all good things come to an end.
(Second Task)
The moment, the quartet had returned to Hogwarts; the Ministry of Magic and Dumbledore had already set Harry off yet again. Only this time, Professor's Flitwick and Snape were on scene.
"Filius, Mr. Potter…In." Drawled Snape. Flitwick raised an eyebrow, the two members of staff and barely controlled student entered. Snape; put up several wards and illusions of his own. "Mr. Potter; I had no idea that Dumbledore would agree to this so quickly."
Harry's eyes more yellow than green, nodded at the Professor "Sorry, for my explosion before Christmas…Appearances must be maintained."
Snape nodded "Appearances must be maintained; as is the way of a multi-agent."
"That is the way." Flitwick chimed in "So, Severus, you and Mr. Potter are working together?"
"To an extent. During a rendering of a Basilisk, the Professor and I came to realise we are merely puppets on a puppeteer's strings. Our, my intention is to sever our strings and bring down the puppeteer as well."
Flitwick nodded "You have worked out where you need to be for the Second Task?"
Harry smirked "The massive stands on the Blacklake gave it away…I have a plan made; I just need three days to get my plan in place."
"Do we want to know?"
"Links and chains. Links and chains."
"And if anyone protests." Flitwick cautioned.
Harry, pulled out a twitching, thrashing and writhing ball of electricity "Lightning magic all around. With a little bit of wind and water as well."
"Mr. Potter, you do know that you can't sort out all complaints with battle."
"I know. However, most of my problems seem to be solved practically, with it."
Soon enough, after a near animagus transformation, the three left. Harry headed up to his Dormitory and counted down the weeks until the second task.
(Second Task)
It was bitingly cold; the Second Task was here. Harry pulled on a wetsuit, his wand on his wrist. A supply bag was positioned just outside of the starting area. Harry's plan was simple; get the bag, swim back and extract Fay that way.
"Champions take your marks, get set, launch!" Declared Bagman joyfully. Harry might have been the youngest but he was the second one into the water; after Fleur surprisingly. Harry swore, the water was shallower than he had expected but he found the black bag.
"Oh it seems, our youngest champion has found something and is returning. The hostages are further in!" The crowd chuckled.
Harry quashed his temper and the ground beneath his feet and knee cracked into splinters "Sonorous. Bagman; please do us a favour you simpleton, shut up and let me concentrate so you people MIGHT learn something."
Harry pulled a dark stone; he had less swum, more convinced Fay to mould the water into a whirlpool and had sucked him down into the Merfolk Village. There had been a tense conversation; four near stabbings and one case of electrical discharge before everyone stood down. Harry had cast several charms to tell him which one the champions were tied to and had taken ten fragments and imbued them with his magic. He left one half by the plinths and had placed the others in the black bag.
He laid the stones out and placed his hand on them, then let his magic flow. He could hear the gasps as his magic became visible to the naked eye, currently his magic was green. He pressed the first, it was green, the second was green, as were the third and fourth. When he grabbed the fifth, his green aura flashed a resplendent gold.
"Found…now for the next part."
Harry, jumped onto the water, focusing on the pressure and the movements of the supposed still water in the Black Lake. He placed the black stone in the water and he began to chant. "Pair, find pair link and bind. Pair, find pair link and bind." The language he was speaking was an earlier form of what would become the Russian Language.
The crowd watched as Harry, still encased in his golden aura began to chant and everyone felt the intense magical pressure, but surprisingly Neville, Dean and Seamus could clearly see the magical chains forming off Harry, linking him and going out into the Black Lake "Neville…"
"That's Thaumaturgy; a frowned upon art. It's primarily linking and pairing magic; most magical weddings especially the rings have thaumaturgical properties."
"Why's it frowned upon? You're link…Oh." It was Dean, pairing things was useful, he had been avid comic book fan, still was. He knew of Firestorm; the twinned fusion hero. The hero that required two people to form; and the fact that the link between them could be manipulated.
"Harry's pairing something, then can going to manipulate the chain to retrieve it."
Seamus nodded "Sounds right. He's going to get flack for it."
Back with Harry, he grinned as the last link landed around Fay and her pillar "Now, comes the hard bit. Ice Magic: Restraint Style: Ice Orb of Heavenly Entrapment."
Ice Magic was relatively tricky to manipulate due to the fact that the Wind Magic was known to slice and shred, with water well being able to bludgeon and is used hard enough to pierce bodies. Harry got it right, due to the consistency of the ice, it and the pillar rose to the surface. With a subtle movement, he cancelled the thaumaturgy causing the ice to drift towards him.
"Oh ho, another fantastic display of magic from our young Champion. Now, how is he going to free her."
Harry tuned out Bagman, reached into the bag and pulled out a chisel and hammer, with five deft strikes water quickly spilt out and waking Fay up. "Wh…where am I? What's going on?"
"Fay, it's me. It's Harry. You were used in the 2nd Task of the Tournament; I got you out using…"
"Ice Orb of Heavenly Entrapment. You've drained the water, waking me up. Now you're going to free me…You've rescued me, let me do this…I did pick up a trick or two." With that Fay rolled forwards, Harry's watery shadow covering her and she disappeared.
Bagman watched as Harry's shadow convulsed and Fay reappeared in his arms. "Well, due to exceptional planning and wonderful usage of…"
"Thaumaturgy…" With that everything went absolutely crazy.
