Maggie didn't really like the idea of involving Kara in this investigation, but she also felt like she had no choice in the matter. Yes, she used her and Superman to put pressure on Bobby, but she figured that would be the extent of it until she at least located the alien they were looking for.

Kara however didn't see it that way.

After talking with Bobby, Kara had come to Maggie's place that night.

"When are we going to this clinic?" she asked without preamble as she walked in.

"We? There is no we here," Maggie said. "Like I said before, this isn't a revenge mission."

"I understand that," Kara said. "But you needed me to deal with that drug dealer and I can't continue to sit on the sidelines on this. I want to help. I'll let you call the shots."

Maggie raised her eyebrow to show that she doubted that.

"I need to do something," Kara said.

"I get that," Maggie responded. "But this is a police investigation."

"You weren't saying that when you needed my help."

Maggie sighed, "Kara, I wouldn't have used you for that if I could have thought of another way around it. And I appreciate your help there, but to be honest, I'm not even sure what this is all about. So far, this isn't adding up to anything that makes sense. I thought this was simple – alien breaks into a clinic to steal drugs – yes, weird, but theft at least makes some sense. But why would an alien be stealing drugs for a human and a pregnant woman at that? I mean why couldn't this woman just go to a clinic herself and get what she needs? There are a lot of unanswered questions here."

"Which is why I want to help," Kara said. "Come on, I'm a reporter, I know how to get answers to questions. Please, I need to do something because right now there is nothing I can do for Alex."

"Fine, you can help," Maggie relented. "But you will do exactly as I say."

That is how Maggie ended up in her car with Kara inside the pregnancy clinic.

Even getting to this point was enough to make Maggie want to give up ever working with a partner. Despite saying she would do as Maggie said, Kara had a comment or question about everything every step of the way.

The original plan was for Maggie to go into the clinic, show her badge, ask some questions, and Kara was to stay outside and use her super hearing to listen if the people she talked to got spooked after talking to her and said anything or contacted anyone. Kara immediately took issue with that. She didn't think it was a good idea for her to put them on the defensive. Maggie told her that she wasn't intending on going in guns blazing but she also knew that regardless of whether anyone there was up to something illegal seeing a cop would automatically put them on edge.

That is why Kara suggested she be the one to go in and ask questions first.

Maggie didn't want to agree to it, but the more she thought about it – and the more Kara pouted about it (something she planned on talking to Alex about) – she finally decided to give Kara the opening shot at it. She figured that if Kara struck out at least Maggie might have a better idea of who at the clinic she would be dealing with on this in a more official capacity.

She was finding that Kara did like to ask questions.

Before Kara went into the clinic, she was sitting in the car with Maggie as they went over some last-minute details.

"When are you going to tell Alex about this?" Kara asked.

"I hadn't planned on it until I had something more concrete to go on," Maggie said. "I figured she is going to want to jump in and get involved once she finds out and she's got enough on her mind right now."

"That is sort of the same excuse for why you won't tell her you have feelings for her," Kara said.

"It's not an excuse," Maggie replied. "The only thing she should be concerned about right now is adjusting to her new reality."

"I think you should tell her," Kara said. "Not just about all of this, but about how you feel about her."

"No."

"Why not? You have feelings for her, she has feelings for you."

"And she is dating someone," Maggie said. "She has already said that she isn't even sure about having a relationship right now with all she is going through. I'm not going to put added pressure on her by telling her how I feel."

"Yes, but she's feeling pretty low right now and even knowing you are interested in her like that could boost her spirits," Kara responded.

Maggie looked over at her. "She doesn't need me complicating things right now. Look, if she and I are to ever have that conversation, it's going to be between the two of us and it's going to have to happen when someone else isn't in the picture. She likes Cass and if that is who she wants to be with, I'm not going to do anything to jeopardize that for her. End of discussion."

She could tell that Kara didn't want it to be the end of the discussion, but Maggie wasn't giving her a choice in the matter.

Thankfully, Kara did leave it alone and then finally went into the clinic, leaving Maggie alone with her own thoughts. Maybe telling Alex about the case wouldn't be a bad idea, she thought. Alex could at least lend her thoughts to it and maybe that level of involvement would be good for her.

Then again, she thought, there was no way that Alex would be able to sit back and not do anything. Hell, if she knew about this, she'd be sitting in the car right now with her waiting on Kara.

She picked up her phone and hit Alex's name. After a few rings, Alex answered.

"Hey Danvers," Maggie said. "Got a moment."

"I have plenty of moments," Alex said. "What's up?"

"I was wondering if I could stop by later."

"Tonight?"

"Yeah, if that works. Not a big deal if it doesn't."

"That actually doesn't."

"Oh. Well, what about tomorrow night?" Maggie said. "I can bring pizza."

"Sounds good," Alex said.

"Ok, well I'll check with you tomorrow to see what time is best," Maggie said. They both hung up after saying good-bye and Maggie thought, there now I at least will go see her and maybe by then I can decide about telling her about the case. The case was the only thing she was considering telling her.

It didn't matter how she felt about Alex, she swore she wasn't going to cross that line right now.

Maggie ended up waiting a lot longer on Kara than she expected but she finally came out and got into the car, but told Maggie to wait and Kara sat there silently. Maggie was guessing she was listening for something.

They probably sat there for another 10 minutes before Kara told her she could go.

As soon as she put the car in drive, she asked Kara what she found out.

"There is definitely something going on there," Kara said. "At first, I was just talking with one of the staff members while I was waiting on the director and everything was normal, cordial. But the moment the director got there, her heartbeat was spiking. She was nervous, but trying not to show it. The other staff member who is a case manager graciously volunteered to give me a tour and you could tell the director wasn't happy about that, but allowed it. The director was there the entire time."

Kara went onto to describe the clinic and how woman who qualify could go there for reproductive services and they used sliding scale fees, but with grant money many of their clientele paid very little. They often saw women from the moment they learned of their pregnancy all the way to birth. Services included everything from birth control, to pregnancy tests, pre-natal care and working with the women to ensure they were connected to services after giving birth such as food pantries, clothing closets and anything and everything they could need.

"It's really a great thing they are doing here for the women," Kara said. "They even partner with some adoption agencies if a woman wants to go that route. They get state funding, grant funding and private donations."

"So, what did you find out that makes you believe something is going on besides the director being nervous?" Maggie asked.

"I asked about medications and how they ensure that the women are getting what they need and the director immediately jumped into the conversation saying that they follow all state and federal guidelines and have all their documentation," Kara said. "Even the case manager looked at her like why are you saying that. The case manager then explained that they have doctors on staff and they examine the women and make sure they are getting prescribed anything that is needed and as case manager her job is to follow up with the clients to make sure there are no issues."

"Well, if they are using drugs taken from another source like Bobby then they would definitely need to keep that off the books," Maggie said. "Anything else?"

"I think they have some of the drugs there now," Kara said. "When I left, the director went back to her office and made a phone call. I don't know who was on the other line, but she told them they needed to come pick their stuff up tonight and get it out of there."

"I guess we'll be coming back tonight," Maggie said. "But I'm going to say this once. We are coming back here to observe. We don't make a single move – or rather Supergirl doesn't make a single move unless I give the order. Do you understand?"

"If the alien that hurt Alex shows up, I'm not going to sit there and do nothing," Kara said.

"I swear, I will turn this car around right now, march back into that clinic, tell them what you were really up to and that we know about this pick up, and ruin the whole thing if you don't agree to follow my lead on this," Maggie said. "There is something going on here that is bigger than one alien and what he did to Alex. Until we know what that is, I won't have you swooping in and ruining any chance we have to figure out what is going on. Now what's it going to be?"

Kara was silent for a moment and Maggie knew it was with great reluctance that she finally agreed.

Alex answered the door to Cass, who surprised her by taking her hand and then kissing her. She tried not to flinch but couldn't help it.

"Sorry," Cass said.

"It's ok," Alex said, who had not gotten used to people touching her.

"How are you?" Cass asked after Alex shut the door.

"Good," she replied. She noticed Cass hadn't moved toward the living room and she wondered if she was waiting on Alex to move first.

Alex started to move, but Cass said wait.

"What is it?" Alex said.

"I was wondering if before we order dinner, if you wanted to go for a walk," Cass said. "Nothing long, maybe just a walk around the block. You haven't been outside and I thought maybe it would be a good idea to go outside for a bit."

Alex hesitated which didn't go unnoticed by Cass.

"Come on," Cass said, taking her hand once more. "I will be right there beside you the whole time. I think it will be good for you to get outside just for a little while."

Cass released her hand and the next thing Alex knew she was taking it again, but this time she was putting something in it. It took Alex a moment to realize it was the walking cane.

"I can't," Alex backing up a step and holding the cane out for Cass to take back. "I'm not ready."

She heard Cass sigh, but she also took the walking stick back.

"You have to go outside of this apartment at some point," Cass said.

"I know," Alex responded. "And I will when I'm ready. It's still all just a bit much for me."

"I understand," Cass said. "I didn't mean to pressure you."

"I know you mean well," Alex said giving her a small smile. "That means a lot to me."

"Well, when you are ready, I will be right there with you."

Maggie really hoped Kara would keep her word as they staked out the clinic that night. She was only giving it a 50-50 chance that Kara would indeed listen to her and not go off half-cocked (well maybe more like 60-40).

She did think it was useful to have Kara there because without a doubt her super powers would give them an edge.

But here they were sitting in Maggie's car which was parked across the street from the clinic, but with a view of the back side of the building, which is where she figured anyone showing up this late at night would use for entering or leaving. Plus, it wasn't like Kara couldn't zip around to the front if needed.

Maggie was certainly getting a feel for exactly what Kara's metabolism was like as they waited. She had already eaten two full-size subs and had complained she was still hungry not even 40 minutes later. It made Maggie wonder how much money the Danvers family spent on food when Kara was growing up.

Kara was also a talker – not sitting in silence for very long stretches. She asked Maggie a variety of questions from what her favorite color was to what her favorite stakeout food was. Thankfully, she didn't ask Maggie any questions that were on the personal side.

Maggie didn't figure there was any way for her to get Kara to be quiet, so she took the opportunity to do a little interrogating of her own.

"Before all of this, how had Alex been?"

Kara looked over at her, surprised or so it seemed that Maggie would ask about Alex.

"She's been happy," Kara said. "I mean since she came out, she's been happier. I've heard people say it's like a weight coming off your shoulders when you come out, but until Alex did it, I don't really think I knew what that meant."

"I'm glad to hear that. She deserves happiness," Maggie said. "It meant a lot to me that I could be a small part of her journey of self-discovery."

"I wouldn't downplay your part in that," Kara said. "If she hadn't met you, who knows how things would have ended up."

Kara paused a moment before saying, "I was really angry with you for breaking her heart though. Like wanting to launch you into the sun angry."

Maggie's eyes went wide at that. She hadn't really considered that Supergirl would ever express such an idea.

"I don't think I really got over it until you showed up to help her," Kara said. "When you stayed when you could have left. For the record that is also when I decided you had my permission to date my sister."

"Thanks, I think," Maggie said. "Wait, do you not like Cass?'

Kara shrugged. "I haven't been around her much, but I think she is a good person. I looked into her a little bit when they started dating and she seems very committed to the law."

"But?"

"She's Alex's first real girlfriend," Kara said. "And I think since Alex is still relatively new to all this that Cass sort of takes control. Not in a bad way, but I don't know, I just think Alex could do better."

"And you honestly think better is me?"

"Until you break her heart again and then well, I hope you like heights," Kara smiled.

Maggie was having a hard time reconciling sweet little Kara Danvers with this Kara who could if she really wanted to do the things she was threatening.

"Someone's coming," Kara said pointing to a car that pulled up to the backside of the clinic.

Maggie picked up her camera and began shooting pictures. Just because this was an unorthodox stakeout didn't mean she wasn't going to document what was going on. If she needed a warrant signed later she would have to provide proof of her investigation.

The car was an older model Chevy Malibu and a man got out of the driver's seat and approached the door and knocked. He wasn't looking around or anything and seemed quite casual. The door opened and Maggie saw a woman there in the doorway.

"That's the clinic director," Kara said.

The director handed him a box, which took two arms for him to carry and he balanced it with his leg as he opened the trunk of the car and placed it in there. Once he was done, he again approached the woman who appeared to talking rather heatedly with him.

"What is she saying?" Maggie asked.

"She's telling him that he can't use the clinic anymore for these types of shipments. He is arguing that it's needed, but she said they can't risk the clinic's license and standing in the community," Kara said. "She says that there is no reason why the women can't come to the clinic like any other woman in need. He says you know they can't and he is asking her to reconsider and that these women need help. She said she knows, but she can't risk it and she's sorry."

Maggie watched as the man walked way dejected and got into his car. Once he was pulling away she too pulled out of her hiding spot and began to follow him.

"What was in the box, could you see from that distance?" Maggie said.

"Drugs – prenatal medications, plus vitamins and some baby formula."

The car only traveled about seven blocks away before stopping in front a building – an apartment building. Maggie had to pull farther up but was able to see in her mirror the guy go into the building with the box.

She turned to Kara, "go do your thing."

Kara got out of the car and looked around before jogging into a nearby alley. Maggie assumed she was using it to change into Supergirl. She had already instructed her that this was only a surveillance mission and that was all she was to do – observe.

There wasn't much Maggie could do but sit there and consider the words that the man and clinic director had said to each other. The man must be taken the items from the box to women who needed it based on what he said, but who were these women and why couldn't they just visit the clinic? And how did an alien fit into all of this?

When Kara returned, Maggie immediately asked her what she found out.

"Not much. He went into what I assume is his apartment and made a phone call to someone. Basically, reiterated the conversation with the clinic director. Whoever was on the other line was a woman and she told him they would figure it out. He asked what he should do with the stuff, and she said she would send someone over to get it in a few days and that they were good on supplies at the moment. Then he sat on his couch and turned on the tv."

"Great, so we still don't have any concrete answers," Maggie said.

"What's the next step?"

"I don't know," Maggie said. "I need to think it through."
