In a dark room, two Rocket agents stood, waiting on the boss. While they had achieved their mission of robbing the pokemon center of their pokemon, they had been seen.

"If we don't say anything, do you think he would know?" the blue-haired male asked his female friend

"You know as well as I do that there's no lying to the boss. No, we'll have to tell the truth."

"An excellent suggestion."

The female rocket shivered as she realized the boss they had been talking about was behind them, probably having been there for some time.

"Tell me."

"Everything was going to plan at the Pokemon Center until this black-haired kid walked in. He knew right away that I wasn't a Nurse Joy and we battled. I'm ashamed to say he got the better of me by having me chase him into the Pikachu power supply room and then having his Pikachu thunderbolt me with the rest. I was knocked out by the electricity overload but feigned unconsciousness. When the boy went to help Nurse Joy I took the opportunity to finish our mission there and get out before they could come back with backup."

"Would you recognize this boy if I showed you his picture?"

"Absolutely."

"Good."

He left her there in the dark, although she wasn't sure she was truly alone as she went through the pictures, easily picking out the one of the dark-haired young trainers.

"We had better not meet again, next time you won't be so lucky"

'Pikachu' had started a fight with his new Pikachu the moment he tried to take it out of its new Pokeball to show it to his new team, whom he had decided that he would be training for a bit in order for them to get used to having him for a trainer.

"I'm not replacing you, you are my starter and you're stuck with me now." As soon as Ash set down the rules for 'Pikachu' it seemed to calm down around the other Pikachu, or at least stopped shooting it dirty looks as Ash sent the other Pikachu to work on learning Iron Tail on some rocks that were around the battlefield just out back of the Pokemon Center.

He had put weights on Spearow's wings to help it learn to fly faster as well as having Rattata learning dig and assigning 'Pikachu' to mock battling Magikarp with the hope of having Magikarp become more resistant to electric attacks for when he'd be a Gyarados. But it wasn't just the Pokemon who were training.

Ash was also running around the battlefield, with weights on as well. He knew that a lot of trainers didn't bother with training their bodies, instead, they relied on dumb luck and then blaming the Pokemon every time they lost. Not him, he had been studying Pokemon ever since he had seen his first Pokemon League match. He knew he wasn't ever going to be as smart as Gary or Professor Oak, at least in school knowledge, but he loved Pokemon, and he knew that if he wanted to be a champion on Lance's level, then he had to train with his Pokemon. He was on his third lap of the battlefield when he noticed a battle had started at the battlefield next to him.

"Charmander, ember!"

"Poliwhirl, Bubblebeam!"

Ash watched as the trainer with the Charmander lost easily to the better-trained Poliwhirl, and then frowned as he watched said trainer kick the Charmander.

"You stupid thing! Can't even win one battle!"

Without even thinking Ash found himself standing in front of the trainer as he raised his foot to stomp down on the downed Charmander.

"Don't even think about it!" Ash grabbed the leg, twisting it so that he spun the boy to the ground.

"What was that for?" the boy asked as Ash glared at him, standing in front of the Charmander so that it would be safe.

"Your Charmander deserves better than you."

"That weakling has been a problem since day one. I shoulda just left it behind long ago!" Then the boy did something surprising, he stood up, and crushed the Charmander's Pokeball under his foot, "Goodbye!"

He left before Ash could do anything more than stare after him. The Charmander looked after the boy, tears in its eyes as the realization hit it that its trainer had destroyed its Pokeball.

"Hey, it's ok, don't cry, don't give him the satisfaction. If he can't see what a great Pokemon you are, then he's the crazy one. You know, I really wanted a Charmander as my starter, not that I'm not glad that I got something different mind you, but you should know that any trainer would love to have you."

The Charmander looked up with hope in its eyes as it trudged up to Ash, as if pleading with him, "DO...Do you want to come with me?" The Charmander nodded, and didn't fight as Ash tapped a Pokeball to its head, smiling to himself, "I caught a Charmander!"
