All the older students were cooing at us like babies and commenting on how cute we all looked. I personally don't see it, but whatever makes them want kids after they graduate... The stern looking professor led us towards the front and had us stand in two lines. In front of us, there was an old and worn looking witch's hat on a stool that suddenly shook and spoke,

"Welcome first years

Hold back your tears

For I'm just a Thinking Cap

Spelled for thousands of years

To sort all the kids who sit under my flap

No tests of strength, bravery, or fears

I, yes, I am to place you in your home for 7 years

Be it Gryffindor,

Whose reputation of pranking and short-mi dedness would have Godric rolling in his grave

Or Hufflepuff,

Whose reputation of kindness is smothered by minced words and ridicule

How about Ravenclaw,

Whose wisdom is replaced by gossiping trots

or the House of Slytherin,

Whose reputation was tarnished by generations kissing the feet of a Dark Lord with damning ambition over the pure and all

Make no mistake my dear firsties,

This is not what the houses actually are

I knew the Great Founders and their dreams for their houses

Each house to be a home away from home

But in the past century, I must admit...

I haven't sorted truthfully at all.

House Gryffindor,

meant to be a house of bravey yes,

but not of foolery and bullies

but to stand up for family

House Hufflepuff,

meant to be the mediator and sought for neutrality

a home for the truly neutral

House Ravenclaw,

meant to be the house with knowledge and facts

Not heresay or thatsay

Knowing all laws and theories of magic,

Keeping our knowledge flowing

House Slytherin,

meant to be a house for politics and betterment

For the good of all,

Not just yourself,

Ambition to be greater and better than the fool who didn't have any cunning to further our society.

My dear firsties

There's not just light and dark

There is also Grey

For the balance of magic could be broken

How about a world of no magic

No spells or potions

A rather scary notion

But Magick knows all and she's ready to take her gifts back at once

No more influenced sortings,

Or wrongful sortings

For Magick has declared,

EVERY HOGWARTS STUDENT IS TO BE RESORTED OR LOSE THEIR MAGIC FOREVER"

Screams and loud discussion erupted. I noticed the staff at the table were shocked by their expressions. Heated discussion enraptured them as well as the stern professor joined them and everyone was shouting. My dear cousin looked so confused, as did all the other first years. Keeping Draco's hand in mine, I grabbed Potter's with my free hand and pulled us to the back of the Great Hall. The other first years saw and quickly began to follow. Seeing us move away from the Hat, the other students began to shush. Their eyes darting between us huddled closlely to the closed hall doors and the still discussing professors. The Hat sighed loudly and called,

"I will start with the 7th years

if you do not come up

by time your name is called 3 times

your makic will be gone

for Hogwarts knows how sorting goes

and if you aren't sorted

you will be booted

out of the castle and into the Forbidden Forest."

Rapidly, all the 7th years came from their seats and stood in front of us before making their way towards the Hat. The professors now silent, realizing there was nothing they could do possibly. Everyone watched with baited breaths.

7th Years:

80: 20 per house

76 were resorted into different houses

2 refused to be resorted

6th Years:

76: 19 per house

70 were resorted into different houses

1 refused to be resorted

5th Years:

64: 17 per house

50 were resorted into different houses

No one refused to be resorted

4th Years:

60: 16 per house

54 were resorted into different houses

No one refused to be resorted

3rd Years:

52: 13 per house

47 were resorted into different houses

No one refused to be resorted

2nd Years:

44: 11 per house

43 were resorted into different houses

No one refused to be resorted

Some of the older students were crying, others were shell-shocked at their new houses. Ron Weasley himself was crying for his brothers,

"Mum's going to be sending howler's. Percy in Ravenclaw, she'll be proud. But Fred AND George in Slytherin? She'll die. Merlin's beard! What house am I going to be sorted in?! My family has always been in Gryffindor!"

Several other pureblood and half-blood firsties were saying the same in more or less words regarding their own families. Harry Potter stood silent and pondering next to me. I gently squeezed his hand to get his attention. Those vibrant green eyes staring at me,

"Listen Harry. The Hat will sort you where you need to be for your sake. Not where you want to be. As we just witnessed, a whole lot of students were sorted wrong and look where they are now. Dazed, confused, hurt, angry. We are all lucky, our year. We will be sorted properly for the sake of our well-being, not our pride."

When all the older students got more settled, we made our wayback to the front. Already tired from standing so long for an uncertain amount of hours due to the resorting, we were more than ready to face our sorting fates.

Everyone of us was shocked that our friends or relative did not get into the same house. The Patil twins were distraught. Draco was staring at me with puppy eyes from the Ravenclaw table. Ron looked around the hall to his brothers and Harry, confused from his place at Hufflepuff table. Harry sat next to me, avoiding the judging and some hostile eyes directed at him from every house. Placing a hand on his upper shoulder, I blinked at Draco an apology before speaking to Harry,

"You'll do great. This is where you are meant to be. They are mad and disappointed with you because they had an image of how you should be in their minds. But the thing is Harry, you don't need to be anyone but yourself."

As if on cue, the Hat shook awake just as the Headmaster was about to speak,

"Yes, yes

This is how it should have been

This is how it will be

No more prejudice between houses

No more bullying or fights

What causes evil other than dark will?

Anger, resentment, seeking revenge for those who call their torment fun and will for power over all others

I still regret wrongfully sorting that Riddle boy

For if he and some of his year had been sorted anywhere else

The Dark Lord Voldemort would not have been born in these halls

There is nothing to fear from that name children

For he was a Halfblood like many of you.

Except he was conceived under a love potion

Magick is stricken buy the mutilation of her gift and hereby forbids the creation and use of such a rape of the mind, body, and emotions

Magick has forbid Tom Riddle's magic from ever restoring...

No more ressurections and every essence of his soul is hereby removed, as well as for those who would violate the laws of Magick."

All students were stunned to silence but for one professor with a turban on his head. His eyes rolled into the back of his skull and his mouth was foaming. His body was convulsing as hisses erupted from his head. That can't be right...but it was. Black mist was erupting from under his turban. More and more violently his body shook as the hiss was sharp and angry until the professor dropped face first into the table completely still. Until a large cloud with an anguished and mutilated face took form and rapidly ricocheted against all the walls of the Great Hall. I noticed one of the professor's lightly shaking and trying to control his mortified expression. Black mist subtly seeping from his sleeve. Movement caught my eyes, beside me Harry was shking too. His green eyes locked on the black mist in the hall. The mist formed a face and immediately looked at Harry. Unbound anger on its face as it hissed and shocked quickly showed as mist was erupting from Harry's scare and rejoined the misty face. Once all the dark stuff was gone from Harry, anger came to the mists face. The sneer on his faceturned even more sinister as he opened his moith to speak but instead of words, light began to shine through its darkness and a high shriek rang through the hall as the light become blinding. Everyone averted their eyes until the bright light faded. The Hat spoke once more for the night,

"With that my dears

The Dark Lord is gone

Never to return from the beyond

No more coming danger

For years to come

The time for peace has begun."
