A/N: There's another note at the end of this for those reading my fics on hiatus!

Flaunting

Eleniel: 19

Eleniel had been holding the same expression for the past five minutes, and her face was beginning to grow tired. Still nodding every few seconds, she discreetly flicked her eyes over to her father, who looked no less mystified sat on a seat in the corner. He met his daughter's gaze and shook his head as much as he could without making it seem obvious.

He was of course all too used to the often-bewildering stories his people came up with during the occasional times he would arrange an assembly to listen to their plights and see if, as Lord, there was anything he could do to help. Granted, most times people would simply bring up monetary issues or arguments with neighbours, but sometimes the most absurd stories would leave him utterly lost for words – he could still remember the utter pain keeping in his laughter had caused him during that one time a young ellon had honestly believed he deserved compensation from another ellon who had broken a leg of his chair. A leg. Of his chair.

Eleniel's growing years had caused him to believe she should start leading these assemblies herself – with him in the room for support, of course. He had done the same with his sons many years ago, and Eleniel was no different. Interacting with her people was as important as any other thing she was required to do as a Lady of Rivendell.

This was her last one. Everyone else before had been perfectly sane and had presented her with rational problems she had discovered could be easily fixed. This human, however – a man from a settlement just outside Rivendell's borders – had talked with her for around ten minutes about trading opportunities before suddenly and unexplainably turning the subject on the vast wealth he had recently accumulated after his rich father died. How he had done it, Eleniel couldn't quite remember, but for the past few minutes she had been silently listening with forced interest, nodding at probably all the wrong moments and biting her lip so hard she'd probably dented it.

Elrond looked no different, and he was clearly readying himself to intervene. Obviously, this human believed his treasure would appeal to Eleniel and she would get on her knees there and then and ask her to marry him.

He rose an eyebrow at the mere thought and swiftly rose to his feet. "Alright, I do believe your time is up."

The man stopped mid-sentence and turned wide eyes on the ellon who came to stand beside his daughter. "But, my lord-"

Elrond tilted his head down dangerously and the man spared one last glance at Eleniel before bowing awkwardly and hurrying out of the room.

Eleniel let out a sigh. "Thank you," she said. "I wasn't quite sure what to do."

Her father chuckled and kissed her forehead, moving to pick up some papers by the table. "I have come across too many of those people not to know what to do. You did well today, by the way. I am very proud."

Eleniel smiled. "I'm glad. May I leave?"

"Yes."

"I shall see you later. I must tell Daeron I am to be married to a rich human and moving to live in his settlement to have lots of babies!" And she raced off, leaving Elrond to question many of his life choices.

Hello. Quick announcement (I say quick *rolls eyes* XD). I am editing all my stories on this site (I've done every one except a few LotR ones, now). Rivendell's Star will be last as there will likely be a lot that needs doing. Anyway; as soon as the editing is done, I will be going back into my stories that still need finishing and actually finishing them. Forever Mine, Hunters at Heart (you hear that, Lin?!) & Little Lion Man will likely be first as they only need one or so chapters each – the stories like Living in Regret and Hidden in These Lies will come a little later, only because I started those when I was very young and was a little ahead of myself considering I really didn't have a plot outline for them at all. XD Nevertheless, yes, they will all be completed.

I know I've been away from my Tolkien stuff for a long while, now. Don't get me wrong – LotR and TH are still my favourite things in existence ever (I finished a monthly marathon of all 6 movies yesterday!) I've just been a lot more focused on other things. I've finished school, am going into a gap year and being interviewed for a new job next week in preparation for Uni (where I am going to study Creative Writing & Journalism!), I am starting to learn to drive, and on top of that my dear dad has been very ill and in and out of hospital. (Please pray for him if you believe in that sort of stuff. He still needs it more than ever).

Also, for those reading Living in a World Built for Men (my Musketeers fanfic) I will also be completing that. Currently I am in the middle of writing chapter 8!

Thank you all for reading and sticking with me this far! Onwards and upwards. ~ Gre3nleaf
