"And to Vincent go the spoils!" Vince laughed out as he officially passed from the Route into the city, quickly bending over and breathing heavily. "Oh Arceus, I am out of shape… So! So so so, uh… Walter, what are you gonna do? Just head straight to the Gym, or what? Why did we just rush here instead of you training?"
"Because," I answer, stepping off my board, "I wanted to do a race. One I am definitely not salty that I lost." I was a little salty. I glanced back seeing the rest leisurely walking into the town, the others talking amongst themselves. "Man… We sure did get ahead of everyone. Probably good, cuz I wanna bring something up."
"Yeah?"
"So, with the Vision stuff. You're already kinda on my shit list for that, but the way you threw them under the bus… that was actually kind of cool. Proud of you for clearly going against what was wrong."
Vince looked at me for a moment before a wide smile coming on his face. "That… that was honestly the best thing anyone has ever told me. I don't think anyone's ever actually been proud of me before."
That was one hell of a bombshell. "Oh, uh… you're welcome? Look, I'm just saying you did a good thing. I'll keep giving you shit about Vision, but just know I have some respect in you." I give him a pat on the back, looking out to the city. "Now… where would the Gym be?" I turned to Vincent who only shrugged a little, clearly as lost as I am. "Might as well wait for the others, makes looking less boring."
My theory was correct, as when everyone had gotten together again we started just casually chatting. It was a moment I enjoyed, it had little planning or talk about Vision or even the Gyms. Candice talked about Alola, as it turns out Vincent was a contest winner in another region, and Dallas talked on and on about how his communication research is some of the best of any Professor. He was full of himself, but he deserves it at the moment. Basically, just filling in basic gaps in time and each learning about other. It was calming. Relaxing. The setting definitely helped, this beautiful city surrounded by woods, the love architecture. Definitely put Johto to shame.
At least, this time was relaxing, before there was the sound of someone calling for help from a large building down the main street. Candice goes into her Ranger mode, rushing forward without a single word to the rest of. Us guys looked to each other before just nodding, running behind after her. We catch up just in time to hear the back end of the woman in need's explanation.
"-ugly outfits trying to take the Orbs! Again!" The woman explains, looking into what I can now only assume is a museum. "But they threatened to burn the place down this time!"
Candice nodded and turned to us. "You heard the lady, stop what I can only assume are the Vision guys in there! Go!" She rushed in again, followed by us once more. She takes control during these serious situations, which is good because we all take a moment before she shouts out back again, "Hey! Hurry up, dammit!" That was enough to kick us into gear. We ran in after her.
The inside of the museum has more of an old school, I almost want to say rustic look to it, having large fossil reconstructions of ancient Pokémon, giant tapestries of Legendaries hanging on the walls, and to top it all off there were three guys dressed in purple and white outfits that were borderline cornering what must have been a very anxious and nervous museum curator with green hair in the corner. The Vision gang had out a Vulpix, Dedenne, and a Mawile, while the only Pokémon on the green guy's side was a pretty tough looking Gallade.
We look to each other before nodding, me stepping up with Blue by my side and shouting out, "Hey! Step away from the nerd!" Blue quickly jumped in front and flared out his claws.
Dallas stood next to me. "And he isn't talking about me, I'm not the only nerd here! Jet, get in there!"
"Aye, laddie! Let's show these goons who's boss!" Jet's collar let out as he rushed forward.
Vincent walked up next. "Let's go! These fools ain't stealing any history while we're here! I'm too much of a history buff for that!" He pulled out a Pokémon and threw out Pincer the Skorupi.
Finally, the Ranger in charge stepped up as well, holding out her arm with her Capture Styler on it. "Scrap! Scare these thieves straight!" She taps a button on the side, causing it to light up a little as the frightening Mimikyu seemed to simply rise from the floor besides the other Pokémon.
Standing all together, the Team Vision members turn back to us, seeming on edge from the new battlers. Before they could respond with anything, the green headed nerd cleared his throat as he lifted up a strange necklace shaped vaguely like a Gallade with a stone in the center. "Pardon me. I thank you for the assistance, but as you can see…" He went quiet and tapped the stone, a glow coming from the necklace and a matching glow overtaking the Gallade as it started to change form. It gets taller, the pointed out parts on its elbows extend and become sharper, and it seems to grow some kind of cape, before the glowing disappears. "Me and Gallade can handle ourselves perfectly fine."
We all look at the Gallade's Mega Evolution, all in a fair bit of confusion on where exactly our duty of care is now. On one hand, we can help but also raise the risk of damaging the museum more than these grunts were going to do. On the other hand, if we do nothing and this Gallade still gets screwed over, that will sort of also be on us. Eventually I finally speak up, despite previously giving the leader position to Candice for this. "Uh, alright. We're still gonna be over here, but I trust you. You seem to know what you're doing."
Green haired kid just laughed at that, looking to Gallade. "Of course I do! As a Gym Leader, I am trained to deal with punks like these!" He held out his arm in a very dramatic fashion, calling to Mega Gallade. "Gallade, show these grunts what happens when you try and steal history! Psycho Cut!"
The Gallade stood straight up, bending and across its body and giving a bow to the grunts, only for the blades on his arms to begin glowing a very vibrant pink all across the length. In one swift and elegant motion he rushed toward the Pokémon and spun, quickly slicing across all three and sensing them flying back into their Trainers who all fell down from the impact. From one quick look it was clear the Pokémon had fainted and were down for the count.
Wally grinned and looked up to us, focusing on Candice. "You're a Ranger, yes? Would you mind calling the Head Ranger and or the police? I would like these thieves to get taken care of. I know I'm the Gym Leader, but I do kinda have to make a report on this." Candice nodded and held up her Styler and, I assumed, called in to the Ranger Station, stepping away as Wally turned to the rest of us. "And you three! Thank you for the help, but I don't really require it now. Um... If you could leave the Museum, please, until this is all taken care of, I promise I can get you all lifetime passes for here!"
Me and Vince kind of just awkwardly look to each other at the announcement of the reward, meanwhile Dallas was absolutely beaming. "Thank you!" He said fast and loud. "Thank you so much, Wally! As a fellow academic, I will not squander this gift!" Man, he is a nerd.
