A/N: This is not a new chapter but an update and sneak peek. Skip to the tl;dr for the basic update.
It's been a while. I want to start by saying I am so sorry for how I disappeared a year ago. It wasn't fair for me to stop with no warning. A few months after I suddenly abandoned this, I did edit in an explanation. I know not everyone would have seen that, so let me quickly explain again. Last year I ran out of motivation to write, and it was getting to the point I was physically getting sick at the thought of continuing this story. That has nothing to do with you guys, and that's not me blaming anyone but my own lousy scheduling habits. I knew writing for fun shouldn't make me feel like that, so I stopped. Still, I am again so sorry for just disappearing.
I love all you guys for reading this fic, and you all have been nothing but kind to me. I am so thankful to you all for waiting so long. I truly appreciate every kind word, every Kudo, and every view. Knowing you guys had been so supportive so far is what kept me writing, even when it wasn't for this specific fic. And thanks to refreshing my brain and having many healthy life changes in the last few months. I am ready and excited to finish this story; no plot summary needed.
Here's the fun part. For now, I will release a chapter on the last Friday of every month starting in July. I am keeping the schedule easy on myself, so I don't get burnt out again. I know it's a long wait, but I want to be assured that I'll get quality chapters out to you guys without putting unneeded pressure on myself again. But I'm working on getting to the point where I can post one chapter a week in a healthy manner. And yes, while we are in the final, I still have more chapters written and planned. I'm so excited for you guys to see this all come together.
Tl;dr, I apologize for suddenly dropping this story. Thank you guys for everything. I'm not dead, and I'm continuing this story! The temporary schedule is posting a new chapter on the last Friday of every month starting July. If you are unsure of the date, check my profile for updates.
And as proof that I am actually writing this, an out-of-context scene :D see you in another month.
The priest, the vizier, the lesser wife, and… Ah, of course. The old fool couldn't make it, having given his soul in penance. So, he sent his monster. What desperation.
That voice. The one that was Yami's own and yet definitely did not originate from him. He hadn't heard anything similar since then, and he hoped never to hear it again. But Yami couldn't help but wonder where it came from. And what did it mean by the old fool?
Yami then looked back out over his family. It was funny; even though he had never thought of any of them with those terms before, he could almost understand what the voice meant. Vizier was definitely for Grandpa, him being such a knowledgeable (if sometimes foolish) teacher for both Yugi, Joey, and Yami. The priest title was for Seto; Yami didn't even need that ancient rock carving of himself battling a priest that looked like Kaiba to know that. But the last term, lesser wife… By process of elimination, Yami thought it was for Yui, but he had no strong feeling like he had for the other two labels. In fact, this touched on a strange thing Yami had been wondering ever since Yui's hospital trip.
The Pharaoh sometimes felt linked to people, not just by normal bonds or anything like his bond with Yugi. People like Grandpa, Seto, Dark Magician, and even strangers like Ishizu. Each of these bonds was different, just as their relationship with himself was different, but fundamentally Yami felt attached to them. He didn't feel that for nearly anyone else, especially Junior or Yui. In fact, if he hadn't been forced to interact with them, he really wouldn't have bothered to get to know Yugi's parents. It's not that Yami didn't like them (well, that part wasn't so true in Junior's case). It was that they weren't… connected to Yami.
Then why did this strange voice know them?
Yami began to feel a familiar headache as he thought through these questions. It was the headache he always got when he tried to remember his past. But Yami trudged on, repeating the strange words. He felt too close to a breakthrough to give up. He could almost grasp the wisps of his memories.
The old fool.
The old fool.
The old fool.
