A/N: I do sincerely apologize for how long it's been since I have updated this story. It's not like the idea, haven't been there; because that's not true. Just the motivation for writing this particular story hasn't been there. But I have been doing a Glee rewatch, and the eps with Marley and Ryder made me inspired again; but also to have made me loathe a lot of Glee even more than I had when I first watched it. (I'd really not watched season 4 onwards, since it was first on; and my lord, near the end on season 6, and with the exception of some of the new characters, I am really despising it so much right now)

Anyway, this chapter does see I will say that of something of a little controversial; since the reasons for Ryder and Marley divorce and why that occurred and the life they both wanted not meshing, being something here now of a possible future for that of Ryder, and him thinking it might not be all that bad.

As always all Glee characters belong to their creators; Sarah and Zoey, both belong to me, with though the exception of the character of Hunter, who I am using from that of another story of mine, where the characters originally originate from the Power Ranger series.

Thanks for reading.

Chapter 18 –

Getting into what he could call a comfortable place with Sarah, in their relationship; and one he'd not really ever felt happened with Marley, in theirs throughout their time as a couple living together and then later as a married couple. Ryder also felt, as well himself bonding too with Zoey; and it made him question himself as to why he not felt the desire to want to have children with Marley, and the reasons behind that.

With his apartment block needing to be fumigated over a few days, during the week, and whilst Sam had offered him the opportunity to stay at the Puckerman household whilst he was unable to live in his own place; Sarah too, also asked if he would like to for the few days the fumigation was going on, if he would like to stay at her house, with both her and Zoey; and weighing up the decision carefully, in the end decided that he would stay the two days with his girlfriend and her daughter, and really take it like somewhat a trial run as to what life with a small child would be like if he were to ever further his relationship with Sarah, who he knew he was definitely falling for.

Finishing up work for the day on Thursday, and having spoken with Sarah that morning, and organizing with her, just what would be happening for the few days that he would be at her place. He also too, agreed to pick up Zoey from school for her, since it was on the way from the job he had on last and would save then Sarah having to make the trip to pick her up, and thus let the younger girl as well get a better grasp also on the fact that he was going to be spending the next few days with them.

Parking his truck, and turning the engine off; Ryder got out of the car and made his way into the elementary school where Zoey went to school, and down the corridor to what he had been told by Sarah was that of her classroom and where he was to pick her up.

Walking past a few women, talking; and where there were also some children, which he assumed were theirs. He walked into the classroom, where the class name of 2F was on the door, and knew to be, from what Sarah had told him, and saw the blonde haired teacher, speaking with some other mothers and also saw as well there was some children still present in the room.

"Hi, excuse me" he said, as the teacher and the other women looked to him. "I'm here to pick up Zoey Woodruff. I think Sarah made mention of it this morning"

"Yes of course" said the blonde teacher with a nod. "Ryder, correct"

"Yes, that's me" he replied, with a smile to her.

"Taylor" she replied, with a smile of her own. "I'm Zoey's teacher"

"Nice to meet you" said Ryder, with a nod as Taylor gave a nod also and looked over to where Zoey was along with some other girls.

"Zoey, your ride home is here" she said, and Zoey who was playing with the other girls; looked over to her with a nod and said bye to the girls before grabbing her school bag which was nearby her.

"Hi Ryder" she said, as she approached, and her class teacher along with he looked to her.

"Hi" he replied, giving her a small smile. "Your mom told you this morning that I would be picking you up?"

"She did, yeah" said Zoey, with a nod. "And that you're going to be staying for a few days, since your apartment has bugs"

"Hmm, it does" replied Ryder, with a small laugh. "Not that I have seen any" he continued as Zoey gave a small laugh also. "But to know that there could be creepy things lurking, no thanks"

"I like caterpillars, but that's only because they change into butterflies" said Zoey, and Ryder looked to her with a nod. "But anything else, no"

"Yeah" replied Ryder, with a smile to her. "So want to head home?" he asked, as Zoey gave a nod and he looked to her classroom teacher. "Do I need to sign Zoey out or anything like that?"

"No, it's all good" she replied, with a nod to him. "I'm sure Sarah wouldn't have told me that you were okay to pick up Zoey, if she wasn't sure of you"

"Of course" said Ryder, with a nod and looked to Chloe. "Ready?"

"Yep" replied the young girl, and she looked to her teacher. "See you tomorrow Aunt Taylor"

"See you tomorrow" she replied, with a laugh and Ryder looked to her and then Taylor; before Zoey started to head from the classroom and Ryder also following her.

"Umm, Aunt Taylor?" he asked, as they headed down the corridor and out to his truck.

"Yeah, she's married to mom's brother Cole" replied Zoey, looking to him. "But I don't call her that in class. I call her Mrs Scott, like everyone else"

"Okay, yeah" said Ryder, with a nod and small smile to her. "Your mom didn't fill me in on that part"

"She has a lot of brothers and sisters" said Zoey, with a laugh and Ryder looked to her with a small nod and laugh.

"Hmm, I know she does" he replied as the neared his truck; and then the two of them headed back to Sarah's house for that of a few days of living together.

That evening, after having a meal together that Sarah had cooked; the three of them were in the living area playing Monopoly, and Ryder landing on one of Sarah's owned property, sighed since he had just spent a lot of his money on buying houses to put on the ones that he owned.

"Pay up" said Sarah, with a laugh as Zoey also laughed; both of them looking to Ryder. "You owe me" she continued, picking up the deed card for the property that Ryder had landed on of hers, that she had also two houses on. "Three hundred and thirty dollars"

"Okay, I don't have that" replied Ryder, looking over the remaining money he had.

"Looks like you might have to sell some of your train stations" said Zoey, with a laugh and Ryder looked to her with a small nod.

"Yeah, all four of them back to the bank" he replied, with a sigh and handed them over to Sarah, who was acting as banker for the game and she handed him seventy dollars.

"I'll just keep the rest, shall I" she said, with a smile to him, and Ryder looked to her with a nod.

"Your turn Zoey" he said, as she picked up the dice and rolled, throwing a five, which got her to the "Free parking" spot on the board.

"Chance and Community Chest money" she said, with a smile and holding her hand out to her mother; and with a sigh Sarah handed over the money that had been collected via the cards for various things to her daughter.

"I really think you're beating the both of us here" said Sarah, with a small laugh as Zoey looked to her with a smile and nod also. "Have you been playing with your dad?"

"No, with Aunt Marah" she replied, with a smile and Sarah looked to her nodding.

"Well I think that explains everything" she said, as Zoey laughed. "Your aunt is a known shark, when it comes to this game"

"Yep, she is" replied Zoey, with a laugh and as Sarah picked up the dice and threw it and then landed on one of the now available train stations that was able to be purchased since Ryder had mortgaged all of them to pay his rent. "I think I might buy this"

"Hmm, only because you can now" said Ryder, with a small laugh and she looked to him with a nod and smile.

"Yes, thank you for building hotels and not having any money" she replied, with a laugh. "And I think too, we need to be finishing up this game soon" she continued looking to her daughter. "Because you have school tomorrow"

"But mom, come on" said Zoey, in an almost whine. "I want to see if I can win"

"Maybe we can play for like ten more minutes" said Ryder, looking to the time on his watch and seeing what time it was getting to. "And whoever has the most money then, are the winner" he continued, as Sarah looked to him with a nod. "That's what my brothers and sister and I would do if the game was getting too long"

"Okay, yeah I guess we can play like that" said Zoey, and the three of them continued to play the game for about ten more minutes; before Zoey was indeed declared the winner and then with Ryder packing the game up, Sarah got her daughter ready for bed for the evening and the two of them enjoyed some more adult activities before they then also headed to bed also.

#ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID#

Sunday afternoon, with being given the all clear to return to this apartment block after the fumigation; Ryder took his stuff that he had taken over to Sarah's for a few days, back to his own place, before heading over to the Puckerman residences, and entered the house through the kitchen door at the back of the house, after being told by Puck, that this was all he ever needed to do when coming around to see his older brother.

Opening the door, and walking inside; he saw Sam at the kitchen counter unloading items from the dishwasher and he looked to him with a small smile.

"Hey Sam" he said, as Sam looked up to him with a nod and smile also. "How's things?"

"Yeah, hey Ry" he replied. "Good" he continued, as he placed some glasses into one of the cupboards. "What about with you? How was the living together experiment?"

"Umm, yeah it was interesting" said Ryder, with a small nod as he went and sat on one of the stools at the kitchen bench near where his brother was. "Zoey obviously wasn't there Friday night or all day Saturday; but Sarah's ex did bring her back just before I left" he continued, as Sam gave a nod. "But when she was there, it didn't feel as weird as I thought maybe it would be being around a kid majority of the time"

"Hmmm" said Sam, looking to his younger brother. "Sounds like your views on possibly having children, might have changed then?"

"I don't know" replied Ryder, with a small shrug of his shoulders. "But it's certainly not as scary or anything like that, as I once thought it to be"

"Does it make you regret now things ending with Marley?" asked Sam, as he closed up the dishwasher, having finished unloading it; and then leaning against the kitchen counter.

"No, not really" replied Ryder, shaking his head. "Because honestly, I think there was always going to be this huge part of Marley, wanting to be close by her family" he continued, as Sam gave a nod. "And if we were to move there; then I would not be close by my family, and that would just put me in exactly the same position she had been in whilst she lived here"

"Yeah, I get what you mean" said Sam, with a nod. "Even with Mads and Mas living a little further away from here" he continued, as Ryder nodded also. "It's not like they are that far away that we don't get to see them often"

"Hmm, and if I were to have stayed with Marley" said Ryder, as Sam looked to him. "And we made the move to South Carolina" he continued. "Then that would be an expensive trip all the time for us to see one another"

"So, things with Sarah then?" asked Sam, who had now met the new girl that his younger brother had been seeing for a few months. "You think they might get serious then?"

"I don't know, maybe" replied Ryder, with a small nod as Sam looked to his brother with a smile. "I really do like her, and also like I said it's not weird with Zoey" he continued, as Sam gave a nod. "She's a pretty cool kid, and also as well Sarah and her ex they have a good relationship still with one another. So it's not at all weird or anything like that, with them both dating new people"

"So being a step father then?" asked Sam, with a smile to his younger brother. "That's something possibly you could see yourself being?"

"Yeah it is" replied Ryder, with a nod and small laugh. "And that's such a strange notion as well" he continued, as Sam gave a nod. "Because I honestly thought that was not something I actually wanted"

"Well, before you jump head first into this" said Sam, looking to him. "I'd be talking with Sarah, just to make sure that she is on board with that as well" he continued, as Ryder looked to him with a nod. "And also too, if she were to be. If she was also in the future possibly wanting to have another a child"

"Umm, yeah I guess we do have to have that talk" said Ryder, as Sam gave a nod. "So it's still okay if I stay for dinner?"

"Yeah, of course" replied Sam, with a laugh. "The girls have been pestering Puck and I, all week for fried chicken" he continued, as Ryder gave a laugh also. "But, we did put our foot down at the take out option; so it's going to be Puck's mom's recipe for it"

"No, I hear you" said Ryder, with a laugh. "After now eating what Sarah cooks and all that" he continued, as Sam looked to his younger brother. "Take out, just doesn't taste the same anymore"

"Hmm, you are definitely well and truly in love, little brother" said Sam, with a laugh and Ryder looked to him with a laugh also and small nod of the head. "Help me prepare the salad, and then that's done for later when Puck will fry up the chicken"

"Sure" replied Ryder, with a nod and the two brothers continued to talk with one another; all whilst Ryder wondered if maybe what Sam said was true and he was definitely falling for Sarah, and if by any chance possible he could maybe see a long future with her, and one that would involve marriage and possibly not only being a step father to Zoey; but also one that also may include that of his own biological children too.

#ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID#

Having the discussion with Sarah, about where they both saw their relationship heading into that of the future; when his lease on his apartment was due to come to an end at the end of August, Ryder made the move from having lived on his own since his divorce with Marley had been finalized and her making the move shortly afterwards back to South Carolina; to living full time at Sarah's house, after she had also spoken with Hunter, in regards to the situation since it would also mean that he would also be around the of the daughter the two of them shared, on a more permanent and also regular basis.

Taking close to a week, in the final one of the summer holidays to get all the stuff that he would be taking over to Sarah's place, and then selling off the items that he would not be needing; Sarah laughed as she sat on the sofa in the living room, as Ryder along with that of Zoey, played the Wii Sport game on the Wii console that he'd bought with him, and the included tennis one of it and using the controllers as that of the racquets; with Ryder clearly trying to be bad so that Zoey who had never played the video game before could at least maybe win.

"Are you sure you've never played this before?" asked Ryder, as he deliberately lost a point so that Zoey was able to win the game; and the young girl looked to him shaking her head.

"No, never" she said, as he Ryder quickly looked over to Sarah who also shook her head.

"Hunter had one of the other video game consoles" said Sarah, as Ryder looked to her with a nod. "And the games he has on it, I wouldn't let Zoey play because they involved things such as fighting and guns"

"Hmm, I have some of those games too" replied Ryder, with a small smile to the girl who he was now living with. "And I promise, they will not be played around Zoey"

"But why?" she asked, and Ryder looked to Zoey with a small smile.

"Because they're not for someone who is your age, that's why" he replied, as Zoey looked over to Sarah and she gave her daughter a nod.

"You know how we only let you watch movies that have a certain rating?" asked Sarah, as Zoey looked to her with a nod. "Well it's the same with video games, they too have ratings and certain ones are not meant to be played by someone who is of your age"

"But I can play this one, right" said Zoey, pointing back to the television; where the player she was playing as was now waiting to serve in the game.

"Definitely, yeah" replied Ryder, looking to her with a nod and Zoey looked to him with a smile. "And maybe also I might be able to next time I head near a Game Stop, look and see if I can get any games for this console that I might not have, that you might like"

"Like what games?" asked Zoey, with a smile to him; clearly thrilled about the news of getting something that would mostly be solely that of hers for Ryder's gaming console.

"Ummm, well I have the Mario ones for this console and also the Donkey Kong ones" he replied, with a nod to the young girl.

"And you're going to be letting me play the Mario one, because I loved that on the console my brothers had when we were younger" said Sarah, and Ryder looked over to with a nod and laugh.

"Yeah, of course" he replied, and looked back to Zoey. "And I think they also have quite a few dancing games for this, that work with the controller and all that" he continued, as Zoey looked to him with a nod. "So if I see them, I'll buy them"

"Cool, thanks Ryder" said Zoey, with a smile and looked back to the television screen. "So who's winning?"

"That would be you" replied Ryder, with a small laugh. "You've won three games compared to that of my one, and this is the last game"

"So even if Ryder wins this one, Zo" said Sarah, with a laugh also. "I think we can say at least for now, you're the reigning champ of this game"

"We can" said Ryder, with a small nod and smile to the young girl. "And next time, since you will know then how to play it" he continued, as Zoey looked to him. "I won't be so easy on you" and with Zoey, laughing; the two of them continued to play to the game was over, Zoey winning, and then the three of them had dinner together; and slowly got use to being that of a family, even though not a truly biological one; together.

#ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID#

With things going well, in regards to him being that of a somewhat step father to Zoey and enjoying being part of the young girls life, and Sarah making sure to now include him, with the blessing of Hunter, who also was in another relationship now of his own; on decisions in regards to Zoey, he found himself faced question, as he had been now for quite a while; why he had thought that he didn't want to be a father.

Saturday morning, with Zoey over at Hunter's house; he and Sarah woke up and after eating breakfast together, they were quickly doing the dishes in the sink instead of putting them into the dishwasher; when Sarah placed down the dish cloth she had to wash the dishes and shaking her hands to rid the water that was also on them, quickly walked out of the kitchen.

"Sare?" asked Ryder, as he placed down the tea towel that he had to the bench and walked out with a quick pace behind his girlfriend, and saw her running up the stairs. "Hey, you okay?" he asked, as he quickly took the steps and saw Sarah heading into the bathroom that wasn't attached to that of their bedroom. "Sare?"

Walking into the bathroom he arrived just in time to see her kneeling and leaning over the toilet bowl, throwing up; and he kneeled behind her, pulling her long light brunette blonde hair out of the way.

"Oh, I don't know why I had to do that" said Sarah, as she wiped at her mouth and moved to a sitting position near the toilet bowl. "It was just like all of a sudden, I got nausea"

"Maybe something you've eaten" said Ryder, and Sarah looked to him.

"Are you feeling sick also?" she asked, and Ryder looked to her shaking his head. "Well it's probably not that and what we may have eaten"

"Might be a stomach bug" said Ryder, and Sarah looked to him with a nod before then turning once more and retching again into the toilet and throwing up a little more; and he rubbed her to the back as she did so.

"I never get sick" said Sarah, when she finished a second lot of throwing up and reached to flush the toilet. "The only time, I have ever thrown up was when I was pregnant with Zoey"

"Pregnant" said Ryder, as he looked to Sarah; his eyes widening as she stood from the floor and moved over to the sink and turned the faucet on and cupped some water into her hands which she proceeded to rinse her mouth out with. "You don't think, it's that do you?" he asked, as he also stood from the floor and looking to his girlfriend, as she spat out the water from her mouth. "We've been safe"

"There were a few times this past month, when we've gone without protection" she replied, turning off the faucet and looking to her boyfriend. "And all it takes is that one time"

"Umm, yeah okay" replied Ryder, with a small nod. "Wow"

"Hmm, yeah" said Sarah, with a small nod also. "But, don't panic just yet" she continued, taking his hands and giving him a small smile. "I know having children of your own isn't something that you're wanting, and it could be just a stomach bug"

"Stomach bug, yeah" replied Ryder, with a small nod and smile to her. "But also as well, I've been thinking the past month or so that having children, might not be that bad" he continued as Sarah looked to him. "And I have been meaning to have that discussion with you, but I wasn't sure how to start the conversation"

"Really?" asked Sarah, looking to him as Ryder looked to her with another small nod.

"Yeah, I really like being a sort of dad to Zoey" he replied, as Sarah looked at him. "And kind of think maybe I would like to have a kid of my own"

"Wow, yeah okay" said Sarah, with a small laugh. "I wasn't at all expecting you to say that" she continued, as Ryder gave a nod. "Because I wasn't in this relationship, with you just to have children and I was okay with not having another baby"

"But, if I were to be open to the idea?" asked Ryder, as Sarah looked to him. "Then you would be willing?"

"Of course, yeah" replied Sarah, with a nod. "I always wanted to have another baby, but as I said I was also okay with if it meant being with you, then that wouldn't happen"

"Well I think I want this" said Ryder, with a smile to her. "I want to have a family with you"

"Me too, with you" replied Sarah, with a nod and smile also. "I want that, as long as you're completely sure of this" she continued. "And if it were to happen, not bailing if you then decided it wasn't for you"

"I wouldn't do that" replied Ryder, shaking his head. "I love you, and also Zoey"

"Same here, we love you also" she said, with a nod. "So I might head down to the drug store then and grab a test"

"Okay, yeah" replied Ryder, with a smile to her. "This is just so surreal"

"Hmm it is" said Sarah, with a nod. "But we both want this right" she continued, as Ryder also gave a nod. "And if that test happens to be a negative, then knowing we do both want a baby. We could possibly start actually, trying"

"Yeah, definitely" replied Ryder, with a nod and Sarah headed off to the drug store to grab a pregnancy test; and let him to ponder the maybe idea of possibly soon becoming a father.

#ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID##ID#

Returning a little later that day back home, with a two-pack early result pregnancy test; Sarah and Ryder were seated on the edge of the bathtub, after she had taken both tests awaiting the results.

"It could just be a false alarm" she said, with a small smile to him as Ryder looked to her with a nod. "I worked out my period is a few days late" she continued, as Ryder just looked to her. "But honestly, it's never been completely accurate with my cycle, because of all the sport and that I did growing up"

"How long were you pregnant, before you realized you were pregnant with Zoey?" asked Ryder, as Sarah gave a small sigh.

"I was about nine weeks" she replied, with a small nod. "And even though I had been sick and throwing up" she continued as Ryder looked to her. "Both my younger sisters had also had a bout of gastro, so at first that is what I thought it was"

"But then, you thought maybe it wasn't" said Ryder, as Sarah gave another nod.

"Yeah, my breasts were kind of more tender than normal and when I worked out that I'd not had a period in three months, I did the test" she replied, as the timer on her phone went off and she looked to Ryder with a small smile. "Looks like we're about to find out if I am now"

"Uh huh" said Ryder, with a small nod and taking a deep breath. "What do they say?" he asked, and Sarah took the two tests from the counter and they both saw on each test the two little pink lines; which indicated that Sarah was in fact pregnant. "They're both positive"

"They are" replied Sarah, with a nod also as she placed them back on to the bench and looked to Ryder taking one of his hands. "You're okay with this?" she asked. "Not freaking out, and thinking about running from here and I never seeing you again"

"I'm not sure how that would go down if your brothers and sister, and parents were to find out" he replied, with a small smile to her and Sarah gave a laugh. "I would probably have to leave the state and change my identity"

"Maybe America" replied Sarah, with a smile as Ryder gave a laugh. "So, what are you thinking for real right now?"

"I'm kind of freaking out a little" he replied, with a nod as Sarah also nodded. "But also as well, I am kind of excited about it"

"Even though you did think you weren't wanting children?" asked Sarah. "This is something you're sure you're okay with"

"I am, yeah" replied Ryder, with a nod as he looked to Sarah. "Like I said this morning, I have been thinking it may not be all that bad, being a dad" he continued, as Sarah gave a nod also. "And honestly, I can't think of anyone I'd rather do this with"

"Me either" said Sarah, with a smile to him. "It's almost like my relationship with Hunter was meant to not work, and yours with Marley" she continued. "So that you would then see that being a dad, wouldn't be that bad"

"Yeah, I think so too" replied Ryder, with a nod. "I cared for Marley, and I know you also cared for Hunter as well" he continued, as Sarah gave a nod. "But I don't think they were who we were meant to be with, and as such rather more meant for each other"

"Same" said Sarah, with a smile to him. "And I'll make an appointment with my doctor on Monday, and get them to double check to make sure I am pregnant"

"And would they be able to tell as well how far you are?" asked Ryder, as Sarah nodded.

"They would possibly be able to" she replied, as Ryder gave a nod. "But the best way to find that out is with an ultrasound"

"So we check first with your doctor and then do an ultrasound" said Ryder, as Sarah looked to him with a smile. "I honestly have no clue here"

"That's what we'll do" replied Sarah, with a nod. "And when and if all is okay, then we can tell people"

"Okay, yeah" replied Ryder, with a nod also; and the two of them then with the thought of them soon becoming parents together; didn't make plans for the future in that exact moment but knew that they were both on the journey to the future together, whatever that may hold for them.

End Note: Like I said in the Author Note, for Ryder and Marley to end because he was so adamant that he didn't want children; to be then okay with the idea of not only be a step father to Zoey, but also having children with Sarah. It is a little, bit of controversial.
However, I do think people have the right to change their minds; and Ryder did come to see also as well that even if he did have that with Marley, with her being from another state, that they would face dilemmas there because she would want to be definitely close to her family and have them in her children's life.

So for Ryder, to think the way he is that for reasons it didn't work with her; and also as to why Sarah and Hunter didn't work out. It was for them, that thing in life that you can't really explain and have just happen and be that of the right thing that did.

The next chapter, will involve a LOT of spoilers for a yet to be published chapter of a story that connects in the world of this series now; but there will be more in regards to that when it does happen. I have had, as said had this; plus all the other stories planned out now for quite a long time, and have a pretty insane timeline of events going on for it. But it's the only way I am really able to keep track of all that is happening.

Thanks as always for reading, and I will catch you all again soon.

Love, always
