Summary:
"I should have watched the news before I left."
"Maybe you should have."
Percy Jackson is not your average fifteen years old. He was small for his age and was a bit of a troublemaker. Not that it was his fault anyway. Trouble just seems to gravitate to him. Although his size was not up to par, his intelligence was impeccable. He was one of the smartest kids in his grade besides his best friend Annabeth Chase. Just because he is book smart didn't mean he was street smart.
Will he ever escape this sticky situation?
Masters' Kitten
A Demand for an Answer
|Third Person POV |
Annabeth sat on her bed with her knees pulled to her chest. It has been weeks since Percy has last been seen. She's cried herself to sleep for several days now.
"Annie?" The door is pushed open slightly
Piper pokes her head through the doorway. "Annabeth?" She opened the door wider. She walked over to the bed and sat next to her girlfriend.
"Pipes?" Annabeth pulled her into a hug and cried into her chest. "I miss him so much."
"I know. Me too." Piper's eyes watered as she held Annabeth close.
...
Jonathan looked down at his phone. He opened his messages and scrolled for a bit then closed the app. He let out a frustrated sigh and threw his phone onto his bed. Laying back on the bed, Jonathan closed his eyes and allowed himself to get lost in his own thoughts.
"Jay you in?"
He opened one eye and looked at his dorm door.
"Jonathan?"
"Yeah. I'm here. The door is unlocked."
The door opened and Christina enters the room.
"You still thinking about Percy?"
Jonathan sat up and leaned against the wall. "I was the last person to see him that day. Sure feels like it's my fault."
He sighed again, "It's stupid I know. I shouldn't blame myself for something I can't control. Sometimes I feel that maybe if I dropped him off in from of his friend's house instead of the store he would be here now."
"You make it sound like he's dead." Christina walked over to his bed and sat down next to her friend. "That kid is strong you know. I only met him once but even I could feel how strong his spirit is. He will survive this. The police will find him."
A few stray tears fell from Jonathan's eyes. He tried to wipe them away before Christina saw but she noticed it anyway.
"It's okay to cry you know. It doesn't make you weak."
"I feel stupid crying over this."
"You're human. Anyone would get choked up."
She passed him the water bottle she was holding. "Here. Drink this and take a nap. I know you haven't been sleeping properly."
"Can't exactly get a good night's sleep knowing Percy's out there somewhere. I can't even begin to wonder what he might be going through."
...
After a good night's rest, Annabeth woke up feeling more refreshed than she had in weeks. She untangled herself from Piper's grasp and went to the bathroom to shower.
She stood under the shower for a few minutes allowing the water to pound against her skull. 'Percy wouldn't want this. No, he'd want us to push through.' She ran her fingers through her hair. 'Don't worry Percy. We will find you no matter what.' She quickly washed up and shut off the water.
Piper slowly opened her eyes and heard the water running in the bathroom. She sat up and stretched her arms wide. Annabeth exited the bathroom using a towel to dry her hair. Piper turned and saw a determined look on her girlfriend's face. She smiled. 'That's my Annie.'
The day passes slowly for the girls. Annabeth spent her time scouring the internet hoping to find anything. No detail was too small. She reread the news articles and rewatched the news footage.
"I need the surveillance tapes somehow. I need to see how this happened." Annabeth bit her lower lip. There are papers scattered on her desk and on the floor.
"Annie I brought more papers like you asked." Piper placed the stack on the corner of the desk. "What exactly are you searching for?"
"Anything to be honest. I can't help but feel like we are missing something."
"Do you want to head back over to the alley? Maybe you'll spot something there."
Annabeth stopped typing and look at her girlfriend. "Pipes you're a genius." She kissed her on the cheek. "Let me get changed."
She opened her dresser and pulled out a pair of jogging pants, a t-shirt and Percy's old hoodie. The girls grabbed their keys and left the house. The alley wasn't too far from the house so they were there in about ten minutes. Annabeth began searching around the dumpster. She bent down and looked underneath the dumpster.
"Hm. His phone was on the ground around here. What else did he have with him?" She gasped. "His bookbag! Where is it? Piper!"
Piper looked up, "Did you find something?"
"Did the police say they found Percy's bookbag?"
"Now that you mention it I don't think they mention his bag. Do you think whoever took him has the bag?"
Annabeth shook her head, "No I think they would have thrown it away. Like they did to his phone."
Piper walks over, "Well if they threw it in the dumpster, then it's gone because this gets emptied every week."
The blonde bit her lip. She hoped that wasn't the case. "Oh, I have an idea." She pulls out her phone and calls Sally. When she didn't pick up, Annabeth sent a text instead.

Hey Sally. I was wondering if you had that college student's phone number. The one that was with Percy before he disappeared. I wanted to ask him something.

Hello. Is this Jonathan. My name is Annabeth. I am Percy's best friend. I asked his mother for your number. I was wondering if you were willing to meet. I have some questions I'd like to ask you.
