"Alec, you're a man of honor, and the only person in this world I would trust with something like this. I'm counting on you to do the right thing." Jace says trying again to get his support. I want to face palm. This will eventually backfire.
Alec sighs and agrees.
We kept walking in the street. Simon kept falling behind. "Keep up, mundane." Jace tells him.
"Would you stop calling me that? I have a name." Simon says.
"Well, learning it would mean I care, so, no." Jace replies.
"Yeah, and God forbid you care about anyone but yourself." Simon says,
"I care about a bunch of people." Jace says glancing at me. "I just don't care about you."
"Me, or what… what's it called, your…. Your parabatai's?" Simon said trying to insult him.
"Be careful what you say. Parabatai's are secret." I tell him.
"Whoa, watch your mouth. You don't know a thing about me and Alec. We clear?" Jace says threatening him.
"Twenty bucks says he'll leave you hanging tonight." Simon says trying to get a rise.
"I will take that bet." I say. "Alec would never."
"You don't know Alec." Simone says.
"Ahh, but neither do you." I tell him.
"Not a chance he would leave me hanging." Jace adds in.
"Really? 'Come, fetch, roll over.' You know, 'lie down.' You treat him like a lap dog." Simone says,
"Guess it takes one to know one." Jace says back
"What's that supposed to mean?" He asks
"It means, you're like a yippy dog nipping at Clary's heels. Right?" I say asking Jace if I am correct.
"Yes" Jace replies.
"I don't nip and she's my best friend," Simone says trying to defend himself.
"That's all she's ever gonna be. Have you seriously not figured that out yet?" Jace says.
"Look, I don't want Clary as anything more than a best friend." Simon says.
"Right." I tell them.
"And I'll have you know that there are tons of women who have more than friend feelings for me." Simon says trying to defend himself again.
"Where are they?" Jace says looking around. I giggle in my hand.
"I don't have to introduce you to them. And my point is, Clary and I have always had each other's backs. We had our entire lives. That's more than I can say for you or Alec." Simon says getting more upset.
"Excuse me." I say
Jace pushes Simon "You do not get to talk about Alec, mundane!" Jace yells at him.
"I told you, don't call me mundane! Are we clear?" Simon says, pushing Jace up against the wall holding a knife to his throat.
"Boys!" I yell. Trying to get their attention. They ignore me.
"What are you gonna do now? You gonna cut me?" Jace says. He pushes Simon to the ground. "Do that again, and I'll kick your ass."
"I'm sorry dude, I'm sorry. I don't know why I did that. I'm sorry." Simon says suddenly different. Jace pulls Simon up.
"What happened to you at the vampire hotel?" I ask him.
"Nothing. I told you guys; I was a hostage." Simon says defensively.
"You sure?" Jace asks, as he grabs Simon's face.
"Leave me alone! I told you, it's nothing, it's …. You just piss me off." Simone told us. Pushing Jace off of him.
We keep walking. Jace tells Simon to stay where he is for a second. He pulls me into the ally. He puts his hands on both sides of the wall boxing me in.
"Do you believe him?" Jace asks me.
"No, I don't believe him in the slightest. I think he had vampire blood. He is acting aggressive at sometimes." I tell him. "Vampire blood withdrawal can sometimes do that."
"You are right about that. If only we could prove it." He says
"Well, relax Jace. We will prove it at some point. But now is not the time. Now is the time to get the ingredients for my father to heal my uncle." I tell him taking his face in between my hands.
"Your right." He tells me. Leaning down and kissing me. I feel like fireworks go off. It ends all to quickly. He takes my hand and leads me out of the ally.
We go back to Simon and keep walking.
"So, is this where you kill me and dispose of the body in some ditch where no one will find me?" Simon says,
"Tell me again. What does Clary see in you?" Jace says.
"My inner compassion. Something you're sorely lacking." Simon says,
"You don't really need compassion when you can get by on charm and good looks." Jace says.
"Jace does have some compassion where it counts." I tell Simon.
"And you wonder what she sees in me." Simon says. He then looks at the building we walked up to. "What are we doing here?"
"My black-market dealer operates out of this building." Jace says.
"Cozy. Downworlder, I'm assuming." Simon says,
"Hates mundanes." Jace says to him.
"So, you guys have something in common." Simon says.
"Just, uh…. Hang back." Jace tells him taking my hand.
"I told Clary I'd get het what she needs to save Luke. I'm not hanging back like some third wheel." Simon says.
"That is my uncle you are talking about." I tell him.
Jace puts his blade against Simon. "You are a third wheel. And I wasn't asking." He says.
Jace takes my hand going into the building. We get the ingredients from his contact then make our way outside. We both see a big scorpion demon.
"Run!" Jace yells out to Simon and I. "Come on, mundane. Clary will not be happy if I let you die."
The scorpion comes out of the building. Jace pulls out his seraph blade I pull mine out as well just in case, but he manages to kill it. Simon is still on the ground panting like he just ran a marathon. I help him up so we can get back to my lair and give my dad the ingredients.
