We walk back to my liar.
"You are close with your uncle?" Jace asks
"Yeah, he would come to visit at least once a week. My mother is long gone from what I understand she is in Idris. He tries to make sure I know all about her." I tell him.
"That's nice of him." He tells me.
"Will you two hurry up." Simon says ahead of us. We start to run back.
"Clary!" Simon yells running into the room.
"Dad!" I yell running over to him. He is holding Alec's hand. I kneel by there side.
"Do you have it?" Clary asks
"Yeah." I say standing up and heading to finish the potion. I give it to Luke, and he wakes up. My dad falls into Alec exhausted.
"Hey… Daniella" Luke says looking at me.
"You okay?" Alec asks my dad.
"Yeah." My dad tells him. Just enjoying being in his arms.
"Thank you, Alec." I tell him. "I'm sorry for the way Jace treated you. You didn't deserve that. If you need anything don't hesitate to ask. I will try to make it happen."
"Thank you…."
"Daniella." I tell him. Alec gets up to leave.
"Alec, Wait." Clary says. "If you hadn't gotten here in time, I…. I'm just…. I'm glad you and Jace are okay now."
"I didn't do this for Jace." He says.
"Then I'm glad you did it for you." She tells him.
Jace comes into the room shaking hands with Alec and giving him a hug.
"Thank you." Jace says to him. Alec leaves, probably to the institute.
"You owe him one." I tell him. He takes me into his arms.
"Well, you owe me one as well." Jace tells me. "I will take that in the form of a date."
"You seem confident that I would want to go on a date with you." I tell him.
"Well, do you?" He asks pulling away a little to look me in the eyes.
"I do but…"
"Then it's settled. We'll go on a date." He interrupts happily.
"Alright." I tell him.
Simon walks in. "Clary, Luke is asking for you."
"Yeah. Right. Thank you so much." Simon and Clary hug and Clary leaves to go talk to my uncle.
"You owe my twenty dollars." I tell Simon.
"Why would I owe you anything?" Simon says.
"Well, I took your bet. Did I not?" I ask.
"She did." Jace says.
"Of course, you would agree with her, you're sleeping with her." Simon says.
"Well, that's rude." I say.
"Didn't I help you get the potion for your uncle?" He asks me.
"No, you tagged along. You didn't actually do anything. Jace did everything," I say.
Simon finally hands me the twenty dollars. "Tell Clary, I've got something to do." He leaves.
"Do you need the money?" Jace asks.
"No, it was more the premise." I tell him. "I was also seeing his agitation. to see if he would lash out on my like he lashed out on you."
"Ah, that makes sense." Jace says. I walk into the room with Luke and Clary.
"Not in the way he was proposing. Ever since the Angel Raziel created the first Shadowhunters with the cup, it's been forbidden to use the Cup again to rebuild their forces. Jocelyn and I, we tried pulling him back. But he just misconstrued that as…" Luke explained.
"The affair. It's not your fault, Luke. There's no way you two could have pushed him over the edge. He did that to himself… with the blood injections." Clary says.
"And the more injections he took, the deeper it seemed he descended into madness." Luke continues.
I left the room knowing the rest of the story. I went to my room. Thinking about how Valentine and Luke were Parabatai. I know how he betrayed their Parabatai bond and everything else he believed in. Valentine got Luke turned into a werewolf. Turning him from his kind into a downworlder. It was heart breaking for him. But he did turn to my dad and I.
I go to walk into the living room where Luke and Clary left, to go to another room. I see Alec and Dad. I quietly stand in the door frame to listen in.
Alec is cleaning Luke's blood off the sofa. My dad is prepping them cocktails. My dad and cocktails.
"You know I have magic for that, right?" My dad says to him. At least he isn't making him clean.
"I think you have exerted yourself enough for one day." Alec says to him.
"My daughter can get it. Drink break?" My dad says. He hands Alec a cocktail and snaps his fingers. Sparking the drink up. It's his favorite. "To us." They click glasses and take a sip.
"Why did you ask for me… when Jace, Clary and Daniella were all here?" Alec asks.
"Hmm, Jace didn't tell you?" My dad says. "It doesn't matter it was a lie anyway." I giggle quietly in my hands.
"Are warlocks always this cryptic?" Alec asks him.
"I'm not being cryptic." My dad says chuckling. "I'm being coy. Let me spell it out for you. I wanted to see you again."
"Why?" Alec asks confused.
"Why'd you come?" My dad asks in return.
"I'm not sure." Alec says.
"For almost a century… I have closed myself off to feeling anything for anyone. Man or Woman. Besides my daughter. But you've unlocked something in me." My dad explains. I do know this is the truth. He slept with my mom, but they were never in love. They had a one-night stand.
Alec's phone rings and he answers it. "Hey. Hi, Mother. Of course." He hangs up the phone. "Well, duty calls."
He looks upset.
"Ah…. Oh, the furrowed brow. Maryse must be recruiting you for something…. Unseemly." My dad remarks. I know he is one to make jokes to help ease tension and make people feel better. My dad always does that when I'm upset. It can be annoying, but when you understand it, it can be sweet.
"Oh, listen, Magnus, I…. I wish I could…. I just…. I don't know what…." My dad holds up a finger to Alec's lips silencing him. Alec clearly still doesn't understand his feelings. I really hope he does figure it out. I don't want my dad to get hurt.
"I understand." My dad tells Alec and Alec smiles at him.
I know my dad is telling him that he understands because he really does understand. I heard that at one point my dad didn't understand his feelings towards men. It wasn't for years till he understood them. I do hope with my dad's help Alec will be able to understand his feelings faster. Especially if he is in love with his Parabatai. That is a tough pill to swallow. I know Jace is not gay. So that doesn't help. I just hope that Alec will approve of me, just as I approve of his relationship with my dad. I don't want to upset Jace's Parabatai.
"Stay for just one more drink? And then decide." My dad tells him. Pouring him another drink. They continue to talk. I leave to my room. It seems like no time passes before I hear a knock on the door. I go over and open it to Jace. "Come on in." I tell him.
He walks in. "I thought I saw you come in here." He says
"Do you know that your Parabatai is having drinks with my dad in our living room?" I ask him.
"No, I'm glad though. He deserves some fun." Jace says.
"Do you mind if my dad and Alec were to date?" I ask him.
"No. I think he needs someone he can love. Loving me while it does make me feel good. Will go no where. I don't like men." He tells me.
"I'm glad. I do hope they get to be together. I do know he was called back to the institute by his mom." I tell him. "I might have been listening in. I wanted to make sure he wouldn't hurt my dad."
"I can understand that, but I will be making sure that Magnus doesn't hurt Alec." Jace says sternly.
"I'm glad we agree then. We don't want either one of them hurt." I say as he pulls me into his arms.
"Well. Now that, that is behind us. Let's focus on us." He says, pulling me close and kissing me again. We both hear a loud knock on my door. We pull apart quickly and I step out of his arms in time for the door to open.
"Daniella," my dad says. "Clary says she might know where the Cup is."
"We better go speak to her then," I say. We both walk into the living room and see Clary waiting in there for us.
"Where were you two?" Clary asks upset.
"We were in my room talking. It was one of the only available rooms." I tell her.
"Oh," she says deflating. "Alright. I know where the cup is."
