Y'know, I realized that I said this chapter would only be about Ren
I then realized that the rest of the RWBY cast would be in Vale.
It would be a waste to not include parts featuring them.
So, things in this chapter will bring us to the fun part of this fanfiction
I'm so fucking happy I finally got to this point.
Also, I'd like to extend a huge thank you from everyone who's followed and favorited and reviewed this story
I'm not done yet and I probably won't be for a long time.
There's so much shit that's gonna go on in this story.
I can't wait to share the journey with y'all.
Also, someone asked if Jaune and Ren are going to face any opposition if they're literally gods
Like how the original gods were manipulated against one another (Quite easily if I say so myself)
it shows that they won't be and never will be, omniscient.
Things can and will get in their way.
Who knows?
Disclaimer: I don't own RWBY
Chapter 30: In Darkness No More
With a dejected tone, the King released a pained sigh.
"I…I understand…"
Ren could only watch. Thoughts swirled into all kinds of conclusions and assumptions. With each passing thought, the new theories went out the window. Every warping blast of golden energy almost reset his mind. When he wanted to say something, his mouth would almost disagree and stay shut. The words he wanted to be heard, stayed a mystery. Even as Jaune started to scream in agony as the God of Light supposedly began to merge with him, Ren was frozen in his steps. He couldn't move. Ren could only watch.
Even when the God of Darkness was beating Jaune into a bloody pulp, he stood, crippled by fear. He cursed himself, he tried to fight back against his own terror, but nothing worked. What am I doing?!
"Child." The God of Darkness began. "You try to maintain the façade of stoicism, but I can smell your fear from here. You're rank with it."
After a flash of light, Ren was left in the white dimension with no one but himself and the purple deity. "I guess we have to merge now."
Ren was surprised he even managed to speak. Of all the words, he found himself agreeing to the whole ordeal. It made no sense to him. None of this did. Gods, Evil Queens, armies, Grimm; for the first time since joining Jaune's army and even knowing the future-past, it struck him has nonsense.
The God of Darkness however, chuckled. "Eager. But not yet. Do you know why I was jealous of my brother?"
"I wasn't much of a believer." Ren answered. "Didn't have time to pick up a religion. You can thank your children for that."
"People came to my brother for anything. They showered him with gifts and praise and did all kinds of things for him." The God began. "They only came to me, asking to show mercy on those who perished. Little did they understand that the two of us handled death. The two of us controlled the cycle of life and death and the two of us can bring life as much as we can take it."
"Then why create Grimm?" Ren asked.
"My brother's creations aggravated me." The God simply answered. "We were to share this world, share in its creation and its growth. After all, what is life without its death. However, he only sought to create nothing more than paradise – paradise doesn't exist. What of the calf and the wolf? What of the gazelle and the cheetah? What of the winds and the trees weakly rooted? Death is inescapable and my brother tried to create a world without death – at least in the way one would think. So, I took it upon myself to expedite the process a bit."
"A bit?" Ren scoffed. "If you really think anything good came from creating the Grimm…"
"Good?" The god howled with laughter. "Nothing about what I do is good."
"When Salem went to you…that seemed to be from the goodness of your heart." Ren responded quickly. "I'm quiet; not dumb."
The God simply stared at him, the faceless features clearly creasing with disappointment. "If you have more to say, then say it, child. Don't hold back if we're to be one."
"No one is evil. Salem however, seems more selfish than evil."
"Some would say that is characteristic of evil."
"Then mankind is evil."
"Is it?"
Ren smirked. "You and your brother created us to have the choice to destroy and create…we've used that power to do both. Yes, we destroy one another and sure, we do plenty of horrible things to one another and Faunus…but look what Jaune has done, what the thousands who work for him do – we've destroyed our enemies and created something that will last. A united people, Faunus and Human. Are we evil…no. We aren't. But even you; you're welcome to change when given the recognition you crave."
"Don't think me some pup who cries for praise." The God of Darkness chided. "You were almost there, young Lie."
"Was I? You seem awful quiet for someone who's sole existence is darkness incarnate." Ren pressed his luck. "Salem…it looks like she claimed that title from you. Clearly, you're angry about that but what can you do when she surpasses you. When she stands above you in terms of longevity and creative mind. Look at the beasts she created – they were made from myths alone from a long time passed. What you made is miniscule, child's play compared."
"Hmm." The god wondered. "You know how to speak. Do you understand the point of all of this, Lie? Do you understand the duality in Light and Darkness, why we chose the two of you?"
"Almost." Ren said. "For every light, there is darkness, for every darkness, light comes to meet it. Like the changing of seasons, like the moon drifting with the sun on its tail. Every push for every pull. The equilibrium of life, of reality, must be maintained and Salem disrupts that. Even though experiments don't have to succeed, the fact that Humanity returned from your decimation…it shows that you didn't fail in creation, you failed in teaching."
"I hope my brother's choice isn't a pain. You understand well, Lie Ren." The god walked to him. "You understand your semblance. You understand what it can do? The light you present will be met with my darkness. Your friend, your king, his darkness is almost all encompassing. If I merged with him, you would have a being worse than Salem. His darkness and my own would encompass all in his reach. But with my brother's light to combat his dark, his thoughts, his rage and vengeance will be kept at bay."
"You expect the same result with me?"
"Precisely. Your semblance can stop my…her…children. While not killing them, you can halt their advance. While your aura is strong and enough to hide a small group, with my aura, as limitless as my brother's, you could hide a city, a Kingdom if you wanted to push yourself. But I doubt you'd waste your energies on something so trivial. You're creative and you have a single wish…vengeance yourself. I see it in your thoughts, Lie Ren."
The boy turned on his heels, his magenta eyes narrowing. "The Nuckelavee."
"One of my first creations." The god laughed. "Quite the ordeal if you ask me. It started as a prank to scare my brother but it gained…sentience, of some sort. Some say, without a soul, one can't feel pain. One can't feel fear. However, the Nuckelavee and all the Grimm you call Greater Grimm, are smarter than you think. The Goliath are my last creations…they are the smartest of my children. They watch, they wait and when they're given the chance, they strike. When they strike, they strike with a murderous fury. Oh? No comments?"
"My father died…fighting the Nuckelavee." Ren scowled. "He died and you're laughing. My mother was killed in front of me!"
Ren flipped around, aura building around him. Before he knew it, black lines began to bleed into his skin, melding into his face. The magenta irides were left in a sea of ink black sclera. "You think I'll sit here and let you mock my parent's death?!"
"Then you'll face the same fate as your king."
Cardin swung his mace, Dust burning as he did. The Beowolf tried to meet the head with its massive clawed paw, but the Winchester blasted the beast back. Twisting around, a Creep tried to get the jump on him, but using his size and strength to his advantage, with one hand and just enough aura, he grabbed the beast by its jaw. He roared against it, snapping its mandible off and shoved the boney structure into its open gullet, killing it immediately.
"Velvet?! Where are you?!"
Sirens blared across Vale's cityscape; Grimm threat level Nine. Seek shelter in a calm and orderly fashion. Something that Cardin never knew could happen, walls sprang up from the concrete jungles, separating entire sections of the city. Millions were cut off from the rest of Vale proper, leaving refugees in the millions to fend for themselves. Doing the best they can, they defended every street and avenue to with varying levels of success. Coordinating on the ground, LAHAT gunships were in the air dropping King's Fist soldiers across the affected zones, but the Grimm were just too numerous. On top of that, they came from nowhere. Swinging back, Hornets and other aircraft of Jaune's army battled with Gryphons and Nevermore, bullets and rockets and even blaster bolts screamed across the smoke covered sky.
Hordes of Grimm moved on the HQ in the center of Jaune's territory, trying their hardest to get to whatever was in there. The more he thought of it, ever since Ren went unconscious and the purple energy started flowing from within his infirmary room, the Grimm began to appear. There was no indication of Grimm Pools, nor spawning pits in the city. There was no sign, no warning.
"Cardin!" Yang's voice sounded in his headpiece. "We need Fireteams CRDL and CNDR to head to the Hospital District! SSSN and RWBY are trying to hold them off at the Industrial and Commerce. The rest of the Fireteams are trying to hold them off at the Redwood Bridge. Thanks to the traffic there, there's enough cover to hold off the infestation."
"Yang…" Cardin started. "Be safe alright?"
"Don't worry about us!" Yang began. "The rest of us are alright. Move to the Hospital district as quickly as you can, alright?! There are too many wounded and the refugees need protection!"
Nodding, he took a deep breath, feeling the effects of his temperature-controlled body glove do its magic. Picking up his mace and sheathing it on his back, he raised his shotgun, cocking it to make sure and took of down the street. Skyscrapers were on fire with Nevermore and other airborne creatures chewing and gnawing at the steel beams. There was nothing he could do for them. Hearing repulsor lift engines and roaring rotary barrels, bullets shredded across the burning cityscape, flaying the creatures where they perched.
Stopping where he can, he protected families and stray civilians hiding for their lives. It was chaos. Cardin dashed about, sliding between falling beams and concrete debris. Using his overshield and armor, he protected as many as he could, using his large muscled size to his advantage. Every impact lessened by the overshields. However, he knew it wouldn't last – he was going to feel every last bruise and broken bone for weeks to come.
Coming about, infantry of the King's Fist arrived in an LAV, the large forty-millimeter cannon blasting away at the Creep and Beowolf packs that flooded the streets. Even the Ursai that seemed more plated and armored, were no match for Dust enhanced forty-millimeter rounds. Their black, smoking bodies exploded with each round and impact, disintegrating before they even hit the ground.
"Lieutenant Winchester!" A sergeant called from within the LAV. "We'll bring the civilians to a safe zone farther into the King's district! Go! I have a few men to spare!"
"No." Cardin shook his head. "The safe zones will need all the men they can get. Send word to Beacon Academy if you can. With the walls that separate the districts from the rest of the city proper, it's going to be difficult to get reinforcements. Atlas isn't over Sanus yet and the Ankōshoku airships haven't arrived. The best thing we can do right now is prepare a line of defense with all the men we can. Spare ammo and minimize casualties. Keep the civvies safe, do you understand?!"
"Yes sir!" The LAV's bay doors hissed and opened, letting almost fifteen civilians file into the vehicle. After a nod and affirmation, the soldiers that deployed, quickly fell back into the vehicle, letting the door snap shut. With a rev of engines and black smoke roaring out it's exhaust, the vehicle zoomed down the street, giant tires crashing into Creeps and Beowolves as they did.
With nothing but time, Cardin tapped his helmet a few times, hoping the mechanisms still worked. As the HUD cleared and came back to life, he pulled up his contacts, speeding and calling his team.
"Dove! Russel! Sky! Where are you idiots?!" Cardin roared into his helmet.
"R-Right behind you boss!" Russel's voice quaked in the microphone. "T-There's a fucking Minotaur!"
Cardin snapped to attention, feeling the rumbles of concrete and steel bend with each rumble of boney hooves. Letting his visor focus from all the smoke and rubble, he saw his team jumping around Creeps and a mass of black, red and white bone plates. Charging behind them, towering at almost ten feet, a beast that was half man, half bull. Its head was adorned with a great face plate that had a pair of horns, tipped with red. It's eyes however, screamed with such a hatred, a violent rage, that Cardin couldn't move.
"M-Minotaur." Cardin whispered softly. "A…A f-fucking Minotaur."
"I can't kill you, but I'll make it hurt. For my mother. For my father. For myself."
The god looked around, smirking for sure if he had a mouth. "Killing me won't bring you the peace you think it will, child."
Ren roared out, pulling out Stormflower from their sheaths. Deactivating his semblance, he appeared only a few feet from behind the god. Rushing forward, he activated his semblance once more, flipping over the god's extended arm, surprising the beast. Using his blades, he jammed the edge into the god's arm, not even eliciting the slightest of pains. Ren spun about his arm, using his momentum to move forward until he was at the god's shoulder. Deactivating his semblance once again, he tore the blades from the deity, bringing them to its throat.
"Then what will?! You created them!"
"And you can destroy them." The god simply said. "You're emotional, as by design. The world you created is a world catered to your wellbeing. Even the Faunus your kind hates and demeans so regularly. The world was yours for the taking, yours to prosper and yours to ruin. A godless world. There is no system to follow, no life and death to respect; your medicine saw to prolong life; your wars sought to end it. Your weapons, your politics, it's all the same, just different lenses. Your medicines, your healing techniques, your aura itself; it's all the same. Your kind wishes for life, but you destroy it. Your kind fears death, so you wish to delay it."
"You seek to bring all to ruin and destruction, not us!" Ren hissed. "We try to save life!"
"I was simply part of the plan." The god smiled. "Life is a cycle, Lie. You live, you grow, you die. Without my Grimm, without my involvement, there would be no growing, there would only be existing. And existing is not living."
"What would you know of living."
"I'm here am I not? I came to you because you are on your last leg. You're afraid and you know there are few in this world who understand you. Even the Valkyrie. She tries her best to be by your side and understand you to best of her abilities, but there is little that she can do to truly know what it feels like to be in your shoes. To everyone involved, it's a war; simple as that, but you see the intricacies, between the lines. You know and understand that it's more than that. It's more than petty banners and pettier borders."
"That is something I never did quite understand about you humans." The god chuckled. "The need to separate yourselves. The need to feel special with your different cultures and kingdoms. Either way, you're afraid, Lie. You don't know if you're up to the task. An orphan; tortured and traumatized. You're just a nobody from a forgotten village. You're not worth being a King's advisor. What do you know of command? What do you know of leading? What do you know about anything, child?!"
Ren relented. Sliding down the deity's purple back, he landed on his feet, dropping his weapons. "What do I do then?"
"You shut up and listen." The god's tone changed. "I'm not my brother who might tolerate this insolence. He might even apologize for his actions, but you will receive no such notions from me. We came back to give you and your King much needed guidance. From the cosmos beyond, we found that everything fell apart. I learned from my brother, his treachery to create Ozma in some stale twist to curb fate. You cannot escape fate. My brother already twisted fate in his favor by creating Ozma; he created the beast Salem that we have now. We should have let the miserable sow die, but we let our own hubris get the better of us."
Ren hissed softly, feeling the black markings burn across his skin. "That sounded like an apology."
"Don't patronize me, child. I was simply giving reason to our actions. Salem was our creation. We couldn't stop her."
"And you think we can?"
"If you didn't think you could, then what's the point of trying so hard for something so futile. She can't be killed, she can't be stopped and if she must, she will manipulate you against one another if she pleases." The god said. Almost looking as if he wanted to slap Ren, he relented quickly, reverting to stand over him like a stern parent. "She turned me against my brother. Surely, she'll do the same to you and the Arc. You think your brotherhood is strong, you haven't been tested yet. Truly tested. When we merge, my hatred will combat your stoicism. My envy will rival your peace. In the end, if you let it, you will become me. You will be a destroyer of worlds."
"Or…"
"Or."
"I save it."
"My power will be at your disposal, Ren. As shown by what my brother did to Ozma…he can do what I do. You have the power to take and the power to give. But it comes with a price as all things do. What are you willing to sacrifice, what are you willing to let go of?" The god asked. For once, he seemed genuinely curious. "Power such as this…you can't do everything, risk making the people dependent on you. When something doesn't go their way…they will turn on you the way they turned on us. You cannot be the kind of gods we once were."
"I…" Ren looked to him. "W-Why? Why can't we be you but better?! Why can't we end the suffering?!"
"Because you can't. There will always be suffering. You can't just wish it away. Pain will always be."
"Then…" Ren looked up to him. "Fine. Fine! Can you promise me one thing?"
"What would that be?"
"Where can I find the Nuckelavee?"
Fire roared from its mouth, searing into cars and concrete, melting the metal bodies in its rage. The Minotaur swung its great fist, smashing through Russel's overshield, sending him sparking and through the windows of the second story of a skyscraper nearby. Sky tried to meet its strength with his halberd, but much like their bout with the Deathstalker in the Forever Fall Forest, it did little more than aggravate the Grimm beast. Using its horns and superior size, it weaved between the shaft and blade, shoving its horn through his shoulder, puncturing the overshield.
Shoving him away, Sky bounced and rolled about the street before crashing into a half-melted car. His helmet flew off his head, the visor cracking as it did. His head tilted slowly as his eyes began to shut. Cardin could only watch, frozen with terror. Memories he thought he'd forgotten resurfaced, remembering what Jaune showed him after the battle of the docks. Everything he was led to believe could be avoided was happening before his eyes. His friends were picked off one by one and here he stood, stuck and afraid.
As Dove tried his best to pierce the Minotaur's bone plate, something spectacular happened. From the rubble and the debris, a woman rushed into action, covered in light, chocolate brown armor. On her back, a backpack seemingly made of holograms appeared. From it, blades of the same hologram type swung about with master skill. She was almost dancing between each swipe and jab from the horned creature. She was untouchable, even the large bunny ears that poked from the helmet couldn't be harmed. She weaved between each strike, activating a new hologram weapon with each dodge and duck. From the floating blades, a scythe similar to Crescent Rose spun between her hands, sparking and slicing into the creature's unprotected areas.
Flipping with her wrist, the curved blade shot over, lodging into the Minotaur's shoulder. With a strength Cardin didn't know she had, she yanked the beast to heel, forcing it to its knees. Once more, the hologram changed, the scythe disappearing. In its place, gauntlets like Ember Celica took form, cocked and ready. She shot her fist forward, bashing into the Minotaur's bone plate, cracking it at first, but quickly followed it up with more jabs, until the plate shattered like glass, leaving the dark, murky flesh underneath. With another punch, a holographic explosion rocked the field, sending it rolling in the dirt.
It came to a stop, using its large hands to break its momentum, she appeared over it once again, this time a holographic mace in hand. With a powerful roar from the bunny, she landed, swinging the mace with all her might. The explosion ripped the creature's head apart, killing it almost immediately. There was a hiss, a screech and then, there was nothing but the explosion and the gunfire of the city-wide fight. Dropping the hologram, it fizzed and disappeared into nothing once again. Turning on her heels, the woman removed her helmet, letting it bounce on the concrete.
"C-Cardin?"
The boy snapped from his fear. Rushing forward, he trampled over concrete and stray beams. Rolling over the dirt and debris, he stopped, putting his hands on his friend. Sky was unconscious and wasn't breathing. Blood poured down his temples and from his mouth. The wound itself crusted against his armor. Putting his fingers against his neck, he couldn't feel a pulse.
"S-Sky?" Cardin whispered. "Sky?! No! Sky!"
"Cardin…" Dove winced. Holding his side, blood had already stained his bronze colored armor. "He…"
"Don't fucking say it, Dove." Cardin hissed. "Don't you say it!"
"We need to find Russel." Velvet tried to pull the Winchester away. "I saw where he was thrown to. If…if we leave now, we can find him and hopefully resuscitate him…please. There's nothing we can do."
Cardin trembled. "If I wasn't so scared…if I wasn't so…what would Jaune do? What would Jaune do?!"
"Jaune would move on and find those who are still fighting. Russel is in there…" Velvet looked to the building. Windows shattered and there were screams still coming from it. "Who knows who else is in there; regardless of that, we need to find him and help whoever else is still with us. Please, my love, we have to go."
"C'mon boss…I'm not out of the fight yet." Dove winced once more. His aura shimmered softly, trying it's best to fix what was done. "The Minotaur got me but Velvet really covered my ass. I'm not losing another brother today. Let's go."
He watched his squint-eyed teammate and the bunny who held his heart. Rising from the concrete, he pressed a hand on Sky's shoulder one last time. Picking up his shotgun and facing those who remained, he turned to face the building, the looming darkness within and the angry sparks birthed from naked wires, he knew what he had to do.
Ren sat before the cross-legged God of Darkness sitting in silence, one last time, examining the being before him. Falling to follow the deity, he did the only thing that made sense to him. He meditated, open eyed, however, looking for any fault, any deceptive acts within the faceless god. It was hard to read someone without seeing their emotions. He was stumped. Everything the god said was too good to be true. The power to control life and death, reality itself – it felt odd. It felt undeserved, in a way. He was, after all, a nobody. He came from no one and had nothing.
Feeling the words of the God of Darkness fester within him, Ren hissed, winced even, at the severity of it all. Was the god wrong? Was the god right? There were too many questions, so many left unanswered and there was something about it all, the entire interaction that left him wanting. He desired more, he wanted more, but for some reason, he felt he was his own barrier. That he was his own contributor to his stagnation. His aura was not like Jaune's, nor like Cardin's. It wasn't like Nora's and it wasn't like Pyrrha's. He supposed that was the specialty of the Human soul, how each, while simple and kind, was different and unique in of itself.
The soul was the light in the darkness, the beacon in the night. It was the flame that remained unending and it was the sea that never shallowed. Ren closed his burning eyes, feeling the effects of the God of Darkness beginning to seep into his flesh, like a disease rampaging his blood vessels and latching onto his aura. Of all the people, Ren wondered, feeling his words once more. He really was no one. He really was from nothing. Jaune had the pedigree, the history, the semblance and the aura to match what he claimed to do. What did he have? Enough aura to hide a few people, the semblance of a coward? He hid from the fights against the beasts that wanted them gone.
Ren cursed once more, feeling the black markings crawl against his flesh. There was something about it all, the gravity of the situation. TO give himself up to the God of Darkness, to give his very existence away, was something he never sought or even imagined. Having heard of the deities from Jaune's explanations of the future-past, he didn't think much of the pair. Now…there was one, the evil one of course, willing to merge bodies, aura and soul and become one being. Was the tradeoff worth it? Was the sacrifice truly what he wanted? What would he lose? What would he gain?
He felt his words. Nothing. Nobody.
I have Nora. Ren thought subconsciously. I have Nora. I have Jaune. I have Pyrrha. I have all of RWBY and NDGO. I have a new life, new friends and a new family.
Opening his eyes to the God of Darkness, the horned deity simply tilted his head in curiosity. "What is it now, Lie?"
"While you were right for a while, you weren't completely right." Ren smirked confidently. The black markings slowly began to recede, the black sclera paled white. "While I come from nothing and while what happened, for a lack of better terms, haunts me, I am not alone. I am no longer a nobody. I am a trusted advisor of my best friend and brother, Jaune Arc of the House of Arc. My mother died well before she could see what I'd grow to become and my father, died knowing that I'd become a man worth my salt one day. So, you tell me, God of Darkness, where is the fault in that?"
"It's not fault I seek to place upon you, Lie. You are still missing the point, Lie. You need to understand that I don't wish to destroy Remnant, as much as my brother wishes for it to survive into infinitum. You misunderstand my point to everything. I want to destroy, because it is my calling to do so. You wish to hide, protect and survive, because that is what your spirit, your soul calls you to do. We each have a destiny to fulfill and yours was to be the night to the morning, the shadow to the light. One would say that cat is the King's shadow, but you, Lie Ren, truly are."
"You stood by him, no matter the opposition, you stand by him even now, with everything you've been told. From what I've noticed, men are quick to run when given such a plea. You stood without fail. You respect him and he respects you. Daresay, loves you. He never had the luxury of a brother and you gave him that. What you sacrifice when merging with me, goes beyond physical and emotional, the thing we could become is your discretion. If you wish to be beside him, a pair of deities fighting for the same cause, then so be it. You wish to be his secret enforcer, the one who fights from the shadows, so be it. If you wish to oppose him…stand in his way…then who am I to stop you? I will cease to exist when we merge."
"My darkness, my envy, my hatred and my rage, it will all coalesce inside of you, empowering your aura, strengthening your semblance, which of course, is the only thing that could hold my malevolence at bay. So, you've heard countless times by now." The God smiled. "I can give you more than the Nuckelavee. You can give me what I've wanted for so long."
"And what's that?" Ren asked. "What could you possibly want from me?"
"You and that Arc, are the perfect vessels. You two can stand to Salem, especially with those teams you've found yourself with? The silver eyed warrior and the women among you – their destinies have not been realized. Right now, they are learning more about themselves as we speak. The battle rages on around you and you don't even know it."
Ren paused. "Battle?!"
"Yes." The God's response was curt. "When my brother merged with the Arc, their power most likely tore through Menagerie and that city, Kuo Kuana, was it? Knowing them, they fixed all the damaged they caused, but I wonder how he'll handle his new powers. Wherever my power exists in great concentration, spawning pits or not, the Grimm will appear. With what we intend to do, the infestation must be tremendous. What will you do?"
"Why does it matter if you're nonexistent."
"Coy one, aren't you?" The God rose from his cross-legged stance. "Come to me then. Let the merging begin."
Putting his arm forward, his hands miniscule compared to the purple being standing before him. As their energies spiked, Ren's semblance activated against his knowledge. Aura from the deity rushed into him, seeping into his pores, bleeding into his veins. It was excruciating, a nightmare worse than anything he had ever felt before. Nothing he faced, no Grimm, no violent extremist, no bullet, no anything, could meet this pain. He was losing himself. But an inner voice, the voice he always listened to, told him to snap out of it.
Focusing his thoughts on one, he could see it. Her turquoise eyes, always glimmering as if painted in midday sun. He could see her short orange hair, always swept and out of her face. It was followed by the scent of pancakes and maple syrup and…gunpowder. Her footsteps, while heavy in combat, were light when in peace. As if she knew what peace was, she was totally hyperactive and that was without coffee. Ren could hear her laugh, her giggle and snorts. He could her shout, her praise, her snores. He could hear her calling his name. She…was Nora.
Trying to find his center, he could hear the cranking of gears, the chaffing of string. There was a woman with stylized hair, as purple as violets, with a look as determined as steel. The shuffling of her overcoat followed and the thud of her boots came with it. He could see it, her smirk and her soft smile. He could feel her emotions pour forth, unabated and genuine. She was far from a saint; she was far from perfect. She was finicky, OCD and quite easily bothered by the slightest miscount when she stacked her bolts. Flashing a small, clumsy smirk, he knew who it was. She was Nebula.
Arguing with the tug of war within him, Ren shouted finally losing control. There was another, a blonde. She was confident, but not boisterous. She was kind, but she was tough. When she wasn't twirling her spear, she was twirling pencils between her fingers deep in calculated thought. But there was something similar in those sapphire eyes of hers. It was welcoming, like a long-separated friend. Like the desert sun, the sands on which it reflects, her armor displayed that. Her attitude matched the land where she came. Not heartless, not cold. Unlike the one before, her smirk brimmed with wit he characterized with her. She called to him.
Dew?
"Ren?! What the fuck – stay back you Grimm bastard!"
Forcing his eyes open, Ren saw with vivid clarity for the first time in a long time. It almost felt as if he were rejuvenated. Staring out into the shattered room and missing wall, the pillars of smoke rose to hold the heavens above. The setting sun drifted in the distance; its majesty hidden by the new walls that rose to separate the city. Seeing it made his blood boil for a moment. But he knew if he were sitting outside the walls, he'd want the same.
LAHAT and several wings of Hornets zoomed across the sky, battling with Nevermore and Gryphons. Their engines roaring and their weapons screaming. Gunfire, blasters and all other weaponry echoed into his ears at once. At the doorway, exposed and barely holding on, Nora, Nebula and Dew stood, their weapons trying to hold back an Alpha Beowolf. Its massive claws scraping and scratching against their polearms and sword. The three women, as powerful as they were, looked to be on their last leg.
Nora's forehead was bleeding, a gash against her hairline had formed. Nebula's armor was pierced in her abdomen painting the stacked plates of armor crimson. Dew, however, her right leg had a Beowolf spine stuck through the thigh, somehow puncturing her GEN2 Power Armor and energy shield. They shouted, growled and used all the strength they still could muster. The beast they faced knew this too, saliva almost dripping from its open maw with anticipation.
Without thinking, his semblance roared into existence, latching onto the three women. One by one, their bodies turned grey and pink, hidden and released from the Grimm attacking. Nora snapped forward, her hammer blasting into the Beowolf's boney chest, shattering the bone in the first strike. Dew followed quick, shoving her spear into the beast's now, unprotected gullet, pulling it toward Nebula who dealt the final blow, beheading the Alpha without much struggle. Still invisible to the Grimm, the creatures waiting down the hall stopped and crawled away, climbing the walls and shattering the glass windows of every floor above and below them.
"Nora…Nebula…Dew…"
Suddenly, Nora appeared, her arms wrapping tightly around Ren. She trembled, shuddering into his hold. She babbled through tears and snot but somehow the boy got the message. Midsentence however, she paused, the turquoise eyes he found himself adoring were confused, almost terrified now. Releasing him and backing away, she fell to the dirty, debris covered, tile floor. "R-Ren…you have ram horns!"
Nebula turned, helping Dew to her feet, but Ren quickly moved along, kneeling beside the huntress-in-training. Ignoring the protests from the other two present, he put his open hands on the Grimm spike protruding from the wound. The woman hissed at the touch, the white bone already painted a bloody, sickly, maroon. Nora fidgeted slightly, reminded of the Forever Fall forest and what happened to Cardin. She wanted to do something, but given the battle, the chaos around them, what could she do?
"Dew…this is going to hurt slightly." Ren said. "Stay calm. I will fix everything. When Jaune gets back…we will fix everything."
Gripping the flat base of the Grimm spike, it slowly started to disintegrate. Piece by piece, almost disappearing like dust in the winds. Dew scowled, her face scrunching in discomfort. She tried to run from the pain, but she knew she couldn't even get up. Ignoring the gunfire, ignoring the explosions, she let the spike disappear, revealing the gaping hole left in her thigh. Blood spurted, slowly dripping to the floor below.
Dew clenched her fists, gritting her teeth, but she shot back, her head banging against the metal walls of the infirmary room. Ren took this as a sign, opening his palm, the hole quickly merged, flesh, muscle, bone and everything between and above, reformed. Her aura moved at lightning speeds, killing the pain where it was, filling the damage that was created. Much to their surprise, the armor had even reformed. Metal, chrysalis and all the other material stacked and forged together, appeared over the body glove revealed.
Nora gasped, feeling the gash on her forehead heal and Nebula couldn't believe the plates of her armor had reformed. The wounds she had gained were no more, healed with nothing, not even a scar, to show that they were in any real danger. Channeling more power, the walls were reformed, the damaged lights were realigned, no longer blinking or dangling by stripped, spare wiring. The walls dented were pulled straight, almost popping. Once the shaking and the energy died down, the three women looked around – there was no sign of battle.
"Take me to the roof." Ren said simply. "Jaune is on his way. How long have I been asleep?"
Nora was the first to protest, but after witnessing the look he had, she quickly fell silent. "A-Almost two weeks. Ozpin delayed the second semester after hearing that you were in a coma. He assumed the worst after Jaune, Pyrrha and Blake didn't return from Menagerie…"
"Don't worry about that for now." Ren nodded. "They're on their way."
Swinging the infirmary door, he was met immediately by Creeps and a pair of Boarbatusk. Before they could react, he threw his arms out, a light purple-light pink energy shot from his hands, latching onto the Grimm. Their bodies collapsed and just like the Grimm spike, they were dusted, leaving no remnant of their being. With another wave of his hands, the ruined hallway was repaired, the lights came to life, the doors were refitted and what none of them expected, the doors opened to reveal soldiers of the King's Fist, armed and ready to keep fighting.
"W-What is happening?" One of them, a private, asked. "I thought…I thought the Grimm got us."
"Not yet, soldiers." Ren walked forward, his sandals clapping and sliding against the pristine floorings. "Your King is returning soon. Stand and fight for you Kingdom, fight for you King."
"T-The King is coming back?" He could hear them whisper.
There was a certain joy in their tone. Ren could feel their excitement. For a moment, there was that envy, that jealousy. He chalked it up to the God of Darkness, but his words rang in his head. I will cease to exist. So, was it truly that God of Darkness? Ren fought the thoughts from his head. He had to admit, there was that hint, that inkling of disappointment that they felt that way for Jaune, but never for him. But after today, Ren knew they would feel the same. There was no place for him to be a background character, there was no reason. With power like this…he could change the world.
Throwing his arms around, the purple energy no longer separates, rose pink energy sprang from his hands, latching onto the wrought steel beams and the empty, glassless window panes. Twisting his wrist, glass reformed, beam supports were reformed. Clearing the floor with his power, he and the platoon of revived and healed infantry followed close. Huntsmen and Huntresses now awake, followed as well, preparing for the inevitable.
They arrived at the emergency stairwell and elevators, finding nothing but destruction. "Infantry, huntsmen, huntresses – find your Fireteams and help the Infantry clear out the floors below us. The Grimm are pouring into the city but they aren't infinite. I will go to the Main Control Room in the Hangar and help them fend off the Grimm. Go!"
"You heard the Commander!" The same private shouted. "Let's go! For Vale! For the King!"
There was a shuffling of boots and clicking ammunition pouches as the infantry vanished from sight. Huntsmen and Huntresses followed after them, their heavy boots and power armor fizzing to life, overshields powered to maximum. "Dew, Nebula. You don't have to come with me and Nora. Right now, our mission is probably too dangerous–"
"Just, shut up, Lie." Nebula said. "We're coming with you."
"What happened to the rest of NDGO?"
Nora looked away.
"What?" Ren asked. "What happened?"
"T-The same thing that happened to CFVY…"
Yang fell behind an overturned eighteen-wheeler, reloading Ember Celica. Beside her, Ruby was shouting commands at the top of her lungs, her silver eyes glimmering. To the rear, Weiss was defending their field artillery on the bridge with her glyphs and ice structures, but the Grimm Spitters were too numerous. With the Beowolves being gunned down by rotary cannons of the King's Fist. Their defenses were strong, but they were running low on ammunition and supplies. With all the wounded from the suicidal Bombers and the Spitters immaculate range and accuracy, there was little they could do.
"Sis…" Yang panted. "What's your ammo count."
"It doesn't matter." Ruby answered, falling behind cover to reload. A plethora of spikes and Grimm projectiles clashed with the broken truck bed. Cocking Crescent Rose, she rose again, pulling the bolt and loaded another explosive Dust round into the barrel. Pulling the trigger and pulling the bolt in rapid action, a score of Ursai were killed, their heads exploding leaving smoking, steaming stumps. Finally taking the time to look at her sister, Ruby sighed softly. "Right now…we have to keep fighting, with or without ammo."
"But Ruby, how are we going to fight them all off?"
There was a flash of inspiration. "Freezer burn. Ice Flower. Team Attacks. SSSN is still fighting beside us, they'll follow close and we'll do everything in our power to ease the pressure on our troops. Right now, the people are what's important."
"Calling all Fireteams and CO's." Speakers hanging from posts and light posts blared into existence. "To all within the Kingdom of Vale. The Council abandons you – your King does not. The King of Vale, Jaune Arc of the House of Arc is on his way. Don't lose hope, don't be afraid. He will save us all."
The three women looked to one another. "W-Why would they announce it like that?! I thought the whole point of all of this was to keep it a secret?! Everyone from Vale Proper to the slums heard that announcement!"
"It doesn't matter now!" Sun could be heard in the distance. "Deathstalkers! They're coming for the safe zone we created! Come on!"
"Clair…" Doré looked to the speakers. "What the fuck?"
"I thought…" She looked to her eldest sister and Carolina.
Rosemary, however, raised her submachineguns, pulling the triggers. Grimm fell like wheat to the scythe. Raising her bo staff, she bashed bone plates and crushed their skulls, killing the Beowolves and Ursai with single hits. "Right now, that doesn't matter. Keep fighting. The civilians here need help. CRDL and CFVY are lost…NDGO too."
"Tucker, give me a sitrep!" Carolina turned on her heels. Removing her helmet, she wiped the sweat and dirt from her bare forehead. Clair knew better.
"Uh…" The man fumbled for words. Tucker looked like he was under a trance, his eyes locked with his broken sword.
"Sarge?"
The man leaned against a barrier of concrete and steel. Having finally removed his helmet to catch a breath, Doré had never known he would look so old. "I'm still kickin' if that's what your askin'."
"Simmons? What's the word from HQ?" Carolina dropped magazines and quickly reloaded.
"Aruna, don't move." Simmons said. "The signal drops every time you lower your arm."
"Aruna. Just do it." Clair sheathed Joyeuse. "Nyanza, what do you see?"
Holding binoculars, she quickly pocketed them, raising her sniper rifle. Clicking the knobs on the scope, she fell to a knee. "There are Apathy Grimm on twentieth and main. A platoon is stuck."
"Carolina…" Doré looked. "And she's already gone."
"The King of Vale?!" Alexios roared.
The council was in chaos. Businessmen, powerful moguls and worse yet, the Noble Families were stirring. Watching the chaos rage from the many cameras they placed throughout the city, the supposed army of this King of Vale combatted the Grimm infestation. Without warning, without indication, without even the slightest of hints, an army had formed from the depths of Vale's unwatched slums and ghettos. Refugees were hoisted and shipped off to safe zones guarded by what looked to be state-of-the-art defense systems that were only seen on Atlesian military bases. Artillery, walkers, tanks and vehicles raced across the ruined streets of their great city and kingdom.
Claude had at least the slightest hint of surprise on his face at the announcement. "K-King…?"
"Answer me, Arc!" Alexios slammed his fists into the table. "What kind of game are you playing?! First the attack on the docks with those Faunus wretches, now this?! What did I say to you, my fellow councilmen? I said the Arc family was preparing to make their move. Now that his only son is of age, it all only seems to fall into place for him."
"I don't know what any of this is!" Claude defended himself. "My son is a student at Beacon! You can ask the Headmaster!"
"Ozpin has been distant since your spawn decided to go to his school. Our fathers and our father's, father's, fathers were there when the King of Vale stepped down and decided that there would never be another Monarch in Vale again. They signed the accordance with the other Kings and Emperors of the Four Kingdoms when the Great War ended. It is our job as the chosen and voted council of this great Kingdom to maintain our laws."
"With the Kingdom on fire…what are you proposing, Alexios?" A councilman asked.
"I vote to have the Arcs put under investigation for treason and transpiring to overthrow the Valean Council." Alexios began. "This army, it's armed and supplied enough to fight conventional warfare, not just fighting Grimm. What could your son possibly be planning to have such an army – how did he even procure the resources, the currency or the manpower to create such a thing?"
"I…don't know." Claude rose from his seat. "I…"
"Right now, however, the battle is more important. When the Grimm are erased and the threat is diminished, we will take your vote into consideration, Argent. For now, your forces would be greatly appreciated."
"I'll call upon my forces from Orléans. A division can be deployed within thirty minutes if signal doesn't cut out again." Claude turned on his heels, a blue cloak floating after him. "And Alexios…you'll find your attempts to subdue my family in vain…I will get to the bottom of this myself."
Cardin slammed a door shut, gasping for relief. The air within the building reeked of blood and gore. It was so stale, so rank, he felt his stomach twist with every inhale. Dove leaned against a counter, trying to put pressure on his wound, but there was clearly nothing he could do but wait for his aura to take over. Velvet on the other hand stood watch, trying to keep her hands clean and avoid touching the Grimm muck that had formed on the floors and walls.
Looking around, it was like a poison, a real infestation of the worse type. "Guys…did you hear the announcement? Jaune's coming back…"
"But…the secret…I thought it was supposed to be a secret." Velvet whispered. "What's the council going to do?"
"What are our father's going to say?" Dove winced.
"I…don't know, but it doesn't really matter now, does it?" Cardin dropped his shotgun and drew his mace. "Right now, we need to find Russel and save whoever is left in this building. With all the muck hanging around…I don't doubt there are people trapped. Wait…"
"I-It's back…"
"Cardin…"
Click. Click. Click.
Putting a finger to his lips, he pulled Dove from the counter and gave him a small tap on the shoulder. Velvet fell back to back with them, her hologram weapons coming to life. "Is it coming…?"
"I hope it isn't…" Cardin closed his eyes, activating his semblance. The mace head started to glow, the explosive energy beginning to pressurize. "Seer are dangerous when they want to be…"
Click. Click. Click.
He could hear it hovering by, its tentacles dragging against the muck around it. There was no telling when it would show up or how, but it was coming.
Ren smiled, putting the microphone down. Nora was on the verge of bursting with confusion, thankfully, Dew saw it coming and put a hand on her shoulder, leading her away from the command center. Nebula however, didn't have such reservations and quickly pulled the horned ninja from the console. Given the confused looks from Major Blanche and Anthony Greene, the entire Control Center, the Hangar, everyone stood in silence.
"Why would you do that?!" Nebula questioned. "I thought the whole point of this was to keep the King's place as a secret!"
"Because…" Ren said. "Look at those walls that the council raised. They did that to save their own skins. They've done nothing to help us – even their police forces, some we've fought beside already at the Battle of the Docks, are holding on the other side of the Redwood Bridge. You said I've been out for weeks and the Grimm have been attacking for days. Where's the law enforcement? Where are the defense forces? I know Vale has them. The Council doesn't care for us – we care for us. Right now, every man, woman and child living behind those walls are in danger. Everyone this side of the great river are in danger. Their fear draws the Grimm, their negative emotions makes the Grimm stronger. If you haven't noticed, there are too many types of Grimm running about the city streets and flying through our skies. This many people, this much negativity – we're practically destroying ourselves."
"The only way to truly fight the Grimm is with hope."
Pulling Nora's scroll, he pressed a few buttons, concentrating with each press and swipe. Infantry rushed to the elevators, throwing barricades of steel plates and wall fixtures. They pulled pieces of LAHAT doors that were ripped off by aerial Grimm and bolted them down against every entrance. As Hornets and LAHAT entered the hangar, they were refitted and whatever they dropped, it was added to the makeshift defenses. Ren looked around, not surprised in the slightest at how bad everything descended. If anything, it should have been worse.
Gears shifted beneath them, metal plates shifted beneath them, revealing several weapons lockers. Reaching out, he swung one open, revealing a pair of black machine-pistoles, almost exact replicas of Stormflower, except with green accents and machined with industrial grade material. Cocking the weapons, they hissed and extended blades, almost looking like kukri. Looking to the women present, he nodded and walked away, not a word shared.
"Wait, Ren, where are you going?!" Nebula shouted. "If the Command Center falls, then there's nothing the King's Fist can do to hold the City!"
"The Command Center won't." Ren simply said. "I still need to get to the roof. There are a few floors remaining. Judging by the activity here in the hangar, the Grimm haven't made it that far. It should be a straight shot to the rooftop."
"But why?" Nora asked. "Our people are down there, dying, Ren."
"Jaune is on his way." Ren simply said one more. "What we will do is going to be beyond anything that has ever happened on Remnant. You will see."
Running through the hangar, he bolted between soldiers and airmen moving debris about. Sparks fell from the ceiling as Hornets were refitted with new engines and reloaded on missiles and bullets. LAHAT were refitted with new doors, new Dust rockets and most important of all, infantry armed and ready to join the fight once again. He didn't care for that – he needed to be ready for Jaune. Bursting through the emergency stairwell doors, he dashed up the stairs, burning aura as he did. Ignoring the back blast of bazookas and rocket launchers, ignoring the spiraling rage of rotary cannons, he finally arrived at the rooftop.
Practically punching through the doorway, he came to witness SAM defenses and machinegun nests and sandbags. Men with stingers and missile launchers tried to pick out the Gryphons from the sky and the Nevermore that came too close to the HQ. Nora, Nebula and Dew appeared behind him, sweat dripping down their faces. They called to him with what little breath they had trying to get him to calm down. Ren however, channeled aura into his legs and launched into the air, landing on a the highest point of the tower.
Looking at the city, he could see everything. Grimm moved through the streets like a disease, taking everything, every avenue and road. The alleys were full of infantry trying their hardest to survive; buildings were piled with civilians and refugees just trying to catch a breath. The streets were littered with vehicles abandoned and ablaze. Others were completely covered by the rubble of fallen skyscrapers and ruined businesses. But across the river, he could see nothing but traffic and scared civilians. The Grimm didn't come for them, but they were afraid nonetheless, making things infinitely more difficult.
From the pillars of smoke billowing into the sky, the white clouds drawn across the deep orange rays spreading across the cerulean canvass, to the warships in the distance, Ren knew everything would be fine. Pulling all the aura he could muster at the time, rose pink energy rushed from his body overtaking the HQ building in a cloud of aura. Each floor was taken, engulfed and surrounded. Every man and woman with a soul was possessed by the power, leaving them invisible to the Grimm coming. Roaring out with the engines of their aircraft, with the screech of Nevermore dashing by.
The energy came as a cloud, wrapping around every block and skyscraper it passed by. Infantry below now invisible to the Grimm, opened fire with a new vigor, blasting at the now mindless, defenseless Grimm. Casualties were coming to a halt as more and more men and women were taken by his semblance. As the cloud spread, something incredible happened. Even as the sun disappeared in the distance sea, the darkness parted slowly. The clouds were ripped in half and the sky was revealed in its azure beauty.
Ren smiled, wiping the blood dripping from his nose. "He's here. Your King is here!"
Peering through the cover of clouds, a small fleet of airships appeared. They looked similar to those of Atlas, but their colors were more earth-like, browns, blacks and light mahogany. There were almost six of them, large and pouring fighters and aircraft into Vale's airspace. There were three LAHAT that appeared however, that sent shivers up and down the ninja's back.
Decorated with lightning bolts and now, with antlers, one of the gunships landed on the rooftop, blowing dirt and Grimm muck away. Dropping from the antenna, he couldn't stop the smile breaking across his face. The doors of the ship hissed, shooting open to reveal three people dressed in power armor. One wore red and bronze armor, Milo and Akouo wielded. Around her waist, a long, flowing crimson sash. On the far side, a another wore black and white armor, black ribbons wrapped around their forearms and waist. Gambol Shroud hung from her back with a pair of submachineguns in her hands.
The one in the middle though, the four huntsmen-in-training recognized immediately. He stood in his white and bronze power armor, waist bearing a similar red sash. On his left forearm, a large kite shield bearing the Arc sigil was wielded and in his right hand, a white glowing broadsword waited with excitement. It was Jaune Arc, the King of Vale and upon his head, a pair of large antlers. The three walked from the LAHAT, the other two removing their helmets, revealing Pyrrha and Blake, the trainees couldn't help but gasp at what they saw.
A roar broke them from their amazement; a Nevermore was charging for them! Without even looking, the LAHAT took off into the air and the beast was simply blasted into nothingness. Jaune's hand was raised, steaming with heat. Sheathing his blade, the boy grabbed Ren for the tightest hug he had ever given him.
"Ren. Sorry I took so long."
"It's alright. You're here now."
"Are you ready?" Jaune asked. "You know what will happen after this, right? Nothing will be same after we do this. The lives he had before will be impossible to have. Are you sure you can sacrifice that?"
"That is all I can sacrifice." Ren simply nodded. "We must undo this damage."
"Then let's not waste anymore time." Jaune nodded. "Pyrrha, Blake. Get everyone off the rooftop, get a good view."
Getting the message immediately, Pyrrha and Blake immediately started contacting Lightning Squad and Fireteam MSTN, coordinating with the forces that had just arrived. The airships that hovered over the city also began to move. Aircraft started to clear from the sky and the warships that arrived moved further from the city. As soon as the rooftop was cleared, Jaune and Ren shared a nod. Aura shifting within their bodies, they raised their arms, rose pink and golden energy rushed from their bodies picking up winds. Their bodies began to float, hovering into the sky.
Their light exploded in every direction, blinding and muting all noise that came from the battlefield. No gunfire, no roaring engines, no explosions. The howls of Grimm and the shouts of soldiers. Even across the great river, the councilmen of the Valean council had to shield their eyes. Their power exploded powerfully, rending the clouds nonexistent, clearing the skies for miles and miles. As the light spread, so too did their healing powers. Lives that were cut short were returned, debris that was created was wiped away, returning to where it once was. Grimm that were close to taking life were dusted, leaving no trace of their existence.
In the distance, Ruby's silver eyes came to life, matching the same light. Standing with Crescent Rose on the ground, her shadow and cloak covering both Yang and Weiss. Further still, in the buildings slowly repairing, Cardin, Dove and Velvet stood in front of Russel who was trapped in Grimm muck. Their necks wrapped in Seer tentacles. The hair-raising clicking sounds slowly deafened by the rising light. In the streets, the soldiers fighting back against the screeching howls of the horde of Apathy Grimm were on their final leg as Carolina appeared over them. CNDR and the Reds and Blues following close on her heels, ignoring the Beowolves and Boarbatusk chasing thier warthog. The chaos came to a halt, time stopped around the warriors of Vale. It was all too surreal.
Skyscrapers were lifted from the streets, the ruined roads were reformed and everything that was lost was replaced, reborn and refit. Fixtures of the roadways were realigned and the soldiers, civilians and refugees that were in the streets days before, were returned, not a scratch, not a wound. As the power continued, the walls that were erected to separate Vale proper from the invaded sections were destroyed by the sheer power of the shockwave. But like the Grimm, before the walls could damage anything else, the fragments were dusted.
As the light died, as the energy came to a halt, the pair landed on the rooftop, collapsing to their knees, panting, gasping, almost begging for air. Blood cascaded from their noses, eyes and ears. Their lungs felt constricted, almost squeezed of air. Their hearts pounded against their chests, fighting for their next beat. Their stomachs twisted, wrenching in unnatural ways. Before they could even move, they threw up, blood spraying across the pebbled flooring. They tried to wipe their faces, but their arms refused to comply; everything was numb.
"J-Jaune…" Ren said hoarsely.
"Y-Yeah…" Jaune whimpered as he fell to the floor, cheek planted. His sapphire eyes, speckled with crimson flickers, stared at the magenta eyes of his dearest friend. There was a silence between them as the world, the city, came to a resonant roar. Little by little, cheers erupted from the city below as soldiers cheered their names in unison.
Jaune Arc! Lie Ren! Jaune Arc! Lie Ren!
"Jaune…l-let's never do that again…"
So, here we are, at chapter 30.
I'm gonna be real here, I didn't think it would even go on this long, but hey, I'm always open to surprises.
Next chapter and probably the next ten or so chapters will bring us to my changes of Seasons 2 and 3
