Chapter 38.

(Zac POV)

It was one day from the full moon. Mel was back at her place. Mimmi must of been out with Ondina and Serena. I was working on other things, getting school work out of the way. Then I was working on plans for this new game I got trying the get a good way of getting through it without dying so much as I do on some of the other games.

It was going so well till there was a knock on my door and Erik came in.

"What," I said.

"So I'm thinking it doesn't matter if the trident's broken, It's the stone that's important," Erik said. "Remember how it glowed in the hologram in the chamber,"

"So?" I said.

"So maybe the stone is all you need to activate it," Erik said. "The next full moon is tomorrow night Come on Zac, We find the stone, We can do this,"

"The Mermaids took what was left if the trident My bet they've destroyed it and the stone," I said.

"But you don't know for sure," Erik said. "If there is even the slightest chance we can get the chamber up and running, we should take it, We've got to do it. We owe it to all mermen,"

"No, as far as I'm concerned the Trident is gone, You should move on," I said.

"No," Erik said. "If that stone's out there, I'm going to find it," Then left.

I went out and I headed for the Cafe where I saw Mel, Mimmi, Ondina and Serena. And Went and sat down next to them.

"Serena when that trident got Zapped what did you do with the pieces?" I said. "There was a stone in it Remember? Just like the one in the moon ring, But much bigger,"

"How could I forget?" Serena said.

"What happened to it?" I said.

"What was left of it, I hid," Serena said.

"The trident wasn't destroyed?" Ondina said.

"Why didn't you tell us?" Mimmi said.

"The Trident was broken the stone wasn't active," Mel said.

"There is nothing to worry about," Serena said.

"Are you sure? I need to know it's safe," I said.

"Trust me it is," Serena said.

"The pod won't come back to Mako if there's any possibility the chamber can be activated," Ondina said.

"When was the last time you checked it," I said.

"Not for some time," Serena said. "Let's go,"

Then we ended up back in the grotto at Mel's.

"It's been in here whole time," I said.

"I thought it was the safest place," Serena said.

"And I agreed," Rita said. "Not many people know what lies beneath my house,"

"Open and let's see," Mel said.

"It's okay, it's harmless now," Serena said.

"It is like the moon ring stone," Mimmi said.

"It's hard to believe how much trouble that's caused," I said.

"So nothing to worry about, It's safe and sound," Serena said. Passing it to me and I grabbed the stone and it fired up.

"Wow," I said.

"What did you do to it?" Mimmi said.

"I just touched it," I said. Then saw Mimmi moving to touch it. "Mimmi, No," I said. dropping the box and grabbed her hand before she could.

"Don't touch that stone," Rita said as I put it back in the box.

"It's only glowed around you guys not me," I said.

"You hadn't been through the seventh moon cycle before," Rita said. "It's when your connection to Mako grew stronger, the stone seems to be connected to you, It's reaching out to you,"

"That can't be good," Ondina said.

"It's the stone, It's the key to starting the chamber," I said.

"You just turned the stone on again," Ondina said.

"If the stone steals our power, our magic," Rita said.

"Then that's what the chamber does," Mel said.

"But on a bigger scale," I said. Then I went and drew the symbols on the pedestal. "These are the symbols on the pedestal,"

"And that represents the moon pool, Right," Rita said.

"Right, But it must do more than just steal magic," I said.

"I think the chamber was designed to draw the magic from the moon pool," Rita said. "It amplifies the effect of the stone to take all power from Mermaids,"

"But it won't do just that will it," I said.

"No, We need our magic to survive, It's part of us," Rita said.

"Meaning if that chamber comes on line, you will die,"

"Yes," Rita said.

"Not happening, This needs to go somewhere it can never be found ever again," I said.

Then Ondina left.

"Serena, Get me another box," I said.

"Why?" Serena said.

"I'm going to make it look like I've got it, While you take the Stone in another box and find somewhere to destroy it, We can't let Erik get hold of it," I said.

"Why," Mimmi said.

"Erik wants the chamber to activate," I said.

"And he is going to stop at nothing to get that done," Mel said.

"From what I could get off him yes," I said.

"Here," Serena said.

Then I put it into the box.

"Find somewhere and get rid of it, If Erik gets this there is no telling what he will do," I said.

"What should we do with it," Serena said.

"That's up to you, I can't know where it is," I said. Then Left.

When I got to my place, Mel was there.

"Hey," I said.

"Hey, yourself," Mel said.

"How'd it go," I said.

"All done," Mel said.

"Good," I said. Then once we went in my place was completely destroyed.

"What the," Mel said.

"Erik," I said. "He knew I would have the stone, But since he didn't find it here,"

Then I started to see Erik through Mimmi.

"Erik there, Back at yours, Come on," I said.

Then we ran straight there, we didn't have time to swim.

"I can make it safe, I know I can," Erik said.

"That's never going to happen," I said. "Give me the stone,"

"I'm a merman, That chamber is mine as much as it is yours," Erik said.

"No, It's mine," I said. Getting down there in front of Mimmi. "My ancestor built it,"

"And he was too scared to use it," Erik said. "But I'm not,"

"You can't activate the chamber, I'm the only one who can, Now give me the Gorram stone," I said.

Then Erik raised it against me and it felt like energy was being drained from me. Enough till I was out cold.

When I came round.

"Zac," Mimmi said. As I saw her and Mel next to me.

"I never felt like that," I said. Getting onto the couch.

"Here," Rita said. "This will make you feel better,"

"We found a good drop-off point," Serena said. coming in. "What happened?"

"Erik took the trident stone," Rita said. As I drank some Coffee.

"Not only that, It felt I was being drained, When I tried to get it off him," I said. Then I tried to get steam out of the Tea pot but nothing. "What the hell has he done to me?"

"The Trident stone has taken your magic," Rita said.

"Does that mean he can activate the chamber with out me," I said.

"It'll be as if you were there yourself,"

"Erik will be able to start the chamber up," Mimmi said.

"And the full moon is tomorrow night," Serena said.

"3 moon rings didn't do a damn thing to it last time, doubt 4 or 5 would make any difference," I said.

"We'll lose Mako forever," Ondina said.

"Zac come on, let's get you up to mine," Mel said. Helping me up and took me to her room where I just laid down. Just falling asleep.

(Mel POV)

I saw Zac fell asleep. So I went back to the others.

"How's Zac," Mimmi said.

"Asleep," I said. "What did that stone do to him,"

"It drained most of his Magic, If he can get his hands on the Trident stone he maybe able to get all of his magic back," Mum said.

Then I went up to my room and got in next to Zac and snuggled into him.

When I woke up, Zac was still asleep and I noticed Mimmi peaking into see him. But she could she he still asleep to so she left.

I went and got changed and something for us to eat.

(Zac POV)

When I woke up, I was in Mel's bed but she wasn't there, But then her door opened and she came back in with some food.

"Zac, You wake," Mel said.

"Yeap," I said.

"Good, got some food for us," Mel said. Setting it on the table and I tried to lift one but I still couldn't. "Zac we try again later,"

"Erik's gonna activate the chamber, It's a full moon and I'm useless," I said.

"Zac, This isn't about whether or not you've got powers," Mel said.

"If he activates that chamber," I said.

"Hey, Come on," Mel said. Then we left for the Cafe and sat down as Mel got what we were going to have.

"What If could talk with him make him see some sense," I said.

"You think?" Mel said. "Anyway he's not likely to show his face till the full moon tonight,"

"or not," I said.

"Relax Zac," Erik said. "I'm not here to hurt you, the chamber was built for merman, you will always be welcome,"

"Don't do it, Erik, It's too dangerous," I said.

Then Erik pulled out the stone. "Sorry Zac, But tonight we're going to see what that place can do,"

Then I tried going for it and I got sent back against the railing.

"Stay away from Mako tonight," Erik said. "All of you,"

Then I felt it let go.

"Zac," Mimmi said. coming to me.

But I just left.

"Zac, Don't let Erik get to you," Mel said.

"We'll find a way to stop him," Mimmi said.

"You can't possibly think that, you saw what he did to me," I said.

"We have to try," Mimmi said.

"Well you going have to do it without me," I said.

"Zac, you can't just give up?" Mel said.

"Why not, what can I possibly do? come on tell me," I said. But they couldn't so I just left.

(Mel POV)

"His given up," I said. "That really shook him,"

"There has to be something we can do," Mimmi said.

"I don't know if we can do anything," I said. "I've never seen Zac like this,"

(Zac POV)

I was sitting by the beach.

Then Cam showed up.

"Do you remember when we used to go fishing on Mako?" Cam said. "As far as we knew it was just a place to get eaten alive by mosquitoes and eat half cooked fish, We had no idea what Mako really was, And Now we do and we can't ignore it,"

"Cam," I said.

"Your ancestors built that chamber, It's belongs to you, Not Erik," Cam said.

"I can't even more a blade of grass, Let alone take on Erik," I said.

"Are you seriously gonna roll over and let him win?" Cam said. "Okay, Maybe you're right, maybe it's not possible to stop Erik, Maybe he deserves to win, maybe you're not so special after all," Then he left.

(Mel POV)

"You sure this will work," Mimmi said.

"It has to work" I said.

Then My phone rang and I answered. "Yes," I said.

"Sorry, Mel, I tried," Cam said. Then he hung up.

"Well," Mimmi said.

"It didn't work, Mimmi" I said. "We're on our own,"

"Then let's go and let the others know," Mimmi said.

Then we went back to Mine.

"How'd it go," Ondina said.

"Zac can't help us," Mimmi said.

"Then we must do what mermaids have always done, Help ourselves," Ondina said.

"We know Erik is gonna go to the chamber so why don't we just take him on," Serena said. "We have moon rings,"

"Zac was right, It's not going to be enough," I said.

"Or that easy," Mum said. "Erik has his own powers,"

"But he also has Zac's, in the Trident stone," I said.

"Veridia believed that the way to destroy the chamber was while it was being activated," Ondina said.

"If that's true then we need to be in there with him tonight," Serena said. "During the full moon,"

"There's a possibility that if we do that Mako could be destroyed," Mimmi said.

"If we want out home back, we don't have a choice," Ondina said.

"If we had Zac there could of been another choice," I said.

(Zac POV)

I couldn't just sat back and let my Sister and Mel die, So I was waiting for Erik.

"Didn't expect to see you here," Erik said.

"I couldn't keep away," I said.

"You're going to try and stop me," Erik said.

"You said this was a merman place You said I would be welcome here, But you forgot one thing, It's my place not yours, Even without powers, I'm still a merman, And that chamber is mine," I said.

Then Erik opened it. Then turned about to say something.

"Don't even try it," I said. Walking pass him.

The Moon finally rose and then the Chamber lit up.

"It's time," Erik said. "You feel it Zac, We're at the crossroads of history,"

Then knew they would come, but Erik was already activating it. I need to stop him before he can put that stone in. Then the Hologram of the Trident showed up. Then Erik went for it and I went at him.

"No you don't," I said.

"I though you were smarter than this Zac," Erik said. "Don't you see what I'm trying to do?"

"You are going to kill them," I said.

"I'm protecting them," Erik said. "Once I'm in control of the chamber they'll be safe,"

I pushed him off and went for the stone but then I got threw away from it.

When I managed to get back up, Ondina, Serena, Mimmi and Mel was down on the ground holding themselves.

"Mimmi, Mel talk to me," I said. But they couldn't.

Then Evie showed up.

"Help me, I need to shut it down," I said. As She helped me up. Then I managed to get in and Grab the stone but I couldn't get it fully out yet. Then It shot me out with it. But I lost focus as the world went black.

(Mel POV)

It finally stopped and the water sink. Then I saw Zac.

"Zac," I said going over. "Zac, come on talk to me here, come on,"

(Mimmi POV)

We finally were all back on our feet and the Chamber was starting to shut down.

Then I saw Mel with Zac.

"Zac," Mel said. "We need the moon rings,"

"We can't the stone took all their power," Serena said.

"There has to be something," Mel said.

I went over right next to him. "No," I said. "Don't give up Zac," But he never answered. Then I saw the Stone. That was the only chance we would have. I grabbed it and brought it to Zac and Got his hand putting it in his. "Come on, Zac, Don't leave me, Come back,"

(Mel POV)

Zac, No, Come on, Come back Was all I could think about. As the stone was glowing then start pulsing then There was this bright light, But Once it was gone so was Mimmi and Zac.

"Where are they?" I said.

"I don't know," Serena said.

"Mimmi, Zac," I shouted but nothing.

"They could be where it dropped me off," Ondina said.

"Let's go," I said. Then we ran there but there was no sign of them Or the stone.

"Where are they?" Ondina said.

"I don't know," Serena said.

"We need to talk with Mum, Maybe she can tell us something," I said. Running back there.

Where did Zac and Mimmi go?
