Author's Notes

Last chapter we saw Chase acquire his second badge as well as go to Pokestar Star and have his second run in with Team Plasma before heading off to Castelia City

I stood at the stern of the ferry taking my Pokémon and I to Castelia City staring out over the sea when I heard footsteps behind me. "Hey Chase can we talk?" Cameron asked.

"Sure Cam, what did you talk about?" I responded.

"First off what did that Team Plasma guy mean about Flocessy Ranch?" He asked.

I sighed knowing he was going to ask me that then responded "I encounter that guy at Floccessy Ranch when he tried stealing the Herdier. The reason I didn't say anything was because I'm pretty sure that nothing like that will happen again and it wasn't worth worrying them".

Cameron nodded then responded "Ok I getcha man". I could tell Cameron didn't agree with my decision to not tell the Ranch Owners about their Herdier almost being stolen but I could also tell he wasn't pressing the issue.

"Is that all you wanna talk about Cam?" I asked him.

Cameron shook his head then answered "No I also want to know why you show up with such a cute girl and the town's gym leader to boot".

"Was she cute? I hadn't noticed." I responded smirking, deliberately avoiding the question.

"Chase don't do that." Cameron said irritably.

"Do what?" I asked innocently.

"Ignoring my questions and answering with your ones of your own".

"Alright Cam I'll tell you. We came from Pokestar Studios." I told him.

"Why were you two coming from there?" Cameron asked curiously.

"I was asked to go there and she tagged along for reasons of her own." I responded with a shrug indicating that the reason wasn't that important. Cameron nodded getting the point then walked off leaving me to my thoughts.

A few hours later

When we arrived in Castelia City that evening Cameron and I got off the ferry and we headed for the Pokémon Centre. As we walked to Cameron asked "Are we gonna see if we can find Team Plasma tomorrow?"

"Yeah we better. Though I still don't really understand who or what Team Plamsa is." I told him.

Cameron just looked at and asked in surprise "Seriously man. They almost took over the Pokémon league two years ago".

I nodded then responded "I wasn't even in the region two years ago remember".

Cameron nodded then responded "Oh yeah that's right. Where'd you go again?"

He asked me. I waved the question off and responded "Just tell me what they did two years ago". Cam nodded then proceeded to explain what happened two years ago. As he was explaining I saw a sign in front of a house that read 'Name Rater's House'. "Hold up Cam I see a place I wanted to go." I told him. Cameron looked at me slightly confused until I pointed at the sign. Cameron nodded and I went and knocked on the door.

The door was opened and an old man asked "Yes how may I help you?"

"Um are you the Name Rater?" I asked him.

The old man nodded and then responded "Yes I am. Would you like me to change the name of one of your Pokémon?"

I nodded then answered "Yes my Bronzor".

"Alright hand me it's Pokéball and I will change its nickname." He told me.

I handed him Bronzor's Pokéball and said "Thank you, the nickname I have chosen is Thuhir". The old man took Bronzor and then came back a few minutes later handed me Thuhir's Pokéball and told me "Here you go young man. Your Bronzor has been renamed".

"Thank you." I told him. He nodded then headed back inside his house. Cameron and I resumed our way to the Pokémon Centre.

The next morning Cameron and I decided we'd look for Team Plasma. As soon as we exited the Pokémon Centre Cameron was about to run off when I held him back and said "Wait man, before you run off lets exchange Xtransceivers numbers".

"Why?" He asked slightly confused.

"Because if I find 'em I'll need you're help in dealing with them. Also after we've dealt with them we'll be heading off in different directions and I would like to be able to keep in touch with you. We aren't in Aspertia City anymore." I told him. He nodded, we exchanged numbers then we heading off in different directions. I then spent the next hour wandering around the city trying to find the Team Plasma members that had fled from Virbank. I wasn't having much luck so I decided to head back to the docks. As I made my way back to the docks I heard my Xtransciever start ringing. I answered it and saw Cameron's face pop up on my screen. "Hey Cam, what's up?" I asked.

"I think I've found Team Plasma".

"Really, where are you?" I asked him.

"I'm outside the Castelia Sewer," he told me before hanging up.

"So you're lookin' for Team Plasma too?" a female voice asked me from behind.

I turned around and saw a girl around my own age standing in front of me and cried out in surprise "Woah. Where the hell did you come from?".

The girl in front of me then repeated "Are you lookin' for Team Plasma too?".

I nodded then responded "Yeah I am". The girl then turned and ran off but came back a moment later and told me in a somewhat annoyed tone "Come on, lets head to the sewers". She then ran off again so I had to sprint to catch up too her. When I caught up too her she turned to me and asked "Your name wouldn't happen to be Chase would it?"

I gave her a surprised look then responded "Yeah it is. How did you know?"

She let out a laugh then answered "Roxie mentioned it when she called Burgh to let him know Team Plasma might be in the city. I'm Iris by the way". Iris then picked up her pace ending the brief conversation. Half an hour Iris suddenly stopped and told me "We've arrived at the entrance to Castelia Sewers," she then pointed at someone standing near the entrance and asked "is that your friend?"

I nodded then called out "Yo Cam".

Cameron walked over to me and said "Hey Chase. Glad you made it so quickly".

I let out an embarrassed chuckle then responded "It would have taken me longer if it wasn't for Iris here". Iris walked up to Cameron and introduced herself to him. After she had done that I asked "So Cam what makes you think Team Plasma is in the sewer?"

"I thought I saw a couple of people who looked like they were wearing the Team Plasma outfit come in here," he told me.

I nodded in response and Iris said "Alright you two should go in after them. I'll wait here in case they come out this way". Cameron and I nodded and walked into the sewers.

After we walked in I turned to Cameron and told him "We should have our Pokemon searching as well as us that way we have a better chance of finding those Team Plasma members". He nodded and we sent out all our Pokemon.

"Alright everyone you should split up into pairs and spread out," Cameron told our Pokemon. Zelen and Shimone headed off in one direction, Lizbeth and Thuhir headed off in another direction while Khaeg and Cameron's Pignite and Pidove stayed by us. We wandered around the sewers for maybe half an hour before Cameron and I heard a cry of anguish. We ran to the source of the noise and what we saw completely stunned us. Zelen and Shimone were surrounded by a pack of Rattata, Shimone was on the ground, her neck bent at an unnatural angle and I could see that she was dead. Zelen was crying out in anguish when suddenly Zelen started glowing white and evolved into a Servine. He then grabbed a Rattata by the throat with Vine Whip and started strangling it while the rest fled. "You. Killed. Shimone." Zelen told the Rattata, hatred and rage in his voice.

"Zelen stop it," I cired out in horror but he didn't hear me. Lisbeth and Thuhir then showed up at that moment. Lisbeth took in the situation and flew at Zelen with a Quick Attack. As she flew at Zelen she too glowed white and evolved into a Tranquil. She then made contact with Zelen which made him release the Rattata he was strangling. It then fled and Zelen yelled "I was avenging Shimone why the hell did you stop me?"

"I understand how you feel but if you had of killed that Rattata you would have been no better than it." Lisbeth told him sorrrowfully.

I picked up Shimone' lifeless body, cradling it in my arms and said miserably "She's right Zelen, killing that Rattata wouldn't have bought her back".

Cameron looked at me in utter shock and then stammered out "Chase.. bro.. I'm.. I'm truly sorry man". I pretended not to hear him as I closed Shimone's eyes.

"Let's just finish searching for Team Plasma and get out of here." I told him tonelessly and then started moving. As I was walking I felt something land on my head. I looked up and saw a Zubat on atop my head.

"I'm sorry for your loss lad but unfortunately the Rattata here are very territorial." It told me.

"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" I muttered. If the Zubat was surprised I could understand it, it didn't show it and then responded

"No lad but it's to help you understand that your Patrat's death wasn't your fault". I grabbed a Pokéball and tapped it against the Zubat to get it to shut up. I was rather surprised when I heard the ball click signifying a successful capture. All of a sudden I heard the sound of laughter as well a voice calling out "Kid you're an idiot don't ya know you shouldn't bring Patrat down here. I'm not surprised it ended up getting killed'.I looked in the direction the laughter and voice had come from and saw two members of Team Plasma standing there.

Cameron, who had caught up with me, heard them and growled in anger. "Pyrosha, Ruesphine get em," Cameron commanded through clenched teeth.

"Oh does somebody wanna battle. Bring it brat." One of the Plasma grunts asked in a mocking tone. But before they could send out their Pokemon Cameron's knocked them out.

"That should teach you you bastards," Cameron spat at the unconscious grunts.

"Do you think there are any more down here?" I wondered aloud.

"Nope. I think those two unconscious grunts are the only ones who were ever down here," a male voice called out. We turned around and saw a man walking towards us. "I'm Burgh, Castelia's Gym Leader," the man said introducing himself to us then added, "you must be Chase and his friend. Miss Venenum told me about you when she warned me that Team Plasma might be here".

"These two are the only ones we have encountered," Cameron told him.

"Why are they unconscious?" Burgh asked us. But before either of us could answer he spotted Shimone's body in my arms and went "Oh. I see. Very well". I was glad Burgh didn't try to say sorry for your loss or something like that.

Cameron turned to me and said, "Chase now that we've dealt with Team Plasma I'm gonna head back to Virbank and get my second badge," he then handed me a disc then continued, "here bro its HM04 Strength. It should help in your journey ahead and bro if you ever needa talk just call me". I nodded but didn't answer and Cameron headed off.

Once Cameron had I turned to leave when Burgh said "Chase come with me I know somewhere you can your Patrat". He then walked off and after a moment's deliberation I followed him. 10 minutes later we exited the sewers and arrived in a beautiful garden. "This is Castelia Gardens, not many people know of its existence so your Patrat's grave won't be disturbed," Burgh told me.

"Thank you Burgh…" I started to say.

"But you'd like me to leave I take it?" Burgh asked with a hint of a smile and I nodded in responded. "Very well and Chase I will await your challenge when you feel up too it," he told me then headed off. I then let out all my Pokemon bar the Zubat and the five of us dug a grave and created a gravestone for Shimone and buried her. We then stood around the grave for what felt like ages. I tried to say a farewell to Shimone but the words kept sticking in my throat so I decided to leave with my Pokemon following suit. Just before I re-entered the sewers a Bunneary ran up to me and went "Please bring me with you. I saw what you did for that Patrat and I wish to be with a trainer that is as kind and caring as you". I just looked at the Bunneary in surprise wondering why it would want to come along with me after seeing me bury Shimone. I then thought about the Bunneary's request before responding "Are you sure? That could be you I bury next time".

The Bunneary nodded and answered "I'm sure. Also my name's Lillian". I nodded, tapped a Pokeball against her and it clicked signifying the capture was successful. I returned my remaining Pokemon and let out the Zubat.

"Do you wish to talk with me lad?" the Zubat asked.

I nodded then said "I have two questions. First do you have a name and second can you guide me through the sewers back to Castelia City".

"My name is Zerry lad and I can certainly do that. Also might you permit me a question of my own lad?" Zerry responded. I nodded and Zerry said

"Will you be releasing me as soon as you reach the city or will I continue on with you?".

I thought about the question for the moment before answering "You can come with me if that is what you choose and the name is Chase," I told him.

"Very well Chase. I will continue to travel with you now let us be off," Zerry told me. I then took one last look at Shimone's grave before re-entering the sewers with Zerry.

A/N

This was a hard chapter for me to write. This was my first death of the run. I lost Shimone while fighting against two Rattata. Zelen actually evolved in The Battle Company. And Lisbeth evolved in the Castelia Sewers. The place where I captured Buneary is accessible through the sewers and is called Castelia Gardens.
