Author's Notes

As of this chapter this story is now the longest story I have published both in words and chapters :)

Last chapter we saw Chase have go into a bit of shock over Shimone's death as well as meeting a strange scientest and then finally entering the Castelia Gym. Now we will see how well his training paid off.

I walked in through the gym doors was surprised by the interior of the gym. It was a mass of strange cocoon like things and tubes. We saw Burgh standing in the in front of one them. "Hey Chase over here," he called out when he spotted me and the three of us walked over to him. "How you are feeling Chase?" He asked me concern in his voice.

"I'm doing ok, but I am ready to take you on and beat you," I answered him with a smile.

"That's fantastic to hear. Now follow to me to our battlefield, something tells me battling you will give me quite the inspiration for my paintings," Burgh said before turning and heading to the back of the gym with us following behind. Once we walked into the back of the gym Burgh and I made our way to the opposite ends of the field. "Alright Chase are you ready?" Burgh asked me.

"Bring it Burgh, that badge is mine," I told him.

"If you can beat me it is," he told me before sending out his first Pokémon. Out of his Pokéball came a Swadloon.

"Alright Lisbeth you're up," I called out before throwing out Lisbeth's Pokéball.

"String shot Swadloon," Burgh commanded and his Swadloon spat a string at Lisbeth.

"Dodge it," I called out, knowing if that hit Lisbeth's speed would be lowered making it harder for her to dodge and evade Burgh's faster Pokémon. Lisbeth then flew up higher successfully dodging it. "Now attack with Air Cutter," I commanded. Lisbeth's wings glowed blue and she flapped them at Swadloon send and X shape at Swadloon knocking it out instantly. I was surprised by that as I knew despite the fact Swadloon was Grass/Bug Air Cutter shouldn't have been a one hit ko then I remembered Lisbeth's ability was Superluck which increased the chance of a critical hit and that must have been why the attack was so strong. "

"Impressive, it has been a while since someone knocked out one of my team with a single blow. You must have been training hard," Burgh told me as he recalled his fainted Swadloon.

"I have been yeah but I think luck had a hand in that," I told him.

"That may be true. Now let us see how you handle my next Pokémon," Burgh told me as he threw out his second Pokéball. Out of the Pokéball came his Dwebble.

"Lisbeth come back for now," I said as I recalled Lisbeth back to her Pokéball before throwing out my second Pokémon. "Khaeg you're up," I called as Khaeg appeared out of the Pokéball. "Khaeg use Magnet Bomb," I commanded. Khaeg's magnets started to glow a light blue before firing a silver orb at Dwebble.

"Dwebble dodge it and use Smack Down," Burgh commanded. Dwebble complied and scurried away the silver orb missing and fired a golden orb from its mouth. Shortly after Dwebble fired its attack the silver orb came back around and slammed into Dwebble at the same time its attack hit Khaeg. Dwebble's attack barely did any damage to Khaeg but Khaegs attack did a fair amount damage to Dwebble.

"Khaeg use Magnet bomb one more time and finish that Dwebble off," I commanded.

"You got it Chase," Khaeg responded as he prepared his attack.

"Dwebble try and dodge that attack," Burgh commanded a hint of desperation in his voice. I let out a small grin as Khaeg fired his attack as Dwebble scurried away hoping to not get hit but it's attempts were futile as Khaeg's attack just followed it and slammed into hard knocking it out. Burgh recalled Dwebble then threw out his next Pokéball from which his Levanny appeared. "This is my final Pokémon Chase. If you can defeat her you will win the Insect Badge".

I recalled Khaeg and then said with a grin as I sent out Lisbeth "That badge will be mine Burgh so prepare to lose".

"Leavanny use Cut," Burghed ordered. Leavanny's arm glowed white and she leapt at Lizbeth

"Air Cutter," I countered. Lisbeth's wings glowed blue and she prepared to attack but before she could she was hit by Leavanny. "No," I cried out as I saw that the attack did a lot of damage and sent Lisbeth hurtling down to the ground. Lizbeth went flying towards the ground and I feared the worst but she managed to recover before she hit the ground. I breathed off a sigh of relief as she fire off her attack seriously damaging Leavanny. Leavanny pulled a Sitrus berry from the leaf on her head and ate it restoring her health. "Lisbeth I'm switching you out," I told her as I pointed her Pokéball at her.

"No let me keep fighting I can beat her," Lizbeth told me.

I shook my head and responded "You're too badly hurt and she's faster than you. I don't want to risk losing you like Shimone'.

Lisbeth realising why I was recalling her, flew off the field and landed next to me and said, "Very well Chase but I'm watching the rest of the battle from outside my Pokéball".

I let out a small laugh and nodded "Alright fine," I then sent out Khaeg and said "Khaeg finish this and get us that badge".

"That badge is as good as ours," Khaeg told me.

I grinned please with his answer then thought of how to cripple Leavanny's speed. The answer came too me and I yelled "Khaeg Thunderwave". "Khaeg buzzed in acknowledgement and his magnets started giving off blue sparks.

"Leavanny Razor Leaf," Burgh commanded. Leavanny then caused a barrage of leaves to go flying at Khaeg. Khaeg was unfazed by the attack as it did little damage to him. He then fired light blue sparks at Leavanny hitting her. The sparks stuck to Leavanny and arced around her body indicating she was paralysed.

I grinned and then yelled "Khaeg finish this with a Sonic Boom barrage".

"With pleasure," Khaeg buzzed then spun around rapidly firing of 7 shockwaves at Leavanny.

"Dodge them Leavanny," Burgh called out. Leavanny managed to successful dodge 5 of the shockwaves but the last two slammed right into her causing her to collapse to the ground. Burgh recalled Leavanny then looked at me and said with a smile "Well done Chase, that was a spending battle". He then walked towards me pulling two objects out of his pocket. He handed them to me and said "Here is the Insect Badge as well as TM76 Struggle Bug".

I took them and said "Thanks Burgh," I then turned to Lisbeth and Khaeg and told them with pride in my voice, "you guys were amazing,". I then recalled the two of them and then made my way to the Pokémon centre. Bianca and Roxie gave Burgh hurried goodbyes and then hurried after me. As we walked to the Pokémon Centre Bianca said "You have really improved Chase".

"You really think so?" I asked her.

"Yeah you've grown not just in battle skill but also in confidence," she told me with a smile

"Really?" I asked a slight blush on my face. Bianca just nodded. I then looked at Roxie and noticed her giving me a strange loo. "What?" I asked her curiously.

"During you're battle with Burgh it looked you were able to actually understand your Pokémon," Roxie told me but before I could answered she continued, "and now that I think about it after our battle the way you answered your Pokémon after they went off it you it was like you knew exactly what they said".

"Yeah, I can understand most Pokémon not just my own," I admitted.

"That's… pretty cool, " Roxie told me with an impressed look on her face.

"That's just like…" Bianca started to started to before her Xtransciever started ringing. "Sorry have to answer this I'll see you guys at the PokéCentre," she told us before answering and walking off.

"Have you always had the ability to understand Pokémon or…?" Roxie asked me curiously.

I thought for a moment then answered "No, I've only been able to for the last coupla years".

"Do you know what caused this ability to appear?"

"I have no idea that's something that I've always wondered".

"Oh ok. Still cool though," Roxie told me. We then made our way back to the Pokémon Centre in a comfortable silence.

A/N

So Chase acquires his third badge and we learn a little more about his ability to talk to Pokemon. The in game battle with Burgh went slightly differently but overall was the same, I just tweaked a couple of things to better suit the story.
