It was Ned again which had Kayo laugh when Virgil told her before assuring him that if they met up with him again she would kill him herself. This time the unfortunate man had been trapped in an underwater crawler designed to depollute the ocean, a fire had broken out on board, not by his doing, and Gordon had gone down to rescue him with Virgil's help, it had been successful of course but now the government was involved in the company Hydrexla's involvement which had been taken over by The Hood, he was long gone leaving Penelope and her father to sort out the mess.
"How is the trial going Penelope?" Gordon asked as he lounged back on the sofa.
"Not that well I'm afraid, Hector Ambrose is desperately trying to plead guilty as The Hood attacked him, but the court isn't believing him."
"Do you want us to come down?" Virgil looked over to the chute.
"No, I don't want you getting involved in this, you rescued Ned and that was your job. This is mine."
Virgil smirked, "FAB. Do give us a call if the situation changes."
"I will Virgil, honestly you have your duties to worry about, I'm trained in this sort of thing, besides, my father is inside to help me."
Gordon nodded, "be careful."
"I will. Oh, better go. Have a good day."
Gordon grinned as she turned off the hologram and Virgil laughed, "what?"
"I didn't realise you liked her that much?"
"I, uh don't."
"I can see it on your face, you're mad about her."
"Maybe I am, what's it to you?"
Virgil held his hands up, "ok easy, I'm not going anywhere with this, I just think you're not being subtle enough, you're being very obvious."
Gordon sighed, "I'm constantly trying to impress her, I can't help it."
"Well accusing her of not being able to handle bad guys probably wasn't a good idea earlier. I did tell you that she would understand your jokes if you made them actual jokes and not just pompous comments."
"I was just trying to humour her, I didn't want her to get hurt."
"She was in an armoured car, I think she was fine don't you?"
Gordon buried his hands in his face, "urgh. Yes. Damn, she must think I'm an idiot."
"Nah we all think that," Virgil grinned, "just messing with ya. I'm sure she doesn't. Here's a suggestion, ask John to keep an eye on the trial for you and call you when it's over, then you can talk to Penny alone, I won't disturb you I promise."
"Really?"
"Gordon, we're not kids, I'm not interested in what you say to her."
"Thanks, big guy."
Virgil rolled his eyes, "I'm going to find Scott, I feel the need to surf."
"Without me?"
"Make your mind up, Penny or us?" Virgil waved as he walked out of the room.
Gordon was napping when he heard his comms beep alerting him to a call, he rolled over and turned on his hologram, "ah, Penny!"
"I've caught you at a bad time?" Penelope smirked eyeing his bare chest.
"No no, I was just having a nap," Gordon pulled a top on.
"You don't have to cover up."
"Just being a gentleman. Hey about earlier when I warned you about liaising with criminals, I'm sorry if it came across as patronising."
Penelope laughed, "I was only messing with you, you know it's my job."
"Messing with me, or criminals?"
"What do you think? Anyway, I'm not offended by it at all, we got you back without you even hearing me."
"Why, what did you say?"
"Parker accused us of having the easy job, something you've remarked on."
Gordon blushed, "I didn't mean that either."
"Forget it. How was the mission anyway?"
"Routine, and we got Ned a desk job with the GDF, he should be fine there."
"You think so? Maybe I'll pop in some time this week and see how he's doing. For now, I have to get to Manchester, I'm doing a conference."
"FAB, good to hear from you."
"And you, have a good evening or whatever time it is there?"
Gordon laughed, "its mid-afternoon."
"Then have a good afternoon," she smiled at him before hanging up the call and Gordon lay back on his bed beaming.
