Virgil tapped Thunderbird 2's wheel absentmindedly as he flew home, the day he had met Cass was a day he wouldn't forget and now all he wanted to do was to remove it from his mind after she had inadvertently mentioned her children to him, that immediately stopped any chance of seeing each other in the future for anything more than a catch up. Heck, she wasn't interested in him anyway, he was so much younger than her he just had to be, by a good ten years at the most, but she had been so lovely to him and they worked so well together on missions. With a frustrated sigh he hit the wheel and stared up at the cockpit ceiling, this had been the one chance to get to know her without Alan around to bother him and throw his confidence off, but instead he had ruined it by being too obvious that he wanted to impress her, he shook his head and a call interrupted his thoughts.

"Virgil, how did it go?"

"Scott, everything was fine," Virgil shrugged.

"Where's your torch?"

"I, uh gave it to Cass McCready."

"You what?"

"It was a passing comment she made, and well I said I would get Brains to make some up for the team..."

"If dad knew you were giving away technology he would ground you."

"He's not here is he!" Virgil snapped, "I was just being kind."

Scott rolled his eyes, "a woman was involved then?"

"So what?"

"Virgil, you can do whatever you like but you shouldn't give away equipment, not for banter."

"She won't give it to anyone, and she might find it useful on her missions."

"What's your ETA?"

"Moved on already huh? About an hour, I'll try to make it faster."

"FAB."

"I'll see you at home," Virgil answered crossly and hung up the call with his brother as he pushed Thunderbird 2 to her absolute limit.

Kayo leant against the wall under Scott's lamps, a fixed look off disappointment on her face as Scott turned around, "smooth."

"What?"

"You've really upset him, he clearly liked that fire chief and he's had his heart broken, not in the past but today."

"How am I supposed to know that?"

"You just should. Let me talk to him when he gets back because I very much doubt he'll want to see you," Kayo barged past her boyfriend leaving him stunned as she left the room.

An hour later Thunderbird 2 entered the hangar and Virgil walked out wearily, he went to his room and got changed into his casuals, he walked out onto his balcony and heard a knock behind him, he called out and the door opened.

"It's me."

"Hi, Kayo."

"Are you ok?"

"As ok as I usually am."

"No, you're usually happier than this, what happened?"

Virgil leant forward against the railing with a sigh, "I thought I had found someone."

"Cass huh?"

"Yeah," Virgil looked out at the ocean, "she has kids."

"Awh Virg, I'm sorry."

"And your boyfriend didn't help either."

"He's your brother first, and I'm not pleased with him."

"Well, it wasn't meant to be. I always try too hard."

Kayo wrapped her arm around his shoulders sympathetically, "maybe she wasn't the one, and she's losing someone really special."

"She's already got someone special hence the kids," Virgil muttered with slight frustration creeping into his voice, "I know you're trying to make me feel better Kayo, but I need some time alone."

"Are you sure?"

Virgil nodded as he looked out at the water again, "yes please."

"Ok, if you're sure," Kayo sighed and walked back through her brother's room taking in all of his possessions with a smile as she left him alone, no sooner had she closed the door she heard soft sobs behind her, she took off at a run and found Gordon who was beaming, "what's got you shining?"

"I've just been talking to Penelope, she says she was on a mission today. I just wanted to make sure she was ok, and vice versa," he smirked as he looked down at his crutches, "you look the opposite, what's wrong?"

"Virgil is going through a breakup."

"I'll go and talk to him, I have some experience. Why isn't Scott in there?"

"Because Virgil doesn't want to see him right now, they had a falling out in Thunderbird 2."

"Ok tell me later, Virgil first," he hopped down the corridor and opened Virgil's door not bothering to knock, his eyes wandered to the curled up figure lying on the bed shaking like a small earthquake, "Virgie?"

"Gordo."

"Kayo told me you were going through a rough patch?"

Virgil sniffed, "Cass, has a boyfriend or possibly even a husband. I'm so stupid."

Scott skidded into the doorway, "Virgil, I'm so sorry little brother."

"Urgh, can't you give us like two minutes without being a smother hen?" Gordon growled.

Virgil looked up tearfully at Scott and his brother held him in his arms almost before Gordon had even finished his sentence, "this always happens to me."

Scott stroked Virgil's hair, "it's not you, it's called life. You start liking someone and they tell you they've got a boyfriend or something, but they've kept it to themselves for their own reasons. It can't be helped."

Virgil nodded tearfully as he stared at his hands in his lap now that he was sitting up, "I'm sure she was single the last time I saw her, she flirted with me."

"Workplace banter Virg," Gordon said sorrowfully, "we used to do it in the academy, the girls and the boys, everyone. You just fooled around until someone got serious and they would say they had someone at home etc. It got annoying very quickly."

"What was the mission anyway?" Scott asked.

"Stuck in a bank vault," Virgil rubbed his eyes on his sleeve.

"Cozy," Gordon sighed, "perfect place."

"Stop it," Scott scolded.

"And I had to detonate a bomb, safely. I was useless though, I had to keep asking Parker what to do."

"We're not bomb experts Virgil, at least you saved someone."

"Yeah. I don't know what she was doing there so early, the streets were deserted."

Scott squeezed Virgil's shoulder, "put it behind you, as long as the mission was successful who cares what happened on it."

"It was a car chase predominately, I was just there for good timing. That and the jaws failed me."

"Failed you?"

"They got trapped when the ceiling fell on us."

Only then did Scott notice a huge bruise on Virgil's arm, "Virgil?! For God's sake, look at your arm"

"It's fine."

"No, it is not fine," Scott rolled Virgil's sleeve up, "just a bruise. Does anything else hurt?"

Virgil sighed, "my ankle."

Scott nodded, "so the ceiling fell on you and you didn't think to tell us?"

"Obviously."

"You're an idiot," Scott chuckled, "boots off. Can you move it?"

"Yeah, but it does hurt. I thought my uniform would protect it."

"They're not bulletproof Virgil, it's only padding," Scott ran his finger along the ankle bone, "you're alright it's just another bruise."

Virgil smiled sheepishly, "sorry."

"I think we're all in need of a drink or something, and you need some sunshine," Scott helped Virgil to his feet, "we'll meet you in the lounge, come on Gordon."

Virgil smiled as his brothers left his room and he slipped on a pair of beach sandals deciding to give his ankle a rest from boots before walking up to the main room of the house, he smiled at the two in there playing pool and stretched out on the sofa.

"How is the foot?" Scott asked.

"Painful but I'll live."

"I would've thought the first thing you'd try to do is play the piano?" Gordon shot a ball down one of the holes and lined up his next shot.

"In a minute," he shut his eyes when his phone suddenly beeped, "huh?"

"Sounds like a text."

Virgil got it out and read a message from Cass, "it's Cass, she says, 'the voice enhancer is a great way to call the kids, thanks so much, although my,'" he sighed, "'husband says he could beat the echo.'"

"Awh man, I'm sorry bro," Gordon leant on his cue, "way to lay it on."

"I'm sure she's not doing it deliberately, everyone we save tries to be our friend in some way," Scott smiled sympathetically as Virgil put his phone away, "and she was probably trying to impress you being the head fire chief, hence the flirting."

Virgil nodded glumly, "maybe."

"Cheer up big guy, you'll find someone, and you'll never want to let her go when you do," Gordon grinned, "it might not even be someone you rescue."

"Then how am I supposed to meet someone?"

Scott facepalmed, "you go out there bro and have a good time, you're not restricted to this island, you're 24 and free to do what you want. Did you use that vacation time?"

"No, we had too many rescues."

"There you go then, use that for a good cause and forget about Cass, you're still friends right?"

"I guess so."

"Then no-one needs to be hurt, come and help me beat Gordon."

"Oh come on!"

Virgil limped over and grabbed a cue off the wall before joining his brother's at the table, "thanks, guys."
