Chapter 35: The Year Can End

[Planet Spark, Fourth Dimension]

T.M.S. sighed as he watched Katsumi read through the medical file Israphille had given her, the file containing Dymmi's medical history, as Katsumi's face became paler and paler, her eyes widening further and further in shock and horror, as T.M.S. buried his face in his hands, before she finally said "...T.M.S.?"

"Yes, Katsumi?", looking up slightly, seeing her still staring at the file, as she asked "...how many times did Dymmi's heart stop during the operation you had to perform on her, to implant that device?", making him sigh, as he suddenly felt much, MUCH older than he already was, and he said, "In total? 48 times, most of it due to the device shocking her as we tried to sync it up with the rest of her body. She also almost died as we were implanting the device, due to blood loss, requiring Dimentio to have to come in and give his blood during the operation. It was... a very stressful operation. The most stressful one I ever had to do. Even the ones on Earth-365, the one where we lived and became heroes in... the worst one I had to do on that Earth was when I had to pull around 68 glass pieces out of someone's leg, 26 shards of shrapnel out of their head, and pull the remnants of a detonated nuclear reactor core out of their chest, and even then, it was less heartbreaking and stressful than the one I had to do to Dymmi."

When he finished, he noticed that she was currently bent over, puking in a nearby trash can, before he sighed again, frowning regretfully, but before he could say anything else, one of the nurses came up, and said "Excuse me, Doctor Mecha? Councilwoman Katsumi? Dymmi has been requesting for you two for the past few minutes. She says she has something she wishes to give to her "Auntie Katsumi"."

Katsumi nodded, wiping the vomit from her mouth into the trash can, as she and T.M.S. followed the nurse to Dymmi's room, opening it up to reveal Dymmi, her left arm crackling with energy from the All For One Quirk, as one of the other nurses injected something into her arm, saying "I still don't understand why you refuse to have the Quirk removed from you while you're here. It isn't a good idea.", getting no response from Dymmi, as she looked to the nurse who entered, Katsumi and T.M.S. following said nurse, smiling slightly as she said, "Auntie Katsumi, Uncle T.M.S., thank you for coming over."

Katsumi, however, had a pale, somber expression on her face, as she asked, "What do you need, Dymmi?", as the nurses left the room, sensing that this would most likely be a personal discussion for them, as Dymmi said "Not much, currently. But... I do have something I'd like to give you."

Seeing Katsumi's confused expression, the AFO-Wielding Jester smiled, before she suddenly moved her jaw around, a sickening, chilling cracking sound being heard, like a bone or a tooth breaking off of someone, before Dymmi aimed her head towards her bed, and, collecting whatever she just broke out of her mouth, spat out a glob of blood, staining the white medical bed red, at the end of it... and a white-painted capsule, with mottled specks of blood on it. The kind that Capsule Corp. makes.

Katsumi slowly picked the capsule up, wiping the blood off, as Dymmi said "An old trick Uncle Dimensio taught me. Similar to the old "Cyanide Tooth" spy trick, but with a white capsule. That capsule... holds my gift to you. A weapon, that I know you'll use with deadly precision and power, Auntie Katsumi. Use it well.", as she wiped the blood off of her lips, before going silent, her eyes closing...

T.M.S., out of concern of how quickly she fell asleep, checked her vitals, only to let out a sigh of relief and say "The morphine knocked her out. She knew she'd only have enough time to give that capsule to you before the morphine made her unconscious. Smart.", before Katsumi asked "But, what is so important that she'd give it to me now, of all times?"

T.M.S. merely shrugged and said "I have no idea. That being said... given it's a weapon, I'd recommend heading back to the Order's H.Q., to test it out. I imagine testing it out in a hospital will not be a very good idea.", making her snort in agreement, rolling her eyes, as she followed him out, the nurses soon coming back in, and cleaning the blood up...

O=2020=O

Upon returning to the Order H.Q., she excused herself from the other Councilmembers, as Israphille, with zero shame on his face, kissed her on the cheek as she went by, with her returning it, as she went into the H.Q.'s armory and testing area, the capsule in hand... before she opened the capsule. Her eyes went wide with shock, as a shockwave pulsed out of the blade, the capsule disappearing, as a huge, bright, ruby red blade appeared, electricity and energy crackling around it, it's ashen black hilt cool and comfortable, contrasting with the hot, electrified blade, the sword being large, but surprisingly light, despite it's size. Seeing a training dummy in front of her, she shook of her shock for the moment, steeling her gaze, before she grabbed the hilt with her other hand... and swung once.

Immediately, the dummy was split in half... and a massive, gaping gash appeared in the reinforced, Vibranium-Adamantium and Uru metal-mixed wall, behind said dummy. The blade crackled with energy, as if eager to be used again, as if it was... alive.

Katsumi, however, didn't notice this, as she stared in awe and disbelief at the power her new weapon held, leaving the massive gash in the wall... which was still a few feet away from her and the dummy. She then looked down at the blade, and asked to herself "...what are you?"

...only for her to then notice a word, written into the hilt of the sword. Holding it up closer to her, she read out it's name...

"...Murasama. The Blade of Calamitas."

Katsumi wondered what in the hell did Dymmi did to get that sword for her.

[The Creek, Herkleston, Outer Towns, CN-Zen Kuro]

Connie leaned on her chair a bit as she and Steven in the midst of a video call. She had taken to staying in a capsule home within the Creek not too far from Sector CH's base.

"So, the Squadron's really over." Steven remarked as she nodded. "Honestly, this was going to happen. I just think it would have been one of the Gems calling out Ryker for keeping Pink around."

"No, it seems Peridot is going to be our President with Lapis as Vice. Ryker took it a bit hard to put away from the Squadron flag, but he knew it was over." Connie affirmed.

"You think he'll form a new group?" Steven asked.

"If he does, I'll pass on joining up. I kind of like being independent…and I'm waiting for you to come back to me." Connie said kindly.

"I know. By the way, how's your mother?" Steven asked.

"She called me an hour ago to say she's on her way back. Apparently, she's not agreeing to renew her contract with her boss because one of his employees gave a co-worker she worked with a broken arm in some kind of roid rage." Connie mused before seeing an incoming call from Ryker. "I have to go. Another call on the line. Love you."

"Love you too." Steven said before hanging up.

She took up Ryker's call and noticed Ryker looked peaceful and calm.

"Connie, after much thought, I've settled on starting a new team. The Jade Company." Ryker affirmed. "I just wanted to let you know as I have a feeling you're going to pass on joining up."

"New year, new changes. High time, Steven and I struck out on our own. You know we'll come if you need our help, but Steven and I have to do it being independent." Connie remarked. "I wish you the best."

"I wish you the same. You and Steven make a life for yourself." Ryker said warmly before hanging up.

Connie looks to an old photo of what was the Crystal Squadron in the beginning before the fall of their old planet…before Sadie was ousted.

"To think it's about to be three years…" She thought before her glance looked to a more recent photo for her and Sector CH. "Never thought I'm be a sensei."

She took up that photo looking with a little grin.

[Neo Bayview]

Ryker was rather nervous in coming over to Saki's home, but he had hope that they would listen to his request. She spotted the pair working on their cars, notably Saki had a new car. A fancy one, a Lamborghini Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster painted a cold Byzantium purple with green highlights.

"Christmas certainly came for you." Ryker said walking up.

"I rather have my daughter be home for the holidays." Saki mused.

"I feel you. I wanted to drop by with a propostiton. With the Crystal Squadron dissolved and I was forming a new group. I wanted to offer a merger of the groups." Ryker said as the couple paused their work.

"A merger? What brought this on?" Mandy asked.

"Because of one simple reason, both our groups lost plenty of people. Plus, there's strength in numbers. I could use all the help I could gather to defend this universe. It's all I got left…and it's you all got left. We both were are at that session and us left behind have to stick together." Ryker said quietly.

"I see. So, your merry band is all broken up." Saki said slamming the hood of his car shut.

"Yeah. Aiko's up and left the universe. Apparently, she connected with a counterpart of Kyu and got a job working under her. Unlike Greg, she is keeping contact with us. Priyanka's coming back. Turns out that boss she worked for…freaking Gendo Ikari of all people." Ryker said with a laugh. "You know, the one tied with Desmond."

"We know of that asshole. Gendo…not Desmond." Saki said.

"Well, get this. Abby, that piece of shit from Last of Us 2, had a roid rage and broke some kid's arm. This kid happens to be employed to Gendo similarly to Priyanka. Priyanka refused to renew the contract and left with the kid. Apparently some kind of weaponsmith." Ryker said as Saki asked if he got reported. "Oh yeah. Gendo had give her and him severance pay. And it make headlines on WNN."

That got Saki and Mandy laughing.

"What about Lars, Ashi, and the Off-Colors?" Saki asked.

"All I know is that they left the universe…seemingly for good." Ryker bemused. "I had a feeling he wanted to go independent too. Plus, I'm pretty sure the Off-Colors have a grudge against Pink. So…right now, I'm down to the core mates and you."

"We could always use more allies and resources. Frankly, having a tenth rank among us would help. Besides, you saved me from having to rely on our neighbors." Saki said glaring at the empty house next door.

The Tadashi family was out at California on holiday with the family. Saki wished they'd just stay in Cali.

"Then welcome to the Jade Company. We can discuss details later on. We have a holiday to celebrate…and a year to watch end." Ryker said before walking away. "And I hope Priyanka help speed Maylene's journey back home to you. And maybe you could join my family for my New Year's Party."

Given that Gwen and Kevin were with family for the holiday and so was Frankie and her kids, Saki and Mandy gratefully accepted.

[The Retro Revival, Orchid Bay, Downtown, The Core]

Fenix was in the midst of dealing with the reunification of family. His siblings and his half-brother came to visit. It was awkward to put up with especially given that Matias gave off snakelike vibes that unnevered. Matias and Fenix simply did not exactly trust the other, but there willing to put it aside for an alliance. Everyone else was getting along but the two men were glaring daggers.

"So, brother? What's your plans given that you killed the Big Bitch?" Fenix asked. "And some of my siblings?"

"Well, I do have the makings of a crime family on my hands. Honestly, I don't really know. I suppose I'll figure it out…at least sell off the DNA and corpses. I don't see myself as a spacefaring pirate. I'd much rather start a business…always wanted to start up something like my own arena." Matias said as Fenix warmed up.

"Like a place to hold martial art tournaments?" Fenix asked. "That's actually pretty cool. Make it your own island, make a brand, and you all need a world to place it in."

"It's so good to see you two getting along." Pudding said kissing her husband's and brother's cheeks.

"For now. We did only agree to stay before the New Year. By the way, what drove you to date Cree of all people?" Matias asked.

"I could ask the same about Pudding." Fenix said getting a punch to the shoulder from Pudding. "Ok, I deserve that."

(A/N: The last chapter for 2020, and I feel pleased with it even if it short. Ryker has lost a lot this year surprisingly, but…2021 is going to bring new challenges. The Fusion Cult is still out there among other threats. The group merging will be an attempt to streamline the cast and plot. Considering Lars, Aiko (she'll be showing up in a new series as a side character and cheeky reference), Greg, and others are leaving the Squad, I may as well sink it to start fresh. Goodbye Squadron, and hello Jade Company.)

Plans for 2021 – Ok, let's clear things up. The Fusion Cult is still going to be the main antagonists for FusionFall Infinite going into Season 5. I will have to get off my butt and give another chapter to The Geist Within to get Rebecca into play. (If the Geist Chapter doesn't come today, it'll come early Jan 2021.). As for Matias, I do plan for him and the group he leads to appear in another series.

And as for Maylene and Steven? I'm going on the assumption that when DSX64215 finishes that arc of his, it'd be before 2021 storywise. So, they'll return to the fold soon enough.
