Chapter 15 X A Love from the Past
"Okay, that's all for today's meeting." Misaki announced. Sighs of relieves went around the room of the Student Council. The morning meeting was over.
"Ah, chotto." Misaki shot up as she just realized something. "We're getting a new history teacher today, so be sure to offer your assistance. It's his first day after all."
The group looked at each other confused. "A new teacher?"
"Isn't History our first class today?" Kagome wondered out loud, looking at Misaki. The brunette nodded as smirk came on her face.
"Let's show him the beauty of Sekai High!"
"A new teacher, huh…" Kagome mused to herself as she walked through the empty hallway to her class.
It was still early and most of the students haven't even arrived, except for those with club activities.
'It's odd to have a new teacher at this time of the year.' Her feet halted, eyes shifting to the distance. 'Autumn…' She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"Ara," a sudden voice came from behind her. "Such a coincident, Vice."
Kagome snapped around. "Takumi." In the back of her head the memories from last week came back, and made her cheeks flush red. "Are you better now?" She quickly asked, turning her head away from the man.
"Thanks to you." A smirk came on his face as he came closer. "That's great." Kagome tried to walk past him, but once again she found herself captive between the wall and his arms.
"Takumi…?"
He remained still for a bit, his emerald eyes fixated on her, until he pulled back. His hand lightly patting Kagome's head before departing to his own classroom.
"What was that all about?" the girl wondered out loud, left without any answers to her friend's strange behavior.
"Okaa-san!"
Kagome turned her head and saw Kanrei approaching her. She checked her watch before looking outside, the students pouring through the gate and the Public Morals committee ready to check for uniforms violations. "Kanrei-kun, ohayo."
Kagome noticed that the young youkai lord seemed annoyed, his brown illusion eyes focused on something behind her. "It still pisses me off…"
He suddenly said. Kagome tilted her head at his statement. "The fact that you and that cursed bastard are together… but if he makes you happy, Okaa-san, then I'm willing to accept his presence. More importantly, Otou-sama-"
"What?!"
A moment of silence passed as the two relatives looked at each other with confusion. "What did you say about me and Takumi?" Kagome repeated her question.
"You and Takumi… relationship… boyfriend and girlfriend… couple…?"
The miko placed her palm on her forehead with a sigh. "Where in the world did you hear that?"
"Souta-sama…"
"I'm gonna kill that brat…"
*Chime*
"Classes are about to start." Kagome noted, she turned back to Kanrei. "Go to your classroom, we'll talk later tonight at dinner." She bid him goodbye and went to her own classroom.
"But… Otou-sama said…"
His words fell on deaf ears as Kagome had already disappeared. Well, she would find out sooner or later.
It was silent in the classroom. Homeroom had just ended and now the students were eagerly waiting for their new History teacher.
"Do you think it's a girl or dude?"
"If it's a woman I hope she got some big boobs!"
"It would be awesome if was a handsome man."
"I heard that's he's a famous professor in America!"
The rumors continued to go around the room. Kagome could only sigh at the excited teenagers, her blue eyes wandered outside. Whoever the teacher may be, it had nothing to do with her.
She heard the door slide open, footsteps could be heard entering, as gasps filled the room.
"My name is Kouga Ookami."
Eyes perked up and snapped to the voice. Tears gathered as she took a good look at her modernized friend, whom she hadn't seen for so long.
"Hope we get along." The male said with a toothy smirk.
"Kouga-kun…" Her voice whispered softly. She didn't she had stood up from her seat, and everyone's attention was on her. "Ah, gomennasai." She quickly bowed and took her seat again.
"Let's safe the questions for after the lesson, Higurashi-san."
Two colors of sapphire clashed with a hidden meaning. "Of course, sensei."
"I did not expect to see you here…" Kagome began, the class was empty whilst Kagome stayed under the guise of having some questions.
"Neither did I." The demon slowly walked over to her and leaned on the table in front of her. Kagome looked up, her breath stuck in her throat as she saw the dark blue eyes upon her.
"It took me awhile to find you." He started softly. "Hakkaku and Ginta were very vague about your hideouts and acquaintances…"
"Kouga-kun…" Kagome tried to interrupt, but the man placed his finger softly on her lips. "I'm serious, Kagome. From the moment I claimed you as mine I meant it."
The miko slapped the hand away from her face and stood up. "Kouga-kun! I don't belong to anyone!" She said sharp. "Besides aren't you suppose to wed Ayame?"
"The times have changed, Kagome." Kouga sighed, his eyes wandering to the window, seeing humans run around for their PE lesson. "Ayame has been married to someone else for the past two centuries."
"I see…" The girl turned her eyes to the outside as well. "Kagome." Kouga's voice made her face him as they stood in silence.
"I love you! I've come here to my you my woman once again, this time there is no mutt to stop me! However I will court you like a ningen and wait until you fall for me."
His declaration placed a blush on her face.
"I…"
"This is not how I imagined our Mountain Classes." Kagome sweat-dropped as she looked around, seeing her classmates cleaning the traditional inn.
"Apparently it's Seika's tradition… Fooling the Juniors." Misaki came to stand next to her with a sigh. Both were dressed in simple red hakama.
"I don't know when it started, but an upperclassman let off some stress from the week of boredom by getting a kouhai's hope up." The female president continued. "The people that got fooled took it out on more people, amnd this is how it ended up."
"Still…" A small pour came on Kagome's face. "I hoped it would be fun…"
"Oi! Omaera!" Misaki suddenly shouted as she ran up to a group of boys messing around.
"Kagome!"
Heads turn to the side and saw the new teacher, Kouga Ookami running towards her.
"I heard that they were childhood friends…" The peers murmured among themselves.
"Kouga-kun…"
"If you're free, let's play!" He said in a flirtatious tone. "Dame." Kagome turn her bodied around, holding on even tighter to the broom in her hands. "I have chores to complete."
"Kagome-san!" once again her name was called, but this time it was Yukimura, who struggling to break free from Takumi. "Please help me!"
"What are you doing?" The girl questioned, walking over to them. "Just cleaning together." The blonde stoically responded.
"He's lying!" Yukimura squirmed. "I don't know why, but he's been dragging me around for no reason!"
*Sigh*
"Let go, Takumi." Kagome folded her arms staring Takumi down. They quietly watched as the feeble boy quickly ran away. It seemed like most of the students moved on, leaving only Kagome, Takumi and Kouga behind.
"I was wondering why I haven't seen you around, what are you doing?" Kagome spoke, lifting her head to meet his emerald eyes.
"What was I doing?" Takumi repeated, moving closer to Kagome as his arm wrapped around her waist. His other hand lifted up her chin even more, letting their faces lean in close.
"I was jealous of someone and sulking in the corner." A smirk came on his face, seeing the redness of her cheeks spread. "Is there a problem with that?"
"O-Of course there is!" Kagome stuttered back. Their bickering kept going, leaving cold blue eyes narrow in observation. A sudden flush of youki got released, sending chills down their spines.
"Kouga-kun!" Kagome snapped her head back at the teacher, her red hue gone, instead she held a sharp look. His serious look was gone in an instead, and instead he held a light smile. "My bad."
The man came closer and for the first time he took a good look at the boy Kanrei warned him about. 'So he's Takumi Usui… as kitsune welp.'
"Thank you for taking care of my Kagome." Kouga took out his hand, he could see the teen eying it suspiciously. "Iie… it was nothing." Takumi coldly replied back.
Takumi reached out his hand, but instead of shaking Kouga's, he threw a punch to his teacher's face, who caught it with ease. Kouga as a retaliation threw his fist towards Takumi's face, who blocked it as well.
Both held their glare, whilst ignoring Kagome's shouts of protests.
*Sigh*
Another sigh left Kagome's lips as she was in the kitchen, prepping the food for dinner.
"Kagome-chan?"
She looked up and saw her friends, Sakura, Shizuko and Misaki as well as the other girls walking.
"Were you already working? Sugoi!" Sakura came closer and took a peek. "I'm so tired from cleaning, meditating, and getting yelled at." The girl took a place next to Kagome and began to work on her task.
"We girls are lucky that we were assigned to make dinner." Shizuko reasoned as she as well took a station. Every girl was busy washing ingredients and cutting, others were busy washing the dishes like; Kagome and her friends.
Misaki was forbidden from helping, as everyone knew she was a terrible cook, instead Misaki was allowed to taste test for them from her seat in the corner.
"Yeah." Sakura nodded to Shizuko. "The boys have to go sit under the waterfall."
"You know, Kagome-san, you're really amazing." A classmate of theirs suddenly spoke up. "You and Misaki-san can get everything organized in no time."
A light blush came on Kagome's face at the compliment. "You think so? Arigatou." She smiled to the girl.
"And it didn't occur to me at all that we should wash the dishes beforehand. Sakura added. "We probably wouldn't have noticed how dirty they were until it was too late." Shizuko dreaded.
"Ah…. That's because…" Kagome's face grew anxious as her eyes darted around. 'It's something Manager always does at Maid Latte. I can never say that!'
"So hey," A knowing smirk came on Sakura's face as she leaned in closer. "How are things going with Ookami-sensei?"
"Eh?!" Kagome almost dropped the plate that was in her hands, staring with wide eyes at the sudden gathering of girls. "W-Why did you bring him up?!"
"Well, it's been bugging me all this time." Sakura smiled as if it couldn't be helped. "Sakura-san's greatest goal for these Mountain Classes is to talk about Kagome-san's relationships." Shizuko explained.
"You've got to talk about it when you're on trips like these." Sakura continued, even more fired up than before. "Ookami-sensei came in at the perfect time, too."
"So?"
"You guys…" Kagome sighed once again that day. "There's nothing between Kouga-kun and I, alright. We've known each other from a long time ago and that's all."
"That's right." Misaki came and joined in on the conversation. "Besides, it's immoral to have a student-teacher relationship."
Girls pondered, but knew she was right. It was immoral, although it would make an interesting love story.
"All right girls, let's get back to work!"
Evening had come and the students were gathered in the hall, listening to the monk's speech.
"Meditation and cleaning aren't the only kinds of training we do here. Eating, bathing and even using the bathroom are moments of training. Usually conversations aren't permitted, but today, I will be lenient. Enjoy."
"Itadakimasu!"
The crowd chanted before the dig in their simple food that was made out of rice, curry and some tea.
"There's nothing here." Sarashina said with full on disappointment. "We're only getting a bowl of curry?"
"I thought I saw meat for a second, but that's konnyaku." Kurosaki commented.
"Konnyaku curry?" Shirokawa said with pain heard in his voice.
"Why isn't there any meat in here?" A loud voice was heard complaining. All heads turned towards where the teachers were sitting and were surprise to see Kouga annoyingly munching on his last bite of rice.
"baka…" Kagome whispered to herself as she quietly took a bite of her food.
"Slowly enjoy and appreciate the food." The monk said in a calm voice. "As if I could enjoy this bland food! It's worse than the raw meat of the feudal era!"
"Baka!"
Within a blink of an eye the man disappeared, and only a few noticed the woman that dragged him away.
"Are you stupid?!" Kagome shouted in a hush voice, hoping that the people inside could not hear them. It was already dark outside, and Kagome had pulled them a bit further away into the shed.
"The hell did I do?" Kouga tried to defend himself, but it was useless in the eyes of Kagome's infamous temper. "Don't mention anything about the feudal era or anything Youkai related, got it?" Kagome sternly said.
Kouga didn't say anything, instead her clasped her hands together into his and pulled her closer. "Kagome… I wasn't aware that I mean so much to you."
"You wish." Kagome sighed as she took her hands back, the wolf was about to say something else but the sound of footsteps, made him kneel to the ground with her, his hand placed over her mouth.
"Nani?" They could hear the voice of the monk say. "Why is this door open? Oi, is someone in there? Somebody must have forgotten to close it. Gosh."
"He locked the door." Kagome said dumbfounded, after she released herself from Kouga's hold. Kagome walked up to the door and tried to open it by force, but it didn't work.
"Relax I can always kick it open." Kouga said as he planted his feet in the ground, ready to strike. "Dame!" Kagome quickly stood in his path before any harm was done. "We cannot damage the property! Seika would have to pay for it otherwise."
"Alright…" Kouga rubbed the back of his neck, watching Kagome worry about what to do. "Hey," He suddenly began.
"Isn't this one of those situations where a boy and a girl get locked in a room and it gets all exciting?"
"Eh?"
The miko turned her head but found herself trap between the door and Kouga's muscular body. A moment of silence passed before Kagome parted her lips to speak.
"We talked about this, Kouga-kun. What else do you exactly want me to do?"
"What?" Kouga scoffed. "Isn't it obvious? I want you-"
With the sound of a rattle, Kagome felt her body fall back before being caught by a pair of arms hugging her from behind.
"… to see you as a guy, right?"
"Takumi!" Kagome looked up, surprised to see him.
"I will look at you. As a man." His green eyes narrowed at the teacher. Suddenly the two began exchanging blows, hit after hit was blocked and returned
"Yamete!" Kagome once again crossed her arms, by instinct the two kneeled to the ground as Kagome began scolding them. "Quit fighting every time you see each other!"
"We're not fighting!" Kouga complained. He huffed his chested and crossed his arms. "This is a showdown between men!"
"I'm just protecting you from a perverted sensei." Takumi replied, his eyes wandering to the sky, not making eye-contact with Kagome.
"What was that?!" Kouga growled facing his opponent once more. "What was what?" Takumi replied with wit, pushing his own forehead against the wolf.
The two continued their back and forth, unaware of the growing anger in front of them.
"Would you both shut up!"
They froze. Eyes slowly looking up, staring at the face of death itself.
"Go reflect on what you've done!"
Once again, the shed was locked, but this time it locked up a wolf and a fox.
Silence dominated over them, except for a few bugs here and there biting the feast in front of them.
*Slap*
"At this rate, I'll probably get stung all over," Kouga growled a bit as he slapped another mosquito in his neck. "and by tomorrow morning, I'll be all puffy and look like someone else."
"For a teacher, you're quite childish." Takumi stated, earning another reaction from the youkai. "If you keep shouting like that, Fuku will yell at you again."
"Tch." Kouga sat back down, his eyes locked in front of him. "Oi, gaki." He began. "Do you love Kagome?"
Their eyes met.
"I know from that mutt Kanrei that there's something between you guys. So?" Kouga watched as Takumi's eyes went to the ground. "If there was, we probably wouldn't be doing this."
"Don't get your hopes up." Blue eyes stared at the closed door. "Kagome is a much more amazing woman than you can imagine. A brat like you doesn't suit her."
A scoff left Takumi's lips. "I don't need you to tell me that."
"Yaro…" Kouga growled lowly, holding his youkai side back. 'Once again another bastard mutt in my way…'
The second day of the Mountain classes ended without any major trouble. But the third night they had to travel to the camp for the fourth day. All the students had lined up with Misaki leading them in the rain.
"Why did there have to be a downpour…" Kagome whined softly from her place next to Misaki. Like all the other teens, she was wearing a raincoat provided by the temple for their journey.
"Yeah!" Sakura squirmed from behind them. "It's supposed to be the day we get out of the temple and camp out!"
Shizuko, who was walking next to Sakura, looked behind them. "The boys almost look like zombies at this point."
"But at this rate, we may not have to worry about what I heard from the upperclassmen." Misaki noted, her finger against her chin in thought. "Eh?" Kagome tilted her head in question, waiting for Misaki to elaborate.
"Something about girls facing the greatest danger." She turned to the other girls with a sweet smile. "Don't worry, I'll protect you."
"Misaki!"
It didn't take that much longer before they arrived at the campsite. They went inside, and many were excited for what to choose out of the many activities tomorrow.
"Looks like there'll be a BBQ here at night." Misaki stated after looking over the schedule.
"Oh! I haven't had meat in a while." Sakura instantly began drooling. "The temple's monk food made us feel like we weren't eating anything."
The girls began chatting as they removed the raincoats and tried to dry up their clothes and body with a towel.
"What is this…?" One guy murmured as the other followed his gaze. "I see a paradise there." Their eyes glued on the girls.
"It's not like I'm doing it for you or anything!"
Something seemed to have snapped within the guys as they suddenly began closing in, their instinct taking over.
"What do you guys want?" Misaki stepped forth. "Go back to your lines." More girls gathered behind the president. "Don't come closer to the girls!"
Misaki clicked her tongue, growing more wary of what could happen. "Perhaps I underestimated the what the upperclassmen said."
"Misaki-san, what's going on?" Kagome came to stand next to her as a way to show her support and perhaps help stop the boys.
"They went through 3 days of cleaning, meditating, lecturing and so on at the temple." Misaki explained. "Not enough food, waking up early, and total sleep deprivation."
"The frustration caused them to lose all rational thought on the fourth day when they leave the temple, and they start going after the girls!" As Misaki finished her sentence, the boys charged.
"Run for it!" The female ordered and all the girls ran as far as their legs could carry them.
"All girls! Hurry and evacuate to the cottage!" The teachers tried to lead them to safety. "They're going out of control faster than usual."
At last all the girls seemed to be safe inside the cottage, armed with brooms and other utilities they could find. The girls where whispering among themselves.
"I've never seen the boys like that before."
"They were so creepy."
"I also heard the girls' schedule is less rigorous compared to the boys' due this kind of situation." Shizuko said softly. They all stood around Misaki, who sat on a chair in thought.
"Every year on the fourth night, the teachers build a barricade between the boys and the girls." Misaki said. "Due to their effort, all the girls have been safe to this day."
"We've got trouble!" A girl slammed open the door. "The river nearby is flowing, and the teachers don't have the time to build a barricade!"
"Eh?!"
In unity the girls shivered, as the feeling of dread overwhelmed them. "I just felt a real chill down my spine."
"Misaki-chan?" Sakura's voice made the others turn to the woman, seeing as she put on her raincoat again. "Are you really going?"
"Yeah." She nodded. "If the teachers are facing an emergency, the student council should support them."
"I'm coming too." Eyes went to Kagome who joined Misaki's side with her own raincoat on. "You can't change my mind." She stated firmly, not waiting for Misaki's complains.
The raven-haired woman nodded before turning to the other girls. "If the boys come here, do whatever it takes to keep them out!"
"Hai!"
The two women ran through the heavy rain, matching each other's pace until they came upon a field. The boys in front of them.
"So, they've really come." Misaki glared at them. "How suicidal."
"Kagome?"
The girl perked up at the sound of her name. "Ookami-sensei." Misaki greeted, surprised to see their teacher casually hanging around the strange actin boys. "What are you doing here?"
"Well, I was told to keep an eye out on these wild brats." Kouga said with a sigh, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Kagome…"
Her name suddenly got passed around the large group.
"Kagome…"
Again…
"Kagome…"
And again…
"Kagome!"
The boys suddenly charged, aiming for the miko. "Don't touch her!" Misaki began putting her Akido knowledge to use, throwing some of the guys away.
Some somehow managed to get pass her and went after Kagome. Although Kagome was confident in her decision of coming along, but know she wasn't sure.
The boys came closer until a small whirlwind passed by in a blink of an eye and the boys were kicked away. "Don't you dare touch my woman!"
"K-Kouga-kun…" Kagome admired her view from behind him, appreciate him protecting her. "I'm not your woman."
"Enough messing around!" Misaki's voice called over to them. "Figure out what's going on already! They're out of their minds!"
Again, she punched some of her schoolmates. "If we let them near the girls now, something unforgivable will happen!"
Suddenly two boys managed to get past them running towards the cottage where the girls where staying. "We're only going there to hang out with them."
"What is this? Playing tag?" A voice laced with mischief spoke. "Let me join in."
The runaway boys where pushed to the ground by a green-eyed blond.
"Takumi!" Kagome smiled at the sight of him, relieved to see him helping out.
"I'll be 'it' then." All could see a wicked smirk on his face, sending chills down their spine in a terrifying message. "If you don't run, I'll catch you."
"Matte…" One boy hopelessly begged.
"Why is this happening?" Another one questioned.
"Heh." Eyes went to Misaki who released a chuckle. "Then I'll join in as well."
Kouga joined in with a smirk, punching his fist into his open palm. "Yosh, let's start this hunt."
.
.
.
"We'll save the tag for another time!"
"We'll play when they rules are safer!"
The boys quickly shuffled back to their own cottage, leaving the four on their own.
"Keh." Kouga snapped his head away and folded his arms. "Cowards. They're just running away."
"That's what we wanted to do, Ookami-sensei." Misaki said, letting out a sigh of relieve. "We just needed to scare them off."
"Do the 'its' win?" Takumi quietly asked Kagome as she stood next to him. She gave him a light smile. "Yeah, we won!"
They heard Kouga huff, Kagome figured he had heard their exchange and was clearly sulking. "They all just ran away, because that kitsune gaki showed up."
"Well, Takumi is the most respected by the other boys." Kagome explained.
Another huff.
"What's so special about him?"
"The boys and girls will attend the BBQ separately." Kagome explained to the girls. She and Kagome had returned from their 'battle' and tried to reassure the others.
"The river's calming down, so the teachers are finishing up with the barricade. The girl's safety is guaranteed, even during dinner." She finished.
"Welcome back, Misaki, Kagome!"
"We were so worried about you!"
"You took too long!"
The girls flooded them with hugs and tears, worried for their wellbeing.
After she managed to wiggle her way out of the group hug, Kagome moved outside for some fresh air.
"Ara…" She noticed the blond locks. "You're still here?"
"Is that all you have to say to me?" Green eyes turned to her, as he stood up. "Come here for a second?"
Confused by his sincerity, the Miko moved before she realized and stood next to him in the forest.
"What's up?" Kagome inquired curiously.
"Kagome." He suddenly began, pushing her against the bark of a tree, leaning his hand next to her head. "Is he anything special to you?"
Kagome's cheeks got dusted pink. "S-Special? Who?"
"Kouga Ookami."
He watched her eyes widen before they lowered to the ground. "He's… a childhood friend, I've known him longer than anyone here."
Takumi took a step closer. "Do you care about him so much that you find yourself looking at him out of the corner of your eyes? You seemed to be concerned about him."
"I-I don't know…" Kagome stuttered; her eyes were darting all over the place. "He's an idiot and always causing problems. He's a big problem."
Her blue eyes met his green ones. "But, you're a much bigger problem, hentai kitsune." She whispered.
He watched a smirk come to his face as he pushed his body more against her. "Eh, chotto… Takumi?"
A sudden tumbling of the belly rang through her ear, signaling the hunger the boy felt. "I'm at my limit. Thanks to him, I'm totally out of energy."
"Pftttt!"
"What are you laughing about." Takumi glared a bit at the giggling girl. "Nothing." She muttered, barely holding back her laughter. "It's BBQ time for the boys. If you're hungry, you should hurry and-"
"Impossible." Takumi firmly stated. "I can't move for a while."
Kagome let out a sigh as she let her arms fall around him in a gentle hug, her eyes went to the sky while the boy leaned his head on her shoulder.
"It stopped raining."
